Rainbow LodgeSpecial nightA dinner date that couldn't have been much better. Food, service, and table location with view were all excellent. So special that we enjoyed it for almost three hours.6/15/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat Business Lunch EnvironmentQuiet and elegant. Great food. Service was impeccable6/13/2013 12:00:00 AMBeautiful BrunchWe thoroughly enjoyed Sunday brunch at Rainbow Lodge. Outstanding food and service.6/9/2013 12:00:00 AMA very nice dinner. To beA very nice dinner. To be expected and they delivered.
Came for their wild game menu; Bison and Elk.
Both were excellent.
Service exceptional.6/8/2013 12:00:00 AMLate dinnerWe had a pleasant late dinner except for being seated right next to an initially arguing couple when there were plenty of open tables. The food was very good and service was excellent. I left feeling wonderful. Overall, it was a treat!6/8/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat and cozy with excellentGreat and cozy with excellent service! We went with another couple and really enjoyed the atmosphere and FOOD was good!6/8/2013 12:00:00 AMA great place to celebrateI've gone to The Rainbow Lodge for many years, although not often. We save it for special occasions. I try something different all the time. Last night I had the lobster therador, which was excellent. My brother loved the grilled buffalo. The portions are good. The only negative, a small one, the waitress was not friendly and never smiled until picking up the paid tab.6/1/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat Food, Mediocre ServiceThe food was absolutely delicious. We went as a group of 8 to celebrate. We were left waiting unacceptable times to the point where one of us interrupted our waiter who was hanging out at the bar. And the place was empty. No excuse for slow service.5/30/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat food but I miss the old localThe food, service and atmosphere were fantastic but we really miss the old location. The new property is ugly in comparison. I spent dinner looking at a storm drain. I really wish they weren't forced to move but the food can't be beat.5/26/2013 12:00:00 AMVery good food, great serviceThis was my third visit here and have yet to be disappointed. I love the brunch, especially out on the deck in the back. There's never been a wait to be seated and the food (for brunch) is served very quickly and the staff is amazing. My new standard brunch spot.5/26/2013 12:00:00 AMExceeded Our ExpecationsBased upon a colleague's recommendation, we made a brunch reservation at the Rainbow Lodge last Sunday. Every aspect of the restaurant from the friendliness of the staff to the delicious food exceeded our expectations. Granted the immediate neighborhood is somewhat questionable, once you walk into the Lodge you feel like you're in the woods. I would advise calling ahead to ensure your table is not situated along the front hallway with a view of the parking lot.5/26/2013 12:00:00 AMOut of this WorldI highly recommend the Rainbow Lodge, the duck was amazing and the bread pudding will leave you speechless. I will be going back for the Sunday Brunch.5/25/2013 12:00:00 AMLovely...My husband and I had a 12-hour window to get a sitter, go to our son's band concert, and drive into Houston from Katy to meet a friend we haven't seen in 17 hours. RL got it that we needed some private space (to catch up and because we are 3 naturally loud people!) and gave us the run of the place. We closed it down at 11:30 (they didn't rush us out at all) and hugs from the staff on our way out the door. I LOVE this place!5/22/2013 12:00:00 AMTry the bison!Went for hubby's birthday. Everything was delicious... The bison was perfectly cooked! Elk was nicely seasoned and the sides were perfect! We had the duck appetizer...
Deep-fried, crispy, juicy... Yum! Cameron was our server... He didn't miss a thing! We will definitely go back. Stay away if you are looking for health food or you are afraid of bacon!!!! Ha!5/18/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat RestaurantAmazing food and display of food. Love the atmosphere. Our waiter seemed very busy and could have been more friendly. A little disappointed with the customer service, but other than that I would highly recommend it.5/18/2013 12:00:00 AMDelightful LunchGood food and leisurely conversation. Nice service and ambience make it complete. Rainbow Lodge did all that for us. We shared the specialty burger and a caesar. The other couple shared lobster salad and crab cakes. The orders were presented already halved in the kitchen - a nice touch. The lobster and the burger got raves; everything was plated beautifully. Outside the window we were entertained by two blue jays and a male cardinal. How nice to enjoy both the inside and outside of the restaurant. And have time to linger in a room where conversation is definitely possible, with attentive and not intrusive service. In a city where too many restaurants are loud by design and overly energetic in feel, this place is special.5/17/2013 12:00:00 AMI have been here many timesI have been here many times in the past. I took my office staff for a celebration. We were a party of nine and we had the 7 course tasting menu. Everyone was very pleased with the entire meal, but everyone had a favorite. The waiter had a great sense of humor and made the entire experience that much better. Without a doubt, I will be back.5/14/2013 12:00:00 AMGood food outside seatingGood food outside seating was very pleasant. Service started slow but recovered after a bit and ended good.5/12/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat RestaurantI love taking my mom here for mother's day. Great patio in nice weather!5/12/2013 12:00:00 AMOur experienceThe resturant has something for everyone, there is no kid menu, however, the staff allows you several options too choose from that accommodates children. One in our party choice was the Chef selection, very good five course meal of the chefs with excellent presentation, taste & quality. Meats such as, buffalo, elk, venison and other game were quite tasteful. Dinner may be a little pricey, but a lunch menu is available.5/12/2013 12:00:00 AMMother's Day dinnerMy husband & I took "Mum" to a 6PM dinner on Mother's Day (she was craving lobster). We were initially seated near a large family group with a continuously crying baby & multiple children but were moved to a smaller & quieter room (still with a good view) when we requested to be moved. We had this room to ourselves for most of the meal (which was absolutely fabulous - highly recomend the Chef's choice!) but a couple with a small well-behaved child were seated in the same area later.
We've also come the Rainbow Lodge for Sunday Brunch & for non-special occasion dinners in the past - its always a great experience with great food & service.5/12/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellentEverything that was ordered within our party was excellent. I had the mix grill which was top shelf. I will definitely return5/10/2013 12:00:00 AMProm SpecialA Party of 8 of us went for Prom Night. It was a great experience. We were treated with respect and made to feel special. The food was very good and the service was excellent.5/10/2013 12:00:00 AMNot a boring business lunchThis is a beautiful restaurant with an elegant hunting lodge decor. The menu fits the theme with wild game specialties. This time I had the lunch crab cakes which were the perfect portion served with a bright fresh mixed green salad. It is so unique to the Houston restaurant roster, it makes a clean break from a boring business lunch at the usual noisy, harried local chains. We will go back soon for dinner.5/8/2013 12:00:00 AMFabulous BrunchWhat a lovely surprise!
The food was delicious, interesting and with new flavors.
And even though they do not have a kids menu they were able to cater to their very particular tastes.5/5/2013 12:00:00 AMTop five restaurant in HoustonIn short it was fantastic. We got the 7 course tasting menu. The chef came out and explained each course to us. Unlike most gourmet restaurants even the tasting Menu came with generous portions. Our waiter was fantastic. He managed to be interested and attentive without becoming overbearing. I definitely recommend going early to sit at the carved wood bar. The bartender is excellent and they make all their mixes in house. Absolutely everything is fresh.5/4/2013 12:00:00 AMpot of goldRainbow Lodge is truly the Pot of Gold at the end of the rainbow. Atmosphere, Food, Service and Value!5/4/2013 12:00:00 AMMore Positives Than NegativesI wanted a change of pace from the lighter-fare places I typically go, and it did not disappoint. To enjoy a broader selection of the offerings, we shared several salads and appetizers. We did the same with the mixed wild game entree. All were excellent. The wine list had a couple of high-quality/value selections in each varietal. Only complaint is the lighting in the restaurant was too bright, hurting the "lodge" feeling. I also noted that one of the waiters made a face of exasperation when he was not able to put the food down as soon as he arrived at our table (we were in the middle of a conversation and did not make room for the plates as he wanted/needed). Not a big deal, but I must say, I have never seen that from a waiter before.5/4/2013 12:00:00 AMCatch up with a friendOver all very nice as I had remembered it. Left alone to talk as requested time to talk. Food was very good, fish special was good had the fresh taste, the phesant had a good taste but a little dry being pre-cooked and refigrated needed more sauce or steam heated but managed to keep its flavour. Wine was good, has a nice selection and not over priced. Desert was good, but supprised that it didn't include a varity of seasonal fresh fruit.
Highly recommended for a couple / small group of friends that want a relaxed time, conversation, good food, warm friendly atmosphere.5/4/2013 12:00:00 AMRainbow Lodge "a wee pot O' gold"My wife and I are traveling Nurses working in various cities and states since 2005 and this restaurant was every thing we look for when dining out. It has a rustic "hunting Lodge" atmosphere with great courteous service. The ample wine list includes some nice varietals and after dinner treats. The food was rich and filling. The wild game sampler was the reason we went to the Rainbow Lodge and we were not disappointed in the least. We were very happy to find this little gem and I am sure we will be making our way back again and again.
I understand they have a great lunch service as well.... I wonder what we are doing for lunch today....5/3/2013 12:00:00 AMEverything about the eveningEverything about the evening was wonderful - food, ambience, service.4/30/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellent Food & ServiceI highly recommend this restaurant the whole experience was excellent!!! From the appetizers to the dessert!!!4/30/2013 12:00:00 AMWished we had tried this recommendeWished we had tried this recommended by a friend restaurant sooner! What a gem. Our Sunday Brunch chef, Mario Valdez, did an outstanding job with his mixed meat appetizer platter and the Chile Relleno special, stuffed with shrimp, crab and other goodies was another to die for hit. It was a pleasure meeting Chef Valdez and would recommend this fine establishment to anyone that asks. We will definitely be back for more.4/21/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat for meat lovers. TheGreat for meat lovers. The venison was really good.4/20/2013 12:00:00 AMRainbow Lodge is a great spotRainbow Lodge is a great spot for food and drink. The food is very flavorful and protions are spot on. While not much to look at from the outside the inside and back patio areas are amazing with quiet dining, good drinks from the bar, live music on Friday nights and a spectacular back patio with views of the manicured lawn.4/19/2013 12:00:00 AMThree of us visited RL forThree of us visited RL for dinner. The first course was served and as usual was delicious. The wine my son chose was not available but the server was able to make a suggestion that proved perfect. Two of our entrees were wonderful, however the pheasant entree was dry and stringy. The sauce was delicious but the pheasant was not up to the standards that we have come to expect from Rainbow Lodge.4/16/2013 12:00:00 AMI find the restaurant is greatI find the restaurant is great for a business lunch, as you can have a confidential conversation and a good meal at the same time. Too many restaurants are too loud these days to have such conversations.4/16/2013 12:00:00 AMJust What We Wanted! With little kids, we don't get as many date nights as we used to, so when we find a baby sitter, we don't want to mess around with new, trendy places. We head straight for guaranteed awesomeness, and Rainbow Lodge is a consistently great place.
We picked a nice wine off their "fun list" and started with their scallops and taste of game. Loved them. We followed up with salads. Both were deliciously fresh and perfectly sized. (I don't understand giant buckets of salad!) We both got the snapper. It was just right. While we were too full for dessert, we order the chocolate cream torte and lemon pie in jar anyway. Mmm.4/12/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat choice! This is a Houston treasure. Unique setting in the midst of an otherwise lackluster area. Quality food and preparation.4/7/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellence DefinedWe drive almost an hour to go to Rainbow Lodge when Bob Chadwick and Harry Sheppard are performing in the lounge. An added treat is excellent service provided by Rose, great food, and a beautiful view outside the large windows. This is a nice spot. I have never dined in the dining room since I only make the drive when these great musicians are there, but the menu is great.4/5/2013 12:00:00 AMRainbow Lodge is a hiddenRainbow Lodge is a hidden gem. Food and service always excellent. Bison medallions are really good :)4/3/2013 12:00:00 AMThe food was outstanding. The food was outstanding. We went on Easter Sunday so the restaurant was incredibly busy. The time between courses was very long. The food and atmosphere made up for the slow service. The wait staff was excellent considering how many customers they were servicing. We will go back soon, however we might not be so willing to go on a holiday for a while.3/31/2013 12:00:00 AMRainbow Lodge NEVER disappoints.Rainbow Lodge NEVER disappoints. Service is always polite, informative andseemingly effortless. The problem with the food is there are too many delicious tempting choices. Our server was very helpful in guiding us to a perfect meal. Portions were more generous. The restaurant was packed and yet our water glasses were quickly refreshed and our meal was presented at a pace that was neither rushed nor lethargic. We have been patrons of Rainbow Lodge since we moved to Houston over 30 years ago. It remains a favorite dining destination be it a casual lunch or a festive holiday dinner.3/31/2013 12:00:00 AMFood was fabulous. Our serverFood was fabulous. Our server was wonderful. Dined at Easter Brunch, so it was crowded and, although our reservation was for 1:00pm, we weren't seated until 1:30. Other than that, this is a great restaurant with ambience and wonderful food.3/31/2013 12:00:00 AMThe view is spectacular -The view is spectacular - they have a wonderful and romantic backyard. And the lodge feel of the restaurant is really wonderful. Unique menu which has some of the best crab cakes I've ever had.
Really enjoyed it!3/30/2013 12:00:00 AMThis was my first visit. TookThis was my first visit. Took my wife for our anniversary dinner. Exceptional food and top notch service.3/30/2013 12:00:00 AMLeaning table! Our table was in very poor condition. The glasses of wine and water were actually leaning ready to spill on one side of our round table! Our waiter was. Very accommodating and allowed us to move to another. They need to get rid of this table. I can't imagine people actually sitting there and that Rainbow Lodge continues to keep that table!3/24/2013 12:00:00 AMMy husband and I went forMy husband and I went for a special night out and had a wonderful time. He chose the special of a bison ribeye, rare and I chose the whole lobster. His steak was phenomenal my lobster was ok. A little tough but it may be due to not season. It still was flavored nicely and I did enjoy it. I would choose something else next time for sure. We had a n app of scallops which I Would get a second order of next time, one order was just not enough. I could have. Made a meal of the scallops. And the table side bread was warm and fresh. A wonderful night out.3/23/2013 12:00:00 AMRomantic!Absolutely wonderful for a date night with the hubby! They catered to my vegetarian needs! Vegetable risotto and jalapeno bread pudding is amazing! LOVED the hibiscus margarita!!!3/23/2013 12:00:00 AMSit by the window! The prices are high, but the food and service match that level of quality.3/23/2013 12:00:00 AM
