Diner Reviews
  • "My husband and I had eaten at the Bellevue location several times and were incredibly pleased with our experiences. At the Seattle location we were placed very close to two other couples, one of which was arguing. The menu was sadly different than Bellevue's. The calamari wasn't nearly as good and they don't offer the same steak. We will definitely keep this in mind the next time we are choosing a restaurant."

  • "The food was spectacular! We enjoyed the Brie appetizer, two different salads and split the halibut which was so delicious. They were lovely to my two year old son, and had a decent kid menu for him to choose from. Great service, extensive wine list!"

  • "We had a great time at your resturant. The food and wine list was excellent. The service was the best. We will definitely come back to enjoy your resturant. We are from Hawaii. Thank again. Mahaho . Palepa"

  • "Have had a good experience every time I have dined here. The location is great for when I have guests visiting and they want to spend some time down town, and the food is very well done. I find it a bit chilly, and a touch loud but overall a great place."

  • "Honestly, their food tastes amazing. From the presentation to the taste to the very last bite, pretty much perfection. I ordered the choose 3 lunch and the only complaint I have is the cauliflower soup which I normally love here was very bland. Ok, one more complaint...their in house made sodas....wow, weird! Tried the balsamic and strawberry...tastes like your drinking balsamic vinegar! Other than that...my dining party ordered the special duck con-fit pasta special and the other ordered the crab pasta on the menu. Both finished the whole thing so think it was good. Commentary on the Duck special was is lacked flavor and pizzazz but they like the shredded duck as the strong flavor was not overbearing."

  • "Our first night in Seattle and found this little gem. Loved the food with the wine paring, started with a bake brie that was awesome. The serving staff knew what wines to suggestion if you did not go with paring, and ended with a strawberry shortcake soaked in balsamic, unbelievabling great."

  • "Started with the prawns and recommend them highly. Mussels and fish stew rounded out a great dinner. Our waiter was most helpful."

  • "This is my second visit. I am from Vancouver, B.C. The first was with my fiance and second was my stagette. I had an amazing time, loved the wine and the duck! Great decor and service."

  • "Went to Seattle for a girls weekend. Went to this cafe and had great food, awesome service and I would definately go back!"

  • "Right in the heart of downtown and close to hotels, it's a great spot for lunch. I took my out of town friend to this place and we both enjoyed the great food. The staff was friend and our waiter was attentive and explained the menu well. I have been here a few times and have never been disappointed with the menu and the taste of the food. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone."

  • "Menu was good and the food was great when it arrived (although it did take a while to show up). I'm a vegetarian and there were a decent amount of options. I had the bruschetta, the mushroom & quinoa burger and the greek yogurt pancetta and they were all great."

  • "This was the first time I had been to the Purple Cafe. It is a enchanting wine bar with wonderful ambience. I made reservation for a business lunch at the suggestion of my client and I was so impressed with the confirmation call the day prior. The food was fantastic, the service was excellent and I can't wait to go back with my fiance' for a romantic dinner for two. Great experience!"

  • "The recommendation for wine was excellent and the food was great from the appetizer to the desert - this is one of our favorite places to dine in Seattle!"

  • "When you have a few people in your group and can't decide on a place to go, the Purple menu handles a good range of food types. Just about everything I've had there is really good. A little loud (u[stairs is quieter) but it's an open atmosphere and great wine list."

  • "Everyone in the restaurant was friendly and helpful. Due to heavy traffic we arrived late for our reservations, we still wanted to fit dinner in before our nearby show. We asked our server if she thought it would work and she let us know which items on the menu could be served quickly. She got our order in and out very efficiently and we made the show with time to spare. Our pasta and pizzas were excellent, looking forward to returning to enjoy more of what the menu offers and take our time enjoying it!"

  • "Love to dine here when I'm in Seattle because I'm never disappointed. Waiters are always friendly, knowledgable and efficient. Appreciate how they pair wines with each appetizer, entree and dessert so I don't have to puzzle over it. I also love their assorted wine flights---always a great experience. The salmon I had was perfectly cooked, and the accompanied sauce was outstanding---not overpowering, but enhancing the flavor. The Brie cheese appetizer, delish! Desserts---hard to pick just one!"

  • "We're repeat customers from out of town. Food is always exceptional, as is the wine list. The service for lunch during our last visit was very slow, and not very professional (waiter forgot drink order, disappeared for long periods)."
    Dined on 7/12/2014
  • "We've had good experiences here before, so we were excited to go this time around. Unfortunately, we were very disappointed this time around, with both the food and the service. I think there needs to be consistency with the quality of food, service, and the experience. I must say, we had better experience sitting at the upstairs bar, eating appetizer/bar type of dishes during our previous visits than sitting at the table in the dining room with the main course dishes."

  • "Exceptional wine list. Very nice menu and good food. However, the service did not fit the price tag. I would probably try the purple cafe one more time before I completely shot it down"

  • "While the food and service were excellent, the focus here is on the vibe: urban energy. Better for people-watching than for quiet conversation."

  • "Enjoyed the bruschetta, an amazing salad with chicken & shared 2 desserts the peanut butter cookie with banana ice cream & strawberry shortcake with vanilla bean ice cream. Good service. Not recommended for a quiet date night, but if you are looking for a good scene & some wine too this is the place for you. We enjoyed a red & white wine flight & had an overall good experience. I would recommend for anyone. There are plenty of choices here for everyone. Have fun!"

  • "The Beef Tartare & The Mac & Cheese w/ lobster were literally the highlight of my week! food was great, service was fantastic, ambiance was fantastic, we went there during a Wednesday evening but it felt like a Friday night! The only negative part was towards the end of our dinner, while eating my roast duck, a fly that landed on my plate and crawled touched my food, luckily it only touched the sides of my entree. I wrote about this in the dinner review after i paid, but i didn't bother to tell Christian, our server, because it had nothing to do with the service or the quality of food, but I just thought I could mention it here. Overall, a great experience, can't wait to come back a second time and eat more mac & cheese!!"

  • "We had good food, good service, but the noise level is excessive...very difficult to have a conversation from one end of the table to the other."

  • "Great wine list, food well prepared , innovative and a lot of fun."

  • "Used to love this restaurant but had a dreadfulmeal with an awful surly waiter and food that was not up to scratch. When we asked to speak to the 'new' manager we found out the reasonfor the decline: horrible little man who was rude and had his staff intimidated. The experience was so bad it ruined our evening so we just paid our bill and left, but in retrospect we wish we hadn't paid. Amazing how one bad new manager can ruin a good place"

  • "Great food as always and the service was outstanding. We had a large party of 18 people and ended up in the private room, which made the dining experience that much more amazing."

  • "This was our first trip to Seattle and the best dinner we had was at Purple Cafe. We also had a terrific waitress there who was kind enough to recommend a good place for us to try for brunch on July 4 (Pesos) -- which was equally terrific! Next time we're in Seattle, we'll definitely make return visits to both places."

  • "Very noisy, open environment. Food is consistent, service is good even if the staff seems to turn over a lot. Wine list is fantastic."

  • "It was a great spot to have an informal, business meeting. We ate pizza, as the other options looked a little expensive."

  • "We got seated at the corner window, which has to be the best table in the place. Great people watching! My husband had the pork short ribs and really enjoyed them, but my choice was a special of gnocchi with morels and peas; simply stunning. Great wine selection, sommelier not irritating. Noise volume is something to think about, though, if you're looking for romantic conversation... this isn't it."

  • "Great service, amazing food and sexy ambience! Flavors were bold and surprising. We had mussels in coconut curry, kale Caesar with steak and seafood stew. And it was a good-looking crowd that night, so tasties for the visual palate, too."

  • "The food at Purple is wonderful. There is a good variety so that if you are with a group everyone can find something they want to eat. The wine list is HUGE! I enjoy Riesling and many restaurants do not carry a very big selection but at Purple I actually had to decide from a list that must have had at least twenty options. The restaurant is quite loud so it may not be the best place for quiet conversation but I was still able to hear the people across the table from me. The waitress was helpful but when it came to a question about the wine she said she would get the wine expert but the way it was said and the length of time until he got there left us enough time to decide on our own and then place our whole order. I would come back."

  • "Purple is a great place for a nice dinner out on the town. The appetizers were better than the main courses, the brie was phenomenal! We felt the maine dishes were small and a bit overpriced but still enjoyable. Deserts were good, the cheesecake is amazing but it is one tiny bit sized piece for $10 (a little steep). Overall a fun atmosphere for dinner and drinks."

  • "WOW!...we walked on a very busy Saturday night with Open Table reservations...warmly received by the hostess and taken back to a very quiet but active area in the restaurant...started with the salmon tartare and paired it with the wine suggestion...impeccable and professional pairing...my husband and I had the same evening special of King Alakan Salmon and enjoyed a glass of the suggested wine...SPOT ON FOODiE WINE experience...my husband enjoyed the strawberry rhubarb bar and we shared a large french press coffee!!! Overall incredible greeting, ambiance, service, food and wine!!!...just go you will not be disappointed...thank you a lovely last night in seattle!"

  • "We had a wonderful dinner (lobster mac and cheese, steak frites) and our terrific waitress tempted us with desserts. I enjoy port so she directed me to the chocolate treats paired with port. My husband opted for the chocolate mouse. My dessert was very good and the port was exceptional. However, when the mousse hit the table we both stopped breathing. The presentation was absolutely exceptional. Amazingly, eating the mousse was even better. The first bite simply melted in my mouth and slid down my throat. The flavors were incredible. My husband loves chocolate mousse and told our waitress that it was the best he had ever consumed. Kudos."

  • "Staff was very pleasant and attentive. Food was good, wine list just so-so. They had a huge variety of wines but the selections by the glass were not notable. The gorgonzola stuffed dates were the best thing we ate. My husband had the pasta with meatballs and it was incredibly spicy. Mind you, we like spice but not prepared for the spice in the sauce. So much so, could only eat part of it. I had the mushroom pasta special. It was tasty though sauce was mostly just butter. Daughters had a chicken sandwich and hamburger, both of which they enjoyed."
