Large doors that are not simple to open. The entrance is a little intimidating as you open the oversized iron doors and are confronted by curtains you have to navigate to get to reception. The heavy iron in both chairs to napkin rings is overdone. Serious damage if you drop one on your foot I might add. It took longer than expected for the initial greeting/water from server, considering it was relatively slow. No real assistance or encouragement with menu choices, though the food was good and even surprising at times. Overall.. I think great potential with menu but the environment is overdone, it actually takes away from the food, and wait staff do not demonstrate passion for the food or wine.

Went there for lunch during restaurant week. Ordered appetizers and entrée, where we were surprised with entrée showing up before appetizers. And the appetizers show up 10 mins after the entrée. That is certainly an interesting service consider there were not much customers around. But I have to say that their food and wine was fresh

We came with a large group and had a lovely time! All of the food was excellent, we were stuffed after! Service was kind and attentive, and the interior of this restaurant ROCKS! A bit pricy normally for a lunch but we did SRW so it was not bad! They have Caffe Vita coffe too. :)

Were here for the Seattle restaurant week. Food was good but not special. We were still working on our starters and the main course was already there ! Like the Kirland Purple Cafe better than the Bellevue one. Their layout is much nicer and cosier.

This was our first dining at Purple in Bellevue - the restaurant has an industrial feel with lots of wrought iron and an open floor plan around the spiral staircase. It was a bit too noisy, not really a place that I'd recommend for a slow, intimate dinner, even though the food and service were outstanding. The butternut squash ravioli in cream sauce was outstanding. As a complete wine n00b, I appreciated the suggested pairings with each course.

We have been on a no carb/low fat diet for a month and had been to a stage play in Seattle and were looking for someplace to have an early dinner that wouldn't blow our diet. Purple in Bellevue turned out to be the perfect answer. We both had the braised lamb with turnips, carrots, pearl onions and gnocchi. It was astounding. The only complaint was that we had to ask for a spoon to get all the amazing braising liquid that surrounded the gnocchi. Top that off with a glass of Syrah and I as in heaven.

My friends and I had dinner there on Thursday, the night before our conference started at the Westin Bellevue. We were placed in the corner behind the front desk and it was quiet and intimate. Service was good as was the food. I had the wine paired with my wild boar pasta and my friends ordered a viognier with their chicken and mashed potatoes dinner.

Made reservations online & recognized upon arrival; were then directed to a depressing location...inside a VERY dark architectural spiral, with poor lighting, dismal feeling, no sight-lines to outdoors, arranged quite tightly with other tables/diners; upon request were then re-seated in a better lit, but high-traffic area (as no other options were available); environment was too noisy, hard to hear companion. Positives were that food was good and server very accommodating and attentive to our timeline needs (with upfront notification that we had a schedule to keep to that evening).

Great food, with sensible wine pairings and a great set of aperitifs available; unfortunately on the night we went it was let down by slow service, random unordered food arriving at the table and a wait of up to 15 minutes to get a drink order fulfilled before we even got to selecting from the food menu. Almost certainly would be better on a quieter night other than a Friday (and you'll never go short on water refills.)

We had WONDEFUL food and love the restaurant on the whole, just had a new server I think, who did most everything badly. Waited FOREVER for one of our appetizers, same with a wine flight, had NO advice RE the wine flights (at a wine bar/restaurant!?), fumbled/bumbled, stunk. Other than that (I know) we enjoyed. I started out not liking this place. The atmosphere is "black" like a cheap tav. Many of the clientele are wearing t-shirts, shorts, and flip flops. The waiters are covered with tattoos. However, the "by the glass" wine list has excellent choices and the tattooed server was thoroughly versed in the wines. The dinner was really delicious. My wife and I both had rack of lamb and started with a strawberry, goat cheese and walnut salad. All excellent. This restaurant obviously caters to a very young crowd who never get beyond the cargo pants, ratty jeans, and flip flops -- probably the key employees from nearby high techs. It's worth a try if if you don't mind a casual atmosphere. Probably not OK for a wedding anniversary.

Service was so terrible that it totally ruined an absolutely adequate meal offering. We had a reservation for 9PM. We ordered drinks and food. We had a waiter that had no interest in serving us. After serving our food, he never came back to ask if everything was OK or if we needed to get something else. After flagging him down, we asked for more wine - his answer was that the bar was closed. Since when does a waiter not come to tell you that the bar is closing if we would like another drink. Horrible experience. We are done with this place.

I've eaten at Purple numerous times. The food is good and the wine list interesting. But my biggest complaint is always how noisy it is. I'm all for a festive atmosphere and don't want to eat in silence. But it's a problem when I can't hear my table companions even when the restaurant is fairly empty. It's gotten to where the food isn't worth it. Service is usually fairly good. But this particular time we had a server who wasn't very attentive. My wine glass stayed empty during much of the meal. She didn't check back to see how things were. Also, she bumped a knife off the table at the beginning of service and no one ever came by to replace it.

Arrived with a reservation from out of area made two weeks prior. Got shown to a table that is in a dark alcove. We came because of what the reviews said was the ambiance, good food and wine list. Arrived and was told the place is full as there were a number of groups and was shown to the bar and asked to wait for a table. Eventually shown a table. The food is mediocre and the only staff that showed he or she wanted to be there was the wine steward. There are far too many good restaurants to go back to purple. Most places have decent wine lists now and much better food AND ambiance I heard Purple was fun when it opened but it has appeared to have lost it's way.

Two of us met -- one from Seattle, the other from Redmond, to catch up and enjoy wonderful wine and fabulous food. We found both at Purple Cafe. We started with Royal Kir and crispy chardonnay followed by amazing Halibut and crisp salads. One order of succotash was plenty with even some left over to carry home. No room for dessert. We'll be back. Staff was excellent; much quieter outside than in. Thanks all.

I've had off and on success with Purple. Tonight was great. The chopped salad is among the best of its kind (still). The special risotto was "different", in a good way. More like rice with chicken and tomatoes, than creamy risotto, but I'd recommend it. Purple has apparently discontinued its 1/2 price Sunday wine night (frown), but you can still bring a special bottle here with no corkage fees (enthusiastic smile).

Purple is trying really hard to be an upscale, wine-centered bar with good food. It succeeds partly, but is absurdly overpriced. Given the quality of food, the prices are absurdly high. Starter: Bruschetta. Four cracker-sized pieces of bread with basil, cheese, and cheap balsamic for $11. It was, at best, mediocre. My entrée: Veggie burger & fries. The burger was simply bad. It was mushy, and had the consistency of thick mashed potatoes. I only finished it because I paid so much for it and was hungry. Wife's entrée: Pasta with basil pesto. It was dripping with olive oil and tasted very greasy. I can easily make better at home out of a jar. Overall: good wine selection doesn't make up for bad food. Especially at the high prices.
