  • "Only true Italians know if a restaurant is authentic Italian food. It's all about the manicotti. And Ralph's Manicotti was superb, as was everything else!!! Wish I had this restaurant near me. When I go to Philly again, Ralph's will be a definite visit."

  • "I was excited to go to this 100+ year old restaurant. Service was horrendous. Salads, apps & dinners were all brought out at different times to our table. One of my guests got his salad right before his entree was brought...the rest of us got our much earlier. The founders of this restaurant must be turning over in their graves. The food tasted less homemade and more pre-made from the delivery truck. Doubt there are clams in the clams casino. The escargot was tiny and petrified. The veal and chicken parmigiana had more breading than meat. My squid ink lobster stuffed ravioli with a scamp sauce had overcooked scallops vs shrimp. Perhaps I'm being too critical but I am a good cook and was expecting a much better meal than we all received."

  • "I went to Ralph's for the first time with my husband for his birthday this past weekend. He's been there before with friends from South Philly. The food was delicious. Lauren, our waitress was great. It was small but would definitely go back."

  • "we have been dining at Ralphs for years, quality of food and the quality of service has always been there."

  • "The reviews do not lie, Ralph's is delicious and did not let me down. The only downside was the spacing between tables but that was fine for me because I didn't pay to sit, I paid to EAT, and the food was excellent. The prices aren't too bad considering the portion sizes which, by the way, are VERY generous. So if you plan on having dessert, wrap half of your entrée, haha. Overall, any doubts you may have about Ralph's, drop em now. Otherwise you'll miss out on some good food."

  • "every time we eat at ralph's, the food is excellent, the service very friendly, and we have a great time. They have the best mannicotti, also love their "gravy" on the spaghetti. Chicken Sorrento is the best chicken dish i have ever eaten. And you must have a piece of "dark side of the moon" cake at the end-a delicious and fitting ending to a memorable meal at a wonderful restaurant."

  • "When I thought about a 100 years restaurant, it was amazing, it's seems like a heritage...and I was actually waiting for something I have ever seen!! In my country, the city where I live is a well known gastronomic place, for our patterns the tomato sauce was too much heavy. The plate's size was good, maybe to much for one person and the food would be a little more tastefully."

  • "food, service, atmosphere ralphs has it all-fabulous!!"

  • "Loved the mussels in white sauce. Was not a fan of the clams casino. They were mushy but burnt on top. The veal entrees were excellent. It is a very small space, so if you are ok with eating next to a stranger, you will be fine."

  • "no wonder why this restaurant's been around for a long time. Food was outstanding. Drinks were great. Canoli's were perfect for desert."

  • "It's just got that awesome Bella Vista/Italian Market vibe. The waiters/valet/front desk staff are all no-fuss, super nice people. Plus for red sauce Italian, the food is excellent. I recently had Shrimp with pasta and vodka sauce and the shrimp were large, plump and perfectly done! Plus you've got to try the Cannoli Cake - my all time favorite. Cash only, no pretenses. Takes me back to my childhood."

  • "Ralph's is located in South Philly and the oldest Italian restaurant, over 100 years old. It is very small and has a capacity of about 48. The tables are right next to each other, so if you don't mind being next to other diners. The food is really good. A Caesar salad comes with Italian (not Caesar) dressing. The veal parmagiana consisted of two huge pieces of veal and a small side of spaghetti. Be ready to take some home. Ralph's is now in the 21st century - they accept credit cards. I was told this started several months ago."

  • "Food and overall portions were just OK. Beware of the up charges for everything. We asked for a small dish of dry spaghetti for our 9 year old son because they drowned his sea bass in sauces despite our request for it to be grilled. The waiter charged us $7.50! Bus boys needs an attitude adjustment almost. We won't be returning anytime soon. To be fair, the gravy was delicious."

  • "Had been wanting to try this restaurant for the past year. Maybe that's why it was such a letdown - I had anticipated mouth-watering, homemade Italian specialties, but the antipasta was close to terrible, escargot were bland, veal entrees were huge, but nothing special. We made reservations a month in advance, but were still seated at the front door so every time someone came in we felt a gust of frigid air. In addition, those waiting for a table sat only inches behind us on a bench. So, we ate with patrons breathing down our backs and heard every word of their conversations. Parking is a challenge too - even with the valet!"

  • "Ralph's has a great name, but certainly not what it used to be. Chicken Parmigiana was a large serving, but greasy and not too flavorful. was stringy and little flavor. / Bread was not good either. With Sarcone's, the best bakery in Philly next door, they should at least get their bread."

  • "My friend had fond memories of Ralph's as a child. Her dad used to take her there many years ago. We both just celebrated our birthday's and decided to come down for lunch. We had a very nice lunch and also enjoyed being able to go up stairs and look at the building. We are older and appreciate that Ralph's has been a Family business for so many years. We will be visiting again soon and I will be coming for dinner with my husband. Lunch was very good and same for the service, thank you!!"

  • "Great food....Good prices.....tight dinning spaces, actually, too tight. A bit loud since your literally dining with your neighbor. Food, price and service makeup for it."

  • "The menu was a mix of classic Italian offerings and some interesting options that you often see at a standard Italian/American places. I was pleased with the maranara which to me is the true test of a good italian place. The only negatives to the place are the noise level if you prefer a quiet setting and a limited wine selection. But overall... I would return for the food."

  • "Seated at a table on the second floor of this historic Italian restaurant (oldest in the US) put my companion and I right next to a couple of large trash cans just outside the noisy kitchen with a bakers dozen of staff brushing by us time and time again at a frantic pace. The spinach gnocchi had the right consistency in the mouth but swam in a pool of oil. The broccoli rabe appetizer had all the right combination of flavors but landed on our tiny table with a tepid temperature. All in all many parties seemed to be enjoying themselves and having a festive time, but compared to many competitors in Baltimore/Washington area where I live Ralph's 2nd 100 years will only be guaranteed by a shake up and updating of the dishes and the facility."

  • "Being of Italian descent, I seldom eat Italian out, so when my cousins were visiting Philadelphia to visit a college with their son, I had to ask people to make recommendations, the one recommended was booked, glad it was because in my search I discovered Ralph's Italian Restaurant which appealed to me because they are a 5/6th generation family restaurant that has been open for over 100 years. Don't know about anyone else, but a restaurant with that history in today's world of chain, and come and go eateries, spoke to my Italian roots. . . There were 5 of us, chosen were Veal Capriosscio, Veal Sicilian, Veal Milanese and Clams in White sauce, the portions were generous and everyone enjoyed their food. I highly recommend and will go back!"

  • "Ralph's was fantastic. We were In a rush to get to the Flyers Game. The valet parking was a welcome surprise especially with Sourh Philly parking. The welcome was warm and genuine. Food and service was wonderful. They knew we had limited time, but we never felt rushed. Lots of history and friendly neighborhood diners. The four of us are going back soon."

  • "Enjoyed our meal although the prices were a little high for the quality of the food. Was disappointed to see that they served the food with fake parmesan cheese instead of fresh cheese. Also the bread did not taste very fresh. Would have expected more from the oldest Italian Restaurant. Otherwise the food was great and the staff was friendly and welcoming. Nice gem!"

  • "Ralph's delivered on authentic Italian cuisine without the frills/exorbitant prices of a center city restaurant. The veal was prepared very well and you will have to fight the temptation to order the white wine sauce by the gallon. Unfortunately, my date's seafood was below par - rubbery shrimp, deflated mussels. However, with the proper dining room decoration and overall refinement, Ralph's could establish itself as a premier dining destination in Philadelphia. I would be remiss if I didn't mention that I ordered a $50 bottle of wine and our server said we could get the same quality bottle for $30 if we chose the bottle he recommended. This is very rare and an admirable trait in a server."

  • "If you're looking for the real deal when it comes to Italian cuisine, look no further. Just be prepared to spend ~$40 - $50 a head for a very satisfying 3 course meal. If you've got some really deep pockets you can pair you meal with a bottle of fine wine up to the $400 range . Overall great experience."

  • "Everything was good and uncomplicated. Broccoli rabe was excellent, as so was the fettuccini alfredo. Everything we ordered was excellent. The parking outside with the valet was great, for 8.00 you don't have to worry about a parking space on the narrow streets of philly! I will be back again and again."

  • "We brought my parents and brother to Ralph's for their first dining experience there as a part of a Christmas gift. Everyone ordered a veal dish and each one of us thoroughly enjoyed our dinners. The veal is the way to go! Aside from our meals being fantastic, we were seated on the 2nd floor by the bar and were able to have a conversation at the table, despite the energetic noise from people waiting at the bar. Our service was impeccable; with only having to ask for a beverage one time throughout our dinner there. I highly recommend Ralph's to anyone looking for a fantastic Italian dining experience."
