A word from Quiessence Restaurant & Wine Bar
Quiessence received 4.5 stars from Arizona Republic Food Critic Howard Seftel!!!

Zagat says, "Set in a historic home with a warm country feel", this "romantic" South Phoenix "gem" matches its "magical location" with an American menu based on "local, sustainable, handcrafted" ingredients and a "deep" wine list; "impeccable service" and a "calming" ambiance.

Quiessence at The Farm delivers a truly "farm-to-table" experience using locally sourced produce, meat and wine, to create a refined rustic menu.

Tucked away in The Farm at South Mountain with a unique indoor and award-winning outdoor dining, Quiessence delivers farm-focused and uncomplicated cuisine; a delight of cheeses, artisan breads, handcrafted pastas and local produce.

The American and Arizonan wine list is accompanied by an international reserve list designed to pair with the balance of the cuisine.

Diner Reviews
  • "I will be coming back, Wonderful friendly staff. quite romantic atmosphere!"
    Dined on 8/16/2014
  • "Best meal I've had in years. Everything is made fresh, even the butter was a freshly made infused spread. I don't remember the details but our server broke it down for us. The amount of thought and preparation that goes into every element of the dining experience is unparalleled thus far."

  • "As always, my Quiessence experience was fabulous. I love to dine there and will continue to do so. Highly recommended."

  • "Everything from the venue to the ambience, the knowledgable and attentive wait staff, the fresh ingredients and their artistic preparation made the dining experience a memorable and fabulous one. I will forever thank my sister and brother-in-law for giving us a gift certificate for Quiessence, and we will definitely be back after the summer break and will be giving a gift certificate to our best friends. We feel as if we discovered a tucked-away gold mine."

  • "My wife and I haven’t been this excited about a restaurant in a long time. We dined there about a month ago and again two nights ago; this was our second visit since the chef change over. The “old” Quiessence was great, but the “new” Quiessence is even better. You can see and taste the kitchen team’s passion in their offerings. The dishes are original, the plating is magnificent and the food quality/taste is superb. The food is allowed to speak for itself, without being overly fussed or gratuitously seasoned. Quiessence is truly creating some of the finest food in Arizona. We can’t wait for them to reopen after their summer hiatus."

  • "We went to Quiessence to celebrate my husband's birthday. We absolutely loved the food, dessert and drinks. Everything was delicious and the service was great, but the formage board was our favorite! This place is a little pricey, but it's really worth it! We can't wait to go back. Thank you to the manager, Jay Yada, who treated us so well!"

  • "Food was very good but very expensive considering portion size. Very limited choice in wines by the glass. Very limited number of entrees. Atmosphere is outstanding. Pretty location."

  • "Took our first trip to Quiessence for an anniversary celebration. The ambience was perfect; the staff were wonderful; the food was outstanding and the wine excellent. Best restaurant experience in greater Phoenix if you are looking for a well thought out, quiet celebration."

  • "With the exception of a wonderful charcuterie platter for the table that was sensational the remaining dishes were very average and nothing special. When your spending more than $100 a person ( including wine ) I believe the meal should be memorable. I recently enjoyed the tasting menu at Gramercy Tavern in NYC. While it was more expensive I am still remembering the tastes and flavors .I arranged specifically to come into Phoenix to dine here. Unfortunately, it was not worth the effort."

  • "We were stuck in Phoenix due to a late connecting flight. Open Table pointed us to Quiessence at the "Farm". We had the six course dinner with the wine pairings. It was a lot of wine. The Chef was going to show us his complete culinary skill set in one meal. The Gnocchi with Pork, was FANTASTIC. A complete meal by itself. The opening courses outshone the main course. Dessert was AWESOME. Great venue and a must if you have plenty of time and $$$$$."

  • "It would have been much easier to write this review and it would have gotten 5 stars had Quiessence also nailed the protein - the halibut was overcooked and the steak could have been more tender with less connective tissue. For the price, this course should have been the star, but the charcuterie board, salad and pasta dishes were truly outstanding. I also must warn that the six course menu, "tasting" has fairly generous portions - only a bad thing if you like to finish your plate every course. The wait staff was courteous, knowledgable and energetic. I appreciated being seated on the patio as the outdoor setting in the lush garden was quite romantic and very peaceful."

  • "This is the place to go to really experience food. We did the seasonal tasting menu. In selecting it, we tasted so many wonderful combinations of foods new to us! The chef was able to modify the selections to our requests which was wonderful. Pricey to be sure but well worth the cost!"

  • "I wanted to take my for her birthday to a romantic spot, but not only was it romantic but the service, online reservations, food and setting was amazing! Definitely recommend this place for all occasions! "

  • "This was my first trip to Quiessence and I absolutely loved it, even before I got the food! The setting is very romantic. Surrounded by a lot of lush green plants and blooming flowers I felt, for a few hours, like I wasn't in the desert. They have a unique specialty drink menu, a great staff and the food was delicious! And after eating every ounce of the tasting menu, I didn't feel guilty because all the food was made with fresh ingredients most of which they grow onsite. I will go back every chance I get. "

  • "We had the six course dinner with the wine selections. We found it quite good. Enough so that we would return and recommend to our friends. Thank you."

  • "Sat on back porch (lacking any kind of ambiance) next to a table w/children. On a normal casual night that would have been fine, but on a special night not so much. Not a place to take your children when other tables are out for a much needed romantic dinner! Our experience would have been much lovelier on the front porch, unfortunate for our visit. We made a reservation, but did not know to ask or wait for a better spot"

  • "We had dinner friday night and requested a patio table. It was a perfect evening, with a view of the "front yard" with flowers, trees and great birdsong. We had the seasonal tasting menu, with 6 courses. The portions were an appropriate size--we did not feel too stuffed! Some courses we were served the same, but others we each had something different so we were able to taste many different things. We started with a cheese plate, carpaccio, a soup, and a wonderful salad with fiddlehead ferns. The potato gnocchi was some of the best I have ever eaten. We then had the halibut and New York strip. Dessert and a latte rounded out the evening. I will definitely be going back."

  • "I had the chef tasting with wine pairings. The waitress confidently explained the process and what I could expected. They were happy to customize the menu to accommodate my vegetarianism and a food allergy. Everything was delicious and presented beautifully. The wines truly suited each dish and the waitress was friendly and attentive without being overly familiar."

  • "Our family had visited The Farm on several occasions for brunch and had wondered about Quiessence. When planning my wife's birthday I thought it was time to try it. We were seated at a quiet table and decided to enjoy the tasting menu. Letting the chef provide the best the kitchen makes is always a treat. Our server, David, was amazing. He suggested the wine pairing, which turned out to be quite good. He had lived in the south of France, an area we toured quite extensively a few years ago, so the evening was remarkable. We will return."

  • " You drive into this place through a pecan orchard strung with draping string lights. The restaurant is in an old farm house in the back of the property surrounded by an overgrown grassy garden with vines, flowers, and trees. There are birdhouses and lanterns. It's so quaint and pretty. The food is super fresh, unique and rustic. Just be prepared,It's pricey."

  • "A lovely relaxing serene scenic...restaurant. There aren't enough adjectives to compliment Quiessence properly. The service was outstanding with one of the most knowledgeable waitresses I've met. Totally relaxing with outstanding food. I had the duck (which I often have since I can never ever cook duck properly) - it was wonderful as was the green salad. My husband had the halibut which he loved too. Do reserve a table outside and enjoy the view of the farm and pure quietness! This was our first time and I can't wait to come back! Kudos to the owners, the chef and the staff of this outstanding restaurant!"

  • "I tasked myself with picking a "first date" location (we've known one another for years but a reconnection turned mutual romantic interest made this... more) and not familiar with the area I took to some research. There are certainly many options offering the "oh so typical" and trendy bistro environment but I sought something that was a bit more unique and carried more classically romantic flair without being stuffy and pretentious. Quiessence is a beautiful, very romantic and wonderful, "farm fresh" restaurant. There are a variety of indoor and outdoor seating options and they tout a variety of chef-whimsical menu options that are seasonally selected. Overall the night was an amazing night for many reasons and Quiessence delivered."

  • "This is a farm and the restaurant is simple but comfortable. Food is first rate; vegetables are grown at the farm. We've added this to our "return soon" list. Note that the restaurant is about a quarter of a mile off the road; be sure to ignore the parking lot across the street and drive to the restaurant."

  • "Simply stated...... Food, service, atmosphere. Awesome Location is a bit odd. I almost decided not to go, glad I didn't turn around I eat out at fine restaurants often. Hands down this was a 10!!!"

  • "We can with some friends, for most of us, our first time. Love love this place. I want to share this special place with more of our family and friends. Service was great and as well as the drinks and food. "

  • "What a find. Just 15 minutes from Phoenix International Airport (we booked in for dinner before a red eye flight back to NYC), and yet we never heard a plane. What you do hear is the sweet singing of hundreds of birds nestling in the trees and bushes and feeding from the beds of kitchen garden plots. The settings is amazing. The food outstanding and the service impeccable. We had some interesting and varied food during our week long tour of the National Parks in Utah and Arizona. Quiessence was unmistakably the best restaurant we ate in, at every level. For those of you who have eaten at Blue Hill at Stone Barn in NY - this is AZ's equivalent, and every bit as good. "

  • "This was our first visit since the ownership change, and all is in exceptionally good hands! My wife and I had a wonderful experience; this simply has to be the most romantic restaurant in the Phoenix area. Service was excellent, very non-intrusive yet always close with water refills, etc. Our server was highly knowledgeable about both that day's food selections, but also well versed in the restaurant's history and way of doing things, which made the evening even more fun. "

  • "The service was horribly slow. 3 1/2 hours for a standard meal is way too long. The time between the courses was very long. Too bad because the food and ambiance were very good!"
    Dined on 4/12/2014
  • "This is a lovely venue but the food was lukewarm, bland, uninspiring, and expensive for the low quality. The waitress was also very chatty. We were strongly encouraged to order the two pastas as a table appetizer, they were below average and not very tasty. We also had to ask repeatedly for silverware, plates, ice, and the normal items that diners require. The staff was friendly but amateurish, they did not really seem to know how to run a restaurant or how to prepare and serve delicious food. The pork shank was cold, the duck breast was okay but I would not order it again, the wine was pretty good but expensive, the bar cocktails were not special."

  • "This is easily in my top ten dining experiences ever. The Farm in general is beautiful, the food was absolutely outstanding, and most of all, our waiter was perfect. He was super laid back, very kind, and welcoming. If I lived in Arizona, I would be a regular."

  • "We had the chef's seasonal tasting menu with wine pairings in a beautiful, very romantic setting. Quiessence is one of our favorite restaurants in Phoenix when we want to experience fine dining. The 6 course menu with wine pairings was a wonderful evening of excellent food that is fresh, organic and perfectly seasoned (never too much salt or garlic here). It was well worth the price for a lovely evening we won't soon forget. Treat yourself to Quiessence!"

  • "Had heard good things about this restaurant but we're not impressed. We were first seated indoors by the fireplace, a very musty smell had us move to the patio. Service was great, two great wines were recommended. The pork shank was fatty and not very good. The halibut came with a san marzano tomato based sauce but they were not good together. The crispy duck was just alright. Two hours for the main courses to arrive. For the price and ambiance, you would be better off someplace else."
