A word from Purple Palm at the Colony Palms Hotel
Above all else, the food at the Colony Palms Hotel is beyond anything the Coachella Valley has ever experienced.

Situated in the magnificent courtyard of the Colony Palms Hotel, the restaurant design evokes the glamour of the 1930’s and 40’s when the Colony Palms was “the” place to be seen in Palm Springs. Amazing food, stunning decor, mountain views, and gracious service…what more can be said? Continued

Diner Reviews
  • "Service and food up to the same high standards as 3 yrs. ago when we first dined here. Took Brian's food recommendations and the grilled caesar and deep fried avocado were divine. Still thinking about it! Have recommended this place to many friends back in Vancouver, BC."

  • "The setting is spectacular: outdoors facing the pool with a backlit hotel and the mountains in the distance--really breathtaking. Unfortunately, the food and wine on a weeknight were not at the same level of excellence. When the high point of a $200 dinner is the olives, something is wrong with the kitchen. The lamb loin was beautifully seasoned but served cold ( I was afraid to send it back for reheating because it would become overcooked), and the cioppino was missing its saffron so the broth looked like dishwater. The wine list was thoughtful, but the bottle we ordered had dropped its fruit indicating that they could have problems with their storage (as in, overheated). A drink at sunset, with olives, might be a better option here."

  • "The perfect picture of classic California Spanish style décor. The service is slow. First visit we were seated 1 hour late. Second time, we the restaurant wasn't full, but it took forever to serve each course. We were there over an hour before our salads were served. I complained to our waiter, he agreed that it was too long, but that didn't change anything. When we finished our salads, they said that our entrees were being plated and would be out shortly. Got them 20 minutes later. So for an 8:00 reservation, we got finished by 10:30. They offered comp'd desert to make up for the wait, but I didn't want to have to wait another 30 minutes to get it. Will be back, but eat a late lunch beforehand."

  • "We checked into the Colony Palms Hotel late Saturday morning. While waiting for our room we had lunch at the Purple Palm. Seated by the pool under the boldly striped canopy, enjoyed a terrific meal. Fun, hip and delish without trying too hard. Highly recommend the lavender mojito, grilled ceasar salad, truffle fries- omg. We were so relaxed and happy, decided to stay at the hotel for dinner. Again another great experience. Do not miss the fried avocados. The sea scallops were perfectly cooked. Excellent wine list. When it came time for dessert, we were a bit tired after a day in the sun, the server offered to send our freshly baked chocolate chip cookies to our room, perfection."

  • "Fun atmosphere in Downtown Palm Springs. Set in a spanish colonial style courtyard with poolside bar, the Purple Palm has a vibrant, colorful atmosphere. Service was very attentive and friendly but professional. Food was delicious. Definitely try the bouillabaisse, it was remarkable! The hanger steak was also very good. We had dessert of a bread soaked in creme brulee with side of reduced blueberries. All very good."

  • "Booked this to have dinner with my hubby after picking him up at airport - what an outstanding find! The service, ambience, the cocktail and the dinner was perfection. Purple Palm obviously has an artist chef who knows how to paint with flavors!!! We'll be back - and we live in Palm Desert."

  • "One of our favorite stops on our journey from Arizona to Newport Beach the past 2 years. We enjoy the grilled Romaine Caesar salad very much. The short ribs were some of the best I have ever had and the Brioche Brulee is fabulous. The service is great and we have never been disappointed by their recommendations. Already looking forward to our stop next year."

  • "Small, beautiful seeting with good outdoor seating by the lovely pool and patio area at the hotel. Our waiter Brian was one of the best waiters we have had in years! Food was top notch, prices for the setting and quality not unreasonable. Menu limited but thoughtful, charcuterie platter excellent."

  • "Upn entering we were momentarily transported back to a riad we stayed in in Marrakesh. The poolside ambience was lovely and the food suburb. We also enjoyed the leisurely and unrushed service; they indeed treated us a valued guests."

  • "The decor, the service, the food were all excellent. I had the scallops which were the best I've ever had. My bf loved the pork and the lemon yogurt dessert was very yummy. We noticed cozy alcove seating which we'll ask for next time."

  • "The purple palm blew us away! Best service we have ever received in Palm Springs! Dining outside in the courtyard, beside a gorgeous lit up pool was delightful Creative bourbon drinks! We had the foraged mushrooms, brussell sprout salad and diver scallops to share - each dish was masterful and oh so tasty!"

  • "There aren't too many places here in the desert where you can have lunch outside in a quiet relaxing atmosphere, not adjacent to a busy street or a parking lot. Mitch's is one I can think of. So it's a nice treat. Under the shade, with a carafe of sangria, it's all very relaxing and fun for a $75 lunch. I recommend it Except... Except I have a hard time when a $19 plate of soba noodles and grilled shrimp only has 3, count 'em, 3 shrimp. And I felt bad for the woman who got a $15 shrimp cocktail that had 4 shrimp. Now, that's just not right. Still, for a splurge, have fun, watch the semi-beautiful people by the pool, have a drink. Its a nice place for a two hour lunch. Just bring your own shrimp."

  • "Came here on a friends recomensation and I must say it did not dissapoint! Room was dimly lit and there were a few tables other than myself and guest, but the view over the pool and style of the interior was amazing! Service was on point, a polite and friendly gentelman gave great recomendations and descriptions for our food, when we needed help with wine a young manager came over and helped us through the list and advised our pairings which were perfect. Attentive throughout the evening. The food was very good, my pork dish was cooked perfectly, not an easy task, and my firends pasta special was delicious. Overall a solid and delicous experience."

  • "We got there at 11am on New Year's Day with the idea of having breakfast/brunch. We were informed by the waiter that the breakfast service ended at 11. I asked if there was flexibility on NY day and was told, NO! Meanwhile, our food (lunch) took a very long time and were told it was because the breakfast line had to be switched over to lunch so our food could be prepared. Once we got the food, it was very good. We did speak to the manager, Brett, and he was very apologetic and extremely understanding. It was a delight talking with him. The setting is lovely by the pool and we would have loved to have tried the breakfast. Everyone around us was getting severed with breakfast food and it did look good. Would try it again with better timing."

  • "I've eaten at Purple Palm many times. Each time I hope the service will be better. But it does not improve. Latest was for dinner. Was a lg. group for a b-day dinner on the patio. ALL resources and attention seemed to go to this rowdy, loud group and no one indoors got attention. Except for 1 trio dining next to us who the female chef came out to chat with. She never approached any other customers the entire time. Young male manager (in dark suit) seems to do nothing. Walked up & down the restaurant from kitchen door to check-in podium looking this way & that & never once stopping at tables to greet patrons, check on service, etc. Never. What does he do exactly? Long wait for drinks. Food was not hot. Forgot 2nd drink order."

  • "We have eaten here before and had a great meal. New Years Eve was anything but great. Not worth the $150 per person, not even worth $15 per person. I'm not really this critical, but I don't understand why we had to make a reservation, it was half empty. The food was a typical New Years eve, pre-prepared small portion, not exciting, expensive venue. This is a time when a Restaurant could and should shine. Oh well."

  • "Not a great experience, but probably only because they were understaffed and overwhelmed on a holiday night (Dec. 30). Usually it is MUCH better than what we encountered. They could win me back."

  • "after reading some good reviews- very disappointed!!! the setting is very nice- but we had terrible service- waiter only was coming around when it was time for the bill- other than that we waited 45 min for apps- then they served my wife's dinner with my appetizer- i never take the time to write these reviews- but stay away! maybe just a drink at the bar would have been nice- wish i could have my $150 back! food was marginal-"

  • "This restaurant never fails to impress. The menu is creative and the service is impeccable. As part of the Colony Palms Hotel, their primary goal is to serve hotel guests, so they do little self-promotion so it's not on the top of everyone's list. But they are very welcoming to those who find them. Outside seating overlooking the beautiful pool is a total "Palm Springs" experience. Dinning inside can be a little noisy, but you quickly forget all about that when the food arrives!"

  • "It was great to sit outside by the pool on a sunny warm December day with a tasty cocktail and delicious food. The charred Caesar salad is one of the BEST we've ever had. We enjoyed choosing from a variety of small plates."

  • "We had to come back for another braised Caesar salad and sea scallop entre. Both are among the best we've ever had! I would also suggest brioche/blueberry dessert which was wonderful."

  • "We came in for brunch at about 11 am. We decided to valet the car, which was free. Nice. The tables are by the pool and the atmosphere was quite pleasant. We sat where we liked and was told that if we wanted coffee it is "over there", when she pointed to a large urn on the bar. Odd. We went to get our coffee, but it was empty. Our server then got our coffee and served it. We ordered our breakfasts, but about 7 or 8 minutes after we put our order in, we were told the cooks threw out all the breakfast potatoes because he thought breakfast was over. I was asked if I wanted fruit with my steak. Answer was no, of course. Re-ordered and my omelet was quite good. I don't think I'll be back though."

  • "A beautiful setting among the palms for dinner on the terrace. The food remains excellent and the service was terrific. Our waiter steered us to a Malbec that was not currently in the list, which we appreciated. The charred lamb loin is still a highlight, perfectly prepared. As we lingered, a surprise desert appeared along with a taste of Pinot for. The bar. The creme brûlée brioche was a spectacular way to cap a great meal."

  • "We went this year with 4 other friends. Two, who had lived in PS for 25 years, had never been there before. Both are serious foodies!! They were so surprised to find Purple Palm. They marveled at the sophistication of the flavors in the cuisine. I am sure this restaurant has captured two more regulars! We love the table to the left of the bar facing the pool. Everyone loved their meal and as usual we plan to be back when we return to Palm Springs."

  • "I commented to my partner that if there was a way to make Lamb into candy ... the lamb dish at The Purple Palm is the closest thing to it imaginable. Every bite elicited "Mmmm"s. My partner had the Pork Tenderloin which was delicious as well."
