A word from Quartino
Quartino, an urban Italian restaurant and wine bar, is the creation of Hugo Ralli, Steve Lombardo (owners of Gibsons Bar & Steakhouse, Hugo’s Frog Bar & Fish House, LUXBAR) and Exec Chef / Partner John Coletta. Quartino combines the best of Italy’s osteria and enoteca to offer an authentic everyday Italian food and wine experience. “Where wine is cheaper than water” Throughout Europe, in bistro after osteria after enoteca, fresh local wines of high quality and unique characteristics are priced as a less expensive alternative to bottled water. Reservation requests for patio seating are not accepted. Patio seating is first come, first serve. Continued

  • "Busy restaurant that is full of energy and noise. Great for groups that love to share great food. Highly recommend you leave room for the nutella pannini for dessert, it is amazing."

  • "This is perfect for people who DO NOT want to over eat and want to try a variety of food. The portions are great, and all the food is fresh. The pasta is fresh as well. The wine list is long and great and the servers know the menu and wine list well. The only negative is you have to book a table far in advance or you will have to wait a LONG TIME, especially with a big group on a weekend night."

  • "It's my first stop for dinner whenever I am in Chicago!"

  • "A recent visit to Quartino was terrific. We love the small plate menu because you can try lots of different items. There is a $25 tasting sampler that is not to be missed. It's like a giant antipasto; you get to choose 2 italian menats (all made in house), 2 cheeses, 3 side salads like eggplant caponata (yum), marinated veggies, roasted peppers, baby artichokes, etc. The homemade bread is delicious. A great wine list; you can order 1/4 carafe, 1/2 carafe, or full carafe or bottle (not sure). Well priced and diversified for wine lovers. The 1/2 carafe was plenty for the two of us. If you are still hungry, you can order from the variety of small plates or pizzas. Get the veal meatball slider; yum. Don't miss this restaurant!"

  • "Good pasta and pizza, but expected something better"

  • "We went for dinner on a Sunday night and the place was jam packed. Very energetic and loud. The food was very good."

  • "However they didn't charge for the pizza but the person missing the pizza had not ordered anything else. He just watched us eat and then said he wasn't hungry once the pizza arrived. The place had great wine and ambiance. Overall it was a good experience."

  • "The restaurant was amazing. The meals are designed to share which I like because you get a good variety! We sat outside right on the street which actually wasn't too loud and made for good people watching. Great experience. Definitely recommend- especially the desserts!"

  • "Wanted to sit outside, was told to reservations were only for indoor dining areas. Reluctantly sat inside. Seated at a tiny table across from a loud family playing games at their table all night (to be clear, I have a kid; would never do that at a restaurant in consideration of other diners). All four of our small plates came about 5 minutes after we ordered, so we had no time to relax and our table was crammed. Food was delicious; manager did come over and ask if he should take away any of the plates and remake them later. Didn't want to waste food so we just dealt with it. Great food, nice staff; just hated the loudness and got the impression that they were just trying to get tables in and move them out as fast as possible."

  • "Great outdoor dining spot. Retractable awnings allow rain or shine dining. Small sharing plates ideal for light eaters and people who love to try more variety."

  • "Visited Quartino due to great online reviews. Loved the wide choice of delicious food options so much that we returned for a second meal before leaving Chicago. Favorites were the meatballs, pappardelle and sautéed spinach. The wait staff was attentive and knowledgeable. Don't miss the delicious donuts with honey and chocolate dipping sauces. Sit close to your sweetie so you can talk in this loud venue. Quartino, we will miss you!"

  • "Even though we had a reservation we were stuck at a table stuck between a large (8ppl at least) table and a door/walkway...so constant traffic and bumped elbows. The place just felt so crowded and noisy, tables too close together. There is so much "stuff" on the small tables that your plate barely fits on it. Food was ok, nothing to write home about. Water glasses had to be replaced (not clean and FULL of fingerprints all over), when mentioned, waiter said it was the city "hard water".... uhmm all of the Chicago area has hard water, my glasses don't look like that at home! The odd "family style" way they serve your food is kinda weird, especially if you don't want to share (or don't care for) what each person has ordered."

  • "We had a great time. The service is very hood. Some of the food needed a bit mote seasoning. The steamed clams are GREAT as were the Zeppoli and dark chocolate (light ad a feather)!"

  • "We had a wonderful experience at Quartino on Friday night. Our waiter was helpful and attentive, knowing how to anticipate our needs. We ordered two appetizers and two entrees, which was more food the an we anticipated, so he took the initiative to halve our entree orders. We left full but not stuffed. We enjoyed the wine selections too. Other reviewers mention the noise level. They are correct. Perhaps outside eating, both at street and upper balcony levels, may be quieter. We would return with family and friends."

  • "Another great meal at Quartino on State Street downtown Chicago. Excellent food, great ambience, lots of energy. Staff is friendly, professional, knowledgeable. We eat there at least once every time in town. Two levels of dining space coupled with outdoor seating make this a great Italian destination. Never disappointed with our dining experience. Kudos to chef and staff for another wonderful experience!"

  • "The Italian small plate idea really works here. Great way to sample a lot of good food. It is obviously a well loved Chicago restaurant and for good reason."

  • "Good food and small plate sharing worked out great with our group of 6. Also had a nice spot outside that had a good view but not too much noise"

  • "Our waiter was outstanding. Great Tappas experiance. The cheese fondue was really good. My wife and I went there for our anniversary dinner and we were greeted by a friendly wait staff a nice ambiance and enjoyed good food. What more can I ask for."

  • "Food and service excellent and the price is great. It is definitely a hot spot and everyone is attentive and friendly. The only negative is that the noise was excessive and actually was a little bit harsh on the ears. Yes, it was a Saturday night and there were numerous large groups which is ok except that we couldn't hear each other across the table and we did have to speak loudly in order to converse. This is no exaggeration. I think the kitchen and staff did a wonderful job managing so many diners."

  • "Fantastic food!! Fresh, affordable, and each bite was delish!! Our wait staff was kind and friendly and help us navigate the menu as it was our first time at Quartino. Highly recommend the prosciutto wrapped dates, the braised pork shank, and the Sample of cheeses and salamis."

  • "This is one very busy, crowded popular spot. My only problem with our visit was the table we sat at. It is really not very condusive to the tapas concept of shared plates. The table was so small there was no space to have more than 1 dish at a time. Would have encouraged more sharing if more space was available. Also, if you do not enjoy noisy crowds, steer clear."

  • "Went on Saturday night...after switching tables inside twice, we moved outside and had a fabulous evening. Food was delicious and our server couldn't have been better. Biggest complaint is that it is EXTREMELY LOUD inside. I was literally shouting at my companions which is why we moved. This is not a place to go if you want to have dinner conversation at a normal tone. BUT, the food was simply wonderful....we had four different pastas and each one was better than the next. Loved the smaller portions which are great for sharing and tasting. Will definately return, but only will sit outside!"

  • "We went for a family meal. It was my college age kids first experience at a "family style" place. We loved it. Lots to taste and satisfy. The menu was excellent, including the wine list. I thought the food was great- very Italian. One positive exception was the chocolate fondue dessert- excellent in a good way. All in all, it was very affordable too. My only complaint would be the noise. It was hard to hear anyone unless they were next to you. As I get older, "loud" is not needed to be "good""

  • "We come to Chicago a couple of times a year and we try to get to Quartino every time. I've recommended it to many friends who visit from Ohio and they've all loved it! The food is just exceptional and the ambience is the best! Well managed and excellient service."

  • "I love Quartino. It is my go-to now for great food, awesome wine list, and a lively atmosphere. Too noisy for first dates. Love it for a small group where you can just lean in and talk talk talk while you mangia mangia mangia. My group of 4 had the goats milk ricotta which is absolutely delectable, the veal meatballs, the pappardelle al sugo, the eggplant parm, and the dates wrapped in pancetta. The sugo took a while to arrive but that was OK because we had plenty of other things to choose from and it was well worth the wait. Our waiter was helpful with wine selections. All the way around Quartino is a great food and wine experience. The noise level is significant though - so if that's not your thing, go early or you will be unhappy."

  • "We asked to sit outside and only had to wait 10-15 minutes for a table. The outside patio is on a busy street so there's lots of people watching:)"

  • "First time at Quartino or eating Italian in Chicago. Place was lively at 8:30 on a Sunday night, but not so loud that you couldn't hear the others at your table. Reasonably priced wine list, good selection in apps, salads, and entrees. 3 of us split the olive assortment, quattro formaggi pizza, gnocchi, scarola e fagioli and bolognese, plus a bottle of Nero d'Avola. All told, it was only $90 + tip and we all left without being hungry. Will definitely be back the next time I visit Chicago."

  • "We had a wonderful time at Quartino's as usual. The food was delicious and the server was knowledgeable and very friendly. Quartino's is always great for groups, and a great place to take out of towners!"

  • "When they say their portions are "family style" and meant to be shared, make sure your family has no more than 2 people in it. The food was good, but not great. Nothing memorable except the poorly made gnocchi. Tables are meant for two people, but they seat four at them, so there is barely room for your plates. The restaurant was WAY too loud, and we could not even hear anyone in our party speaking. Our server couldn't even get our order right and claimed he "didn't hear us." Overall, the experience was underwhelming and a bit stressful. There are FAR better Italian restaurants all over town; I recommend going to one of those."
