Diner Reviews
  • "For reasons I do not understand, the five of us were isolated on the third floor. No other diners were seated there. The service was fine and it was quiet but it seemed strange indeed."

  • "If you love Italian food, this is the place! The menu is quite extensive. The salad's are very large, a good deal, but 3 people could easily share a salad. I ordered ravioli and meatballs from the homemade specialties, and both were great. Meatballs were not to dense, with plenty of flavor. Marinara sauce was great, I am a sucker for a good sauce. So many things to try on the menu, but I always go for the staples on the first try. I will be back to try some of the other specials..."

  • "It is a very nice place to have the lunch, enjoy the time in the city and also you can be part of this historic restaurant. I have noticed that even when the menú have the note about the gratuity in groups of 6 or more will be added to the bill, I got the gratuity in my bill even my party was of 4 people, I believe it was because I showed my Diplomatic Tax Exeption and the waiter wanted to have a good tip, it was rude and innecesary, the tip that I would leave surely would be the same"

  • "We love this place, it so represents the real side of Italian South Philly.. the food is perfect, the service is great and just sitting there feels like Rocky could show up. We never not come here when we travel from NYC to Philly,, A tue representation of real Philly."

  • "This is a great place to have dinner prior to a night out for the Theater. Valet Parking, convenient to Philly Theaters however, I would suggest making reservations and seating prior to 6PM as it can get very busy. Great place and good food, large portions, OUTSTANDING VEAL dishes."

  • "We took a crowd of out-of-owners for lunch, whom had never experienced the Italian Market. Everyone thought our food and service at Ralph's was wonderful. Eggplant Parm, Veal Parm, Veal Marsala and Chicken Parm were some of the favorites. Yummy stuff!"

  • "As a former east coaster living in the northwest my main objective when back east is to eat the best Italian food the city I visit has to offer. Ralph's is that restaurant in Philadelphia. It is old school Italian that is cooked to perfection. In a south Philly neighborhood this 3 story house/restaurant reminds me of my hometown Italian neighborhood. The staff is friendly & service fast but not too fast. The manicotti & meatballs are to die for. I have eaten here 3 times in the past year & recommend it to anyone looking for true Italian food."

  • "Ralph's has become our favorite restaurant in Philly. The food and service are both consistently excellent. We've started trying other things on the menu besides the veal parm and have been rewarded each time. I highly recommend this restaurant. It's the only Italian restaurant in Philly we go to when we are in town."

  • "Went with a group of friends, seated on third floor. The room was half-full and quiet - we could actually hear each other talk (a novel idea in the age of over crowded restaurants). The service was terrific and the food choices were standard Italian fare but well executed. The veal parmigiagna (house specialty) was enormous (enough for two) and really delicious. The tiramisu was the best I have ever had. All in all, good food at good prices with great service."

  • "Huge portions nicely done. Veal parm was the size of a serving plate. Menu has almost too many choices and specials make it even harder - a good problem to have. Very noisy on 2nd floor, but there were 6 of us and we added to the din. I'm sure there are other better Italian restaurants around, but this one has an interesting history."

  • "Great dinner every time. Can't go wrong with any veal dish. Convenient valet parking makes it an easy stop before heading to the stadium."

  • "Only true Italians know if a restaurant is authentic Italian food. It's all about the manicotti. And Ralph's Manicotti was superb, as was everything else!!! Wish I had this restaurant near me. When I go to Philly again, Ralph's will be a definite visit."

  • "I was excited to go to this 100+ year old restaurant. Service was horrendous. Salads, apps & dinners were all brought out at different times to our table. One of my guests got his salad right before his entree was brought...the rest of us got our much earlier. The founders of this restaurant must be turning over in their graves. The food tasted less homemade and more pre-made from the delivery truck. Doubt there are clams in the clams casino. The escargot was tiny and petrified. The veal and chicken parmigiana had more breading than meat. My squid ink lobster stuffed ravioli with a scamp sauce had overcooked scallops vs shrimp. Perhaps I'm being too critical but I am a good cook and was expecting a much better meal than we all received."

  • "I went to Ralph's for the first time with my husband for his birthday this past weekend. He's been there before with friends from South Philly. The food was delicious. Lauren, our waitress was great. It was small but would definitely go back."

  • "I would recommend this place to anyone and everyone!! But Make reservations, because they are extremely busy!! From the moment we walked in we were just amazed with the friendly staff to the beautiful tiles walls and all th family pictures!! we are going back again!!"

  • "The reviews do not lie, Ralph's is delicious and did not let me down. The only downside was the spacing between tables but that was fine for me because I didn't pay to sit, I paid to EAT, and the food was excellent. The prices aren't too bad considering the portion sizes which, by the way, are VERY generous. So if you plan on having dessert, wrap half of your entrée, haha. Overall, any doubts you may have about Ralph's, drop em now. Otherwise you'll miss out on some good food."

  • "every time we eat at ralph's, the food is excellent, the service very friendly, and we have a great time. They have the best mannicotti, also love their "gravy" on the spaghetti. Chicken Sorrento is the best chicken dish i have ever eaten. And you must have a piece of "dark side of the moon" cake at the end-a delicious and fitting ending to a memorable meal at a wonderful restaurant."

  • "When I thought about a 100 years restaurant, it was amazing, it's seems like a heritage...and I was actually waiting for something I have ever seen!! In my country, the city where I live is a well known gastronomic place, for our patterns the tomato sauce was too much heavy. The plate's size was good, maybe to much for one person and the food would be a little more tastefully."

  • "Loved the mussels in white sauce. Was not a fan of the clams casino. They were mushy but burnt on top. The veal entrees were excellent. It is a very small space, so if you are ok with eating next to a stranger, you will be fine."

  • "no wonder why this restaurant's been around for a long time. Food was outstanding. Drinks were great. Canoli's were perfect for desert."

  • "It's just got that awesome Bella Vista/Italian Market vibe. The waiters/valet/front desk staff are all no-fuss, super nice people. Plus for red sauce Italian, the food is excellent. I recently had Shrimp with pasta and vodka sauce and the shrimp were large, plump and perfectly done! Plus you've got to try the Cannoli Cake - my all time favorite. Cash only, no pretenses. Takes me back to my childhood."

  • "Ralph's is located in South Philly and the oldest Italian restaurant, over 100 years old. It is very small and has a capacity of about 48. The tables are right next to each other, so if you don't mind being next to other diners. The food is really good. A Caesar salad comes with Italian (not Caesar) dressing. The veal parmagiana consisted of two huge pieces of veal and a small side of spaghetti. Be ready to take some home. Ralph's is now in the 21st century - they accept credit cards. I was told this started several months ago."

  • "Food and overall portions were just OK. Beware of the up charges for everything. We asked for a small dish of dry spaghetti for our 9 year old son because they drowned his sea bass in sauces despite our request for it to be grilled. The waiter charged us $7.50! Bus boys needs an attitude adjustment almost. We won't be returning anytime soon. To be fair, the gravy was delicious."

  • "Had been wanting to try this restaurant for the past year. Maybe that's why it was such a letdown - I had anticipated mouth-watering, homemade Italian specialties, but the antipasta was close to terrible, escargot were bland, veal entrees were huge, but nothing special. We made reservations a month in advance, but were still seated at the front door so every time someone came in we felt a gust of frigid air. In addition, those waiting for a table sat only inches behind us on a bench. So, we ate with patrons breathing down our backs and heard every word of their conversations. Parking is a challenge too - even with the valet!"

  • "Ralph's has a great name, but certainly not what it used to be. Chicken Parmigiana was a large serving, but greasy and not too flavorful. was stringy and little flavor. / Bread was not good either. With Sarcone's, the best bakery in Philly next door, they should at least get their bread."

  • "My friend had fond memories of Ralph's as a child. Her dad used to take her there many years ago. We both just celebrated our birthday's and decided to come down for lunch. We had a very nice lunch and also enjoyed being able to go up stairs and look at the building. We are older and appreciate that Ralph's has been a Family business for so many years. We will be visiting again soon and I will be coming for dinner with my husband. Lunch was very good and same for the service, thank you!!"
