Diner Reviews
  • "Three of us ate at Puritan & Company Wednesday night for the first time. All of the food was delicious. I had the pan roasted fluke with spring succotash, fennel and guanciale; my husband had the roasted duck with mushroom, sweet potato and pear; and our friend had the roasted chicken with peas, carrots, quinoa, and onion. All were fantastic! Appetizers were Island Creek and Wellfleet oysters, deviled crab biscuits, smoked bluefish pate and swordfish salami. All were delicious and the service was impeccable. The room is really funky in an Inman Square casual way. I highly recommend it."

  • "One of our go-to places, Puritan is great. Amazing food, really good service, a great little wine list and a cool vibe. Love it!"

  • "had a nice brunch, beautiful restaurant, highlight was 'church' cocktail! highly recommended!"

  • "Our food was good but everything was overpriced. Oysters for $3 each? too pricey. My son was there once before with friends and said later in the evening it gets crowded and is a fun place. Lots going for it."

  • "My friends and I went for a birthday dinner. We arrived and promptly seated. We were introduced to the waitress. Which at that time we were informed that on Tuesday nights they have dollar oysters. We also were informed that on Monday through Wednesday they have a $40 prefixed menu. Both a great deal. The food was a wonderful farm to table concept with delicious in season vegetables and a slight spin on the ordinary. Highly recommend the Waygu beef dish, bluefish pâté was very tasty with homemade crackers. Love that this place is in walking distance to me!"

  • "Excellent food, great service, delicious cocktails. I always leave Puritan & Co feeling extremely satisfied (and usually extremely full because I can't stop eating their food). I also love their farm-to-table cuisine and focus on local, sustainable ingredients. Because of this, their menu is always changing with the seasons so you always get to try something new. Definitely one of the best eateries in the greater Boston area. Highly recommended."

  • "I went back in the same week I thought the food was so good. The gouger for $2.00 was exceptional, all the entrees were well prepared and flavorful. I had the duck-not greasy or cloying and perfectly cooked. The bass had a crispy skin but was moist and flavorful. The salad wasn't anything special and the caramel pudding was sweet and delicious. One bite was enough. For the moment I'm sold."

  • "Great food, vegetarian dish (risotto) was awesome! Would definitely go back. Service was a little lacking but food made up for it!"

  • "Food, cocktails, wine list, service, ambiance... It was all great. I know the chef from garden at the cellar. This is another great spot. But Puritan is just a step above. Can't wait to go back!"

  • "While the restaurant was a bit chilly on a cold evening, and the lights a tad too bright for this patron, Puritan & Company is a welcome addition to the dining scene in Inman Square. I had the wing of skate entrée - delicious. Nice, casual, comfortable spot."

  • "We loved the ambiance and comfort. Our first courses were oysters, a salad of baby greens and the wild mushrooms with an egg; very tasty, as was the cocktail. Then we SAT waiting our main for 40 minutes which was an under seasoned and un-crispy skate and watery turnips. I couldn't get much of it down. Pretty disappointing. I would try the lace again though; maybe it was an off night?"

  • "Great vide, great food, drinks section is very good and the ambience in this restaurant is excellent. The restaurant style is very nice, service was friendly & relaxed. We are going back within 3 weeks as we had a great night. Highly recommend the Puritan & Company"

  • "I really loved Puritan & Co. The food was delicious and the service good. I had the Skate Wing, it was very tender and flavorful. I had the Buffalo Mozzarella appetizer which tasted extremely fresh. For dessert I had the Lemon Tart. Everything was delicious! Highly recommend Puritan!"

  • "The food did not fit the bill of this very expensive restaurant. The potatoes were not cooked, still hard. My plate came with a sauce on the bottom that overwhelmed the fish and vegetables. But by far the most annoying thing was the wait service hovering around, and kept filling our water glasses over and over. Really, as soon as the glass was half full, someone rush in and filled it, not necessary. Also, my husband ordered a martini, and usually it is nice to have if come before the meal. This was not the case....it came after our dinner....not good timing. We won't bother with this one again. Thank you."

  • "Food was excellent - our group tried just about every appetizer on the menu and thought they were all excellent. I recommend the sea scallop crudo and the swordfish pastrami. For the main course, the golden bass was also a great dish. Atmosphere was great, place had a good, fun vibe and our server knew what he was doing - he offered several wine pairings when asked and made menu recommendations. I definitely recommend Puritan & Co!"

  • "Everything was fantastic. The food was excellent - too many great choices for the three of us to try. We will have to return soon to try what we missed."

  • "My wife and I went here for our anniversary, and they poured us champagne to wish us a happy anniversary. In addition, though, the food was excellent. Although chicken might seem a pedestrian choice, you should absolutely try it -- it's perfectly cooked and amazingly flavorful. The steak tartare, as well, was a mouth-watering (literally—the cornichons gave it a nice tartness) starter."

  • "All around fantastic! We ate WAY more than we should have, but wanted t tyry just about eberything on the menu.... and I think just about did. The bass was outstanding (and Ive had a lot of bass); all of the first courses were remarkable - the fried oysters and wild nmushroom and fram egg wre standouts.... The Cambridge Apothecary cocktail was really something special. Dessert YUM. Our waiter was so knowledable, great service and really cared about the product and what he was doing. Hats off!"

  • "The classy, country cottage, old New England vibe works perfectly in this Cambridge dining spot. My wife and I were both impressed by the top-notch decor of the restaurant. We ate brunch and both of us enjoyed our food immensely. Their inviting pastry table in the middle of the dining area looked too good to pass up. We started with a Boston cream donut and a delicious croissant. The croissant was quite possibly the best we've ever had. The buttery layers just melted in your mouth. After the baked goods I had the hash with perfectly cooked over easy eggs and my wife tried the griddle cakes (pancakes). She's a bit of a breakfast connoisseur and ranked the griddle cakes in the top three in her lifetime. A great experience all around."

  • "We have a wonderful dinner at Puritan and Company. Great vibe, lots of people but not noisy like some restaurants can be. Appreciated the valet parking whih is available on weekends. We started with a cocktail - thaw in the straw which was bourbon, honey, ginger beer and it was great. Ordered deviled crab biscuits off the snack menu which were really good. Tried the swordfish pastrami which was unique and great. For entrees the waygu sirloin and the duck and both would delicious. Dessert was the citrus tart which was a perfect ending- deconstructed tart- slices of fresh grapefruit and oranges around tart- unique and light. Would highly recommend everything we tried and will go back again!"

  • "Food not as good as for previous visits, artic char was just ok but meals did not have the same special twist as before"

  • "Although the restaurant has a lot of decor charm, the service and the food was not impressive. We waited longer than we should have for service and actual drinks to be served. When food order was finally taken, it took a short time to come out which made us wonder how much was prepared in advance.... We had steak and pork chop respectively - both underacheiving with little flavor. Steak was grizzly and pork chop was undercooked to the point of my wondering if I would feel okay that night! There are so many wonderful restaurants in the Boston area, we will not be back to this one."

  • "Went to Puritan to celebrate my entrance into the 40s and it was a wonderful experience. We were stuck in traffic and with a quick call and no fuss, we were moved to a slightly later time with our table intact. Service was great with water glasses being refilled regularly and the staff checking in on us without being intrusive. The food was the star! The wagyu beef tartare was a wonderful rendition of the dish. Our mains were just the right portion. My DC's duck was really nicely done with crisp skin and moist meat. My pork chop was good, but the fat needed to be rendered a little bit more from the meat. Dessert was amazing accompanied by a carafe of beautifully brewed coffee. A wonderful night! Thank you, Puritan & Company!"

  • "The drinks were terrific. The grilled octopus and the ribs were both delicious appetizers. The sirloin steak was perfect and one of the best I've ever had. Can't forget the rolls, they're awesome, too. Next time I'm in town, I'll be back."

  • "for starters we had salt-roasted pears with mozzarella, walnuts & brown butter - really nice but overpriced and the wagyu beef tartare - was good but description said it is accompanied by Brioche. the slim toast of regular bread slices were not exactly what we expected for "brioche". for entrees we all had the wagyu sirloin steak with potato, broccoli & egg sauce this was excellent! overall very nice food & atmosphere"

  • "I really enjoyed this place. I thought the food was excellent and I loved the space. I was glad to see that there was plenty of room between the tables instead of sitting in the lap of my fellow diners. My girlfriend and I the gourgeres, winter salad, roasted chicken, smoked mushroom carbonara, and the chocolate and hazelnut torte. The gourgeres and salad were ok but the chicken, carbonara and torte were what sold us. A carbonara presented a little small for a pasta dish but we had no problem leaving full and happy! We will definitely be back to check out the rest of their menu or for brunch."

  • "Came here for my anniversary. Wonderful food (prime rib night on Sundays, do it) and wonderful service from our server, I don't remember her name but very friendly and wore glasses with brown hair. My water was kept full and they had great super local beers (it is very rare to find Night Shift and Idle Hands on tap). Great atmosphere and interior design."

  • "This was our second time at Puritan & Co. and it was a great experience like the last. The swordfish pastrami app and pork chop entree were imaginative and perfectly seasoned and cooked. What I really love about this restaurant is the passion for food and drink the entire staff has. Our server was lively and energetic about each course. On a busy Saturday, the executive chef came right out to our table to check on our meal and even sat for a moment to tell us some stories of their last year and what they have planned for the future. It's little personal things like that that make this restaurant so special."

  • "I recently dined here and really enjoyed my meal. The 'snacks' to start with a killer rhubarb cocktail were great; mackerel pate and smoked salmon on mini biscuits, yum! We then got a delicious pork pate small plate and a split a perfectly cooked chicken breast (although we were told it was a 1/2 chicken including the leg, but on received only the breast) it was so moist and delicious, that it made up for it! I really enjoyed the rustic feel inside the space, and the long bar where we got to see into the kitchen and watch it all happen. Will definitely go back!"

  • "Incredibly interesting food (bold flavors and combinations you have not had) and excellent service. What more can you ask for. This was my second time and it was just as great as the first."

  • "Everything about our experience was great. We sat at an amazing window table, we loved the view of other diners toasting wine glasses and enjoying themselves. Every dish we ordered was great, and i will go back to order everything else i didn't get the first time. It was a totally peaceful night, and i am so happy that puritan is in cambridge ."

  • "Great food and a cool ambiance. I wouldn't say it's my favorite place. You can tell food is super fresh and I love the fact that it is local and it can get a beer from Everett for example. Food is indeed a bit pricey, but the wine is very pricey. I was disappointed to not sure more reasonable wines. There are plenty of wines out there that are fabulous at better prices. So this was disappointing. They did have nice beer on tap. If I could afford to go here more often I would, because it's around the corner from my house. However, it wouldn't be my go to place. But I recommend to try it for sure."

  • "I loved the decor and atmosphere, our server (she really added to the experience!) and of course the food! We shared many appetizers instead of getting main dishes, and they were very good and it was fun to get to sample many dishes since it was our first time there. The rolls were amazing too! Hot with salt on top… slathered with butter made them mouth watering! I am also not a drinker but I was tempted to try one of their special drinks (hay in the straw?) and it was delicious!"

  • "Amazing mushrooms here. Drinks were great. Wonderful creative food. However, my steak was under seasoned with salt and I couldn't get the waiter to come over. Wait staff needs to be more attentive. I also had to work to get a glass of wine with my steak, another annoyance. Service matters!"

  • "First time here for us, although we have enjoyed Will's prior restaurants. We arrived about 5:40 (had 6pm reservations), parked on the street (although valet parking is available a block away), and the restaurant almost filled during the next half hour (on a Sat eve). Service was attentive throughout. Nice creative menu options for appetizers and entrees; our selections were superb. Creative desserts as well and good coffee. We'll be back."

  • "The gougeres to start were incredible, and we both had excellent entrees and cocktails as well. The restaurant had a great ambience and energy, but our table still managed to feel quiet and intimate. Great service and all-around experience."

  • "I wanted to love this place so so much. I have been walking by it on my way to and from Christina's (that ice cream place is fantastic). So I saved the place to go on my anniversary, and I have to say, I am disappointed. The ambiance is nice. The mason jar lights and the upholstery on the benches were really nice. It has a rustic farm-like feel with the decor. The prices and the food quality did not match. At least the dinner rolls were warm but my boyfriend's duck was cold inside. I understand you have to rest the duck after cooking it. But not rest it to the point it's cold inside. My bass was good but the sauce was too citrusy for my taste. The experience was forgettable and I would go for a casual brunch or lunch next time."

  • "My husband and I had a fabulous time together at Puritan. The service was polished, professional and warm. Our server allowed us to enjoy our evening together all the while providing excellent service. We had several plates, an outstanding bottle of wine but unfortunately, no room for dessert. I recommend sharing the corned beef ribs with your companion; never mind the mess, the meat falls off the bone and melts in your mouth. Don't forget the mushrooms with a runny egg or the amazing fresh oysters on the half shell. Octopus and pork belly is a must have too. You can't go wrong at Puritan& Co. Great job to Chris Yorty, Chef Gilsonite and team!"
