Diner Reviews
  • "The service was outstanding; our water glasses were always full, you hardly even noticed when wait staff removed plates. They made sure we were all happy, but they were not intrusive. We asked for recommendations from our server from appetizers, wines and entrees along with dessert. She gave good explanations of some of the items we had not had before, and the entree recommendations were right on, along with the pairing of wine. Delicious. All had a grand time, we will certainly be back again! Thank you!"

  • "I've dropped into the Radius cafe several times to get coffee, but because I always came and left from the other direction, I never realized there is this large, airy attached restaurant next door. The surprises kept coming with excellent service and delicious food and wine. We shared the duck liver mousse and pork rillettes with pickled carrots and glasses of a good red wine. I had a pound of steamed mussels with pork belly and crostini w/ rouille with a glass of Sauvignon Blanc. Everything was perfectly prepared and absolutely delicious. It was just opening for dinner and it was a quiet. I think this is a restaurant that gets busy later. Tables are well spaced in a large, airy space across from a spacious curved wooden bar."

  • "Very good first experience at Radius and was not disappointed. Menu is a tad limited but seasonal and fresh. Dishes are nicely presented with moderate portions. Decent wine list albeit a tad heavy on higher priced bottles, could use 1-2 lower priced alternatives. Service was good and timely, and server was conversant without being intrusive. The place has a very comfortable vibe and is just about the right size for this area. No liquor, only beer and wine, but just a door down from Bloodhound if you seek a cocktail."

  • "After reading the reviews we had high expectations. I have to say, we were thoroughly disappointed. The menu was not at all what was represented on line. It was the day after Valentines day and they were still offering the limited menu, which was never indicated. The meal was pricey and somewhat mediocre"

  • "I went here on a Gilt City voucher with a friend (can you say 'wine pairings'), and was so impressed by the food, I returned with my boyfriend the next day. We had the gnocchi (it's in a gorgeous miso-based broth with crispy pork belly). By far one of the best dishes I've had in the last several months. The location is slightly off the beaten path, but with places like Bloodhound, Driftwood, City Beer Store, and Raven right near by, it's a good area that you can make a night of."

  • "Amazing food. Wow. But, we sat in the back near a large party, and it was difficult to have a conversation."

  • "Service: The service we received that evening can best be described as absent. The staff was not rude, just absent. Our waitress was also working as the hostess - perhaps they were understaffed. It took 15 minutes for someone to take our drink order. Another wait to take our order, and long lag-time between courses. In fact, we considered leaving before our entrees arrived. Food: My "Hommage a San Francisco" was tough, chewy, underdressed and under seasoned. It took 10 minutes to flag someone down for salt & pepper (absent.). We both ordered the roasted pork chop. It had been brined too long: it was spongy and rubbery. The sauce had reduced too far and was cloyingly sweet. The side order of carrots were way undercooked. Deserts were good."

  • "I think my favorite thing about Radius was the wine list. It had a nice selection of local (100 radius) of reds. I would go back just for the wine. The desert menu was delightful. I had the vanilla and olive oil shake, a not too sweet or thick- and my companion had a perfect lemon tart. We will go back in spite of the waiter telling us they needed the table at 7:30 at 6:15. We ignored the jerk and had a great time!"

  • "Fairly decent restaurant in the soma neighborhood. It has interesting takes on California cuisine but it doesn't have amazing execution. If you have money to eat out and just want food, than this place is great. I wouldn't drive 45min-1hour to make this a destination location. The bathroom needs to be cleaned/renovated."

  • "This is a great place. Brilliant take on the locovore concept. Really good food. Nice people. Hip crowd. Cool space."

  • "Excellent: bone marrow, sturgeon, fried chicken, olive oil milkshake, lemon tart, steak. Romantic environment; dim lighting."

  • "We went during Dine about Town since its a bit expensive. The food was yummy although small portions. They made a mistake in my order and the waiter was very apologetic and corrected it quickly."

  • "Been here a few times now. The night we went the power went out but that didn't phase our server, Frederic. He just kept on serving us, explaining the menu, giving us many candles and was more than pleasant. After a about 35 minutes the power was back on and it was as wonderful as always. We like that most of the food/wine is from within 100 miles but had to give them a bit of lip as Monterey is 115 miles away :-) Always great w/o being pretentious"

  • "A friend told me this place was the most underrated restaurant in SF. I find that hard to believe. I found the food to be sub-par, the wine to be awful. Not sure who is making the executive decisions for the food or the wine but some thought should me given to each. If I were to recommend this place to anyone it would be the expense account crowd, but since there are so many better options in town I find it hard to do even that."

  • "One of the best meals ever in San Francisco and I've lived here for 20 years! I don't know what they did to the sturgeon and "tubers" but I left my plate embarrassingly clean! It was that good! My friend said her pork chop was out of this world! We started with the beet salad which was quite tasty too. For dessert, we had the very good lemon tart, but there are no words to describe how good the "milkshake" with olive oil and cookies were! Service was superb and unpretentious. I would eat here every day if I could! I'm not sure why others are complaining about the noise. We were here on a crowded Thursday night and the volume levels were fine."

  • "Best meal I've had here yet. Service was nothing short of superb. Wish it wasn't so noisy, but still a terrific dining experience."

  • "Love the concept and the service was stellar. Velvety duck liver mousse was the next best thing to outlawed foie gras. Ribeye was cooked perfectly although just a bit chewy. I love frisee but did not care for the heavy seasoning in its preparation. The lemon tart was exquisite -- perfection on a plate. We would go back in a heart beat if it were not for the noise level that detracted seriously from the experience. (Very loud group in the back room.)"

  • "I live nearby Radius, so I've always wanted to give this restaurant a try. So, my boyfriend and I decided to try their New Year's Eve prix fixe menu. We looked at their five course menu on OpenTable, thought the items looked great, and were lucky enough to get a reservation. Once we got there, the place was cute. We even got some party favors to take home! As for the food and service, I would say it was decent. No courses particularly stood out that would make me want to come back. My biggest issue was that we weren't served all the courses that were advertised on the menu! However, I didn't see anyone else at the restaurant getting them either, so I decided not to make a big deal out of it."

  • "We chose this for a before-theatre dinner and it was perfect. We indicated that we were headed to the Orpheum and they were prompt with service but we were never rushed. They were attentive but not obtrusive. The food choices were excellent from a small but varied menu; wine choices good but note that they are all California wines, given the 100 mile radius theme of the restaurant. The pork and sturgeon dishes were fantastic. I loved the beet salad with dill cream and the fresh bread was from Acme in Berkeley, also deliciously fresh and good! The chocolate pudding was great, once we found it at the bottom of the dish."

  • "Wonderful menu. Great appetizers. Girlfriend is picky vegetarian and she loved it. Meat was cooked perfectly. Updated menu since last time. Service was great. Never had to ask for my water or wine to be topped off. Healthy and delicious."

  • "Server was patient as getting our group to all sit down was like herding cats. Very good menu selections for both food and drink. Everyone in our group enjoyed it. One person made a comment about how high the bill was, but he obviously doesn't get out much. There is an outside patio, would be nice to try in warmer weather. And don't forget to feel under the tables, was a fun bit of our evening's conversation."

  • "The food is excellent and bit on the pricy side. With their "nouveau cuisine" food presentation, the quantity of each plate is rather tinny. After spending fair amount of money, we walked away still feeling not fulfilled. Same results for both visits, I don't think I will go back there again just because there are so many other good options in the city."

  • "Wanted a new experience in downtown San Francisco and found it. Walking to the Radius is no treat, given the surrounding area we went through ... but upon arrival, it was a nice spot. Went on a Tuesday night, so the place wasn't that full but we had a nice dining experience. Wait staff was very efficient and the food was very good. I wouldn't put it as a 10 on the dining experiences but was very glad we went. I'd say it's more in the 8 range but would recommend to friends."

  • "We had dinner at Radius on Black Friday. Because of the holiday it was pretty quiet, although there were still a couple of other tables dining. The food was perfect, and the service lovely. We met some new friends and were talking so we weren't the easiest people to serve, plus we stayed after everyone else had left. Despite this, the staff were extremely patient and friendly, and made us feel welcome right up until closing time. The quality of the food and produce was excellent, would definitely come back if in town again."

  • "The food was really nice, though the timing was really hurried. Our server was very nice, but the 45 second check in after a dish was presented was a little much I get that in most circmstance they are trying to get people in and out- maybe it was also the gilt package urgency, but 3 course and wine were basically slammed through with in 50 minutes i would go back again, probably for a snack or a glass of wine or if i was with a large group"

  • "The food was wonderful and unusual. Several dishes we ordered, like the grits dish, were not particularly interesting on the menu, but in reality were creative and delicious. We didn't try the wine because we are not big fans of Californian wine and radius sources all their food and drinks from within 100 miles radius."

  • "We were visiting from Chicago, so we have great restaurants as well. We went for a friends birthday party and the food was good (not great). I would recommend the oysters, lamb, and mussels. I would say that the service was terrific. Our waitress and rest of staff was excellent and took very good care of us."

  • "Every dish was interesting and flavors were outstanding. Sunchoke soup, beef tartare, pate, gnocchi, pork dish. Delicious dish of grits- unexpectedly creamy and richly flavored. Lemon tart and chocolate cake worth ordering. Service was friendly and efficient. My only knock, and this was very minor, is that our waitress was not well versed in the wine list. But we guessed and it worked out well- the list is somewhat limited, but what's on there has been carefully chosen."

  • "Was in SF for a convention and searched for a "Farm to Fork" type restaurant. Somehow came across the Radius website. Glad that I did. Lovely little restaurant, all as advertised. They do very creative things with local veggies, meat and fish. Everything that came out of the kitchen was great. It's a little bit of a hike from the Moscone center, and a few sketchy blocks in between, so take a cab if that kind of thing bothers you."

  • "We had the very best service provided by The Beautiful Gal from Amador County. The Starters were the best. They included: Mussels, Bone Marrow, the Moose. Our Lovely Gal told us that our entrees were ready but we were not quite ready for them. So the pork shoulder, rib eye, and sturgeon were all a bit dry, tasty but just a bit dry. That comment was unanimous at our table. Would we return to you establishment, yes. It is certainly worth another try. Thank you."

  • "Brought guests here for our third dinner at Radius and everyone loved everything -- we ordered cheeses for the table, and the beet salad, duck liver mousse and pork rillets for starters, and had the deconstructed fish and chips (with sturgeon), the steak, the lamb done Turkish style and the gnocchi, and every plate was a winner. The chef was kind enough to serve the gnocchi without pancetta for our vegetarian daughter. Our server was knowledgeable and professional -- never interrupted us too much, but was able to answer questions and help us with wine, etc. Lovely experience all around."
