A word from Quiessence Restaurant & Wine Bar
Quiessence received 4.5 stars from Arizona Republic Food Critic Howard Seftel!!!

Zagat says, "Set in a historic home with a warm country feel", this "romantic" South Phoenix "gem" matches its "magical location" with an American menu based on "local, sustainable, handcrafted" ingredients and a "deep" wine list; "impeccable service" and a "calming" ambiance.

Quiessence at The Farm delivers a truly "farm-to-table" experience using locally sourced produce, meat and wine, to create a refined rustic menu.

Tucked away in The Farm at South Mountain with a unique indoor and award-winning outdoor dining, Quiessence delivers farm-focused and uncomplicated cuisine; a delight of cheeses, artisan breads, handcrafted pastas and local produce.

The American and Arizonan wine list is accompanied by an international reserve list designed to pair with the balance of the cuisine.

Diner Reviews
  • "Had heard good things about this restaurant but we're not impressed. We were first seated indoors by the fireplace, a very musty smell had us move to the patio. Service was great, two great wines were recommended. The pork shank was fatty and not very good. The halibut came with a san marzano tomato based sauce but they were not good together. The crispy duck was just alright. Two hours for the main courses to arrive. For the price and ambiance, you would be better off someplace else."

  • "This is a farm and the restaurant is simple but comfortable. Food is first rate; vegetables are grown at the farm. We've added this to our "return soon" list. Note that the restaurant is about a quarter of a mile off the road; be sure to ignore the parking lot across the street and drive to the restaurant."

  • "I tasked myself with picking a "first date" location (we've known one another for years but a reconnection turned mutual romantic interest made this... more) and not familiar with the area I took to some research. There are certainly many options offering the "oh so typical" and trendy bistro environment but I sought something that was a bit more unique and carried more classically romantic flair without being stuffy and pretentious. Quiessence is a beautiful, very romantic and wonderful, "farm fresh" restaurant. There are a variety of indoor and outdoor seating options and they tout a variety of chef-whimsical menu options that are seasonally selected. Overall the night was an amazing night for many reasons and Quiessence delivered."

  • "This was our first visit since the ownership change, and all is in exceptionally good hands! My wife and I had a wonderful experience; this simply has to be the most romantic restaurant in the Phoenix area. Service was excellent, very non-intrusive yet always close with water refills, etc. Our server was highly knowledgeable about both that day's food selections, but also well versed in the restaurant's history and way of doing things, which made the evening even more fun. "

  • "We can with some friends, for most of us, our first time. Love love this place. I want to share this special place with more of our family and friends. Service was great and as well as the drinks and food. "

  • "What a find. Just 15 minutes from Phoenix International Airport (we booked in for dinner before a red eye flight back to NYC), and yet we never heard a plane. What you do hear is the sweet singing of hundreds of birds nestling in the trees and bushes and feeding from the beds of kitchen garden plots. The settings is amazing. The food outstanding and the service impeccable. We had some interesting and varied food during our week long tour of the National Parks in Utah and Arizona. Quiessence was unmistakably the best restaurant we ate in, at every level. For those of you who have eaten at Blue Hill at Stone Barn in NY - this is AZ's equivalent, and every bit as good. "

  • "We celebrated my husbands birthday here a few weeks ago! Loved the food and the overall experience! It was a lovely time and we plan to visit again very soon. We sampled the tasting menu which we would both recommend! Great date night spot!"

  • "This is easily in my top ten dining experiences ever. The Farm in general is beautiful, the food was absolutely outstanding, and most of all, our waiter was perfect. He was super laid back, very kind, and welcoming. If I lived in Arizona, I would be a regular."

  • "The food was good...small portion and monumentally expensive."
    Dined on 4/10/2014
  • "The service was horribly slow. 3 1/2 hours for a standard meal is way too long. The time between the courses was very long. Too bad because the food and ambiance were very good!"

  • "This is a lovely venue but the food was lukewarm, bland, uninspiring, and expensive for the low quality. The waitress was also very chatty. We were strongly encouraged to order the two pastas as a table appetizer, they were below average and not very tasty. We also had to ask repeatedly for silverware, plates, ice, and the normal items that diners require. The staff was friendly but amateurish, they did not really seem to know how to run a restaurant or how to prepare and serve delicious food. The pork shank was cold, the duck breast was okay but I would not order it again, the wine was pretty good but expensive, the bar cocktails were not special."

  • "We had the chef's seasonal tasting menu with wine pairings in a beautiful, very romantic setting. Quiessence is one of our favorite restaurants in Phoenix when we want to experience fine dining. The 6 course menu with wine pairings was a wonderful evening of excellent food that is fresh, organic and perfectly seasoned (never too much salt or garlic here). It was well worth the price for a lovely evening we won't soon forget. Treat yourself to Quiessence!"

  • "Went here for my Anniversay and the service, food and atmosphere were amazing. Everything is local and from the farm. The staff was always smiling and friendly and very educated on the food and made great recommendations."

  • "Upon a recommendation by a friend, we tried Quiessence for dinner. What an enormous treat it was!! The location is a farm house in Phoenix, which in and of itself was a surprise. We were greeted warmly, even after we explained that we were quite early for our reservation. They were not ruffled, although they were in the process of seating a large party in their back room. Our table was comfortable and Dave, our waiter, delightful. The food was beyond wonderful! Everything was fresh and the ingredients, amazing. The Gnocchi and the Duck are not to be missed!! It is a long drive to Quiessence, from where we live, but worth every minute. We will be back!!!"

  • "This restaurant offers the best atmosphere and such a scenic view. It is quiet and perfect for a romantic date. My date proposed to me there and it was perfect!! There were two other couples celebrating their anniversaries that night...it seems like the place to do that. Really I cannot say enough about this place. The food, WOW!"

  • "My wife and I went to Quiessence for our 10 year wedding anniversary. We thoroughly enjoyed the tasting menu and the food/presentation/ambience was just outstanding. We were there for about 2.5 hours and it felt like it didn't last nearly as long given the excellent service and great time we had."

  • "We were here using a $100.00 gift certificate and the experience was beyond our expectations. Our waiter Dave was excellent."

  • "Home grown, to our table! This location has been a found gem for many years and the Quiessence touch has added flavor to our find. The Farm set the bar and Quiessence raised it. The Chef chose all the items for the Tasting Menu and staff was thoroughly familiar with each course. They cheerfully described each course again and again as our interest, surprise and pleasure for each course became evident. When visiting Phoenix we always pleasure our time eating well at Quiessence."

  • "The Farm's Quiessence was an amazing journey through the eyes of the chef. I would absolutely recommend and encourage this restaurant to anyone who enjoys exquisite food, farm to table dining, and great atmosphere."

  • "Intimate dining area. Food presentation was great. Service was above average. The soup was not hot enough. The smoked salmon was over smoked. The flavor of the salmon was lost. Desserts were very good."

  • "the food was amazing and the panacota dessert was delicious! I would recommend to anyone and already have. We will be going back."

  • "This place is quite an experience. The service is amazing and the place is beautiful. There were two weddings and it looked like a lot of fun (for the guests, obviously, the groom and bride will regret that day for sure :) I had the tasting menu. It was good but not memorable, especially because it's not that cheap. There were a mix of good and average dishes. The cheese board, fish and desert were the best. I'll go back for sure and will also try their brunch next door."

  • "We didn't eat outside, wish we had because the indoor dining was bland and strange.... it seemed to take forever between courses and the appetizers, salads and soups were all sub par.... The entrees were pretty good, but definitely not worth the drive from Scottsdale."

  • "After a much delayed flight coming in from San Diego the staff was very accommodating at the end of a long day. I had to call and change my reservations twice. I was meeting a colleague who I had never met for a business dinner. They accomodated me by changing my reservations twice and took great care of my colleague until I arrived past the last seating and ordering. They even allowed us to order dessert at 10:30! Thank You for a wonderful evening and all of your great and accommodating service!"

  • "The food is wonderful. The chef designs creations that are fresh and delicious. The salads were straight from the garden outside. Our main dishes were savory. The lamb was moist and tender. My pasta was light and home made. Our server was knowledgeable and friendly, and he did not rush us, but enhanced our experience w/ his suggestions. The only let down was our dessert. We ordered the chocolate walnut pie and it was dry and the size of the slice was very small. Other than the desserts, this restaurant is lovely, delicious, and romantic. The outside fireplace was very smoky and prohibited us from dining outside. If the fireplace is not lit, then I would suggest the patio."

  • "Ambiance a bit dated and not taking advantage of the beautiful surroundings... outdoor dining fairly ho hum. Service started off with a bang but then completely dwindled off... waited too long for coffee and check... Food was good - presentation better than food itself - although unique menu using ingredients grown on property. There is so much more they can get out of that concept. As it is - just a pretty nice restaurant on a farm..."

  • "Impeccable service in a unique setting featuring local products - what could be better than this? We really enjoyed the quality of the food and the attentive but not stiff service given to us for this last night out in Phoenix. It is an experience to get to the restaurant - would recommend going while the sun is still up as the surroundings for the restaurant must be unique but we didn't see any of it with our late night reservation. The only item we weren't thrilled with was the lemon cake - a little dry and not much citrus flavour. We should have selected the panna cotta instead! We would definitely go to this restaurant again and given the amount of selection of restaurants in and around Phoenix, that's quite a recommendation."

  • "Food was excellent though be prepared for small portions. Our waiter was only fair at best, especially after we heard another waiter describe the menu. Had we had the other waiter we would of given a 5star rating all the way around."

  • "The food was presented to us like fine pieces of artwork. Nice touch! We love that all the vegetables were locally grown. It was such a pleasure to meet the chef, that also gave this place a 5 star. We were so impressed with such a young chef, the creativity & passion he has about all his dishes, and the knowledge he had explaining details how he prepared our food. We'll be back for our next special occasion."

  • "I made a reservation a day ahead for 6:00pm. On arrival they were ready for us. James escorted us to our table. He was our waiter. James was very helpful in helping me choose a wine for the meal. His choice was extant. I had already decided before we arrived that I would like to do the tasting menu. I should of looked closer at the menu as there was several items my wife would not eat and if I had done my job this would not of happened. This was a very enjoyable meal for both my wife and I. We had plenty of time to talk sit around and relax. Everyone at the restaurant was extremely helpful. We set on the patio as it has been warm in Phoenix for the past couple of weeks. I will definitely plan a repeat trip to Quiessence."

  • "The food was good, not great. We dined there Feb 15th, the day after Valentine's Day. We were not advised that the menu was a limited offering prepared especially for the holiday at $79/head ++. Didn't mind spending the money, but it would have been nice to know about the limited menu ahead."

  • "I made reservations for Valentine's Day dinner (in early January - for you folks that wait til later, you may not find anything!) and I have to say this was the best experience I've had. The experience was perfect - romantic, beautiful views, so many sweet picture spots around the restaurant, dim inside, not crowded. I could probably keep going. I highly recommend this restaurant for special occasions."

  • "This restaurant was in an awful neighborhood and very difficult to find. The atmosphere did not match the photos listed on their website. We were seated outside in the rear of the restaurant and the view was a muddy yard and a parking lot. The menu did not include items that we were willing to pay $100 apiece for. We ended up leaving and returning to our hotel. Finding a restaurant on Valentines Day was impossible. Very disappointing. The only positive is that the staff were very friendly. I would NOT recommend this restaurant."

  • "We were curious about the new chef at Quiessence for our annual anniversary dinner. The meal exceeded our expectations. We loved it so much, we went back a couple weeks later to have the other entrees we didn't get on our first visit. The second visit was every bit as good as the first. For my money, Q is the best special occasion restaurant in the Valley."
