  • "Even though we were originally seated in a room by ourselves, our waiter took over 15 minutes to take our drink order. Upon bringing the drinks, he filled the specialty margarita up to the brim of the glass, where it could not be moved without spilling. Though he became more prompt throughout the night, he appeared to be new and was quite awkward, and read directly from a piece of paper for the specials. My fiance ordered the halibut special which did not originally come as described, and was quite bland. The duck I ordered was fair. The fried oysters and the crab cakes were fantastic. Although I have certainly had worse meals, this experience was not what you expect for such a price."

  • "My wife and I have always enjoyed Rainbow Lodge but I have a problem with the requirement to have my car parked by valets when the empty parking spot is only 25 feet away. I can understand valet parking as optional if it's truly more convenient (thinking downtown parking garages) but for a restaurant with adjacent parking - no - it just seems pretentious and unnecessary."

  • "The occasion was my fiancee's birthday. I wanted to find a nice, romantic restaurant to celebrate. I am not from Houston so I depend on Google to help me find restaurants. I found Rainbow Lodge and used OpenTable to make my reservation. I included a note that told them it was my fiancee's birthday and ask for a suitable table. They called the morning of to confirm my reservation. On arriving, we were led to a perfect table. (Although the entire place is beautiful.) We were by a window with a beautiful view. The waiter immediately wished her Happy Birthday. The selection of wild game was amazing, as was the taste when it arrived. The reviews here made me worry a bit, but I am pleased to say that I found none of those issues. Perfect night!"

  • "Had a lovely brunch last weekend. We were seated by the window, so we had a nice view of the back garden area. Our server was helpful, friendly and prompt. We had a question about the menu and he quickly found out the answer and the kitchen was able to accommodate our request. The food came out quickly and was hot and delicious. My friend and I had the short ribs benedict on Texas toast and my boyfriend had the breakfast mixed grill. The portion sizes were good and along with the biscuits and muffins they bring to the table, we had more than enough to eat. Loved it and we'll definitely be back!"

  • "I've been to Rainbow lodge a few times and tried out a couple of different menu items, all during dinner. My bf and I decided it might be a great place to take his dad, who was scoping out places to bring his investors/clients in the future. Unfortunately, our experience was a hit in some areas and a miss in others. Hits: Quail, Pheasant and Venison medallions were all cooked to perfection and paired nicely with the sides Misses: Lamb - WAY over cooked and overall just poor quality Pork - really tough and fatty, not at all tender and did not pair well with the sides it was served with the Service - awful, our waiter acted like he didn't want to be there Not to mention he was mostly absent in a not busy time. We will probably not be back"

The fish special which was red fish was priced at $38 (which we did not learn until receiving the bill). The other fish dishes on the menu were in the $26 range. Enjoyed the chef bringing dishes to table and taking pride in the creation and informing patrons of the ingredients. This was one of the best food experiences we have had in Houston and I highly recommend it! The portions were also larger than other tasting menu's we have tried which was a huge bonus for my hungry boyfriend!"

The manager that was working that night was fantastic! Excellent customer service. He was the one who actually waited on us this night.....the server we had clearly did not have his game face on for his shift."

  • "Easy to find. We arrived early so we went to the bar. Bartender was stuffy. Kept saying that he's about to get busy. We didn't care for him but when we got to the table our waiter was excellent. Duck gumbo was fantastic. Caesar salad had way too much anchovy paste in it did not like. Elk was delectable."

  • "Went for the first time with my husband for a date night. The food was good but not great. We thought the menu selection was limited. For the price the portion size was not great. For the money i would much rather go to Capital Grill or Smith & Wollensky's. Our waiter was good but we were never greeted by a manager and left feeling disappointed that as a first time guest we didn't receive better service. (In our reservation it was stated that we were visiting for the first time.) The Valet was slow and not very friendly. Didn't even make eye contact with me or even say hello. Don't think we will be back."
