Upon arrival our server greeted us with 2 complimentary glasses of champagne. He was very attentive without being a bother to us. The food selection was fantastic. We were also greeted by other members of the staff throughout the night who helped with selecting an after-dinner drink and dessert. All selections were beautifully prepared included the dessert which had "Happy Anniversary" written in chocolate on the plate. All this and I have neglected the most important part. We enjoyed a window seat as the sun set over the entire city of Philadelphia. After champagne provided by the house, we settled in for dinner. She had the Salmon, I had the Short Rib and Filet. The dinner was melt in your mouth good. I have to say the food on our first visit while good didn't meet expectations. This time expectations were surpassed! We ended the evening sharing the vanilla cake as recommended by the excellent staff member that served us. I got exactly what I asked for, and the view lived up to the restaurant's name. My friend's minestrone soup and salad were excellent, as was my chicken pot pie (which was actually a de-constructed version of a pie, with separately prepared chicken and crust). The dessert cart offered an interesting selection and both of us chose the big, chewy chocolate cookie, and liked it very much . They have the restaurant laid out to take full advantage of the view. I have been here twice recently. Last time was for an exccellent happy hour with great drinks and snacks at very reasonable prices. This time was lunch with a client. R2L worked great for both occasions. The service was extremely attentive both times, without being overbearing. Food was imaginative and perfectly prepared. I have read other reviews that have said great for drinks but not for dinner. The hostess sat us right next to the window. The view was breath taking and the atmosphere was romantic and cozy. You're basically paying for the experience and views. I had the filet mignon with braised spare ribs which was excellent, my wife had the "chicken pot pie" which was not a pot pie at all, and by her account was too salty. We also ordered the macaroni and cheese with lobster which our server said was one of their popular dishes- we didn't think it was all that great.
Despite what I said, it is a unique experience with great service and is definitely worth checking out for a special date. Our plans put us in the Logan Square are of the city around dinnertime, and I asked around for dining recommendations. I didn't want the Four Seasons because although the menu is terrific, the place is a little gramma-ish for us. Ladies' tea and hats with flowers and all that. A colleague recommended R2L for the ambiance and the menu, both of which she promised would deliver. She was 100% right. I mentioned our anniversary in our rezzy and R2L went to the wall to make it a special evening. Our waiter was friendly and attentive but not pushy or intrusive. The food was perfect, down to the smallest detail. A lot of places that have splendid views skim on their services and food, not R2L. Our server, Eric, was friendly and gave great recommendations. Upon hearing that we were there to celebrate the bf's birthday, he brought out champagne for us.
Food was great. I got the spiced tuna, which was superb. My boyfriend got the duo of filet mignon and braised short ribs, which he raved about. The dessert (toasted cinnamon crunch) was amazing. Our server was excellent, the food outstanding and the view was breathtaking. The staff could not have been more welcoming and friendly. We were celebrating two birthdays and as soon as we were seated we were treated to complimentary glasses of champagne for the entire dinner party. We were so pleasantly surprised and so impressed with this very generous touch of warmth and hospitality.

Our waiter was friendly and warm, not too stuffy and he let us enjoy our meal. View was awesome. While we did not find the extreme creativity that characterized Gayle, we still found serious and thoughtful cuisine. I'm not a fan of high-floor, the-view-is-the-thing restaurants, we will return to R2L. I loved it until I realized it was roughly four times the cost of what it would have cost me to prepare it at home.
