   Great food, amazing staff experience, delicious drinks. I enjoyed the beef skew appetizers the best. Pancake dessert was also good. Amazing entrees very fresh. I tried one of the traditional entrees but I was not a fan of the "catfish soup" (called something else). I think this was due to my own limitations, it was fresh ingredients with veggies on the side to mix but I think it was my own issue with the taste. Waitress did warn me that it had a very pungent taste, she was correct. I will be going back after the renovation and they move to the new space. 11/30/2023 last night before the renovations started.

   I went with two friends who had never been to Khmai before, we all loved the food and the ambience of the restaurant

   Delicious food, great service albeit a bit slow due to a huge party that our server needed to work.They did get us out in time for our next event! Looking forward to seeing the new spot.

   This is one of my new favorite places! The food was excellent and unlike most other food you find in Chicago. We were greeted in Khmer when we arrived to the restaurant, which was an authentic detail. The lemongrass butter with crispy garlic was delicious, as were the rice balls and the tofu curry. Highly recommend!

   Looking for that unusual ethnic restaurant that is sure to please anyone that enjoys southeast and south Asian cuisine? Definitely visit Khmai.

    Rigid reservation policy yet painfully slow, inattentive service. The majority of the wines by the glass were not available in the middle of the week. Server does not mention dishes that are not available until you place your order. Staff milling about the bar area, yet it took 15 minutes to get initial beverage. Restaurant touts there lettuce training, yet should revisit that training session. Waited 25 minutes to get one of 2 appetizers ordered. 25 minutes transpired and random server noticed we hadn’t gotten more food and assisted in bringing one of the 2 main dishes. Then 2nd appetizer arrived. As we were done with all food delivered , we inquired where second main dish was. 5 minutes later it arrived. 3 minutes later server approached table to tell us kitchen was closing so we needed to order dessert. Never told us what was even available, packed up left overs and left. When making reservation specifically noted that wanted regular not high top table. Only table available upon arriving was high top which is way too small for this type of cuisine where they pride themselves on sharing and small plates. Quality of ingredients was excellent, so understandable that prices were high. Mediocre , inattentive, condescending service made the food seem overly expensive and poor value. Hopefully in new location the service and ambiance can match the quality ingredients and high prices.
