"Its fairytale pretty indoor/outdoor dining room among the vineyards is aptly named Old Vines Patio. Dinner here as the sun sets over the lake is a treat for the eyes and the palate." The New York Times (October 2006) - "Beyond our tables, the panorama of the lakefront, watercraft wake lines and row upon row of grapevines, with mountains in the distance, was mesmerizing." Wine Spectator (July 2004)- "One of the four best places to dine in the Okanagan."Continued

  • "Old Vines was recommended to me by my brother, who used to run a wine tour company in the Okanagan. The view from the restaurant is fantastic, great sight lines over the vineyard to Okanagan lake and the mountains behind. The food was fantastic; I ordered the arugula salad, arctic char (which was the feature) and the salted caramel budino and my hubby had the beef carpaccio and tartare, cornish game hen, then a trio of cheeses. Each dish was cooked to perfection and perfectly spiced. We ordered the suggested wine pairings and they were spot on. The service was fantastic as well, our waitress was very attentive and knowledgeable. Would definitely recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for a good meal and a great view."

  • "Beautiful view from patio seat, tasty food, charming service."

  • "Fantastic lakeside/vineyard setting. Menu/food has some flourishes but also some dissapointments. Expected some fresh halibut, salmon on a BC lunch menu."

  • "The food was good but not over the top, except for the dessert. The bouillabaise was disappointing as the amount of seafood was small snd the halibut was not a chunk of fish but a circle which looked more like tofu. The dessert however was fantastic (salted caramel bundino)."

  • "We were staying in Kelowna and planned to eat out once-our choice was Old Vines. We had a lovely experience! The service friendly and professional. The food delicious-fresh, creative and tasty. Our wine chosen from the Old Vines list set off the meal. Our table overlooked the vineyard and lake-a perfect evening out with my husband! Highly recommend Old Vines!"

  • "Great food and view. Service was outstanding. Portion size very reasonable. You will not walk out hungry."

  • "We celebrated our 41st wedding anniversary here. We were located inside the restaurant, but the staff were able to open some doors to essentially place us on their outside patio. The weather was wonderful that evening - no wind, rain or insects. For those located on the patio there are infra red heaters discreetly placed to overcome colder weather elements. This restaurant is one of my favourite restaurants. Good food, good service, and good location."

  • "Very great service, food and wine! Our server was very knowledgeable about all of the food and wine on the menu. She was also an excellent waitress......great balance of energy, friendly, service and knowledge. Very professional atmosphere. My husband and I went there for our anniversary to enjoy the restaurant, and the entire experience was very memorable. Great view, very romantic and not loud at all. I would recommend this place to everyone that I know!"

  • "We enjoyed a lovely lunch while enjoying a view of the vineyard. The service was attentive but not intrusive. Reservations are a must as we did see some disappointed patrons. We highly recommend a visit to both the restaurant and the tasting room."

  • "There was 2 of us and it was a beautiful setting, the hostesses were accomodating as soon as we arrived for we wanted a table with a better view. The food was fantastic and the service was very good. At 1 point, we felt a little ababndoned for she must have got tied down at a table but we were in no hurry so it worked out ok. It's not cheap but we weren't looking for cheap or moderate, it was well worth it."

  • "What's with making your guests wait?? We arrived at 4:45 to an empty restaurant and were told to go to the wine shop or sit on the sofa at the front. We were seated at 5:02. Really? Could have sold us another glass of wine at the bar or a table outside, or just seated us early. Really turned us off needlessly. I love Quails Gate wine and my previous visits to the restaurant were awe inspiring. I still fondly recall the zucchini strip "pasta" with tomato sauce from years ago and I still replicate it in my kitchen every summer. No such inspiration this time. The food was good but the vegetable choices for accompaniment were questionable - heavy and more suitable for winter than summer in the Okanagan."

  • "This was a great start to our Okanagan wine weekend. Very picturesque outdoor space with an easy going staff providing timely service. The menu is seasonal with a good range to compliment the current releases from the winery. Stayed a full three hours to really take it all in."

  • "Simply put... go here... eat and drink, be extremely satisfied, this place is phenomenal! Every time we visit the Okanagan area, we make the trip to have lunch here and will continue to do so!"

  • "Nestled at the end of the vine rows, Old Vines Restaurant is known to any who pay attention to wine culture in the Okanagan, and known to all who know where to travel for summer holiday. Those who have tasted its menu know that every morsel will be a special occasion for your tastebuds; in our case, a special occasion for the newlywed couple too, their second day honeymoon lunch with father of the bride et moi before all must return to the grind of not living in beautiful Kelowna. Meanwhile, a quail roamed the grass under the vines nearby. As if that didn't make it more authentic, how about the wine? Grown in the same soil your chair sits on, the clean scent of shale shares the air and the aromatic glass. A pure gem."

  • "This restaurant has a fantastic setting that includes beautiful views of the lake and mountains. The first impression when entering the restaurant is that it will be a special dining experience. Unfortunately the food does not meet the expectations promised by the menu. While the food was well presented, it lacked the taste and flavour that was expected. On the evening that we were there the service was slow and a little haphazard."

  • "We manage to come to Kelowna about once a year and Quails Gate is a consistent highlight. Food is excellently prepared and presented, staff are friendly but never cloying and the view - fantastic. We appreciate the attention to architecture and details like plates and glassware too. A family favorite if ours."

  • "This was not my first meal at QG, but it was my first one with kids! My fiance, his two girls and I came here for lunch last week and once again, Quail's Gate excelled in every way! They were GREAT with the kids...at the wine shop they offered them sparkling apple juice while we tasted our wine and they were first to serve them at lunch. The food was absolutely perfect...the oysters were a nice cool treat on a hot day and the crab cakes were divine. I would recommend everyone to eat here at least once during their stay in the Okanagan. My fiance and I are now considering this gorgeous venue for our wedding!"

  • "Sitting here on a warm evening with the restaurant opening up to the gorgeous Quail's Gate vineyard, the green Italianate hills and the lake - possibly the nicest table ever - great food, paired local fine wines with each course and really nice service - not to mention the list of local artisan cheeses ..."

  • "I was looking forward to having lunch at Old Vines as I had been there for a special occasion a couple of years ago for dinner and was blown away by the service and the food. Unfortunately, this visit was not a repeat of that amazing experience. Our server brought 2 of the ladies of our group of 6 the wrong wine after a lengthly delay. Our lunch order wasn't taken until much later after the drinks were sorted out. After lunch three of the ladies requested coffee and the coffee was lukewarm at best. The server assured us he would "put on a fresh pot", but when the replacement coffee arrived, it was still lukewarm and undrinkable. The whole experience was disappointing."

  • "Everything (except for 1) about our dining experience was spectacular. I had the Bison Tenderloin, and it was the tastiest piece of meat I've ever had. My wife had the Pork Chop and it was cooked to perfection. It was incredibly moist and flavourful. The sommelier was very good explaining the wine (Foch!), as well as the port I had to finish off the evening. The only "slight" downside was that our waiter seemed quite uninterested. He wasn't terrible, he was just not very engaging."

  • "This well appointed restaurant sits on a hillside affording a beautifull view of the vineyards and Lake Okanagan. Food is rather high-priced for the quantities served, but nicely presented and tasty. Wait staff are attentive and knowledgable ."

  • "Fabulous dinner: food, wine, and ambience; beautiful view."

  • "Unlike the advertisements, patio dining options were limited, and view from inside the restaurant somewhat obstructed by other diners. One hostess was cordial and inclined to accede to our request for patio dining but the other dissuaded her, though some tables were empty and remained so. Our waiter, Stephen, was charming and attentive. The oysters were uneventful, the soufflé divine, and the sampler dessert platter very enjoyable. The wine, a Chenin Blanc, was unremarkable. On the whole it was a pleasant but expensive lunch. We would probably have been more blasé about the cost if our expectations of dining on the patio and drinking in the view had been realised."

  • "This was our 2nd visit and were so pleased with the service, food and ambiance. We had the tuna appetizer, the scallops and the halibut. The tuna was slightly salty but very flavorful. The entres were delicious. We sat outside where they had heaters above each table which helped to make the setting comfortable. The view was breathtaking with the vines and the lake right in front. The gardens were also right there making the experience even more lovely."

  • "We have been to Quails Gate for lunch before but found this visit lacking. Service was not great - my husband didn't receive his wine until after we had finished our appetizer. And then they still charged him for it. My meal had some undercooked vegetables and again, there was no discount to the bill. When dining at an expensive place like this, I expect both service and food to be better and the response to any kind of customer disappointment to be met with action. I'm not looking for freebies but such mistakes should simply not be made. I probably won't go again. Just not worth it."

  • "Our party arrived at 11.30 am (restaurant opening time) for our 12.00 pm reservation but were not able to be seated. We were left in between courses - over an hour between our appetizers and entrees. The ling cod was under cooked but we were told that it was the way the restaurant prepares the fish. The dessert, however, was excellent. We had different guests at Quail's Gate three years ago and they were absolutely taken in by the overall experience. Unfortunately, this time, our guests were not too impressed."

  • "Thoroughly enjoyed our evening. Staff were very attentive and food was delicious. The one issue we would have is the mark up on the wines and we love to enjoy wine with our meal. That is enough to have us not return that soon again."

  • "Whenever it is a special occasion, we think of Quails Gate and it never disappoints. We sat and looked out at the beautiful lake, had a great bottle of their pinot gris and the food was delicious. The wait staff was amazing - all four of them, including the friendly, professional hostess. What a wonderful way to celebrate an anniversary."
