We stumbled upon this gem as a farewell dinner after moving my son back to school. We were looking for something new in the city. Wow were we blown away. The dining room is like eating dinner in your best friends den. Nice tables, well spaced and a lots of beautiful hard wood. Don't miss the upstairs bar and lounge another beauty. As good as the setting was, the food was even better. I had the brisket - it melted in my mouth and my son had the pulled pork which he reviewed highly I love the fact that they give you four different types of sauce to try on your food. My favorite was the spicy barbecue. . Desert was rhubarb infused cheesecake. We're not rhubarb eaters but we simultaneously blurted - "great cheesecake" Don't miss it

This restaurant doesn't seem to know what it wants to be. The atmosphere and approach is fussy and uncomfortable, but the food is barbecue. The decor is high end, the music is Chicago blues. Maybe some people think this works well. I don't think any of us did. I'm willing to forgive a lot for good food, but that too was disappointing. Some was quite good (like the house specialty pulled pork). But the "American Kobe Beef Brisket" was bland and also inconsistent. One of us got a reasonably good cut, while another's was almost all fat and gristle, and she found it inedible. (I tried both, so this wasn't just a case of different perception.) The sauces were pretty bland, with the Carolina style vinegar being a notable exception.

After countless business dinners at Chicago and New York steakhouses, I always recommend Chicago Q as a great alternative. It has become a favorite amongst Wall Street firms and investment managers for great lunches and dinners. We enjoyed crabcakes, hush puppies, St. Louis ribs, brisket, pulled pork and the last order of beef ribs that evening, topped off with carrot cake and cheesecake for sharing. The service was great as always.

We love Chicago q. The food is so well prepared and the complimentary chips and delicious pickles are a welcoming start. The vibe is upbeat and happy. The only small glitch this time was a cranky waiter- it can happen. I love the smaller rooms instead of one big one and the decor is definitely upscale without being "fancy." It is not just another good meal, you know you have been somewhere special.

This was our second visit to Chgo Q, the first being about a year ago. The place was empty at 5.30, in contrast to a previous inability once to get in at all on a weekend & a half empty experience before that. Service was prompt & courteous. I have been to many BBQ places with 5 miles over the last few years & the food taste & quality here was poor in comparison. The mac & cheese was virtually tasteless, altho they claimed it was their most popular accompaniment. Pickles were tasteless without tang. The ribs were without smoke favor (there wasn't even a hint of a smoke ring) & the 4 sauces seemed to come out of a bottle from the grocery store. The pulled pork was about the same; the slaw was flat & needed vinegar, salt & pepper.

Great, affordable neighborhood spot to grab excellent bbq. Love the kobe brisket and get the pulled pork with 4 different sauces available to mix and match every time I go. Starters always please. This is my 3rd time here and each time the service was good and the outdoor dining was very comfortable. Notable bourbon and rye list includes a good range from starter craft bourbons such as their own Angel's Envy barrel selection to some harder-to-find offerings such as Willet 23 yr, Lock Stock and Barrel 13 yr, and George Stagg.

This is a great example of a restaurant that began with a strong menu and concept and then is allowed to deteriorate, presumably as cash flows to the investors rather than to the business. The food still pleases (although in smaller quantities) but lets do something about all those broken chairs in the dining room! The front of the house could benefit from the presence of a few experienced hands both at the desk as well as walking the floor. At the end of the day, there is a reason why t-shirt wearers increasingly outnumber folks in grownup attire.

A friend recommended this so was not sure what to expect. It looks to be rather fancy, but it's the right mix of casual, comfort food in an upscale environment. We sat outside as it was a lovely, breezy evening, and barely noticed the traffic. There are so many options that you are sure to find a bbq entree that you like. Plus how can you not like a place that serves pickles and homemade chips when you sit down! Very good wine list as well. And if you are a Bourbon-lover you will have many excellent choices! Luved the Q2 plate- plenty of food for a little lady and more!

I compete in BBQ cook offs and have been to many of the q places in N IL. Tried Q's for first time a week ago. BY far some of the best Q in outside Texas. DEcor is very country urban and has the feel of a typical Texas BBQ joint with fine dining service. Smoked meats are superb with everything moist or barked where it should be. Portions very large. Gator great. Hush puppies ok. Will be back!!

This is a wonderful place for great barbecue and I go every time I'm in town. I had the Q2 combo with brisket and St Louis ribs. Their meat is dry rubbed and served w/all four of their sauces, so you try them all. On seating you are presented w/a bowl of housemade bread and butter pickles and housemade chips seasoned w/their dry rub. Sides are good, too, w/fried green tomatoes, two kinds of cornbread, mac & cheese, greens, and mashed potatoes. Service is attentive but unobtrusive. Try to get on the sidewalk for people watching on the lovely tree-lined street, but the dining areas are great, too. Get a bourbon flight w/your meal!

Second time to visit Chicago q in a year. Loved it the first time - better this time. Had reservations and seated right on time. Homemade chips and pickles followed quickly. Waiter was knowledgeable and pleasant. Food delivered quickly. Table got both Baby Back and St Louis style ribs. Both were great - meaty and fall off the bone - although I prefer the St Louis. 1/2 rack is plenty. The Kobe Beef Beans and Greens are great choices for sides. I highly recommend the q and will not wait as long to return.

Chicago Q came highly recommended and did not disappoint. If you're into bourbon, this is the place to sample! Ask for the Bourbon Bible and get prepared to be overwhelmed. My husband and I shared a three meat platter (pulled pork, chicken and the St. Louis style ribs I believe) as well as two sides which was a good amount of food for two (fairly large) appetites. The BBQ didn't blow us out of the water but we have no complaints either. The assortment of sauces served with the platter were very good - something for every taste. We'd revisit Q, but not before we investigated some other BBQ places...Smoque is on the "places to eat" list. Maybe next time we're in Chicago....

We had just gotten an email talking about Q's exciting new brunch so we tried it out. Unfortunately it didn't seem much different than dinner or lunch. We ate outside and maybe that contributed to long disappearances by our server. He was super nice but it was hard to get his attention. The guy doing our water rocked it so maybe he should be upgraded. Food was tasty but the kobe sandwich and the slider trio were full of fat and gristle (not the chicken) - - i mean overwhelmingly so and the potato salad was drenched in mayo after I had asked and was told it was a mustard/vinegar sauce on it. Mac and cheese was great as always and the oyster po'boy was good. Great atmosphere and a good manager who visited all the tables.

They talk about the rubs they put on the meat as one element of what makes them special. I have to say, without question, they are speaking the truth. My wife is a big fan of tangy sauces on ribs, we were all boasting about how we didn't even bother with the sauces (we had a choice of 4). Sides were really great too, if you want corn bread or roasted corn to be challenging (spicy), they have that. The manager said we would likely appreciate the serving sizes, and we did take home a few doggy boxes, all good the next day. Big desserts. Great bourbon line up. My best friend and his wife came in from out of town, Q made us look smart.

Food was top-notch. Service was good but the noise level is very high. Disappointed we had a party of 5 that was seated at a 4-top with reservations made a week ahead and several open tables near us. Too crowded to fit all of the plates. When making the reservation with Open Table specifically said it was for a birthday celebration but our server never mentioned it and I did not want to embarrass our guest.

You know when you are quite not at home at a restaurant when as a single diner you are put at the back of beyond near the restrooms. Near 15 minutes to get a drink and another 10 to get the good ordered Nibbles where provided but the chips were not fresh and crispy The Berger was loaded to the hilt which is ok but the plate was too small. Did I need at side, no, as coleslaw was already on the plate! so the waitress had not heeded my question on size correctly. No follow up on the drinks side until the manager did his rounds! Disappointing from a customer satisfaction point of view! So all in all ok but could have done better.

Blech... The BBQ "Flight" with chicken, pork, and brisket reminded me of meats prepackaged at the grocery store. The meat lacked seasoning and taste. The sauces were nothing new. The only positive thing was a side of cornbread. My husband ordered a half rack of ribs, but he ate only half of the half because they lacked taste. I ordered the tuna steak, and it was charred on the outside and completely raw on the inside. Service was horrendous. Our waitress was MIA most of the night, and we were sitting around twiddling our thumbs wondering when she'd be back. When a waitress/waiter did come by it was only to hit our heads with their butt walking by due to cramped seating. The place is loud and full of tourists trying too hard.

Brunch on their patio is like heaven. A plate of the southern eggs benedict and a mimosa make for the perfect start to any day. They are always friendly and the service is always first class. Pretty ordinary bbq. "Competition" St. Louis were certainly meaty, but the rub was underwhelming and they were heading toward cold when they hit our table. Kobe brisket is a gimmick that doesn't pay off. At all. Pulled pork was the highlight, but even it wasn't top-tier. Damned adequate, across the board. Service was alternately good and...almost completely absent. Biggest miss, at least in terms of service, was our server (servers, actually) completely forgetting to bring the sauce to our table. Had been curious about Chicago q for quite a while, but don't think there's any need to ever go back. There's far better 'que to bad, even in downtown.

We were recommended the ribs as well as the beans and we were not led astray. The food was very good... Almost as good as what we normally get when we go to Texas but the ambiance was just too nice for BBQ. BBQ is a casual meal... Fingers, hands, and face. This restaurant just felt too formal to eat this type of food comfortably. Brisket was break apart OK... Needed more flavor and perhaps a little more juicy fat. All in all an expensive but tasty meal in a semi-formal atmosphere.
