  • Good but not great. The food

Good but not great. The food was quite good but the atmosphere did not live up to the hype. First, too loud for a romantic dinner; second, the ceiling are too low so it feels somewhat closed in and they are unable to have the center tables be significantly higher than the window seats thus the only good seats are at the windows. Despite requesting a window seat with the reservation (and not being told one was unavailable), we did not get a window seat. Also, be wary of being seated facing west as the sun will set over you. All in all it was good; the rabbit taquette was delicious and the steak was done perfectly. Skip the Beignets if you are looking for Cafe Du Monde style.

Everything was near perfect until the desert portion of our meal, then we had to call the busboy over in order to get the waiter to come back to the table and even then his attention was elsewhere for the final portion of the meal. I've gone once before and had a great waiter, but this trip was less than perfect. The views are spectacular (although they seat you in the middle of the restaurant, even with empty tables near the windows). The food is great and very well presented.

First off, I have to commend both the restaurant and Open Table. It was my wedding anniversary and I put in a comment in the suggestions field (not really knowing or believing it would be read) asking for a cozy table and a view. The restaurant, besides being impeccable in every way, sat us at a window with an incredible view AND upon serving dessert, sent us a special plate decorated with Anniversary wishes! I also liked the fact that I got a call back from the restuarant confirming that they recieved the reservation from you. The food was delicious with the chef's personal signature added to traditional dishes, giving the pallet a surprise at every turn. The staff was beyond friendly and accommodating. Thanks so much!

Overall, R2L was great, with a few caveats. Negatives: I made a reservation on-line to specifying that I wanted a widow table to celebrate a special occassion. This was ignored and the hostess sat me at a table away from the window despite the fact that a window table was opening up just behind me. I had to insist twice that I be moved to the window table. Additionally, our server (Barrett) was very nice but VERY slow and inattentive. We had to wait a long time for our drinks throughout the 2 hour meal and we were served food without proper utensils, etc. It definitely detracted from the enjoyment of the night. However, the positives were that the food was excellent and the view was astounding!

The restaurant was lovely, but they did not honor a request I made at the time of booking. We were taking out friends who had just been married, and I requested a table by the window.I was told they would try to accomodate my request.I called the day before to remind them, and the day of our reservation. When we arrived, they did not seat us at a table by the window. The manager came over and said,"we are very busy tonight; we said we would TRY to accomodate you, not that you would HAVE a table by the window".He didn't say, if/when one becomes available, he would move us. Two tables became availble before we had appetizers, and I think we should have been moved to one of the tables by the window. He obviously was saving the tables for others.

Had an early reservation & when I called to confirm for a window, they said no guarantee but at that time not be a problem. Arrived 15 min early for our already early reservation & promptly got seated at a window table that we learned was not great compared to the rest of the window tables (pet peeve-I despise when restaurants put you in the worst seat to see if they can get rid of it early). The table was drafty & we suggested moving worrying our meals would be ruined not to mention I was shivering WITH a coat on, but were assured it would get better. Suffice it to say that the grease on our our overly salty food was congealed within 2 minutes of arriving, and before my side arrived. Our server was no where to be found. Not Philly's best.

We decided on R2L due to the great view for my parents who were coming into town to visit. Excellent atmosphere, food was just okay. Had to get another app because first one was aweful (Bacan-wrapped scallop potstickers). Def more of a place for a few drinks and possibly an appetizer. The warm shrimp was very good (replacement appetizer), but not worth 20.00. Go here for a fun happy hour, but there are too many other fabulous restaurants to eat a great meal in.

From start to finish the experience was excellent. We were greeted in the lobby and asked if we had a reservation, which we did. This person had communicated with the hostess upstairs because they greeted me by name once we arrived at the 37th floor. The open kitchen is adjacent to the hostess area which is a nice element especially if you have to wait to be seated. You can watch the chefs prepare food to pass the time. Once seated by the windows, which was an incredible view of the city, our waiter immediately came over to ask if we would like drinks etc. He suggested a particular bottle of red wine that worked out really well. The bottle was poured into a decanter which was a very nice touch. Food and service was excellent!

While the view is terrific, there's no peace. Staff will hound you to buy extra food (even a manager!) and interupt constantly. Menu is not for those who dislike unnecessarily tinkered-with food - nothing straightforward here. To be "special" for a wedding-anniversary dinner, they tried to foist off a table next to the noisy bar (while the dining areas were empty at 6PM Friday and didn't fill up.) Having succumbed to their plea to get an appetizer, we said no to dessert. They brought one anyway just to show off their "anniversary" chocolate-sauce drizzle. Then they tried to refuse gift cert's from the owner's previous restaurant after months of them telling us they would. Go for the bar, view and noise, not much else.

The food was very good. Not great but given that the price range was not all that expensive I would say good for what you paid. If the meal was at a higher price-point I would have been disappointed. The service was not great. Our waiter though extremely knowledgeable was just not service oriented. For example, food for the group was not brought out together so one person was left plate less while everyone's meals went cold waiting for his to come out. Then his sides never came and we had to ask for them a second time ending up with arrival after his main course was eaten (as to not let it go cold).

My biggest complaint is that we had a reservation for 9:30 and they didn't seat us until 10. Even after waiting 30 minutes passed our reservation, we still did not get a table along the windows, so we didn't get to enjoy the view, which is why we came in the first place. Our waiter was friendly and nice, but we never really felt like they acknowledged the fact that we had to wait so long. The food was good and I think priced appropriately, but I probably won't go back for dinner. Rather I would just go hang out the lounge and have some snacks, which looked very good even though we didn't have them.

The ambiance was stunning and sophisticated.. The service was excellent. We shared a sushi appetizer which we found to be tasteless. Our main course meals were very good although not exceptional. I had the veal dish which was cooked to perfection but a little too fussy for my taste. My husband had the short ribs which he said was very good, but not the best he has had. A la Carte vegetables were plain and tasty. The best part of the meal were the deserts. We were in rapture over the vanilla cake and the small filled donuts . We have eaten at Gayle many times and found the food to be more to our liking. We will return for another visit . For certain we will enjoy the bar lounge area for viewing the sunset with drinks and appetizers

We had arrived quite a bit late due to traffice, but the staff was very accomadating and seated us right away. This probably due to an early rezzie time(5:30...seated at 6PM), anything later may have been a problem since I'm sure the view improves after that. Also, this was a special occassion dinner for my 10 y/o daughter and she LOVED it! She chose the Venison Cheesesteaks as an App, and the Ribeye as her entree...she buried them both..so much so, she didn't even want dessert, but we did manage a trio of sorbets to finish up! Overall a great special occassion place or hangout spot...hard core foodies may have a problem with the menu, but that just means they have a problem! Top notch, enjoyable, and my daughter keeps raving about it!

R2L is all about the ambiance. There are breath taking views of the city, you feel as if you are floating on the clouds with the sky scrapers. It's a shame the food was mediocre because the views were so spectaculer. The food was also reasonably priced. We would definitely go back to sit at the bar for a cocktail and have some appetizers but not for dinner again. My fiance and I both ordered surf and turf. The short rib was good but my lobster was very tough and overcooked. We also ordered the sushi appetizer which left us both a little unsatisfied. I will say that the wine selection was top notch and I liked that you could order half a bottle. They brought it out in a beautiful caraffe which I also enjoyed.

We had a very nice evening at RL2. We had drinks at the bat until the rest of our party arrived. The martini glasses were too small, we all agreed we would rather pay more for a drink and have a larger drink. The beer selection was great. My husband is always very happy when there is Chimay on the menu. The service was not good, but the food was. Our waitress at the bar was very good, our waiter for dinner was not. Not at all attentive, we all agreed. Our only other complaint was it would have been nice to have a round table for our party of 6. It was very hard to talk to each other. The booths are great for a 2 or 4.
