A word from Quattro Gatti
A family run Italian restaurant with a chic, rustic atmosphere in a downtown Austin landmark historic 1876 building.
We specialize in traditional cuisine, combining unique flavors while emphasizing authentic preparations.
We feature whole roasted fish, a wide variety of pastas and meats and vegetarian entrees. We also offer desserts made in-house, as well as unique daily specials.
The cozy bar offers classic Italian cocktails and a sizable wine list representing Italy’s diverse regions.
All breads, pizza and panini are made-in house using naturally leavened dough and an ancient fermentation process; this improves digestibility and creates a delicious flavor. Loaves of our delicious bread are available for purchase and are the perfect accompaniment to your own home cooked meals.
Neapolitan pizzas are baked at 1000 degrees in a handcrafted, wood-fired brick oven.
Enjoy peaceful sidewalk cafe dining just steps from the Texas State Capitol.

  • "Their hand made pasta continues to be some of the very best in town."

  • "The recommendation to a friend with come with the above stated caveat (in the title). Some of the food was very good, some was just okay. Unfortunately Austin still is lacking in the high quality Italian food department (compared to what is available in Chicago or New England) ."

  • "Love the ambiance, quality food, nice place for a date or a friendly gathering"

  • "The food is delicious and service is excellent. Love to take my wife there on date night!"

  • "Good food, but way over priced. Great service, but it should have been the place was not busy at all. I did appreciate the ambience...nice décor, easy on the eye. Honestly, though, I will not be returning...there are hundreds of Italian restaurants in Austin that taste a lot better and cost a lot less."

  • "I went to QG with a friend the other night and we dined al fresco. I love eating outside and it was fun to sit on the sidewalk and watch the passers-by. We had many courses. First we started out with the most delicious pizza I've had since being in Italy! It was fresh Neopolitan goodness-spongey, thin crust covered in fresh tomato sauce, mozzarella, and basil. The owner recommended a wonderful bottle of red wine (wish I could remember what it was!) to accompany the veal chops. We also shared a salad with the meal-very fresh. I will be back sooner than later!!"

  • "Good food and pretty good selection of Italian wines all at reasonable prices. Ideal for a casual family dinner."

  • "We ordered the margarita pizza and the lasagna. The lasagna was supposedly made fresh in house but it was very consistently seasoned. When I took a bite, it was so salty that I could hardly swallow it, and my husband complained that it was completely bland. It was also unevenly heated - they must have microwaved it. The pizza was also terrible - the sauce was completely tasteless and there was one teeny tiny basil leaf on the entire pizza. How can you mess up the sauce?? I've had better store bought pizza sauce than this place. We left feeling entirely ripped off, and stopped at Uchiko on the way home for a decent snack."

  • "This was our second visit to Quattro Gatti -- 6 of us for our anniversary dinner. We enjoyed both the food and the wine. I think it's a little pricey for an every day dinner event, but I'm sure we will be back again."

  • "We anticipated a return to Quattro based on the excellent food and service offered during our last visit. The drinks, including glasses of house wine, and the calamari were excellent. I goofed when ordering the anchovy first course because I thought, based on a conversation with the waitress, that it consisted of fresh or frozen whole anchovy fish. It turned out to be canned anchovy on toast' A real downer was the Rabbit ragout which turned out to be a plate of pasta without a smidgen of rabbit. But I'm going back for the fish stew - a proven success."

  • "We always like to try new restaurants around Austin for our date nights especially since they are few and far between with a child. We got our reserved table, waited 5 minutes before even water was offered. No mention of specials for the evening. The portion left us still hungry and the prices were kind of high for the amount and taste of the food. We were finished with dinner and waited another 15 minutes for the check. The place felt cramped. We were ready to go to Central Market for dessert and live music. I'm glad we tried it, but I don't think we will be returning."

  • "Excellent restaurant. Service a little weak. The waitress did nit show us the list of specials and we had to request the owner for some wine suggestions"

  • "We had a large group that ended up not getting to sit together because we were late (our meeting ran long)...not the restaurants fault. We arrived at different times, sat at four different tables (some only had 3 or 4 people at their table). Because we had booked as one group they still added a 20% gratuity. They also issued one check per table and would not split up checks. One waitress would not even help by figuring out the individual totals so that we could pay. (one did) Since we had people from different states, no one person could pick up the entire check. Splitting the check and exchanging money took a long time to figure out and gave the evening a sour note after a long day. Food was good. Sadly, panini is lunch only."

  • "unfriendly and poorly timed service, food was either too salty or not interesting. Way too over priced for the quality of the food and service. I do not recommend this restaurant."

  • "I was excited about trying a new upscale restaurant downtown and convenient for lunch. The food was not bad, but was twice the price that it should be. Here in downtown Austin, if you are going to have a $30.00 lunch, you can do a lot better. The noise level was so high, it was a struggle to hear ourselves, and the atmosphere is not so attractive that it warrants the pricing. I won't go back. I'd rather spend $10 and have a great plate of BBQ in a more calm atmosphere."

  • "It's so nice to find a place with New York-style Italian food down here in Texas. Quattro Gatti reminds me so much of home. I was a regular here when I lived in Austin some years back and now make a special effort to eat here whenever I'm back in town. "
    Dined on 6/6/2014
  • "A varied menu and, for Austin some unusual selections such as artichoke and fish stew. The latter was tasty and full of sea food. We will definitely go back."

  • "Beautiful atmosphere light flavorful food great wine delicious dessert. A little on the pricey side of the price range indicated by yelp but we'll worth it. "

  • "I actually do not know anyone who had eaten here, so I was hesitant to book a reservation. However, I am more than happy that I ended up choosing Quattro Gatti. Right from initially seeing the patio of Quattro Gatti, I knew we would have an excellent dinner (and it increasingly became more amazing as the night went on). The interior is beautiful, and the service was outstanding. As far as the food is concerned, Quattro Gatti definitely left my Italian family more than satisfied. It is such a wonderful place!"

  • "very friendly staff and the owner is usually there and happy to be involved with your table. The food is solid but not exceptional. The pasta dishes were a little bit overcooked ( a like my pasta al dente ) but otherwise the sauce was very flavorful. IF your downtown worth the stop - but I wouldn't drive out of my way to make this my destination"

  • "I've eaten at QG many times over the last few years. The menu and specials change just the right amount. My favorites remain available and the specials provide the right variety. The atmosphere is ideal- not too stuffy or stiff. The food has always been fresh and expertly prepared- no flashy ornaments, but the presentation is well done. This is a place to take clients to make them feel comfortable and relaxed (as an alternative to the typical steakhouse) as well as to take a date or your significant other. QG is my favorite Italian place in Austin- highly recommend it."

  • "Group of 4 ate dinner before the ballet. Loved the food and the place. Service was excellent, and the food and the specials were varied, interesting, and quite tasty. We will come here again."

  • "We came here for a post graduation celebration on a Thursday night at 8:30 PM. It was pretty quiet; there were three other parties besides us. Full bar and a reasonable wine list (I had a glass of the sangiovese). We started with the caprese salad; I had the sea bass and my other half had the lasagne. Portions were moderate and the food was very well made. Biscotti and a sweet wine for dessert, also good. ~$95 including tip. We will go again."

  • "My wife and I both had the Fettucine Bolognese for dinner and the Tiramasu for dessert. The food was excellent. We were very pleased with the food and service."

  • "I really didn't need a reservation as we were the only one in the restaurant. The service was good and the staff friendly but the poor quality of the ingredients was why I wouldn't recommend it. It was okay but not great"

  • "My wife and I once again had a wonderful dinner at Quattro Gatti. We are frequent patrons and yet again had a wonderful meal. My wife had the sea bass special and I had the pasta carbanarra (sp?). The fish was cooked perfectly, and the pasta had all of its elements perfectly balanced. Those of you that have made carbanarra know that it is easy to go overboard on pancetta. Not this dish: perfect. Tullio, the chef, greeted us after our meal and graciously accepted our plaudits. We are leaving Austin for the summer, so we will miss dining at Quattro Gatti until we return in the fall. Bon appetit!"

  • "John Franco brings it from New York to Austin. From his homemade bread to the eggplant parmesan to the wine list, you can see he learned well from his parents and the restaurant they still maintain on the upper eastside in NYC."
    Dined on 3/21/2014
  • "The spaghetti carbonara was the best I have ever had. Not heavy but so flavorful. The pork dish was a little bland and tough but the Salad and Tiramisu more than made up for it. The service was excellent and the atmosphere was great for conversation. I will definetly be back."

  • "I've eaten at Quattro Gatti several times and this was the very best yet. It was during the South By Southwest Festival, so the restaurant wasn't as crowded as it normally is (people who like to come to downtown Austin for dinner will usually stay away during times when streets are closed, traffic is awful, etc.). I had one of the specials: a flat egg noodle in a gorganzola cheese sauce, sprinkled with walnuts. Unbelievable. The owner suggested a bottle of Italian wine made from grapes grown on soil, lava, etc. from Mt Vesuvius eruptions. Delicious. The meal was so good I ordered another one to go, to have later in the week!"

  • "I have been to Quattro Gatti many times, and the updated website makes it very easy to get a table reserved. The food is fantastic - each dish is made special for you and overall the diversity and fresh ingredients make the experience wonderful. I'd highly recommend for a romantic dinner for 2 or a group of 6 or more for a great time either way. You can sit up by the front windows and feel like you have a small part of the restaurant to yourself for a romantic date or sit in the back by the kitchen and have a great 'family style' meal with a group of friends. One of my favorite spots in Austin, would recommend and I will continue to go here."

  • "I recently had the pleasure of dinning at Quattro Gatti with a large group for a birthday. Both the staff and owner took great steps to ensure that our experience was nothing short of excellent. The food, service, and atmosphere were outstanding from start to finish."

  • "These comments apply only to lunch as I haven't been to dinner there. It a great place to go for lunch they never rush you the wait staff is knowledgeable about the food and the wine and last but not least the food is very good. If they have the rabbit on the menu you need to order. I need to try dinner there soon."

  • "We were in town for the marathon. The food was good, but the service was awful. Our server took our order, delivered drinks & the appetizer. That's the last time she spoke to us. Other servers brought entrees, filled water & cleared plates. Our server was still there. We waited for our check. Finally my son and I left. My husband sat for 15 minutes. Finally the manager approached and asked, "Is there anything else we can get for you?" He said this in rude tone like we were hogging a table. My husband said "Yes, the check!" The manager said "Right away!" No apology for the wait, rudeness or being ignored. Another server brought the check. We go to Austin frequently & although we thought the food was really good, we will never eat here again!"
