My girlfriend and I went here not knowing that the kitchen was helmed by Will Gilson, but as soon as we looked over the menu, it was apparent that the Chef knew what he was doing. The portions were perfect, all the flavors perfectly balanced with the right amount of umami, sweetness, and acidity. Hands down the best place either of us have been in a while. Not only was the food excellent, but the ambiance was perfect. The staff was gracious, warm, and funny. The restaurant was completely booked, but nothing seemed rushed and it was still quiet. It's rare to see a neighborhood restaurant that achieves this level of dining. The experience was much like that of a fine dining establishment, but with all the pomp replaced by the comfort and familiarity of a simple neighborhood place.

Puritan and Co delivered. Lucked out w parking across the street at a meter and walked into a large, open but warm room with high ceilings, comfortable seating and european decor and feel. It was an anniversary dinner and they started us with comp champagne (au Bon climat, nice). Appetizers were wild mushroom with farm egg, arugula and smoked brioche for her and oysters for me. Both fantastic. The hangar steak and pork T bone entrees were also incredibly good and healthy portions. Accompanied by the red burgundy and Nebbiolo, respectively turned out to be well balanced choices. Dessert was a spiced bread pudding that was perfect. Well done all around and not too bad on the wallet!

We're frequent customers who wish this place was around when we got married (because it would be the perfect neighborhood spot for a small wedding where you want amazing food & drink to be the highlight). Surprisingly, during this visit, upon a quick scan of the menu, we weren't particularly excited (we usually have trouble narrowing down what we're going to order) but, as usual, everything was amazing. Outstanding starters and mains -- and don't even get me started on the Parker House rolls (bring your appetite). The dessert was a perfect way to end the evening -- a perfect sweet potato panna cotta on a cornmeal cookie. Not sure why we were doubtful in the first place -- Puritan & Co. never disappoints!

I read the reviews and had some concerns about coming here. It was ok, not great. I'm not a big eater, keep that in mind. I ordered the bluefish pate, was great and good app portion, ordered the lamb special for $42 to split w/friend who ordered the soup. The soup came in a flat bottom bowl, impossible to eat from and the soup was really pathetic. It was a small portion of broth with a handful of fresh corn kernels and a few other tiny bits of vegetables for I believe $16. Ridiculous. Then, the lamb came, it was room temp. Asked server if normal and she said yes, it's made earlier in the day and they cut it and serve it as ordered. I wish she had given us that detail before ordering. The meat was tasty but dry. Again, very small portion.

I've always liked having dinner at Puritan and Co, but just had the chance to have brunch there for the first time. The atmosphere is warm and cozy. Food is delicious and well-executed. And I especially love the pastries. I would recommend anyone who wish to have brunch there to make a reservation in advance and the place can get quite busy during the weekend. I made a reservation in advance and though the tables were almost full, we were seated right away.

The food is the reason to come to Puritan. The menu is original with unique offerings. I love the attention to the vegetables. Everything is fresh, well, prepared, and lovingly presented. Our oysters were so fresh, it felt like they just walked in to the restaurant with us. We had a festive dessert presentation to celebrate a birthday, including a candle on a small separate plate. It was a subtle presentation, with flair, but not overwhelming... just our style. It was a very festive evening.

My girlfriend and I had a special evening out at Puritan and Co with her parents, who were visiting town. We enjoyed the unusual menu items (such as fried pig's head), the fresh, local ingredients, and the artistry of the plating, thanks to sous chef Ryan Quigley. We will definitely be back to this gem of Inman Square.

Puritan and Company is a fantastic restaurant! With so many new restaurants getting on the small plates and charcuterie boards its sometimes hard to find good quality food even though the menus sound fantastic. This is not so with Puritan and Company, their food is wonderfully creative and the execution is perfect. We shared the smoked bluefish pate, the swordfish pastrami, the cauliflower flan, and the dry aged steak. All were too amazing for words but we were really blown away by the swordfish and the cauliflower flan. Both I would highly recommend. Also, the service was excellent.

We came here for our 1 year anniversary September 2013, and repeated it for the two year anniversary. Everything about the experience is / was outstanding. This place is our absolute favorite in all of Boston, and we've been to a lot of restaurants. The food is fresh (farm-supported ingredients) in interesting and flavorful preparations. The service is friendly, and the staff is very accomodating. The only thing we have to do differently is come back sooner!

We went for brunch this time and although it was good, I much prefer going there for dinner. I order the griddlecakes and my husband had a breakfast sandwich. It would have been nice to have a piece of fresh fruit or something on the plate too. The griddlecakes came with applesauce which was just okay (not the preserves that I had imagined). I think the brunch is better if you order a basket of the pastries which looked great.

We came in for Sunday brunch with high hopes, given their status of Best of Boston brunch for 2014. We weren't disappointed. The cocktails were great - I especially loved the 'church' - and the food was tasty. Of particular note were the pastries (go for the pinwheels and banana bread), the steak and eggs, and the duck confit hash.

It was quite expensive and just "ok". I'm surprised this got the 'Best of' from Boston Magazine. Service was hot/cold throughout the night, my steak was tough and over-salted. Dessert (coconut cake) seemed like small stale pieces of Angel Food cake. My wife had the beep soup and cod and thought both were great.

This didn't disappoint either of us (one half of the party being a chef, the other being married to one...). A short menu, but everything we had was a gem, delicately and perfectly prepared. Our waiter was superb and appropriately attentive. It did take a bit of time for our main courses to come (on a Tuesday night), but it was tolerable. What isn't tolerable is the noise level. There seems to be only one table in the entire restaurant at which you can sit and actually carry on a reasonable conversation. We were fortunate enough to have it, but even then, my wife and I both left the restaurant with sore throats, and they certainly weren't from the delicious food. Come on, folks, they still make acoustic tile, don't they?

Puritan & Company is hands-down one of the best restaurants in the Greater Boston Area. The food is always delicious, the service is excellent, and the prices are very reasonable, especially considering the quality. I love that their menu is seasonal and so you always get to try something new. Particularly exciting is their "Farmer's Market Mondays" dinners that happen during the warmer months. If you do go here for brunch, make sure to try their cashew sticky bun. It's so dangerously, spectacularly, amazingly delicious you will never crave any other pastry again.

I've visited twice now, once for dinner and once for brunch and both times were average at best. I had vowed not to visit again after the dinner experience of poorly seasoned food, slow service and disregard for my feedback during the visit. However, they were just voted best brunch in Boston by Boston Magazien so I figured I'd give them another chance. The baked goods were dry, especially the monkey bread which is what they're apparently known for. The eggs liked seasoning and their potatoes had black spots and weren't fully cooked. They have a limited brunch drink menu also. I can't see a reason for another visit here. Save your money and go to Bergamot instead!

We thank the folks at Puritan for being patient with our tardy arrival (we telephoned ahead). We planned a get-together brunch and were impressed with the pastries. Our main dishes, one order pork hash, two orders scrambled eggs with cheddar and broccoli . While not generous portion wise, the servings were sufficient. While we enjoyed our meals. They were not the type of meal that lingers on one's mind afterwards. Fresh and well executed, but not overall impressive. Please Puritan, do not butter our toast! Overall we were not disappointed. We will try Purtitan for dinner and report back.

Puritan and Co. was the best restaurant I've been to in a while. It was our anniversary and we switched to Puritan from another restaurant at the last minute. I am so glad we did. The menu was manageable with great choices but not overwhelming. We were greated with a glass of Rose champagne and the service went up from there! We started with the tempura lobster with deep fried brussel sprouts and it was amazing! I could have eaten two more orders. We also shared the bluefish pate, lamb belly, scallops and cavatelli, all out of this world! I look forward to returning

Chose P+C for the reputation but were disappointed. Service was great, presentation was great; atmosphere was decent; food was "meh." And really, that's what counts. Had the duck liver mousse to start, ricotta cavatelli, and seared cod. Nothing was the matter with any dish, just not up to the foodie standards that the restaurant projects.

I love Puritan & Co. This was my third or fourth meal there, and the decor and vibe are lovely and appealing. The food is always uber fresh and uber creative. I once sat at the chef's table and watched Wil Gilson himself, which was a treat. The menu changes, but when smoked bluefish pate is there it is an absolute must. Most recently our group started with oysters and pate (the duck liver was also amaze-balls). Everyone thoroughly enjoyed their main courses -- ricotta pasta, skirt steak, cod -- and everyone commented on how delicious the rolls are. The server seemed a bit bored, a bit impatient perhaps. I also recall a birthday dinner (mine!) where no rolls were served because they had run out! How???
