Diner Reviews
  • "I hosted a casual business dinner on July 10th at Q. We decided to sit outside that evening, which was a great choice as it was very comfortable and slightly less noisy than dining indoors. I am a regular Q diner, and looked forward trying to that evening's special entree to celebrate chef/owner Lee Ann Whippen's recent second-place finish in a national BBQ competition, the dry-rubbed, cherry-smoked Rack of Lamb served with white BBQ sauce atop sauteed kale and chipotle corn. What an incredible dish! The Lamb was perfected cooked and flavored, and the kale/corn was outstanding. My dining friend had never been to Q before, but loved his baby back ribs and potato salad. We started with a crabl cake and hush puppies - always great!"

  • "I planned to stop by this restaurant on our way back from the west coast. I had eaten at the owner's store in Virginia and wanted to try this one. The food was fantastic and plentiful. The side dishes were large enough to share. No one left hungry. I have eaten BBQ all over the country and would defiantly come back."

  • "The food was terrific and the service was very good, a little slow at the end, but mostly good. Can't wait to go back and try the brunch, the memu looked good."

  • "This was our first visit to Q and it was a pleasant experience. The crab cake appetizer was delicious as was the stuff peppers. My companion had the ribs which he enjoyed. As it was his birthday, I was disappointed that it wasn't acknowledged. We would go there again."

  • "Chicago q's interior is beautifully charming and chef makes the best pulled pork and chicken ever! Second visit in six weeks: first was dinner, second was lunch. Yummy sides we've had are greens, cornbread, slaw and fries. The complimentary bbq chips and pickles are delish, too. Going to try the competition ribs next time we are in town from Michigan!"

  • "Waited 15 minutes for Keith to come to the table, when he did he did not greet us or apologize for the wait, seemed bothered from the beginning. I was with two other people...my brothers pulled pork sandwich- he loved, my pulled chicken sandwich was good, however very soggy bun almost like mush, lastly my boyfriends brisket sandwich...ALL FAT! Hardly any actual meat on his sandwich, at most 3-4 bites of brisket the rest was nothing but fat. Waited 15 minutes for the check and 10 minutes to get my card back. I was so unhappy with Keith's service I didn't want to leave a tip, however the server assistants were too great for me not to. All in all don't get the brisket and if you get Keith as a server...MOVE!"

  • "The best dining experience I have ever had in under 60 minutes! Very comfortable but loud for me - I will ask for upstairs seating next time. Everyone enjoyed everything we ordered. Service was quick but never rushed, and our dinners were out very fast and all done right! I could not believe it when we were out (no dessert but they looked great) at 8 PM after a 7 PM seating. We all agreed that it was fabulous and would come back again!"

  • "We ate here on a Saturday night and had a great time! The food is amazing and the service is great too. The restaurant is alot bigger than it seems from the outside and there is alot of space inside. Before you order they give you chips and pickels which are really yummy but make sure not to fill up on them because the portions for the meal is rather large. My boyfriend and I ordered the meat sampler which came with a small portion of brisket, pulled pork and pulled chicken. We also split the mac and cheese. I didn't order it, but alot of people around us had the watermelon salad which looked really good too for a side. We also split a salad. Overall, great place for dinner with awesome food and environment. We will go back"

  • "Four different eating areas each with a classy, upbeat vibe. Best BBQ I've had in the city. All sauces and styles. Huge drink list. Make reservations, it's always busy. SECRET NOTE: if all the tables are full, you can sit upstairs in the waiting area with couches/tv and order food!"

  • "Great St. Louis ribs. Tender pork that fell off the ribs. Bacon cheese fritters too salty. Enjoyed the complimentary pickles and chips! Big portion off pulled pork that was a bit dried. Crust on the apple pie was tasteless. Will be back to try other things on the menu. Enjoyed the ambience. Giovanni was an excellent server!"

  • "Being from North Carolina I thought it would be hard to find good BBQ in the midwest. Chicago Q proved me wrong I've visited them several times now and my experience each time has been great (both food and service)"

  • "I was expecting it to be very crowded at 6 when I got there but I was wrong it was near empty! But the food was still the best around without a doubt! I will be going back, maybe on a Friday or Saturday to see if there are more people"

  • "Saying you are upscale seems to be an excuse for charging more money for food that is just average."

  • "Fantastic place for BBQ in Chicago. I particularly loved the numerous sauces that came with our meal. That was on top of the delicious pickles and bbq potato chips that were complimentary appetizers. One will absolutely leave this place hungry, as the portion sizes are enormous. The service was also excellent, our waitress was prompt and attentive. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone looking for good food in a very nicely decorated restaurant."

  • "The atmosphere was much nicer than most BBQ places but very relaxed. We were first timers so we started with the BBQ trio appetizer and it was a nice way to try the meats and the sauces before ordering. The pulled pork with the spicy sauce was our favorite. We also ordered competition and classic ribs which were both tasty but we did not think the up charge was worth it. The corn bread, watermelon salad, fries and homemade chips were terrific as well. Only watch outs were the noise level, and the drafty vents. We had to move to another table in order not to freeze, but once we were moved the food and service were great."

  • "This restaurant is really very nice inside with lots of character. Our service was ok, but it was Sunday evening and not that crazy yet there was a very long wait to order drinks and settle in. I would rate the service as 80%. He was nice but really offered nothing in the way of suggestions or seeking our preferences to guide us to the menu. The food was very good but not great. There were 6 of us and while the sauces were good, they brought a small bowl of each, enough for 2. I will go back, but rather than expecting great, I will expect good."

  • "Chicago q is in our neighborhood (lucky us) and so it's our "go to" place when we want to take a guest out to eat or feel like a splurge for a special occasion. The food is wonderful. The service is wonderful. Our guests always rave about it and request return visits. The only thing I wish they could improve is the noise level. The acoustics in the back, ground floor dining room are pretty bad. So, we've leaned to request a table in the bar area or upstairs."

  • "It was just my husband and I so we had a tiny table and I felt like our food could barely fit on it. My husbands chair was broken so he had to stand while they got him another one. Our service was bad; the waiter was nice but we had to wait forever for everything. It took him awhile to get our drink order and when he did bring the drinks, he was about to leave again so we stopped him and put in our appetizer order. I don't think he ever came back during dinner to check on us; someone else cleaned off our table and when he finally did come around, we just asked for our bill. That took forever as well. And it was really cold upstairs too. We probably won't go back again."

  • "Initially, the waiter was wonderful with our grandson and getting his order in immediately. The adults ;aced their order about 20 minutes later. Unfortunately, 40 mins after that I approached another staff member and asked where our food went. She was very helpful. The original waiter came back and said nothing. I said 'our food is extremely late' and he simply said 'that can happen' and never apologized. Very very odd."

  • "We came to Chicago Q for a friend's birthday brunch, and they took great care of us. Our server, Kieth, was exceptional and made sure our "Bottomless Mimosas" were truly bottomless. The food was terrific, and Chicago Q played a big role in making it a special day for our friend. Thanks!"

  • "The service is always friendly. BBQ is delicious, with a variety of sauces. Great ribs, big portions. Deserts are the best."

  • "During our trip to Chicago, we tried this restaurant and had a wonderful time. The children event tried the alligator appetizer. The service was phenomenal and there was no wait because we had a reservation through Open Table. My kids take their time eating and we never felt rushed. The Chicago dogs and deep dish pizza is fine but that is still just fast food to me, the food at Chicago Q was a better representation of Chicago cuisine. I redommend the alligator appetizer and the shrimp and grits appetizer."

  • "I took my husband here for Father's Day and we were both pleasantly surprised! The food selection was great! Especially enjoyed the Mac and cheese and baked chips. The Cornish hen was delicious and moist--hands down the best I have ever tasted. Don't order the greens or the sweet potato hash--those were disgusting and I recommend they just take those off the menu all together. All in all we had a great time and my husband enjoyed the new place to eat."

  • "I'm not a huge barbecue fan, but this food was absolutely amazing!! Every bit of it including the chips you get at the beginning. I will be back every single time I visit that area of Chicago."

  • "These were possibly the best ribs I have ever had."

  • "I was seriously disappointed in my experience at Chicago q. My husband is really into bbq right now so I made a reservation for Father's Day brunch. Apparently, the kitchen cannot handle a busy brunch. We were a party of four - two adults, two kids. My daughter received her meal first, while the rest of us waited. My meal came, was wrong and so I sent it back. Although my meal was subsequently served correct, there was still no food for the other two in our party. Eventually (at least 10 minutes later) their food came and one meal (sliders) was seriously undercooked. The manager took care of the bill but it seemed like a very poorly run kitchen and serious lack of communication between the server and staff."

  • "Food was good. Wings are fantastic. Ribs were good and the beans are great with a little heat. The thing that stood out was the incredible service from Jenilee. She answered all the questions we had and made some wonderful recommendations. I will definitely ask for her next time!"

  • "I love chicago Q so much-- I could eat there every day, and eat there almost once a week. Although I pretty much stick to the same thing (pulled pork), I love many other things on the menu too, and should start to branch out more. Their service is always friendly and fast, and I just love it so much."
