  • "My venison was decent but my wild boar was way overcooked and extremely tough. Not a trendy spot. Older/family crowd. Food was ridiculously expensive for what they were offering. My table was wobbly, which is fine at Torchy's Tacos but not here. Mark's prices but not Mark's quality. You are simply paying to say you ate [fill in the blank "exotic" animal]."

  • "Rainbow Lodge is our go to date night place. Our recent Sunday night visit was a bit off, but still good. We were seated at a nice window table. Our waiter seemed relatively new. We started out with the taste of game with sausage for 2, venison for 2, and a very rare lamb chop. It was kind of awkward to have only one chop on a plate for two, but considering how rare it was and the fact that my knife was missing, I left the chop to my husband. We were never offered bread, which is unusual for RL. Our wine was great, as were our entrees, and after dinner drinks and dessert...although my husband ordered creme brulee but received cheese cake. Pacing was a bit slow, but it was a great night. Usually it is a phenomenal night."

  • "This is my second visit to Rainbow Lodge. My first visit was over a year ago and very short because we were never acknowledged after being seated. My date was so infuriated, that we left. This time, I went with my mother, and again, the hostesses were not welcoming by any means. Their attitude kind of dampened the mood. In regard to the food, my mother had steak and I ordered the boar. The food was amazing! Delicious. Our waiter was a little dismissive and busy, although the restaurant was not packed. We intend to return, specifically for brunch which we've heard is great as well. I caution the owners to refresh the front desk and staff on customer service."

  • "Outstanding food and service in an environment that is a rare find in today's restaurant scene. We were greeted by a charming hostess who escorted us to a private table for two overlooking a lush landscape. Mary offered us informed guidance on the menu and specials for the evening. She was attentive without being intrusive and insured everything was in order. We were tempted to try the tasting menu, but had been looking forward to the lobster thermidor and were not disappointed. From appetizer to dessert, the Rainbow Lodge was 5 stars for us."

  • "I was taken by my family to Rainbow Lodge for lunch on Father's Day. The was fine but I was very disappointed that we could not order anything other than the items on the Brunch menu. I go there for the exotic game dishes but on the brunch menu there was only a mixed grill. Very disappointed. Had not been to the new location because I was abroad for about 20 years."

  • "Consistently good. This visit was for father's day brunch, since my dad thinks this is one of the "manliest" restaurants in town (even if he thinks they do have a "girly" name lol). It was hot outside, so we couldn't eat on the patio, but even though they were fully booked the noise level was low and service was quick. At night, this is a romantic spot, quiet enough for conversation and by design semiprivate - the dining area is divided into multiple small rooms, with fireplaces and stained glass windows peppered around (along with the taxidermy). The service is consistently friendly and attentive without being pushy, and I've never had a bad meal - I have mis-ordered, but that is hardly the kitchen's fault."

  • "My husband and I went to RL for our 42nd anniversary and it was wonderful! We were fortunate enough to get the same waiter we had the last time we were there and he remembered serving us! (I'm at a loss for his name!) Anyway, the food was amazing (some of it from their garden) and the ambience quiet and romantic. In a word...perfect!"

  • "Set a reservation for dinner with my wife for our fifth anniversary. Setting was romantic and scenic. Waiter was fantastic and everyone working there were very cordial and polite. The food also was excellent and prepared nicely. Very elegant and classy. Oh and the homemade pecan pie was the best!"

  • "We took a very good friend here for her first time. We've been several times and the service and food are always impeccable. She was blown away and will definitely return. Excellent wine list and very good choices by the glass since we all like different types. The bar is a really fun place to have dinner. If weather permits the dining outside is also very nice with a lovely view looking over the Bayou. Great to take out of towners for a special evening to show off Houston. "

  • "The waiter did not know the menu and made multiple trips to ask questions as he put in our order. They were out of trout by noon on Sunday and this is a staple on the brunch menu. We heard the waiter tell a nearby couple that they were out of sorbet. Portions were small on this day. Normally receive plenty to eat but not on this day. This is one of our go to restaurants and will try them again but I hope this was just a bad day and not a trend."

  • "We decided to have brunch with mimosa to celebrate thirtieth wedding anniversary. Food was excellent. Atmosphere was lovely. Price was less than you'd expect for such fare! Mimosa was a little strong but I am sure were made by the pitcher since it was $0.99 mimosa time! Service was a bit slow but we took advantage of not being rushed and didn't complain. The party behind us ordered about ten minutes before we did, similar meals and were served, finished,gone and table cleaned before we even saw our order. On a celebratory Sunday afternoon, that was acceptable but any other time it would not have been. Lovely dessert was a surprise, complimentary since I mentioned the occasion in reservation request. We will return for another meal."

  • "I was suggested this place by a friend and my boyfriend and I were not disappointed! This place was spectacular. We were almost 30 minutes early for our reservation but were seated immediately. Our server was so quick and friendly and offered plenty of suggestions. I ordered the Buffalo special and he ordered the Sea Bass and both were to die for. Portions were perfect for an appetizer, two courses and dessert without feeling overstuffed. They even wrote "Happy Anniversary" on our dessert plate after asking about our occasion for coming in. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone willing to try wild game or just something different in a fine dining atmosphere."

  • "We went back for the first time after a few years; they have a new chef there who is fantastic. We did the 7-course tasting menu: the tastes, combinations, thought that shows up on the plate, and creativity were fabulous - no doubt one of the top five meals we've had in Houston in the last four years. Easily trumps some of the far more expensive tasting menus we've had in town. Great new chef, so friendly and great attitude. Will be going back for sure."

  • "My husband and I went here for our anniversary and it was perfect! The ambiance was great although the lighting could have been a little dimmer. Though the light was very bright, the service was good, the food was delicious, and we had a very pleasant romantic dinner. Expect to pay accordingly, but in our opinions, it was well worth it!"

  • "Quick trip to Houston so wanted no hassle fine meal. Got it in spades. Service delightful and impeccable. Got their smoked meat sampler. So good we needed a wine paring. No prob. Waitress selected and served each a generous 1/2 serving each of the perfect pairing so quickly I suspected she had anticipated my request and was prepared. Had the chef specials. Great. Must go back to try their usual fare. Sure not to disappoint. Great intro to a new favorite. "

  • "This was my first time there and I couldn't have been more pleased. As an avid outdoorsman and one who often cooks and eats wild game, I have to say WOW! The venison / buffalo / quail appetizer was wonderful. Dinner for me was the Chili Rubbed Nilgai Steak. Hands down, one of the best steaks or pieces of meat I've ever put in my mouth. The only thing that would have made it better was to have hunted the Nilgai myself. Go - you wont be disappointed."

  • "We book some places because they are near a show, or a prelude to an active evening. This dining experience is the destination! The ambience is warm, and esoteric. We loved the bar, a river scene carved from a single piece of wood. The decor brims with crystal and hunting trophies. The staff is well studied in the history of the Rainbow Lodge, and all of its delectible offerings, and happily to shared it all with us. We ordered the chef's choice, which comes with a full presentation of each of 5 or 7 courses. Our chef Kelly Boyd overflowed with savory selections and charming anecdotes. Some offerings come with herbs and greens from the property on which the lodge sits. And the property is lush and lovely for an after dinner wander."

  • "i was not very impressed with this brunch nor would i recommend it to anyone. the service was not very good. must have had the "C" staff that day. the food was luke warm. like most fixed menu places, they overbook and try and seat people in spots they would normally not seat. "

  • "Our brunch was excellent. My husband loved the crab cake. I had a delicious salad and tenderloin with scalloped potatoes. Steak was cooked perfect and as good as steaks from other steakhouses. My one problem it was pre fixed menu and we usually do not eat that much. I ate everything but brought desert home. It was too much food for each of us. "

  • "We went to the Rainbow Lodge for Mother's Day brunch and it was amazing. All the food was great, the restaurant has a beautiful log cabin-esque interior, the service was excellent, and my mom had a great time. I definitely hope to return soon. Now I have to spend some time exercising away all that excellent food I indulged in. ;) Seriously, though, Rainbow Lodge is an excellent restaurant with a beautiful intimate interior and great service. I'd highly recommend it for any special occasion. "

  • "My wife and I celebrated our anniversary with a meal at Rainbow Lodge, and it was the first time that we dined there. We were seated at very nice table, and the server did not return for 18 minutes to take our drink order. This restaurant specializes in game dishes, and it was very difficult to make any selections without the waiter's help. It was 30 minutes after we were seated when we finally placed a food order. The game sampler appetizer was quite tasty, especially the buffalo. My wife's wild boar chop was chewy, and my Niglai antelope was very rare on one side and medium rare (as ordered) on the other. Bread pudding was good."
