  • "The dinner here was nothing short of excellent! The plates of seared foie gras, barramundi, and duck were all perfectly cooked and succulent. Amazing flavor profiles in every component of each dish. Not sure who the chef is but he is a master of presentation and taste. This place should be packed every night. Remember going here when it was called Trio, years ago, but that paled in comparison to this meal. The service was great. One sever was a little surly, but one was very friendly. "

  • "I must have driven past this place 100 times before someone recommended it, and let's just say it will now be a staple. The foie gras appetizer was outstanding, as was the duck entree (one of the best preparations I can recall).. My only minor criticism is that the fireplace in the main room must give off as much heat as the surface of the sun. My wife loved it, but I thought I was going to melt. Thankfully, the food quickly made me forget how hot I was! Next time, we'll simply asked to be seated away from the fireplace and problem solved! Big fan!"

  • "There are plenty of casual places to go, but recently my husband and I decided to try Quince again to enjoy the fine dining experience it has always been, but has become overshadowed by all the newer trendy places. All I can say is, yum! My husband opted for the pork belly appetizer, the rib eye steak and the bread pudding for dessert. I had the polenta appetizer, pasta filled with goat cheese and the pecan semi-fredo. We both had wine. The service was very attentive because it was not very busy when we arrived at 6:00 pm. We enjoyed being in a quiet, relaxed atmosphere surrounded by good food and drinks. This is a not a hip, see-and-be-seen venue, but sometimes it's nice to mix it up a little and act like a grown-up. We will go back!"

  • "This is an excellent restaurant in a hotel that can charitably be decribed as "dowdy'. When we walked in, we were slightly discouraged by how drab the surroundings seemed. The interior design of the place suggests a valiant attemp to create an elegant restaurant within the confines of an upscale convalescent home. Fortunately, things got MUCH better from there. The servers were knowledgeble, friendly and attentive without being overbearing. The food was just outstanding -- well preprared and beutifully presented. We will absolutely be recommending Quince to our friends."

  • "Hadn't been to the Quince location since it was Cafe Provençal so thought we'd try it during restaurant week. It didn't disappoint. The food was delicious as was the presentation. Service was top notch. Bread was so good. Too good. Such a. nice cozy atmosphere on a freezing cold night. A thoroughly enjoyable evening."

  • "We had a wonderful meal. A nice, warm, and cozy setting in the Homestead Hotel. A long time focal point in Evanston. A limited menu with 8 or 10 appetizer choices and the same for entrées. With that said, everything offered looked inviting. We are going back for another sampling. The service was top notch."

The food has been creatively conceived and exquisitely prepared and presented, This occasion was no different in those ways from my previous visits. The staff is knowledgeable about the various menu items so as to be able to describe and advise on the various choices. They are also very attentive to patrons' needs. The food quality isn't limited only to the entrees but is carried into every facet of the menu, including the coffee prepared through the French press method. For a special evening out, the Quince should be on your short list of places to dine."

  • "I took my girlfriend here for dinner and everything was just perfect: we sat next to the fireplace which felt so good after coming in from 4 degrees above zero. The wait staff was friendly and efficient: we felt special even though there were other diners to attend. The food was exceptional: my potato leek soup was finely prepared and seasoned and my girlfriend's salad was so good she ate it all, and it was quite large. Her grouper was cooked to perfection and my ravioli was tasty and adventurous. My wine was excellent, and Riesling is not easy to find that is not too sweet and not too dry, and my girlfriend's shirah was excellent. The brought out a lighted candle on our dessert to top off the evening. Will return soon."

  • "Made a last minute decision to eat here for our 25th anniversary, mainly because we had eaten here when it was Trio for our tenth. We dicided to try the 5 course tasting. Especially enjoyed the Polenta and the grouper. The crispy lamb not so much, it was a bit salty and dry (and I like salt) and the way it was prepaired it could have been anything, I liked the preperation, but it just came accross as crispy, salty fried meat. it also needed more sauce as once you broke it up there was way too much meat for the sauce that was there. Service was fantastic . . but we were one of only two parties in the restaurant. We'll be back for another try."

  • "For three of us our appetizers were wild greens (excellent), crispy lamb (very good) and vichyssoise (excellent). All entrees excellent: ox tail, duck, grouper. Great dessert cheese plate and blood orange sorbet. Service excellent. Ambiance are very good. As with all restaurants, wine list overpriced. Petit syrah was nice, but a little gritty."

The outstanding caring nature from all of the staff that continues throughout the evening. The food is not only beautifully displayed on the dish but creates flavor sensations in your mouth. Most unusual is the ambience of the restaurant which surrounds its customers in a calm and quiet environment. It is a place to go for outstanding food and conversation with a companion or friends."

  • "This hard to find restaurant is well worth the hunt! Some may know Quince occupies the same space as Treo did years ago. The restaurant has a nice wine list, but allowed us to bring wine for a reasonable corkage fee. The potato leek soup, a special item, was quite tasty. The loin of wild boar was perfectly cooked at medium and was very juicy and intensely flavorful. I haven't been able to stop thinking about it. The fish dishes my dining companions ordered looked delicious as well. The chef's style seems to be to provide many elements on each plate that work well together, but to leave it to the diner to decide exactly how to combine them in each bite. I like that approach and it works well at Quince. Highly recommended."

  • "Interesting location, situated in a hotel. The room is cozy and quiet and very intimate. The service is top-notch. The food was delicious -- I had the grouper and I inhaled it. Others in our party had the ribeye and they enjoyed it. The desserts were good but verged on being a little precious. Not every dessert needs to be deconstructed. They were still tasty, though. I'd recommend Quince and I'll be going back."

It is in a 1927 hotel/inn building that still operates as a hotel and it is just lovely. The menu is small, large wine list, dinner was outstanding."

  • "First time at Quince and did not know what to expect. The food was excellent. Highly recommend the polenta and the Snapper was perfectly cooked. Ambience is elegant with main dining room broken into several smaller rooms. Our party of 4 was placed in what I would call a 'converted porch" in a table that was next to the outdoor wall. The entire dinner my feet were like ice cubes so it was difficult to truly enjoy the dinner with such a chill. Next time I will specifically ask to be seated in a different room. Service was good and wine list very extensive but good choices in all price ranges."

  • "I was looking for a restaurant that we hadn't eaten at before in Evanston for my husband's birthday. Our friends joined us who are definite foodies. We all enjoyed our experience. The intimate, cozy ambience was perfect for our celebration. The food was presented in a lovely way with some flavors and choices we had never seen before. From steak to lobster to quail to snapper, we all enjoyed our dinners. I would definitely recommend Quince, especially for people looking for a memorable meal."

  • "My office brings in a lot of guests from out of town, and Quince is almost always our first choice for where to bring them. I have been probably a dozen times over the years and have NEVER had a bad dining experience OR anything less than delightful service. The meal was wonderful, as always. The worst you could say is that some of the dishes were a bit showy or fussy in presentation in ways that didn't benefit texture or taste (I might say this of the maple mousse, for example). But everything was delicious, and the sweet potato soup and the snapper were real standouts. We were eating from a limited menu for work reasons, and they still produced a vegan option on the spot for one guest, which was terrific as well."

  • "The food and service at Quince are superb. Teeming with flavors from unique fruits and vegetables, the entrees are a delight to the palate and an artistic display. Our waitor selected a yummy sparkling wine from Spain to kick off our wedding anniversary celebration. My wife and I shared an appetizer of ravioletti, delicious tender, small ravioli with pillows of pumpkin puree tucked inside.. Cobia ,a special fish much like swordfish but more tender and refined was my choice of entree. A medley of vegetables pureed to perfection surrounded the fish and enhanced its flavor. I hated to take the last bite of this tasty, perfectly cooked treasure. it was so delicious. Thank you Quince for the most delicious meal of the year."

  • "We hadn't heard prior about Quince; I open-tabled due to its proximity to Northwestern campus. It turned out to be a very pleasant surprise and a wonderful evening. We did the tasting menu, which in our minds is the best way for a chef to show their mastery. I did the wine pairings. Having dined at Alinea, French Laundry, Charlie Trotters et al, I will tell you that Quince held its own. The staff was pleasant and accommodating, and made a great time easy and accessible. Kudos to Tony, who was our server. All in all, a great evening and a superb (and reasonably affordable) fine dining experience."

  • "Each dish on the pricey menu has a tantalizing list of ingredients providing a full palette of taste, texture, color, but the end result was like a three ring circus with so much going on at the same time you couldn't fully appreciate it. Top quality ingredients were also used in such miniscule amounts as to be silly and frustrating. The waitstaff was fine when we saw them, but they didn't appear when we needed them most. The dining room decor was sterile and the actual room temperature cold. I'd had a similar experience here in May 2012 with uneven waitstaff and puzzling mixes of ingredients. Lured back with a restaurant.com certificate I'd hoped that they'd become less fussy and complicated but that was not the case. I left hungry."

  • "My partner and I hopped up to Quince on the spur of the moment for a meal this past Saturday. We got in fairly easily which was surprising but the restaurant seemed to be doing well when we arrived in terms of enjoying a good if mostly older crowd. Started with a delicious corn soup and followed with a vegetarian pasta option. Presentation was lovely, service was very friendly and everything was tasty. Generally, main courses were around $30 and although there had clearly been a good amount of detail and care put into the plates, I did not think that the quality of the meal warranted the price. My partner's chicken was just a wee bit dry and my pasta was lovely but not particularly memorable."

  • "Had not had dinner that this restaurant for awhile. If anything it has gotten better. In addition, Quince seems to be sourcing its ingredients from more local vendors which is something to be encouraged. My short rib entree was excellent as was my wife's fish entree. Clearly, Quince is one of Evanston's better choices for dining."
