A word from Quattro Gatti
A family run Italian restaurant with a chic, rustic atmosphere in a downtown Austin landmark historic 1876 building.
We specialize in traditional cuisine, combining unique flavors while emphasizing authentic preparations.
We feature whole roasted fish, a wide variety of pastas and meats and vegetarian entrees. We also offer desserts made in-house, as well as unique daily specials.
The cozy bar offers classic Italian cocktails and a sizable wine list representing Italy’s diverse regions.
All breads, pizza and panini are made-in house using naturally leavened dough and an ancient fermentation process; this improves digestibility and creates a delicious flavor. Loaves of our delicious bread are available for purchase and are the perfect accompaniment to your own home cooked meals.
Neapolitan pizzas are baked at 1000 degrees in a handcrafted, wood-fired brick oven.
Enjoy peaceful sidewalk cafe dining just steps from the Texas State Capitol.

Went there with 5 friends and enjoyed a memorable meal. My husband and I shared clams in red sauce as an appetizer and tortelini with proscuitto and mushrooms, then I had the Milanese veal chop and my husband had the carpaccio. Don't believe those posters who say the portions are too dainty. The clams could have served the whole table of 6, even so, the sauce was scooped up with bread by everyone. Bread was very good, also, crisp on outside tender on inside. If we had not shared the pasta, I wouldn't have even been able to make a dent in my tender crispy veal chop or the lightly dressed salad that came with it. So delicious. 6 of us shared the tiramisu which was very good but on the light side marscopone-wise.

We were quickly greeted and seated. The waiter told us about the special offers for the night. The restaurant was very quiet because there were only a few people seated. It filled up more as the evening went on. We shared three dishes. The salada mixta was very nice with fresh greens and a very lemony vinaigrette. The dressing was fresh and tart which is how I love it. Also, we had a caprese which was delicious; it could have had a bit more basil on it. Then, we shared a pollo livornese which was really good. The sides of roasted potatoes, kale and sauteed purple cabbage were also nicely prepared. The bread basket was kept filled as were our water glasses.

This was our second visit to Austin and wanted authentic Italian food as an alternative to Tex/Mex or barbecue. We were very happy to have stumbled upon this delightful gem! The food was delicious! Our server, Dayla, was very attentive and made our dining experience special. The owner, Gian Franco, was very warm and friendly. We will make sure to revisit Quattro Gatti the next time we come to Austin. Loved the eggplant rollatini especially.

We have just returned to Austin for the winter, and our first restaurant stop was Quattro Gatti. Had another wonderful meal. I had the carbonnara, which was perfect, again. My wife had brazini (fish) in a puttanesca sauce-delicious! Another great meal.

I travel to Austin 3+ times per year and always try to eat at this restaurant. It has never matched up to the first experience I had 3 years ago. The food quality is great however the portions are ridiculously small. I love their pastas and yet I leave hungry every time. I am Italian and have grown up in an Italian environment. Portions are always adequate for your appetite and never do you leave hungry. Even in Italy the portions are much more satisfying! To pay $25 for a fork full of pasta was a little over the top!

What a treat when you come upon these intimate and lovely restaurants in Austin. Just did a google search and the website just gave a nice feel to the place so we tried it out for a Saturday night out. The food, ambiance and service was very good. We shared our meal (1st and 2nd course). The food was very flavorful and perfect portion for the 2 of us. Everyone was very friendly and what a treat that our waitress just so happens to have lived in Italy (that was a nice added touch). We were watching them make pizza in the fired oven - definitely want to go back and try the pizza some time. Definitely go support this lovely restaurant.

I went there with my family on a Friday night, and was surprised that it wasn't completely crowded. This was a good find, particularly in a city where I don't feel there are many great Italian restaurants. The food was very good - I had the tortellini with prosciutto in a light cream sauce, which was fantastic, and the appetizers were outstanding (bruschetta, mussels, carpaccio). The marinara sauce used on dishes like the ravioli was also exceedingly delicious. The ambiance was also strong - not too loud, plenty of space, nice lighting. Some unusual pictures of famous people and kind of warm in the restaurant, but nothing that would stop me from going again. I highly recommend Quattro Gatti to anyone looking for an Italian feast.

The recommendation to a friend with come with the above stated caveat (in the title). Some of the food was very good, some was just okay. Unfortunately Austin still is lacking in the high quality Italian food department (compared to what is available in Chicago or New England) .

Good food, but way over priced. Great service, but it should have been the place was not busy at all. I did appreciate the ambience...nice décor, easy on the eye. Honestly, though, I will not be returning...there are hundreds of Italian restaurants in Austin that taste a lot better and cost a lot less.

We ordered the margarita pizza and the lasagna. The lasagna was supposedly made fresh in house but it was very consistently seasoned. When I took a bite, it was so salty that I could hardly swallow it, and my husband complained that it was completely bland. It was also unevenly heated - they must have microwaved it. The pizza was also terrible - the sauce was completely tasteless and there was one teeny tiny basil leaf on the entire pizza. How can you mess up the sauce?? I've had better store bought pizza sauce than this place. We left feeling entirely ripped off, and stopped at Uchiko on the way home for a decent snack.

We anticipated a return to Quattro based on the excellent food and service offered during our last visit. The drinks, including glasses of house wine, and the calamari were excellent. I goofed when ordering the anchovy first course because I thought, based on a conversation with the waitress, that it consisted of fresh or frozen whole anchovy fish. It turned out to be canned anchovy on toast' A real downer was the Rabbit ragout which turned out to be a plate of pasta without a smidgen of rabbit. But I'm going back for the fish stew - a proven success.

We always like to try new restaurants around Austin for our date nights especially since they are few and far between with a child. We got our reserved table, waited 5 minutes before even water was offered. No mention of specials for the evening. The portion left us still hungry and the prices were kind of high for the amount and taste of the food. We were finished with dinner and waited another 15 minutes for the check. The place felt cramped. We were ready to go to Central Market for dessert and live music. I'm glad we tried it, but I don't think we will be returning.

We had a large group that ended up not getting to sit together because we were late (our meeting ran long)...not the restaurants fault. We arrived at different times, sat at four different tables (some only had 3 or 4 people at their table). Because we had booked as one group they still added a 20% gratuity. They also issued one check per table and would not split up checks. One waitress would not even help by figuring out the individual totals so that we could pay. (one did) Since we had people from different states, no one person could pick up the entire check. Splitting the check and exchanging money took a long time to figure out and gave the evening a sour note after a long day. Food was good. Sadly, panini is lunch only.

I was excited about trying a new upscale restaurant downtown and convenient for lunch. The food was not bad, but was twice the price that it should be. Here in downtown Austin, if you are going to have a $30.00 lunch, you can do a lot better. The noise level was so high, it was a struggle to hear ourselves, and the atmosphere is not so attractive that it warrants the pricing. I won't go back. I'd rather spend $10 and have a great plate of BBQ in a more calm atmosphere.

I actually do not know anyone who had eaten here, so I was hesitant to book a reservation. However, I am more than happy that I ended up choosing Quattro Gatti. Right from initially seeing the patio of Quattro Gatti, I knew we would have an excellent dinner (and it increasingly became more amazing as the night went on). The interior is beautiful, and the service was outstanding. As far as the food is concerned, Quattro Gatti definitely left my Italian family more than satisfied. It is such a wonderful place!

I've eaten at QG many times over the last few years. The menu and specials change just the right amount. My favorites remain available and the specials provide the right variety. The atmosphere is ideal- not too stuffy or stiff. The food has always been fresh and expertly prepared- no flashy ornaments, but the presentation is well done. This is a place to take clients to make them feel comfortable and relaxed (as an alternative to the typical steakhouse) as well as to take a date or your significant other. QG is my favorite Italian place in Austin- highly recommend it.

We came here for a post graduation celebration on a Thursday night at 8:30 PM. It was pretty quiet; there were three other parties besides us. Full bar and a reasonable wine list (I had a glass of the sangiovese). We started with the caprese salad; I had the sea bass and my other half had the lasagne. Portions were moderate and the food was very well made. Biscotti and a sweet wine for dessert, also good. ~$95 including tip. We will go again.

My wife and I once again had a wonderful dinner at Quattro Gatti. We are frequent patrons and yet again had a wonderful meal. My wife had the sea bass special and I had the pasta carbanarra (sp?). The fish was cooked perfectly, and the pasta had all of its elements perfectly balanced. Those of you that have made carbanarra know that it is easy to go overboard on pancetta. Not this dish: perfect. Tullio, the chef, greeted us after our meal and graciously accepted our plaudits. We are leaving Austin for the summer, so we will miss dining at Quattro Gatti until we return in the fall. Bon appetit!
