A word from Quartino
Quartino, an urban Italian restaurant and wine bar, is the creation of Hugo Ralli, Steve Lombardo (owners of Gibsons Bar & Steakhouse, Hugo’s Frog Bar & Fish House, LUXBAR) and Exec Chef / Partner John Coletta. Quartino combines the best of Italy’s osteria and enoteca to offer an authentic everyday Italian food and wine experience. “Where wine is cheaper than water” Throughout Europe, in bistro after osteria after enoteca, fresh local wines of high quality and unique characteristics are priced as a less expensive alternative to bottled water. Reservation requests for patio seating are not accepted. Patio seating is first come, first serve. Continued

  • "We ordered the veal slider an minestrone to start and they were both fantastic. The pizza was also quite good."

  • "We ate dinner there for a bachelorette party and had an outstanding experience. The service was exceptional and the servers made us feel at home. The food was really good and quite quick coming out."

  • "Once again we left Quartino with smiles on our faces. From the great menu of traditional Italian dishes to the service provided by Steven (we always request to be seated in his area) Quartino is a can't miss. Pappardelle is the best. Wines are abundant and varied. Zeppolis to finish the meal were over the top. Tried the Italian version of Banana's Foster without the alcohol and it was unreal. You might get a seat if you walk in around the dinner hour, but make reservations if you don't like waiting around. Can't miss restaurant in downtown at 626 State Street. Say hi to Steven if you are lucky enough to be seated in his area. Nom, nom, nom..."

  • "Great food and service! Lots to choose from and a lot of fun. A little loud if your looking for a quiet date night. I will definitely be back with the family."

  • "I don't usually go for the small plate thing, but Quartino did a great job with the portions and pricing. If you went for the lunch special it would be one of the cheapest things around, for what I consider to be high class dining."

  • "...not great. Service was pleasant, food overall was well-prepared from quality ingredients and wine list offered many decent options at fair prices. However, this time around was nowhere near as good as my first visit on a weeknight a month ago. Flaws were especially apparent after an exquisite lunch at Eataly earlier that day: too loud (sound bouncing off tile walls make conversation nearly impossible), inconsistent seasoning (everything needed salt, many completely lacked punch), loud and bro-ish crowd, iffy value overall. Not sure I would go back."

  • "The ability to order mini dishes and casually eat throughout the stay is wonderful. We began with the sampler with duck, roasted red peppers, and beets. The other courses for the evening just added to the experience with wonderful flavors of fish, seafood and vegetables."

  • "Had a engagement celebration and a baby shower celebration there over a year ago and have returned several times since then. We went for an early dinner and Steven our waiter made our dinner selections from wine through dessert. We told him what we enjoyed, food allergies and he did an outstanding job..duck sausage, appetizer platter, broccoli gnocchi, veal sliders, short ribs, calamari +++. Loved the tiramisu and the lemon cake/ice cream dessert too!"

  • "The food is pretty good. They offer a plate sharing philosophy, though we usually just order individually. They have a nice selection of pastas, pizzas, entrees and salads. It's a friendly, loud and boisterous place. It's open late and usually a bit too loud for my taste for a late dinner, if you want to have a conversation. All in all, I always go back--usually lunch, for the garlic bread, tomato salad, sliders and salmon dishes."

  • "Quartino: tasty and money well spent - Had dates wrapped in pancetta and a goat milk ricotta for appetizers. Couldn't get enough of the dates. Would probably skip the goat milk ricotta next time as it didn't have much flavor as I hoped for. - Had ravioli, eggplant parmigiana, and beef short ribs as shared plates. All 3 of these dishes were excellent. - Downstairs is pretty loud, the upstairs has less seating and good views of State St. Didn't sit on the patio, but it looks very nice. - Attentive server, food was fast but didn't feel rushed. We were in and out in an hour on a busy Thursday night."

  • "Recent lunch for four adults (Thurs early-afternoon, 28 August 2014) including couple visiting from East Coast, outdoor seating (covered portico): wonderful experience shared by all. To wit, food/menu was excellent (very fresh/interesting/savory/healthily-appealing), inclusive for salads, pizzas, and appetizers; additionally, excellent post-meal dessert and specialty coffees. Waitress was especially pleasant, attentive, and helpful (food/wine selections, etc). In sum, HIGHLY RECOMMENDED."

  • "Did I say loud?! Very, very noisy and tables close together. Selection of small plates was good, best was the veal. Our waiter was helpful and available."

  • "Great Italian food and wonderful service. We enjoyed both a late lunch and the next day dinner at this restaurant. We were pleased with the service and the food very much. Definitely a culinary highlight of our trip to Chicago. I cannot recommend enough. Every dish was delicious. Waiter was helpful and friendly. Wonderful atmosphere though a bit dark and was noisy."

  • "I had a group of 12 here for dinner and we were all extremely satisfied. Food was delicious and just enough to fill us up and not leave us stuffed or with a bunch of leftovers. At one point, we were in the center of a lot of foot traffic and were bumped into a couple times. Because of this minor inconvenience, they gave us 4 free desserts to pass around the table. Our waiter was great, although I don't remember his name (curly handlebar mustache). I would definitely come back here again with a large group!"

  • "Quartino is a personal favorite. It'sits delicious, reasonably priced, a selection for every taste, and the service is always spot on. I took my parents for lunch. We sat outside. Our server, Derek, was friendly and attentive. My parents were very impressed and I was very happy."

  • "We choose to just have a selection of cheese, meat and a pizza bianco and a delicious bottle of wine. The wine was very affordable. It was all delicious. Would have liked to try their risotto. Our waitress was knowledgeable and helpful. The only drawback was it was really loud in the restaurant, but it was saturday and there were lots of people there. It was a cool old building and I would definitely go back and try other menu items"

  • "Great food, great service, awesome atmosphere! A little loud, but still a great overall dining experience!"

  • "But be aware, very loud. If you want to talk, need to be outside. Waiter was very good, wait staff, very attentive. Food was good, some of course, more interesting than other food, but overall a good experience."

  • "Which is too bad because the food was good but my small party of 4 was seated at a very small table and we still could not hear one another. In fact, we couldn't wait to get out of the place. We walked down the street for dessert."

  • "Had a very pleasant dinner, atmosphere is a little loud but good size portions, easy to share, not too expensive"

  • "Our waitress was so sweet. The petite brunette adapted some items for our kids. When a mistake occurred, she owned up to it and didn't pass the blame. She was excellent! Even our kids took money from their own pockets to tip her."

  • "Visited this place on a recommendation from a friend. Italian small plates - what a great idea! The server was very helpful to me, a lone diner, about the size of items."

  • "Restaurant has a vintage feel and the food was pretty good. Our cab driver said this was a "touristy" type place and it did seem that way. I probably would try another Italian restaurant when I go back to Chicago, but I still enjoyed the ambiance."

  • "don't think I'd return. the food was not as good as i thought it would be. just mediocre at best. the portion was good, though. also, good price."

  • "Risotto was excellent as was the penne vodka. Skip the eggplant parm! The service was great, never felt rushed! Rob, the bartender, was friendly and helpful! If you do not like LOUD places, I would not recommend coming for dinner, but lunch is quieter. As for the portion size- larger than expected. You could easily over order. Reasonably priced. Will go back- no doubt!"

  • "We visit Chicago once a year, and always return to Quartino for a late night dinner. The location is great, the food wonderfully prepared, and the service attentive , knowledgeable and friendly. And all for a great price - what's not to like about that. Sit outside or in the porch if you can - the sound level inside can be elevated at times."

  • "We had a big group for a bachelorette party. Our table wasn't quite ready when we arrived, so the manager brought us up to the bar, where we got free bottles of wine while we waited for our table! After about 5 minutes, our table was ready. We had amazing service, a really fun server, and delicious food. To end our fabulous meal, the server brought the bachelorette a special dessert (I don't want to be too graphic, but it involved a banana and some ice cream balls) that made everyone at the party laugh and take pictures. We had a great time, and we are looking forward to our next visit!"

  • "I was taken here by a friend of mine who lived in Chicago years ago but had forgotten the name. When our wait at the purple pig was 2 1/2 hours I got on open table and got a reservation at Quartino 30 min later for the 4 in my party. We are all foodies and live great wine as well. We were NOT disappointed. We found a great wine for $21!!! Yes, I swear (and we love great and often expensive wine)! I still haven't been to the purple pig but our dinner couldn't have been better anywhere else. Will definitely go back every time I'm in Chicago!"

  • "I am always more and more impressed when we eat at Quartino. The food is by far the best Italian fare we have had across the country. The service is incredible and it all around never disappoints."

  • "My wife & I came in for an early anniversary celebration and had a great time. The food was good as was the service. My only complaint would be how loud it was. The restaurant was completely full, with many group tables celebrating different occasions and this made it tough to have a conversation at times. I still recommend this restaurant, the location is prime, but just be prepared for a lot of background noise during peak hours, especially on a Saturday."
    Dined on 8/16/2014
  • "The food is really great but the accoustics are horrible. You must shout to talk to the people at your table, but, of course, everybody else in the restaurant must shout too so the noise increases. I only go here when someone else insists because I cannot enjoy my time with friends when I cannot have a nice conversation without shouting."

  • "This restaurant was recommended by a author of several books related to food. When I made the reservation I was told we could have outdoor seating. Upon arrival that was not the case. With a reservation you are guaranteed a table, outdoors however is on a first come basis. The noise level inside was so loud, my party of 3 could not hear a word of conversation we tried to have. Off the charts loud!"

  • "Great vibe, loved Italian in small plates where you are able to try a lot of things. Service was fantastic. If you are looking for a quiet romatic atmosphere, go elsewhere. It's quite noisy and crowded. Our family loved it."

  • "Great experience, fun staff and good food. It is tapas style dining that, in my opinion, serves itself for larger groups; 4-6 would be good."

  • "The food was delicious and the waitstaff was knowledgeable and available (there when we needed them, not when we didn't). We had our choice of seating inside or outside which is always nice. My client and I left with the feeling of 'we should definitely go there more often'! I know from experience Quartino is an excellent place for private parties as well. We held a client lunch there this summer in their upstairs party room and the food was terrific; the room was quiet/away from the bustle of the other patrons --it was easy for a party of 20 to hear each other well enough at one long table."

  • "Our group of four had 9:30pm reservations for dinner, thinking we would have no problem sitting outside. All of the outdoor seats were taken so we sat inside. It was rather loud considering maybe half the room was filled. Our server was cheery and attentive. This is a great place to share plates. We started with calamari which was decent, then we shared two pizzas (Quattro Stagioni and Margherita) and two pastas (Penne alla Vodka and Rigatoni). The pizzas were delicious as were the pastas. Our meal was great, but next time we will wait for an outside table as the ambiance is a little nicer."
