Very poor on veggies. If you're not into red meat, not much to offer as main course. No salads, no side dish of veggies.

Although we came on a quiet night we had a great meal. Service was attentive and professional. The food was very nice and beautifully presented. We didn't try it but the fixed price menu (available on Sun, Tues & Wed) for only CAN$24 looked like excellent value. Next time! I was told it can get very busy at brunch and Sat evenings and it is easy to see why. Great decor and in a lovely residential neighbourhood area away from downtown bustle.

This classy place is wonderful for a weekend brunch, a romantic dinner, or a special occasion. Chef Renaud Poirier's creations and fusions never disappoint. If you love food and casual but smart ambience...this is the spot. We're moving back to Europe this month, and Pyrus will be on our 'most missed' list of places in Montreal.

  • A disappointing return to Pyrus
    PlateauDiner
    Dined on 5/17/2013
Having enjoyed Pyrus and recommended it several times to others, we returned to celebrate a special occasion. This evening the restaurant was busier than on our previous visits, and they seemed overwhelmed by it ... long waits between courses and poor service. Only after we asked the manager about our food did our server make a perfunctory apology for the long wait. The main dish, lamb, which we had loved previously, was dry. We had earlier loved the desserts, but the service was so slow we figured it wasn't worth the frustration to try ordering a further course. When the waiter finally brought the bill, he dropped it on the table without looking at us. A restaurant of this price range should offer an experience of pleasant service.

...but the food was great. If it was not for our very strange, very unprofessional, very impolite waiter, the evening would have been perfect for our " retrouvaille ". 3 friends, a chatming local restaurant, a very nice setting by the large open windows, everything was set for a great evening untill the waiter came along.

We've come here at least 5 times and consider Pyrus our "go to" for special occasions. So I booked a week ahead for my wife's birthday and we looked forward to having supper here. We were very disappointed. We had asked for a table near the window but when we showed up none was available. The food missed something. The Calamari tapa was plain. Same for the wild mushroom tapa (which was served cold). The clams were equally unremarkable. Main courses - Salmon and lamb were unimpressive. I at first thought there was something wrong with my palate. Halfway through the meal we concluded that it wasn't us but the food. Did they have a different chef that night? I don't know. But it was all very disappointing and we won't be back for a while.

This was my second time at Pyrus...was there just over a year ago...and I have to say the quality of the food was not the same. As last time I ordered the Veal Cheek which they are famous for, and it was a bit fatty and the bone marrow barely had any meal in it. The sauce was tasteless. Someone ordered the bison steak and asked medium..it came well done and tough, and the highlight was the desserts..the tarte tatin was excellent and the chocolate cake (flourless) was solid.

The restaurant is fantastic! It's bright and comfortable and easy to enjoy. You want to be there and be taken care of all day, and you never feel rushed. The Brunch is so delish that you will eat more than you are capable of! There is a lot of food but it is all done really well and the spit roaster in the open concept kitchen is also something to go see. They are friendly, bilingual and give great service! It is the only place I take all my family and friends when they visit and I have an amazing experience every time!

We were there on night where they were serving a group of 16 people, the service was smooth and everyone ate at the same time which was quite impressive! • Très bon resto de quartier
    OpenTable Diner Since 2012
    Dined on 11/24/2012

The food was excellent (we had 2 entrées, 1 tapas and 1 main course that we shared, plus dessert). However, the service was a bit cold throughout and at the end, we asked for our check (after noticing that they weren't coming to ask us if we were done) and it took another 30 minutes for us to get it, which was weird because we could see that the waiters were not really busy. Plus they never smiled and didn't seem too happy to be there. Overall I might go again because the food was good and we came out with a fairly reasonable bill (113$ tip and tax inc) but I was kind of put off by the service so I don't know...
