Diner Reviews
  • "Once again we had a great meal. I tried the steak and frites, a new item on the menu. Very tasty and perfectly seasoned."

  • "I had the Quinoa and Arugala salad. It was very healthy, but lacked flavor. I would suggest a mild citrus dressing of viinagrette would make the taste sensational."

  • "We were 5 women, dining out after shopping in downtown Seattle for my daughter's wedding gown .. We started at the bar where each of us ordered different flights of wine, then to our table where the fun contined! One thing I really like about this place is the timing of the service. The wait staff are friendly and knowledgeable, never hover---it's all about their guests. Purple was the perfect way to end my daughter's special day!"

  • "While visiting Seattle everyone we asked for dinner recommendations said to go to Purple. After being 3 times and having a less then satisfying meal, this last time was the most disappointing. Our meals were new to the menu and very poorly thought out. To pair a halibut with a Mint Pea Pure was very unappetizing. the manager was very accommodating to provide us with gift cards for our next visit along with a little dessert at the end of the meal, and while the location and ambiance are great however I'm not sure if that will be enough to bring us back."

  • "Great location in Downtown Seattle. Food was amazing, service was great, Sommelier was fantastic suggesting the perfect wine to accompany our dinner from their massive wine list."

  • "the salads are nice and the service quick for lunch."

  • "We met there for lunch and loved their chopped salad. I added prawns to mine: cooked perfectly. Grace, our server, was very nice and treated us to some salted caramels which went great with the creme' brulee we all shared. We also had entertainment from outside on the street. There was models walking back and forth across the street while being photographed and not just by the pros! All in all, a fun experience. Love Purple Cafe."

  • "I have been several times to the downtown location and it remains consistent in service and food quality. This last time I had the beet salid and apple / ham pizza. Both delicious and I would order them again. A good idea to make reservations on the weekend as it is a busy place"

  • "I had no idea the Purple had such fine food selections. The food quality was terriffic. Very happliy surprised. I thought it would have simple BAR type food and never considered it for a place to dine. Wonderful find."

  • "my family and I were visiting Seattle for the weekend and were looking for a special restaurant and Purple exceeded all our standards for fine dining. would recommend this place to anyone and would be sure to visit next time we are in town."

  • "Four of us went for wine tasting and dining experience and were not disappointed. We enjoy trying different wines and being from the Yakima Valley it was a joy to find this unique cafe and wine bar. We were greeted immediately and seated quickly. We were pleased that we chose to sit on the balcony level so that we could watch the activity as the cafe filled up for the evening meal. The waiter, wait staff and sommelier were all wonderful and went the extra mile to find out our wine interests and to pair our meals with a most delightful red wine from Lebanon. Needless to say, we will be back and are recommending it to many people. This Groupon package linked with a stay at the Roosevelt Hotel and neither establishment disappointed!"

  • "We love Purple. The food is great, the wine is amazing. We had a guest in from out of town and selected Purple to do dinner at before a show at the Paramount. She was pleasantly surprised at how good her pasta was (GF) and our waiter moved our dinner along at a relaxed pace knowing we needed leave by 7:30 for the show. At 7:25 our bill arrived, and was quickly taken care of. Service, food, wine...what more do you want?"

  • "After work, pre or post concert, or for any reason to be downtown Seattle and wanting a great place for lunch or an early or late dinner this is an excellent choice."

  • "Reserved a quiet, romantic table for our anniversary, but did not realize Purple is as busy as it is, even on a week night. They did give us what was arguable the most discreet table in the place - right in a corner, but the noise level was pretty high so quiet romance was just not an option. However, the service was excellent, our wait person was very knowledgable (of menu and area in general), personable and likable, and we were not neglected a bit. The food was outstanding - flavors were full and honest (not doctored), although portions were smaller than we expected. They are known for wine, not cocktails, but don;t be afraid to ask for your favorite, even if it's not on the menu. They can probably do it."

  • "the wine list was good. the place is beautiful if perhaps becoming a bit dated. but the food... was ok. yup. just ok. it really didn't wow us. we had: the chopped salad - actually quite good. the porcini mushroom pasta - boring the halibut special - very good the pork porterhouse - dry, way too salty sorry purple we probably won't be back for dinner, but maybe we'll stop by for a glass of wine at the bar. :)"

  • "I have eaten here twice before events at Benaroya Hall and both times the service was timely and friendly and the food tasty. The wrought iron chairs may be the only drawbacks, since they must weigh 50 lbs and are difficult to move. Otherwise a nice room, lively crowd and convenient."

  • "Fantastic service! Greeted at the door courteously as soon as we entered. Service staff were very knowledgeable and helpful. They never acted pretentious like a lot of wine bars do. Great food, great prices and we will definitely go back"

  • "Love all three locations. Excellent food and drinks, great for out of town guests too. Love those stuffed dates."
    Dined on 3/22/2014
  • "While the space has a certain cavernous charm, it was not too loud or impersonal, and the wait staff and wine steward were all excellent--as was their wine. The lobster mac and cheese was a bit one-notey but good, filling comfort food, and the salads, cheese selections and dessert were all varied, interesting and excellent. A good time had by all in our group!"

  • "Consistently fresh food and lovey atmosphere. Great for cocktails and apps."

  • "We enjoy purple and go every time we are in seattle. This time we brought our three year old and she loved the experience and the food! Thank you!"

  • "It took more than 40 minutes to order our food. We had a reservation, and we wanted to eat before 8:30 (7:30 reservation and we showed up early). We did not get water without asking. It was a $300 bill for the four of us and the service did not meet our standards at all. I was very surprised."
    Dined on 3/19/2014
  • "We were happy with everything we ordered. Every restaurant has lobster-mac-n-cheese these days, but this was the best I've had -- not a regular mac-n-cheese (not a dense casserole, and real cheese flavor), and huge chunks of lobster (whole claw pieces). Salmon tartare was awesome, pork chop was tender and flavorful, spicy shrimp with frites was awesome, and sauteed calamari with beans was tender. I went with the recommended wine pairings with each dish and was very pleased (nice to have the small pours matched to each plate). This place is now a favorite -- my only complaint is it was very loud, any louder would have been impossible to talk."

  • "The wine is very expexensive for local wine. We were surprised. The appetizers were okay. Brussel sprouts with bacon were tiny. The crabcakes were apparently not made with fresh crab. The coffee was very strong from a french press. This resturant has a lot of press as a go to place in Seatlle. Maybe this was just an off night."

  • "The service was very slow (and not a busy night). No one came to ask for our drink orders for about 45 minutes after we were seated. Two of us had martinis, and they were the smallest martinis I have ever gotten in any restaurant. Then another 30-45 minutes passed before our server asked for our meal orders. The entrees were excellent but as small as, or even smaller than, what one might expect at a typical French restaurant - perhaps the restaurant name should be changed to "Pourpre" so as not to surprise their diners with the skimpy portions. After finishing our meals, we waited at least another half hour for the server to ask for our dessert orders. At least my coffee was a generous size, but $6 for coffee seems a bit high."

  • "Purple has always been a favorite of ours, But tonight was off. Our waitress was nice enough but just a tad creepy. Lingered in odd ways, described the specials strangely, and incorrectly.. And towards the end of our meal basically vanished. The shrimp I had were great but the Brussels sprouts side was surprisingly bitter and undercooked. Don't try the orange dry soda, unless you like the taste of vinegar. Eww. Lemon was ok, but not worth $4. Menu listed a vanilla soda but the waitress said it was unavailable.. I get the feeling maybe she just didn't know the menu. By the time we finally got our bill I was no longer interested in dessert. Sad... Hopefully this was just a fluke but disappointed."

  • "For our first time at the Purple Cafe it was near flawless. A suggestion, in order to have 'romantic' checked off would be more space between couple seating. Two gals came in shortly after we arrived and it felt as though they were seated with us. Overall food portions and flavors are spot on...are server was very attentive."

  • "Our appetizers were very good but quite pricey. The staff was GREAT!"

  • "We had dinner with friends on a Saturday night. Our server was wonderful. However, I would NOT return to Purple because the food was just ok. The spicy shrimp appetizer was the best thing we had there. My entree was very sad. $30 for the most bland duck breast of all time. I actually asked the server to bring salt. The lentils that accompanied the duck had no flavor. The duck was well cooked, med rare, but also lacking in flavor. My companion had the quinoa salad and also found it very bland. So disappointing. The ticket for the four of us was $275. For that price I expect to be wowed or at least pleased and satisfied. The ambiance was very grand, iron and wood, slightly Vegas with wonderful huge windows."

  • "I have now been here twice and love love love it! The food is amazing! I just ask the server or bartender to pair with wines with what I am eating and have loved every pairing. The bill can definitely add up so it is more of a special occasion outing for me but totally worth it! This second time it was a group of three of us and we ordered 3 appetizers with the wine pairings and 3 meals and asked for red pairings with the food and each was amazing... we passed around the food and wine so we all got to experience the pairings together and each meal instead of having to choose just one. It was awesome!"

  • "My girlfriend and I enjoyed the restaurant's setting and diverse wine selection but the lamb meatballs and pasta were cold and over cooked and therefore negated the overall dining experience."
    Dined on 3/15/2014
  • "The food was great as usual, but it seems a bit understaffed during the lunch hour. After we were seated, it took at least 20 minutes before someone came to take our order."
    Dined on 3/13/2014
  • "The environment is cool, drinks were good and big selection, food was wonderful, especially the baked Brie for an app. We did have to wait a while for our food though. Wine guy great but server was not engaging and didn't seem to want to be friendly with us."

  • "The place was a perfect location for a birthday dinner for my girlfriend. The prices were not too expensive, but nice enough to be a little of a special occasion. The food was amazing and really blew us both away. We both had a flight of wine and then a follow glass with our favorite one. Although the location seemed a little loud while waiting to be seated, once at our table it was not bad at all. Service was fantastic with multiple servers each stopping by in nice intervals to ensure we were always taken care of, but not bothered. Highly recommend."

  • "High ceilings, lots of light and windows, open concept. Our server was both very personable and extremely professional. The menu was original, with lots of variety and choices. Loved the idea of half portions for most items. The food arrived very quickly and was excellent! From the sweet potato fries to the pear and gorgonzola pizza, the tastes were fresh and delicious. Check out the menu online and, if you like it, don't miss this place. I will definitely be back on my next trip to Seattle."
