A word from Puritan & Company
Puritan & Company serves modern American cuisine, with particular emphasis on traditional New England fare, and not without occasional excursions into other ethnic ingredients and styles. Our mainstays are ingredients sourced from farms we know and locally to the extent possible, and always a sense of fun.

Our dining room is a casual and fun place to dine. We love to share our excitement about the food and wine we serve like we would in our own home. Guests and their friends should feel comfortable in our friendly and even familial environment as we make our food and guest the number one focus.

  • "This is our fourth visit. We like it very much and the people who run it are nice. They take a credit card for a party of 6 and we had to cancel once (that afternoon)and they charged us and gave it "back" to us as a gift card at 25 dollars a head. So we wanted to use that up before we forgot we had it. Lo and behold they now take a credit card for a party of 4. We had to book with the credit card again. Only time available was 6:00--did that mean the restaurant was full at 6:00? NO. Totally empty. Which means that if we had had to cancel again they would have told us they couldn't "turn the table" and they would have issued us another GC for 100 dollars. Its not worth the hassel. Plans change sometimes. I won't book a table here again."

  • "I had high hopes after my first meal at Puritan. And, indeed, the fried oyster lettuce wraps and gougere were excellent. But the lamb sausage had a salty, off taste and the shrimp were bland. But the real problem was the main dish - pasta with peas. Frankly, it was so wildly over-salted that it was inedible. The salt completely masked all other flavors. Had I been with my wife only I would have sent it back. The service was friendly and knowledgeable but not very attentive. There were long waits on several occasions including waiting for my credit card to be returned."

  • "Just tried Puritan for the first time and wondered why we had been sooner. Early dinner for 3 on Tuesday (Oyster) night. Oysters were fresh and delicious (from Onset MA). Main courses were each perfect: a sliced flank steak, a pork chop that despite its heft managed to remain juicy, and a codfish dish. A not-too-sweet goat "cheesecake" or more properly a mousse, in a glass layered with fruit was prefect for sharing. Service was friendly but not obstusive. And yes, like a previous reviewer mentioned, the bartender even said goodnight and thank you when we left. Very long bar, also a raw bar, and plenty of seating at tables. Very attractive decor. We will definitely return."

Never going back. My teenage son said "it's ok for the place to look cool - but the food's the most important thing"."

  • "P&C was fantastic! We arrived right at 11:00 a.m. for our brunch reservation. There weren't many people when we arrived so we got a prime corner, booth seat. The restaurant was comfy and peaceful, yet vibrant at the same time. This was our second favorite meal in Boston (second only to Neptune Oyster). We had the corned beef hash and croissant breakfast sandwich; both were phenomenal. Then for "dessert" we shared a Boston cream donut that was decadent, but not too heavy. Drinks were constantly flowing and the whole meal prepared us for a fantastic final day in Boston."

  • "Everything about this establishment dips excellence. The whole place and staff clearly demonstrate a commitment to delivering a whole class dining experience and an attention to detail. The servers are wonderful, both knowledge and engaging. Never far away they never you never feel rushed but instead the demonstrate a level of care rarely seen in restaurants today. The food is sublime, yummy and extraordinary. The skate fish was the best I ever had!"

  • "I'm local in the Boston area but had not heard about Puritan until reading about them recently in the NY Times. It's a relaxed and friendly yet stylish venue, with excellent, creative food offerings and very knowledgeable wait staff. The team of co-owners/managers has high-end restaurant experience and was very hands-on during service on a Saturday night. They clearly show pride and passion in what they're doing. We plan to return."

  • "The menu and wine list are short and well selected items, fun combinations wonderfully put together. This menu is set up for sampling and discovery, rather than bulk feeding, but I hope you will give it a try. You can have raw bar, share a starter, enjoy a main and share another dessert, and not leave over stuffed, but satisfied, and really pleased at the cool dining experience you have had.   • "I loved Puritan & Co.! The decor was modern but had touches of the past. It was comfortable and the staff were very kind and inviting. Even the bartender greeted and thanked everyone as they came in and went out. The food was delicious- I got the duck. The portions are not big, as it is a gourmet menu, but I was satisfied with the roll, a small plate, and the duck dish. (Also split a dessert which was delicious.) The drinks were great, and I even went back later on that night with another friend to sit at the bar. This isn't the kind of place that I could eat all the time, since it is a little pricey, but it was worth spending a little more on a delicious and interesting meal. I'd love to go back some other time!"

  • "This is our first time, and likely our last. The food was not executed well enough to justify the price, and the wine is not cheap. I had the duck and although cooked just right at medium rare, it lacked flavor and finesse and the accompaniments were decent but unexciting. Someone had the red fish and it too, was lacking in flavor, which even the accompanying ramps could not enhance. And flavor does not equal salt. The only positive part of our evening was the energetic atmosphere which had the casual coolness where you can be comfortable dressed up or down."

  • "Made a 5:30 res for 4 people at 4:30 on a graduation Sunday and was happy just to get a table. Surprise! They have Prime Rib on Sundays! 3/4 of us had Prime Rib and it was the ballerest Prime Rib ever to Prime Rib!!! Had a 15oz cut with mashed and carrots. Other choices were baked or broccoli. Served with au jus, and a horseradish creme fraiche that was light and fraiche. Had a Sherry Negroni that changed my life a little bit. Bartender even delivered the drink to our table with a cheers and a smile! Desserts made to order. Shared a caramel vanilla pudding, hazelnut chocolate torte and a citrus lemon torte. All perfect. David was genuinely awesome, his recommendations were spot on. P.s. Sweet, buttery, warm, soft Parker House Rolls."

The drinks, hand-picked by super sommelier Josh Cole, include wonderful wines from small producers, brilliant beers, and inspired cocktails using fresh rhubarb, mint, cucumbers, and other fun ingredients from the farm. The service is also very polished while remaining warm and friendly. Our server also gave several excellent recommendations and was patient when we were slow to look over the menus. I liked the wine list (as French!), even though it's a little bit expensive (it's not that easy to find good wine at reasonable price). Overall, a really nice dining experience."

  • "We had high expectations for Puritan & Company because we are fans of the chef's (Will Gilson) family's Herb Lyceum in Groton, MA which put's on a dinner party style dinner on Saturday's. For the most part our expectations were met, the food is excellent. I had the redfish, my girlfriend had the rabbit, both of which were perfectly prepared. The only hiccup in the meal is that our chowder, which was also excellent BTW, came out moments after we were served our appetizers (oysters and crab biscuits). The restaurant is located in a fairly seedy part of Cambridge but don't let that put you off, it's one if the best restaurants in th Boston vicinity. "

They had a great drink and beer selection as well. The only misorder was the lamb entrée as the meat was very fatty and the sides were very bland.   • "Three of us ate at Puritan & Company Wednesday night for the first time. All of the food was delicious. I had the pan roasted fluke with spring succotash, fennel and guanciale; my husband had the roasted duck with mushroom, sweet potato and pear; and our friend had the roasted chicken with peas, carrots, quinoa, and onion. All were fantastic! Appetizers were Island Creek and Wellfleet oysters, deviled crab biscuits, smoked bluefish pate and swordfish salami. All were delicious and the service was impeccable. The room is really funky in an Inman Square casual way. I highly recommend it."
