A word from Quatrefoil
Chefs Fraser Macfarlane and Georgina Mitropoulos opened Quatrefoil Restaurant in May, 2010. Since then, the restaurant has been named among the top 10 best new Canadian restaurants of 2010 by enRoute Magazine, and among the top 10 best new restaurants of 2011 in Toronto by Toronto Life magazine. Quatrefoil Restaurant is also featured as a prime dining destination in the 2011 edition of Where to Eat in Canada. Located in the quaint community of Dundas, Ontario, the restaurant offers contemporary French cuisine in a charming heritage home turned modern eatery. Macfarlane and Mitropoulos, a husband-and-wife team, met in the kitchen of Toronto's Scaramouche Restaurant, before heading to Europe to seek out new food styles and experiences. Together, the pair has cooked in some of the best Michelin-starred restaurants in Europe, training under notable chefs such as Marco Pierre White, Gordon Ramsay and Gary Hollihead.Continued

  • "On Friday we went to Quatrefoil for my wife's birthday. We were expecting a great dinner as we had been there before and why drive from Georgetown to Dundas if it was not going to be special. They REALLY OUT DID THEMSELVES, and yes the caps were necessary. They are now doing a 5 course tasting menu on the weekend. It sounded really great so we both went for it. I asked the server whether they could do a wine pairing with the meal and he said yes. The amuse bouche was a small deviled quail egg with a crispy parmesan dust. Then we went to a warm white asparagus salad with garlic prosciutto. Then fried salmon, with a crisp skin that you have to eat, it made the dish. Then an ash covered veal medallion. No more room, so JUST COME HERE!"

The meat was cooked to perfection and the sauces and spices were complex and complimentary. The Shiraz tasted so good on its own and with the beef. The champagne was a romantic finish the celebration."

  • "Bon appetit! A restaurant reminiscent of those found in Paris, France. Beautiful restored home in a neighborhood (so very quiet). Maitre D very attentive to us on arrival. Professional waiter. Every dish from appetizer to dessert was so tasty! Commented to my wife that among the hundreds of restaurants we have dined at over the past 10 years, this restaurant ranks in the top 3!!! Four perfect meals nestled within a tranquil valley full of trees to dapple the setting sun. The food was made and served by people who love what they do. Who could possibly ask for anything more?"

  • "My wife and I have been to Quatrefoil many times for special occasions. The food and staff never disappoint. Go hungry, you'll want to splurge on a full-course meal. The soup will never disappoint, even if the ingredients don't sound like a personal favorite. The special always simply a work of art. The cheese platter from Mickey's is a must to cap a wonderful evening."

As we are gluten intolerant it is beyond wonderful that we can go there and know not only that we are getting top quality food, done to perfection, but that they really don't even use flour in many of their dishes (a sign of a GREAT chef and restaurant in my opinion) and most of their menu items are available to us, and if not they are more than happy to make substitutions! "

  • "We have been several times to Quatrefoil and always enjoyed it. This time the weather was such that we were able to enjoy cocktails outdoors on the delightful patio. Our meal was delicious and service good..... although my still half full G and T was not brought to our table from outside when we were told our table was ready. When i asked another was brought but it was too late - we were ready for wine at that point. I did respond when asked if this was a specal occasion and i said it was our anniversary.... however no note was made of this. We will return. It is a pleasant venue and food is a high calibre."

Nice to see that the wine list has expanded a bit in the past couple of years, but I would say that the only disappointing thing is that improved wine list has come with a remarkable mark-up on some listings. We've now elected to bring our own wine an pay the (still fair at $30) corkage fee."

  • "First time at this gem of a restaurant, we will definitely be back as there was too many interesting items on the lunch menu to try. We went with the prix fix but both of us had the meat loaf, yes, meat loaf in a fine-dining French outfit. Hmmm? Outstanding, who would have thought they would serve this. A rainy day, and meat loaf is, after all, comfort food. Both having the same thing though limited our chance of trying other dishes (yes, we share off of each others plate on occasion). Have to go back to this place, maybe dinner next time. By the way, the setting, a house between the downtown of Dundas and a residential neighbourhood is quite relaxing. Appeared to be a nice patio outside for better weather."

  • "It is simple. Quatrefoil is simply one of the best restaurants you will find in Southern Ontario if not in Canada. I am highly mobile and have tried many of the finest, but there is just something about the total package here. The fact that is in Dundas is our luck and we book every chance we get. The quality, presentation, and the portion size (not too much!) offered is perfect to our liking. The staff are well trained friendly, attentive but not too much so, and accommodating to our tastes and needs. Highly recommend this restaurant!"

  • "I live in CA and I have dined at the best San Francisco has to offer, and I found Quatrefoil every bit as good. The food was adventurous without being pretentious and the service was spot on. The ambiance was the surprise though as we had never been to the restaurant: all in shades of white with white banquettes but with a lovely soft light that made it a beautiful room. Kudos to manager Rueben and waiter Kyle! Will definitely be back my next trip up from CA."

  • "Quatrefoil lives up to its reputation of being rated one of the best restaurants! We had the pleasure of dining there this past Saturday evening for my birthday! We were guided upstairs to a wonderfully decorated room where we spent the next two hours enjoying our dining experience. An experience it was,not a typical restaurant. From our server,who was a trained sommelier to our chocolates at the end of our meal we found Quatrefoil to be professional yet friendly,warm and inviting and the food was truly amazing. The extra touches made our night. We will be back for lunch outside and for more special occasions. We have already told 3 friends of our visit to this fantastic place."

  • "Went out for dinner with my son and my mom to Quatrefoil after reading glowing reviews about this "little gem" of a restaurant. I have to say that while the food was good it was not great. As for the food, - my son's appetizer was for him a dissapointment. He had the onion soup with egg in the centre? He described it as nothing special ..."I only just taste onion". My gnocci was very good. The mains were good - my venison tenderloin was tender but again what was missing was that "wow...what flavour" factor- something that I was hoping for. The brussel sprouts were undercooked and the remaining accompaniments were lacking flavour. It was an experience that was a bit of a let down."
