A couple of friends were visiting from Alberta, Canada. I took them to purple cafe in Bellevue, they loved the ambiance and food but the waiter was a bit out of it seemed like he was new there and didn't know much. I will still keep going there because I love the place!

I've eaten at Purple numerous times. The food is good and the wine list interesting. But my biggest complaint is always how noisy it is. I'm all for a festive atmosphere and don't want to eat in silence. But it's a problem when I can't hear my table companions even when the restaurant is fairly empty. It's gotten to where the food isn't worth it. Service is usually fairly good. But this particular time we had a server who wasn't very attentive. My wine glass stayed empty during much of the meal. She didn't check back to see how things were. Also, she bumped a knife off the table at the beginning of service and no one ever came by to replace it.

Just a complete night!! From the moment we were seated our waiter helped us with our wine selection and then with our food selections, hit a home run for both, food was great along with the wine. Fantastic ambience where you could have a nice conversation at your table without the roar of some establishments.

Arrived with a reservation from out of area made two weeks prior. Got shown to a table that is in a dark alcove. We came because of what the reviews said was the ambiance, good food and wine list. Arrived and was told the place is full as there were a number of groups and was shown to the bar and asked to wait for a table. Eventually shown a table. The food is mediocre and the only staff that showed he or she wanted to be there was the wine steward. There are far too many good restaurants to go back to purple. Most places have decent wine lists now and much better food AND ambiance I heard Purple was fun when it opened but it has appeared to have lost it's way.

Always one of my favorite restaurants for food and a date night or even to take the whole family. Although this last visit the service was not up to there standard. It seems our waitress was doubling behind the bar and was not attentive enough to us. I'll still go back but prefer some of there other locations.

Two of us met -- one from Seattle, the other from Redmond, to catch up and enjoy wonderful wine and fabulous food. We found both at Purple Cafe. We started with Royal Kir and crispy chardonnay followed by amazing Halibut and crisp salads. One order of succotash was plenty with even some left over to carry home. No room for dessert. We'll be back. Staff was excellent; much quieter outside than in. Thanks all.

We have always counted on Purple for a a consistently above average meal with excellent service. On this occasion the risotto, one of their specialties was overly salty and a bity dry. The server was not up to the prompt, attentive standard we have come to expect at Purple.

I've had off and on success with Purple. Tonight was great. The chopped salad is among the best of its kind (still). The special risotto was "different", in a good way. More like rice with chicken and tomatoes, than creamy risotto, but I'd recommend it. Purple has apparently discontinued its 1/2 price Sunday wine night (frown), but you can still bring a special bottle here with no corkage fees (enthusiastic smile).

  • Absurdly Overpriced

Purple is trying really hard to be an upscale, wine-centered bar with good food. It succeeds partly, but is absurdly overpriced. Given the quality of food, the prices are absurdly high. Starter: Bruschetta. Four cracker-sized pieces of bread with basil, cheese, and cheap balsamic for $11. It was, at best, mediocre. My entrée: Veggie burger & fries. The burger was simply bad. It was mushy, and had the consistency of thick mashed potatoes. I only finished it because I paid so much for it and was hungry. Wife's entrée: Pasta with basil pesto. It was dripping with olive oil and tasted very greasy. I can easily make better at home out of a jar. Overall: good wine selection doesn't make up for bad food. Especially at the high prices.

We came for a late dinner during the week and had a great time. I had the cranberry chicken salad and loved it, except I would have liked the apples in smaller pieces. The Forgeron Cellars Chardonnay tasted great with my salad and I will probably order it again. My dining partner had a bacon burger and sweet potato fries, it was huge and he said it was very good. I love the atmosphere, very unique with lots of metal and low light. I imagine if it was crowed it would be noisy but we were there late on a weeknight and it was fine. The service was good, we didn't have to wait for anything. I look forward to my next visit to Purple.

My husband and I came here for an early Sunday evening dinner (4:45pm reservations), so the restaurant was quite empty and quiet. By the time we left around 6:10pm, more people were there. The food was delicious, and we were there during Happy Hour, so we took advantage of that menu, in addition to ordering from the regular dinner menu. The lobster mac n cheese was delicious and rich. My husband had the french dip, which was also very good. We also had the peanut butter/chocolate brownie for dessert ... yum!

Coincidently we had dinner at 3 nice restaurants last week with Purple being the 3rd (Matt's in the Market & Maximilian at the Market )". Good comparison - The value at Purple was the best. All three had unique ambience and good food. The pricing varied dramatically with Purple being the best value and the food equal to or better than the other restaurants. The service suffered at Purple. It was inattentive, bored, slow and bordered on rude (we are good guests). We will try Purple/Bellevue again hoping it was just a single wait staff issues.

We had great food and great service. They have one of the best kids menus. I made a big mistake and ordered a similar, but the wrong appetizer. They so kindly exchanged it and also made a special effort to make sure that our kids were served in a very timely fashion. Everyone was very happy with their wine and food.

We used to enjoy dining at Purple but have noticed the past several times at various locations the service and food have been very lax. From the person seating us (unfortunately, every location) to the server to the food, what was once a premium and fun dining experience, is now something no longer worth paying for.

June 2013 was the last time I dined here. Dined today, May 25 and the menu has changed from small plates and prix fixe to a small set menu. I liked to dine her because of the variety. Ordered the Burger which was good but too salty. Husband ordered the Chicken Breast on Mash Potatoes. The dish would of been fine without the sauce. The sauce did not complement the entree. Bring the old menu back and I will retunr.

The food was good, although my Chicken Cranberry salad was not as good as other visits (Seattle); seemed almost missing the vinagrette. The waitress was very attentive and pleasant. It was a bit loud for a business lunch, but, it may have been due to our seat in an area where noise may have been trapped.

They changed the menu a few weeks back and my beloved small plates - one of the reasons I keep coming to Purple - are gone 😡 What we had was great though, the confit was the best duck I've ever had, super tender and juicy and not greasy at all. Bottom line: I'll keep coming but not as often as I used to - unless, of course, they realize their mistake and bring the small plates back!

Met some friends we've never dinned with at Purple in Bellevue for lunch. Food, service and accommodations were great. The only interesting thing was that they placed us inside a steel spiral area. No one else was in there (4 or 5 more tables) and he sound echoed a lot. No complaints, the chicken salad and carmal bread pudding were awesome!
