Diner Reviews
  • "I was blessed to have my mother, fiancee, and her mother with me for a really nice Easter dinner. Thanks to our waiter, Vernon, for accommodating our seniors. "

  • "Food and waiter were great. Hostess was rude and obnoxious. Manager was very apologetic and did her best to help us out. "

  • "Service was too slow, but other than that, the food (especially the crab bites) was great. Our server was so sweet, but she assumed we wanted to wait between courses and didn't put our entree order in until quite a bit of time went by. The woman who met us at the door was beyond wonderful, getting the ramp so my husband and I could get in with our scooters. Our bartender (drinks before dinner) was knowledgeable and great."

  • "when i am in new orleans i always try to set aside a meal at ralph and kacoo's. years go by but every time my meal, service, dining experience is OUTSTANDING. after 4 days of FQ jazz fest, our waiter had to be running on empty and we walked in an hour before closing but he was entertaining and helpful with entree choices! thanks R&K, you will forever continue to get our heartfelt business!!"

  • "We were in New Orleans for my bachelorette party. I made reservations at 8:30 for our larger party- after waiting for about 10 minutes one of the managers came up to us and said "there are alot of reservations tonight, it will be 15 minutes." I've never had this happen at a restaurant. We went to the bar to get drinks. The bartender was SO slow, it was unbearable. He was pacing around, leaving the bar area, taking 10 minutes to make 1 drink. So unprofessional and a little weird. We ended up being seated at 9:15! What was the point in making the reservation in the first place?? One of the other manager brought us free shots which was a nice gesture but it was ruined by the very odd, rude and condescending waiter. BAD EXPERIENCE!"

  • "While I would describe the food as good but not spectacular, the service was outstanding. This was one of the most reasonably priced restaurants that we visited in New Orleans. I would recommend this place for groups and families."

  • "So, we went here on the recommendation of TripAdvisor. The food was pretty good, though I got a seafood sampler where everything was fried, although that was not reflected in the menu and that was annoying. Drinks were fine. We sat in the front bar area instead of the dining room, which isn't exactly what we wanted, but again, that's fine. However, the service... the service was NOT fine. Our waitress was AWFUL. She couldn't answer a single question we had about ANYTHING. From drinks to the food, she didn't know. She never checked on our water or alcohol to see if we wanted refills, she never checked if the food was ok. Meanwhile a table next to us got FAWNED over. She was the absolute worst & my wife let them know before we left."

  • "This one was recommended. They sat us right away per our reservation. We ordered the fresh vegetables as our sides. Someone asked about the side and she said they were frozen she said - "Fresh out of a bag" Her honesty was appreciated. The food took a very long time to get so we entertained ourselves by catching the fruit flies that were all over our wine glasses - yes I know gross. The food range was good to okay- . We ordered dessert. All our dirty plates from bread to salad to appetizer were still on the table when they set dessert down. The server said she would clear then walked away leaving them. I got up and had to ask a buser at another table He did but still left about a third of the plates. Just not the best for New Orleans"

  • "Too much fried. Everything was fried and it just was overwhelming."

  • "Our group had a very good time. The food wasn't quite as good as we expected but not disappointing. It is also in a good location handy to other things going on in the French Quarter."

  • "Entree was great, however no bread was served & meal did not come with salad. Ordered sensation salad which was really tasteless. Lettuce was soggy & far from being a sensation salad similar to one at old Bob & Jakes in B.R. Recipe is in River Road Cookbook. Steamed vegetables were as bland as salad. Tasted like those frozen ones found in groceries & were far from being fresh."

  • "Apparently we had two new servers training each other. They were puppy-dog attentive, but then didn't follow up to actually get the knife or whatever we asked for. The music was OK and we had a decent meal. Just not the finest NOLA has to offer"

  • "I only get to New Orleans once or twice a year, but I always bee-line to Ralph & Kacoo's, even if it has to be my 2nd or 3rd night in town. I will not miss it. They serve excellent local creations, but I always know what I'll order before I get there. The crawfish festival is far-and-away my favorite meal! The place is large and so reservations are not usually necessary, but it can't hurt to plan ahead. Cheerily decorated, there just might be live entertainment while you dine. We enjoyed a pair of piano players who didn't get the attention they deserved, although we clapped heartily from the back of the dining room. You can go casual or dress up, as almost anything goes here. Not fancy, but a genuine NOLA experience. Highly recommended!"

  • "Ralph & Kacoo's was a friendly place to visit. The wait staff, especially Michael was so very nice & funny. He was on top of his game with the service & anticipated the tables needs. The food was so-so. I have had much better seafood at other New Orleans establishments. We ordered Delta Double, Seafood Platter & Ruby. Items were missing on the platter & sauce on the Ruby was so over-spiced it was inedible. We all ordered the baked potato, and when it arrived it was cold. We were seated next to a table of 28 younger people. We arrived after them, but were served first. The notable thing was that by the time that table was served they were significantly inebriated and were very loud. Very loud!!!"

  • "I made my reservations with open table, table for six at seven. When we arrive the hostess looks shocked...no table for us. After about 15-20 minutes we are seated in the bar area. We are seated with no menus, no silver...I have to get up and look for the manager to get things started! The server was a nice young man but was fairly slow...not sure if it was his fault or management for giving him two many tables. Our main course can with the salads and to make matters worse the food for New Orleans was disappointing. I have eaten at the Ralph in Kacoo's in Baton Rogue a year or two ago and we had a great meal at that location."

  • "Had a large group. Open Table let me book for 18, but called restaurant and they said should not be able to book that big. Ended up only being 10 of us. Great blackened catfish. Service was good until late in the meal when waiter disappeared for a good 20-30 minutes. Didn't even ask us about dessert. But very friendly, split the check easily and took great care of us for the bulk of our visit. The piano players were very talented, but at 11 PM on a Saturday would have preferred some more upbeat music selections."

  • "Service was bad at every juncture. Waitress was incompetent or untrained or both. Brought to Manager's attention. He SEEMED concerned but his actions certainly did not support it. Not sure why anyone would go there again!!"

  • "had a group of 11. waiter seemed over whelmed. food was just so so .staff was freindly but inept couldn't wait to leave' waiter got all checks wrong and got mine wrong twice."

  • "I made this reservation for a friend of mine's bachelorette party evening. We had a big group, but we didn't have to wait for our table to be ready and when we were sat they put us in this great circle table that fit us all. Other restaurants we had been to on this trip would split us up. The server, Jose, took great care of us. He even brought out a free appetizer that he said was so good we just had to try (and it was! Try the stuffed mushrooms!). The food was AMAZING! Every single thing I ate was delicious. At the end our server went through the trouble of bringing all 11 of us separate checks which I know is unheard of! Overall I had a fabulous experience."

  • "We went for an early dinner, around 5:30, at Ralph and Kacoo's. There was hardly anyone there. The wait staff was amazing and very attentive. She made suggestions so we would be able to try something new. They had an awesome menu selection, enough variety for everyone. There were 4 of us and we were all satisfied and thought the food was amazing. We would most certainly go back again next time we visit!"

  • "This place is nothing special and they definitely don't care about customer service. Food was just average. 6 of us ordered Hurricanes and they tasted like watered down juice. When we complained to the waitress she said something like oh I'll ask the bartender. She didn't acknowledge the issue after that and proceeded to charge us $13 per drink. Where is the customer service here?"
    Dined on 1/18/2014
  • "We left before ordering, as the menu had no appeal. Big open dining room reminded me of a college cafeteria. Everything appeared to be covered in a cream sauce (ugh). So many great places to eat in NOLA, why would you waste your palette and money here!"

  • "My husband and son and I stayed sleep in Nola for monster jam and decided to try this restaurant. Gumbo was different from the way we are used to but that is just a matter of opinion. Everything else was good and we do see ourselves going back. Justin our waiter was sweet and kind. Very attentive. Great job"

  • "We brought 10 people to Ralph & Kacoo's for a company dinner and had a marvelous time. The waiter was perhaps the friendliest ever and paid such great attention to us and everything was excellent! I highly recommend it!"

  • "New Orleans is known for Cajun but also redfish....get both at Ralph and Kacoos. Friendly staff who make excellent recommendations. They know the offerings and can match to your taste. Bar is small but great drinks and sits right by huge windows overlooking the street. Try to go on the nights of dueling pianos.....such fun! We love all the dishes but anything with redfish is a favorite. You can easily park in the lot on Decatur on the river and walk...reasonable lot fees too. It's also an easy walk from the Canal Street area. If you want a quiet meal, go by seven. If you want it to be lively, go around nine."

  • "Went a little early to dinner. The place was empty so there was no atmosphere. The food was OK but dry and for New Orleans not worth the price. There is So much good food here at many other restaurants."

  • "Ralph & Kacoo's is our favorite restaurant in New Orleans. I have never had bad service or bad food at this restaurant. During our dining experience, we thoroughly enjoyed listening to the piano player perform, too! Try the gumbo - it's the best in NOLA!"

  • "Food was great. I chose this restaurant because I had eaten at a different location. Apparently some of the staff did not show up on New Year's Day. We had to wait awhile because the hostess was not seating parties (waiting for the GM to arrive???) Finally starting seating people after a 30 minute delay. Food was great, GM was welcoming."
