Elegant setting and live harp music. What can be better? We had a wonderful high tea experience. We selected the Palace Blend which had a caramel flavor. My husband is lactose intolerant so he started with fresh berries while mine had whipped cream in it. The sandwiches were good. Though my husband’s vegan section did not necessarily compare as carrots is not a good substitute for lox. The pastry plate was filling as was my husband’s dairy free selections.

Extraordinary experience. Best Marriott breakfast in the USA, and top 3 I’ve been to as a lifetime member. Sam the waiter was attentive, professional, and balanced the personal without being intrusive - he made an already great experience better.

Overall experience was mostly wonderful, such a beautiful building with a very interesting history. There were just a few things that were a bit of a turn off. The seating (we had an arm chair on one side and a sectional couch on the other) wasn’t very comfortable and the sectional couch wasn’t aligned very well so we had to adjust it. Such a small thing but at the cost of attending the high tea there, I had expected a bit more attention to these details. Secondly the floor was really dirty, lots of food all over the carpet. Again, small thing but we noticed it and it was kinda gross. Lastly, the service was a little lackluster, we weren’t checked in on at all and it took a while to get our check. Don’t get me wrong, it’s nice not to feel rushed, but it would have been nice to have someone check in on us once or twice. I still recommend high tea, it was a fun experience.

It was a nice atmosphere but I didn’t enjoy the lunch food options as much as the breakfast. I would go there for the buffet in the morning

Afternoon tea here was lovely. This is my favorite room in the city, just gorgeous with all the old-world details, so I was happy to take my mom here as a thank you. The sandwiches are among the best tea sandwiches I have had, and the sweets were pretty good. This would be a perfect review if the price weren’t so high. Over $300 for the two of us? Wow.

FAQs

Portions vary by experience. Buffet services (breakfast, holiday brunches) are generous and guests often call them abundant and buffet-worthy. By contrast, Signature Tea and a la carte tea sandwiches are intentionally light, many guests said the tea is elegant but not very filling. Entrées like Eggs Benedict or main lunch plates are typical restaurant portions; some guests felt a few a la carte items were small relative to their price. Choose the buffet if you want quantity.

For a quieter visit choose weekday breakfast or lunch (Mon–Fri lunch is less crowded). If you want the full spectacle, holiday decor, live harpist, caviar and champagne, attend weekend Afternoon Tea or holiday brunches (Easter, Thanksgiving, Christmas), but expect crowds and higher prices. Arrive early for buffets or reserve in advance for tea; many guests recommend weekday visits for a calmer, more relaxed experience.

The Garden Court dining room (the famous glass‑domed Garden Court) is the primary and iconic seating area. The hotel also accommodates private parties and guests have mentioned the French parlor and other private or semi-private spaces shown by concierge. If you need a private room or special seating (for celebrations or larger groups), call ahead, private dining is available and staff can advise on room options and setup.

The Garden Court recommends business casual attire. Guests often dress up for Afternoon Tea and holiday events (many wear semi-formal or smart casual outfits), making it a great spot for special occasions. If you’re attending a formal event or private celebration, you may prefer dressier attire, but business casual is the general guideline.

Yes, The Garden Court is family-friendly and frequently hosts families for special occasions (Easter brunch, birthday celebrations, children’s Santa tea). The menus include children’s items, and guests report that children are welcome and often comfortable in the space. Accessibility specifics aren’t listed, so if you need accessible seating or special accommodations, call ahead and the staff can advise and reserve an appropriate table or private room.

Yes, families and children are frequent guests. The hotel offers children’s menu items and themed experiences (Santa Tea, Prince & Princess Tea) and many guests bring kids for special occasions. The space feels welcoming to families, though kids can increase noise during busy holiday brunches. For younger children, consider an earlier seating and ask staff about kid-friendly menu choices beforehand.

Yes, call the restaurant in advance for dietary restrictions, allergy needs, private tables or celebration arrangements. Many guests report successful accommodations (gluten‑free options, birthday cakes, private-room requests), though a few reviews note inconsistent communication on busy days. For large parties, holiday events, or allergy-sensitive diners, contacting the team ahead ensures the best experience.

Yes, The Garden Court is an excellent choice for a romantic or special-occasion date night thanks to its stunning historic dining room and refined service. The stained-glass dome, Italian marble columns and harpist create a memorable, intimate atmosphere. Expect a pricier experience (tea and holiday buffets are premium-priced) and occasional variability in service, so plan reservations and consider weekday lunch or an early seating if you prefer a quieter visit.

The ambience is elegant, historic and theatrical, many guests call it breathtaking. Expect a grand, light-filled room under a stained-glass dome with Italian marble columns, Austrian crystal chandeliers, and live harp or trio music during special events. The mood is refined and celebratory (ideal for anniversaries, birthdays, tea and holiday brunches), though some guests note crowding, noise during busy buffets and occasional service lapses on very busy days.

There’s no official waiting-list policy listed, but guests frequently report lines and waits for popular services (holiday brunches, Saturday Signature Tea). Reservations are strongly recommended for tea and holiday buffets; if you arrive without one you may face a queue. Call ahead or use the reservation platform to secure your time, and phone the restaurant on the day of busy events to confirm seating.

Busiest: weekend Afternoon Teas, Sunday/holiday brunches (Easter, Christmas, Thanksgiving) and special holiday services, guests report large crowds, long lines and busy buffet stations. Quietest: weekday breakfasts and weekday lunches (Mon–Fri) are generally calmer and better for a relaxed meal. Arrive early for buffets or reserve in advance for tea and holiday events to avoid the busiest periods.

For a quieter, more relaxed experience pick a weekday (Monday–Friday) for lunch or weekday breakfast. If you want the iconic experience, live music, holiday decor, caviar cart and grand buffets, choose a weekend Signature Tea or holiday brunch, but expect crowds and higher prices. Saturday is ideal for Signature Tea lovers; weekdays are best if you prefer calm and attentive service.

Yes, The Garden Court and The Palace Hotel host private parties and private dining. Guests have arranged celebrations, tours followed by lunch, and private-event seating with assistance from concierge and restaurant staff. For private rooms, group menus, and event logistics, contact the restaurant or hotel events team to reserve and plan your party.

Yes, The Garden Court operates special services on public holidays, offering holiday-themed brunches and teas (Easter, Thanksgiving, Christmas and other holiday events). These are often ticketed or have higher price points and busy single-sitting buffet formats, so book well in advance for holiday dates.
