The setting for Quiessence is extraordinarily lovely; it's a converted farmhouse on a working farm. The first hiccup was they had run out of gin so a few of the drinks that we were considering weren't available. The only other minor hiccup was it would have been nice to have gotten water refills more regularly. Otherwise, service was excellent. My friend and I did the tasting menu, which ended up being 7 courses plus an amuse bouche. Everything was excellent but the halibut in particular was simply outstandingly excellent. A fantastic and creative menu that was very well executed. I strongly recommend it and look forward to going back.6/1/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat place for flavor and ambianceOur table was next to a rustic picture window looking out on a coarsely tended patio and yard area connoting roots of a rural farm environment. Our waiter was attentive and knowledgeable about the menu and the wine list. The multi course pre-planned meal was a delight to all the senses. Each course brought a different highlight to the pallet. We did the chefs trasting menu; 6 well thought out plates that were as beautiful as they were yummy. Deep rich flavors enticed with very fresh vibrant vegetables picked from local growers, some from their on site gardens.
The wait staff were knowledgable, attentive and consistently great.

It is such a beautiful restaurant and the atmosphere is unforgettable! The fish (Kona Kampachi) was grilled with a pink center...perfectly cooked and very tasty. The pork tenderloin wrapped in ash, although a meat dish. WAS COOKED EXACTLY THE SAME WAY, with a pink center. The pink center was not the problem...one course following another should have a distinctively difference...oh yes, fish and pork is distinctively different. Presenting two course following each other, one should have the feeling of a NEW experience in appearance and method.

Ordered the chef's dinner, 6 full courses and a light fava bean morsel to start with. Each course was delivered by a knowlegeable staff member (there must have been 4 or 5 different servers throughout the evening). Quiessence is located in a very quiet spot set back from the road. Even though it is very close to the airport, we didn't hear one air place. Sitting on the outdoor patio was very relaxing. One of the six courses was only good, the others exceptional. Not sure its worth the $300 for a couple for a food and wine flight, but I cant think of one better. The wine selection was appropriate for us and our food selection. The gnocchi was excellent, we have never had better. The setting of restaurant in a garden is relaxing and is completed by the decor. We do not get to Phoenix all that often but we will get to this restaurant the next time we vacation in Phoenix. It's located at the Farm at South Mountain and feels like you're being transported out of the city. The food was fantastic and the server did a very nice job. It was our 3 year anniversary, and Quiessence helped up celebrate with a complimentary dessert plate which was unexpected and very nice. The pastas and entrees were very good and we're always surprised by the creativity. The service, as always, was outstanding, helpful staff, always willing to answer questions or suggest wine pairings. The only criticism we have is we wish there was a larger selection of entrees to choose from. Both experiences were simply wonderful but dinner was among our all time favorite dining experiences. We enjoyed the Chiefs' tasting with the wine paring. Our server was superb helping us learn more about AZ and west coast wines. Stinging nettle soup was outstanding, as was the arctic char salad. The NY strip was so flavorful we asked the server what special spice rub was used; "little bit of salt, little bit of pepper and really good beef" was the answer--shows you what quality ingredients do!
Wine pairings were excellent, and 3/5 pairings were from AZ vineyards and 1 was from NM, so the southwest was well represented with outstanding wines.3/14/2013 12:00:00 AMperfect farm to tableThis is the perfect farm to table restaurant. You are dining on the site of the farm. The service was perfect. Willing to substitute wines when the selected pairing was not to my taste.
The only negative that I could note was that the portions were rather large on the tasting menu. I had to take my last (meat) course home to be able to enjoy the dessert course.

The ambiance was wonderful, set aside at night in a quaint house at the end of a farm. The food was outstanding, and with a daily rotating menu, we can enjoy different dishes whenever we go back.
