Diner Reviews
  • "Took my lady out for a birthday dinner and it was spectacular. The ambience was perfect, the food was amazing and the view was breathtaking and I didn't even have a window seat yet could still experience the view the restaurant had to offer. The drinks were also mixed very well, not to light but not too strong, yet had the kick I wanted since I was drinking liquor. I would definitely recommend this restaurant to a friend as well as visit again, soon."

  • "I've been to R2L 9 or so times. This was by far the best visit yet. The filet was perfect, service attentive... I highly recommend it... Again."

  • "I always enjoy my time at R2L. Dinner was delicious and our server, Trevor, was excellent."

  • "The only real reason we came here was because everyone said the views were spectacular. I'm from Miami and I can't say the views were bad, but definitely not that incredible, as Philly is a poor city. It was nice to seat by the window (to get a window seat, go during the weekdays), and to have the meal looking out. The food was good, not great. I had the short ribs but they weren't as tender as I had hoped. The dessert was good (it was a vanilla molten cake), and they even gave us tiny additional desserts when we paid, which were yummy. My boyfriend had the tune and he said it was good, but not great. Overall, if you want a place with a "view" you go here (or better, Miami!) but don't have high expectations for the food."

  • "The restaurant has a decent menu, and the quality of the food is to be expected for a type of place such as this that is know for it's views of the city. Fortunately there is a dress code which is rarely found today. Men are required to wear a collared shirt. Athletic apparel such and sneakers and sweats are not permitted. The views of the city are not that impressive since the restaurant faces towards West Philly and University City; however it is recommended to have them let you walk into one of their conference/banquet rooms for views of Center City and South Philly."

  • "Spectacular view of the cityscape and the food/service is excellent"

  • "Many restaurants with amazing views can rely on those views, and fall short on either food quality or service quality. Not R2L. They get everything right here. The unmatched panoramic view of the city is equalled by the food and service. Our server was knowledgeable and attentive, but never intrusive, nor absent. The food was superb. Our table enjoyed fresh raw clams, lobster bisque soup, braised short ribs and lobster paella, which was actually deconstructed- serving chunks of delicious lobster and sausage over a creamy risotto. Our group had only one night in Philly (visiting from NYC), and dinner at R2L was the highlight. We will certainly be back, as well as recommend again and again."

  • "I celebrated my 6 year anniversary here, words would not be enough to describe the experience, waiter was fabulous, appetizers wonderful, wine great, main course, every taste from beginning to end was a memory to my tummy:)) but the greatest of all was the scene looking over Philadelphia, the window seat is a must ! It gave me a greater respect for the city and it's beauty! I cannot wait to return , the prices were not as bad as ppl said and it was all worth it in the end:))))"

  • "It is always a special occasion when we have the good fortune to dine at this restaurant. The view is wonderful and there is always something special on the menu. Service is excellent and management is attentive. My dinner companion and I had different opinions about the food. His dinner was very good while mine was just average but we will definitely return."

  • "The dessert was amazing, and that's about it. Slow service. And beware, you wear anything they don't like and you're relegated to the bar. Men must wear collared shirts... Hahaha."

  • "While it was not my first time at R2L, it was my first with my love. The ambience was perfect and the views were great considering we got a window seat. Jason our waiter was awesome. Was not the typical atmosphere for my love. He thought it would be stuffy and uptight considering the location but he was very surprised at how laid back and comfortable it was. They even gave a treat with happy anniversary on it. He really enjoyed it. One of our highlights of the year"

  • "For all the rave reviews about this place, it wasn't that impressive. Now don't get me wrong its a beautiful dining room an the views are awesome... but i come to a restaurant for the food. The food was all show and no go. It wasn't bad food, but for 175 dollars after tip for a 3 course meal I should of been blown away, thats all I'm saying. In the future Ill go get a good meal at Franklinville Inn and go to a skyscraper afterwords for the views. Service was good and our waiter was knowledgeable."

  • "R2L was excellent for dinner, atmosphere and friendly waitstaff and management. We really enjoyed our meail and time there and did not feel rushed. My husband ordered the braised short ribs which came with hand cut fries. The dinner came out without the fries and we had to wait a little while for them. In the meantime his meal had gotten a little cold and we had asked if it was possible to heat it up. The waiter said "of course" and took it into the kitchen. However, the manager brought my husband's food out instead of the waiter, I guess to make sure we weren't upset at all. We had no problem at all with them having to heat it up and enjoyed joking with the manager and waiter for the rest of the night. Great people!"

  • "I have nothing bad to say about this restaurant. We had 6:30 reservations and got right in. We requested a table with a view for our anniversary and got it. View was amazing. Food was outstanding and so was the service. Our waitress went about and beyond to make our anniversary special. They allowed us to bring our wedding champaigne flutes and wedding cake with no problem at all. It was truly amazing."

  • "We visited R2L for father's day dinner. The husband and I were truly blown away. First off the view is phenomenal. We arrived just before sunset and we had a window seat. It was beautiful to watch the sunset while drinking the delicious cocktails on the dinner menu. The cocktails were very good although there was not an extensive list. However, the wine list is very long and presented inside a book. They have a very extensive wine and champagne offering. The only downside is that they were out of the ribeye. Another guest in my party really wanted to try it. They were also out of the garlic chicken. For a place of its caliber I feel it is not okay for them to be out of anything. The cod and salmon were phenomenal! I will definitely be back!"

  • "I went to this place on Fathers Day. My daughter and I surprised her father with dinner here. Out reservations was at 8:30. There was no wait, which is perfect. However, there was no food either. Almost all of the entree meals were sold out, in which I was so upset. It was Father's Day! Have we not heard of the phrase, "over prepare, so that your not under prepared". So I ordered nothing but Mac & cheese. It was just a waste of my time and hard earned money. I should have went to Devon's as I first choose(this place never sells out of food) and never disappoints. Father's Day was actually ruined..."

My cup was never empty they were on top of their game with the service. The food was amazing one I the best steaks I've ever had in my life. Also the scenic view was romantic, I and my date enjoyed our time there."

  • "The food is nothing to write home about, but the view is amazing if you can get near the window. Being so high up in Philly really gives you a great shot of the city."

  • "When we got there the server seated us immediately and offered us sparkling wine for our anniversary. He was very friendly the whole time and very prompt. The good was amazing as well. I got the fillet mignon and it was so tender. It was cooked just right. My boyfriend got the chicken and love it as well. The atmosphere was quiet and romantic. The view was stunning especially since we went late at night. Also to end out our night they wrote happy anniversary on our dessert plate which at so sweet! We have no complaints what so ever and most definitely will be coming back."

  • "Often when a restaurant has a stellar view, the food is subpar. R2L in Philadelphia is a fantastic exception. The view is fantastic. But the food is even better. Drinks were great and creative; tasted delicious. The table shared the truffled flatbread – not to be missed. All three main courses were exquisitely prepared, presented, and subsequently devoured. The petite fillet mignon, the short ribs, and the pork four ways were all heavenly. We had to try the adventurous desserts. Don't be put off by the simplistic names – ask for descriptions. We shared the soufflé, the peanut butter and jelly (no, really, ask!), and the Hazelnut crunch. We could not stop making yummy noises. Cannot WAIT to return."

  • "I took my wife for her birthday on June 6, 2014. The service was outstanding and the view of Philadelphia was even better. This is by far the best view you will get in any restaurant in the city. However, the food was just ok. I thought I would be blown away by the food and I just wasn't. Im not overly picky but the spinach was hard and flavorless. The texture of the steak was great but the taste was just very bland. Steak tasted like it had no seasoning whatsoever. I paid $150 dollars for the meal which was no problem, but I have had better meals at Red Lobster. Also, the waiter, didnt really check back in with us enough, we spent too much time looking for him and trying to get his attention. I was just very disappointed with the food."

  • "I've been to R2L many times and the service was impeccable. I am a young, black, successful woman and I believe the server seen a young black face and thought, "no tip" and provided very half quality service. Great service is what attracts us to come. Now I'm not so sure. Feeling very disappointed."

  • "Steak tartare app was fabulous. Ahi Tuna divine. The skate, which the waiter talked me into, was good but the accompanying fettucine was gluey with semi-melted parmesan cheese. White beans and crusty bread would be a great pairing with the skate. The sauce was terrific. The risotto in the lobster paella was underdone. I like it al dente but not break your teeth crunchy! The beet and goat cheese salad was absolutely perfect, as was the chocolate souffle for two. Waiter very attentive but a little pretentious(which I often find in high end places:)"

  • "Both of us are vegetarian and we each chose different appetizers and entrees. All four choices were outstanding! Really delicious! Our waiter was intuitive and professional and added to the experience. Lovely dessert."

  • "Very impressed with service. My wife and I really felt taken care of from the moment we walked in. We had a drink in the lounge and were able to delay starting dinner for a bit to enjoy the view. We did not feel rushed. We Ordered the pre theater menu which was good and very reasonable. They gave us a complimentary glass of champagne for our anniversary and even wrote happy anniversary on our dessert plates! Eric the server was very professional and pleasant. Validating our parking ticket and paying only $10 was also a nice bonus. The hostess even found my sunglasses at the table and came to find me as I was leaving. The only cons were the braised short rib was a bit dry and the bartenders seemed preoccupied with getting set up. "

  • "I found out about R2L through a simple search of "top level floor restaurant" on google, as I had an interest in eating at a restaurant with such criteria with my girlfriend for our anniversary. R2L was one of the first results to come up and so I just went blindly with it. It was almost as if I hit a bull's eye blindfolded because R2L couldn't have been a better place to eat than any other restaurant. We've been to Grand Luxe Cafe, we've been to Capital Grille, hell, we both expected to food to be at Red Lobster's standards (just 37 floors ups). We couldn't have been so wrong. Not only was at a heightened level of cuisine, the service was absolutely mind-blowing. This review will have to end abruptly because of the scarcity of characters. "
