"Its fairytale pretty indoor/outdoor dining room among the vineyards is aptly named Old Vines Patio. Dinner here as the sun sets over the lake is a treat for the eyes and the palate." The New York Times (October 2006) - "Beyond our tables, the panorama of the lakefront, watercraft wake lines and row upon row of grapevines, with mountains in the distance, was mesmerizing." Wine Spectator (July 2004)- "One of the four best places to dine in the Okanagan."Continued

Diner Reviews
  • "The meal was excellent but didn't know about the specials until after we ordered. The view is awesome. A little on the pricy side but worth it."

  • "I was looking forward to having lunch at Old Vines as I had been there for a special occasion a couple of years ago for dinner and was blown away by the service and the food. Unfortunately, this visit was not a repeat of that amazing experience. Our server brought 2 of the ladies of our group of 6 the wrong wine after a lengthly delay. Our lunch order wasn't taken until much later after the drinks were sorted out. After lunch three of the ladies requested coffee and the coffee was lukewarm at best. The server assured us he would "put on a fresh pot", but when the replacement coffee arrived, it was still lukewarm and undrinkable. The whole experience was disappointing."

  • "Sitting here on a warm evening with the restaurant opening up to the gorgeous Quail's Gate vineyard, the green Italianate hills and the lake - possibly the nicest table ever - great food, paired local fine wines with each course and really nice service - not to mention the list of local artisan cheeses ..."

  • "Fabulous dinner: food, wine, and ambience; beautiful view."

  • "Everything (except for 1) about our dining experience was spectacular. I had the Bison Tenderloin, and it was the tastiest piece of meat I've ever had. My wife had the Pork Chop and it was cooked to perfection. It was incredibly moist and flavourful. The sommelier was very good explaining the wine (Foch!), as well as the port I had to finish off the evening. The only "slight" downside was that our waiter seemed quite uninterested. He wasn't terrible, he was just not very engaging."

  • "This well appointed restaurant sits on a hillside affording a beautifull view of the vineyards and Lake Okanagan. Food is rather high-priced for the quantities served, but nicely presented and tasty. Wait staff are attentive and knowledgable ."

  • "Sat outside beside a beautiful vineyard for lunch. Highly recommend the truffle fries. The food and wine were amazing and the services was impeccable. A serious must when visiting Kelowna."

  • "Unlike the advertisements, patio dining options were limited, and view from inside the restaurant somewhat obstructed by other diners. One hostess was cordial and inclined to accede to our request for patio dining but the other dissuaded her, though some tables were empty and remained so. Our waiter, Stephen, was charming and attentive. The oysters were uneventful, the soufflé divine, and the sampler dessert platter very enjoyable. The wine, a Chenin Blanc, was unremarkable. On the whole it was a pleasant but expensive lunch. We would probably have been more blasé about the cost if our expectations of dining on the patio and drinking in the view had been realised."

  • "We have been to Quails Gate for lunch before but found this visit lacking. Service was not great - my husband didn't receive his wine until after we had finished our appetizer. And then they still charged him for it. My meal had some undercooked vegetables and again, there was no discount to the bill. When dining at an expensive place like this, I expect both service and food to be better and the response to any kind of customer disappointment to be met with action. I'm not looking for freebies but such mistakes should simply not be made. I probably won't go again. Just not worth it."

  • "This was our 2nd visit and were so pleased with the service, food and ambiance. We had the tuna appetizer, the scallops and the halibut. The tuna was slightly salty but very flavorful. The entres were delicious. We sat outside where they had heaters above each table which helped to make the setting comfortable. The view was breathtaking with the vines and the lake right in front. The gardens were also right there making the experience even more lovely."

  • "My wife and I had dinner on Wednesday June 25, service and food was outstanding, Halibut was cooked to perfection , wine was fabulous , make sure not to miss this spot if in West Kelowna."

  • "Our party arrived at 11.30 am (restaurant opening time) for our 12.00 pm reservation but were not able to be seated. We were left in between courses - over an hour between our appetizers and entrees. The ling cod was under cooked but we were told that it was the way the restaurant prepares the fish. The dessert, however, was excellent. We had different guests at Quail's Gate three years ago and they were absolutely taken in by the overall experience. Unfortunately, this time, our guests were not too impressed."

  • "Thoroughly enjoyed our evening. Staff were very attentive and food was delicious. The one issue we would have is the mark up on the wines and we love to enjoy wine with our meal. That is enough to have us not return that soon again."

  • "They can cook. The restaurant is beautiful situated close to the lake. The white wines are the best. The Chardannay reserva I got."

  • "The Old Vines restaurant at Quail's Gate never fails to live up to its' reputation as one of the best, if not the best, restaurant in the Okanagan Valley. Outstanding service, food, and wine in a beautiful setting overlooking the Okanagan Lake makes for a great dining experience. We have been to this restaurant on a number of occasions and the experience has been consistently good. Although at the more expensive end of the cost spectrum, the quality of the service and food make for good value. For anyone who enjoys good food and wine, this is a "must do" on the dining list when in the Kelowna area."

  • "Whenever it is a special occasion, we think of Quails Gate and it never disappoints. We sat and looked out at the beautiful lake, had a great bottle of their pinot gris and the food was delicious. The wait staff was amazing - all four of them, including the friendly, professional hostess. What a wonderful way to celebrate an anniversary."

  • "We have had several lunches here on the way from Vancouver to stay with family in Kelowna. It is always a treat. The food exceptional and beautifully presented. The staff is friendly and attentive but not intrusive. We will definitely return. The views and grounds are wonderful."

  • "My husband and I used the online reservation tool to reserve a table for our second wedding anniversary. We booked it for Friday the 13th, as we were heading home to Edmonton the next day. Unfortunately the weather did not co-operate and it rained all day. Our server was excellent, as well as the girl who would fill our water. Food was great! Portions smaller, but expected for a fancy restaurant, plus leaves room to actually enjoy dessert! The only thing I would contest was a table with a family, with 3 kids under 10. They were all very well behaved and quiet. I wouldn't think of this restaurant as kid friendly, and would be upset if I had to listen to noisy, crying children while trying to enjoy a nice dinner and paying $50 for a steak."

  • "This was our first time visiting Old Vines Restaurant and it won't be our last. The food was very good, the service was exceptional, and the wine pairing suggestion, with food, was spot on. The restaurant is quite busy so I would recommend reservations."

  • "Food recomended and service delivered by the staff with their quiet confidence of knowing that both were excellent."

  • "We had a ladies lunch on the patio and really enjoyed our experience. The staff were all very friendly and went out of their way to ensure we had a great experience. The food was good and the view was exceptional!! The manager came by to make sure we had everything we wanted and even gave us a free taste of one their new desert wines which we truly enjoyed!! I would absolutely recommend this restaurant for a ladies gathering or a romantic date night!!"

  • "Wow! because it is such a beautiful place, a great view of the lake and vineyard, a very clean and modern building, with friendly staff. Not so wow about the food as it was good, but only ordinary. Well presented, but overcooked."

  • "We had the foie gras, halibut (to die for) and scallops. We paired the meals with the recommendations and everything was beyond delicious. Our waiter was also very well informed and we had great service. The tasting room closes at 7 so I would recommend for people to arrive before then so you can have a few tasters before dinner."

  • "My husband and I brought our relatives from New Zealand to Kelowna to see wine country. Our one night out for dinner was spent at Quails Gate Old Vines Restaurant. We arrived early and it was not problem. We were seated right away outside and lived the view of the lake. Even when a table came available inside, we chose to remain outside even through a little rain shower. We proceeded to have a wonderful dinner with many bottles of wine and incredible food. We all cleaned our plates! Our server also happened to be from New Zealand and she was very attentive and knowledgable on the menu and wine. Great night!"

  • "My co-worker and I celebrated our birthday's together on Friday for lunch. We sat on the deck and it was perfect. We had a tasty lunch special with some great wine with our meals. Our service was excellent."

  • "The best meal in Kelowna - by far! The food, ambience, and view were the best we have ever experienced."

  • "We made a special point to carve out time in our itinerary to return to this fav spot after 6 yrs. We ordered each of the flights and our server told us nothing about them. Our first course was very nice - salad and a curry coconut soup. The whites paired nicely with them. Then we waited or our main course - about 30 min. Finally, my husband asked the server and she told us that a big table had put their order in just before us. Several moments later, a floor manager came over and told us our dishes had accidentally been served to another table! She gave us free glasses of wine - which was nice. But, then one of the other servers poured water all over my phone and wine notes and said "sorry", did not offer to wipe it up-walked away!"

  • "We had a reservation for a late lunch at 2:30, the last seating. We were running 15 minutes late, I called and was informed that it would be a small bites menu only when we arrived...disappointed but went anyway. SO happy we did!! We chose patio seating, ordered a Meat platter, Cheese plate, Parm fries and a few glasses of wine. The food was delish and just the right amount. The server was friendly and attentive. The day was beautiful and the scenery was georgeous!! I could have sat there all day!"

  • "Fabulous view and atmosphere. Food but it will not be the best you ever had and it should be given the prices."

  • "Everything was amazing. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars all around is the drink service. Our wine pairings came after we had almost finished a dish. The same thing happened last time we were there. And the Americano coffee tasted like plain bland coffee made in a regular pot. I will go here again for dinner for special occasions as while expensive is very much worth it. Will try there brunch as well, soon. The bar service has to improve though to make it a true 5 star restaurant. To get wine pairings late with each course when it's located at a winery and what there ultimately trying to bring you back to and buy more of should be a strong focus for the staff. "

  • "My husband and I had the pleasure of dining at the Quails' Gate Estate Winery. Although the food was quite expensive, the food and service were excellent - well worth the cost. I would definitely go again on my next trip to Kelowna."

  • "We went here because I had gift cards as a reward from my employer in lieu of some recent turmoil. I was looking forward to a delightful and rewarding evening - until I placed my drink order. I am not a wine drinker but I can tell you from experience that apparently only wine drinkers are welcome here. When the waiter/bartender refused my drink order because "this is a winery sir, not a discotheque", we should have walked because the pretension had just begun. Very over priced, small portions, and way too much pretension. We will not be back. "

  • " Our concern was with the service and to a lesser degree the food. There are a great many staff but they all seem very self absorbed and not focused on the customer. When you come for brunch you expect coffee to be prompt and hot which unfortunately it wasn't. LOTS of support staff looking around not seeming to be doing very much and certainly not available to top up a coffee. Food was very nicely displayed on the plate but not really hot which was odd because it wasn't really that busy. Finished plates set aside but not retrieved; odd again with so many staff milling around. "

  • "It goes without saying that we enjoy ourselves at the Old Vines Restaurant, since we keep coming back, especially for luncheons. Out-of-town guests visiting us in Kelowna usually wind up joining us at Quails' Gate for a luncheon to enjoy the food, Okanagan wine, and the incredible view -- surely a fitting "taste" of the Okanagan. As well, thanks for graciously accommodating my gluten-free dietary requirements. You always seem to have several choices available, and with our last visit, you even had gluten-free soup! How unusual is that?"
