Diner Reviews
  • "The mussels were practically raw and the flavor nonexistent. The sauce on a different platter was just salt and water; quite bland. I was expecting more especially for a place with a name like oyster bar. The oysters were good but that's just nature for you and where they come from. You'd have to be pretty bad to mess up a natural flavor."

  • "I have dined here frequently, usually every 2 months or so. They are very capable of handling special diets, and as a celiac I appreciated this. Wine selection is very good. Outdoor patios are lovely - perfect for a summer evening. My Nicoise salad took an hour and a half to receive! My friend's lobster pasta was VERY light on lobster. Waiter rarely checked on us. We had to ask for bread, side plates, and fill our own wine glasses. We mentioned the terribly long wait for two relatively straightforward dishes and the waiter claimed a large group caused the delay. Surely they would have known they had a large group that night and made the appropriate staff available... Good for a drink on a patio and some apps. Have dinner @ Trappo"

  • "The good was great. The service was great. Everything you're looking for in a great restaurant. the lobster pasta is absolutely delicious! I'm hungry again just thinking about it!"

  • "We enjoyed the whole experience, from the knowledgeable and friendly service to the delicious appetizers and now noteworthy entrees! Our eating restrictions were well-dealt with. We'd definitely come again!"

  • "The Distillery District is lovely. Pure Spirits was not. The lobster came out a bit under cooked. They also charge $2.50 for refills on sodas without telling you. A bit dishonest since my son's glass was not completely empty when the waiter took it to refill it."

  • "Everything was fantastic Arthur our server was amazing"

  • "We had a 6:30 pm dinner reservation at Pure Spirits and seats for an 8 pm play. At 7:15 pm we informed our server about the show and our main course arrived at 7:45 pm. Our dessert was served in a take-away box at 7:55 pm. The food was fine but we wish we had more time to savour it."

  • "Food good. Our server was not good at all not friendly didnt take the time to address us seem to always be in a rush."

  • "Friendly service, great location. A little expensive but considering you are dinning in the Distillery...it's to be expected. Overall, it was a pleasant experience."

  • "The food was up to the high standards we have come to expect from this restaurant..This was a pleasant surprise as some othe winterlicious restaurants have provided substandard fare."
    Dined on 7/12/2014
  • "Great! We had a wonderful summerlicious. Would strongly recommend the lobster pappardelle."
    Dined on 7/11/2014
  • "Bad, bad food. Starters was dried up and over peppered. Mains was tasteless. Dessert should have been warm and was not. Will not go back. Service tho was excellent and nice patio."
    Dined on 7/11/2014
  • "A $140 dinner for two was overpriced for the food we ate. A $12 blueberry mojito was robbery. Rib eye for $38 was cooked perfectly, but this was not a $38 piece of meat to begin with so no chef was going to save this meal! Great location, but so is every other restaurant in the Distillery District. The service was very good and the restaurant very clean, but once again so is every other restaurant we visited in this district."

  • "tasty, nice service, a beautiful spot. When we sent back an inedible plate the waiter was most gracious in replacing it."

  • "Have been to Pure Spirits a number of times previously and always had a good experience. However - this time we had a disinterested server and mediocre food. Not sure if it was the Summerlicious factor or not! Disappointing!"

  • "This place is great to sit on their patio, in the middle of the Distillery, and just people watch. Their food is great, I wouldn't say super creative, but it is very tasty. We went for summerlicious, so of course the price was reasonable. However, their regular menu seems like average pricing (not like the ridiculous Tappo next door)!"

  • "We waited 90min for our food then decided to leave - we would not recommend this place"
    Dined on 7/5/2014
  • "A very solid choice in the distillery district. Service was top notch and very professional. Timing was perfect as we were seeing two shows at Soulpepper and we got out in time for the second with no problems at all. Will definitely go back."

  • "We went during Bacardi festival. The line was massive but we has reservations so that don't matter in terms of getting in. Our food was really good! We defiantly loved it. The service was slow but I think we just had a waiter that was having an off day....we're all entitled to that. He tried his best but he took too long to see us (waited 25 min for a slice of cake and 20 min for him to greet us)"

  • "had a super time, albeit with 8 women (some being really quite oTT high maintenance) the staff remained stoic and lovely and very efficient. Thank you very much! Your Albarino on your menu was quite the hit - several of us have sourced it out at LCBO - tell your wine rep!"

  • "Food is good, service better. A good spot for pre-theatre dining"
    Dined on 7/3/2014
  • "Limited selection of oysters (the recommended special was not very good). We waited over an hour to get our main dishes. The mussels in my linguine had a funky taste and my husband's paella had a soury kick to it. The kids' meals however were brought out promptly and they enjoyed it. The server was really kind and apologetic about the wait. Didn't want to send the food back and wait another hour. Disappointed with the quality. Maybe our last visit there - too bad - I really liked this place in the past."
    Dined on 7/3/2014
  • "Appears to be a kitchen problem here. Good wait staff but unusually long times for food delivery. Pre-theatre rush is a problem they haven't solved. Other places have. Food isn't good enough to offset the consistent service shortfall-- have been here at least 10 times. Finally decided to record my disappointment."
    Dined on 7/3/2014
  • "The atmosphere was not unwelcoming but I didn't feel that it was welcoming either. Food took too long, esp for fish and chips and overcooked, so my lunch was hurried. The waiter was pleasant enough. My experience wasn't good enough to recommend to others but neither so bad that I would steer people away. May be it was an off day for everyone involved."
    Dined on 7/3/2014
  • "If you want fish or seafood this is the place to go - everything was delicious from apps to mains. Great oyster selection. Beat dish we had was the pappardelle with lobster and mushrooms."
    Dined on 7/2/2014
  • "Tried the bucket o'fish last time and the calamari most recently; there's way too much breading and not enough fishy goodness. Also the calimari were tough. I will steer clear next time. The chop salad remains a favorite, and we love the fries. Service is good; love the patio!"

  • "We lingered over a wonderful meal on the outdoor patio, soaking in the ambience of the District, and thinking we'd be back. Food was just right for the occasion. Have already been back once for a drink while wandering in the area."

  • "Had an opportunity to be downtown and was able to book a table even though it was pride week. Great time and food."

  • "Our experience at Pure Spirits was excellent. It is truly a neighbourhood gem. Our server was superb. She was professional and most accommodating. We let her know that we were attending the theatre at 8 p.m. She governed the service accordingly. The food was exceptional. The patio is fabulous and great for people watching. There is also adequate space between the tables. I will definitely be returning this summer."

  • "It's probably our 4th time going and every time it is the same - appetizers (including oysters) are VERY good but the main is just "good". the service continues to be outstanding and the ambiance (both indoors and out) are lovely. Will be back again."
    Dined on 6/28/2014
  • "We ordered 9 oz wine but were charged 12oz on the bill. We were not asked if we wanted dessert/tea/coffee and were brought the bill instead. Felt like they were rushing us to get the table filled for new customers. Food was good but the overall experience was far from outstanding."

  • "As we were celebrating a birthday - the weather, the service, the food was excellent and we could not have asked for better Highly recommend and will be back with more friends and family Keep up the good work"

  • "Before seeing a show at Soulpepper, it was an ideal spot to sit outside, share a bottle of wine, and share a few smaller dishes. Fried calamari is prepared in a lightly fried tempura style that was less greasy than usual and very tasty. The oysters were good. And the service was excellent."
    Dined on 6/27/2014
  • "We had a wonderful lunch here. Lovely big patio, lots of umbrellas for shade. Beautiful pots of flowers. Great summer spot. Fresh oysters were delicious. Great service too!"
    Dined on 6/26/2014
  • "We had a great lunch - my dining partner had the mussels which were plentiful and and, according to him, very delightful. I had an excellent lamb sandwich. The menu has a good variety of items which makes it easy to recommend this restaurant to others. There is a good sized patio dining area with lots of shade area. Service was a bit slow to start, but vastly improved once there was someone available to attend to us."

  • "Great little place. Menu was limited but then again who wants so many choices where it would be difficult to decide. Many seafood dishes but very little chicken or beef. Love the gluten free options that are clearly indicated. Service was good but a little slow at times. Server was friendly, pleasant and polite. All servers were neatly dresses in clean and wrinkle free uniforms. Restaurant was clean and ready for business. Booth seating was comfortable enough however the centre seating had metal chairs that did not appear comfortable. Had a good visit."

  • "I ended up going to Pure Spirits two nights in a row and I liked the ambiance (hence going there twice). The location is great, right in the heart of the Distillery District and the staff were also good. However, I found the dining experience inconsistent. On the first night, we were not offered bread before dinner, but were offered it on the second night. Both nights our table ordered the sweet potato fries. On the first night, I had to ask for aioli for dipping, but on the second night our order came with a spicy aioli. Despite, the inconsistency, I would go back as overall we had a good experience."

  • "We arrived on time and noticed a long line outside waiting for a table. We were immediately taken to our table and were even asked if outdoor seating was preferred which we liked and thought could be a good evening. 20 minutes passed after we were seated and no one came to our table to asked at least if we wanted some water. Finally a server looked at us and told us she was calling our server and brought some water, we got the menu and were never offered the oysters menu which was the reason for us to go there. We asked but got more excuses. We gave up and just pick food from the menu. Food was ok nothing to remember or be amazed. I had dinner there before and had a good experience but this time just made me think not to go back ever."

  • "I was worried about poor service and average food, but was pleasantly surprised. The food was great, service was excellent!. Would recommend getting a booth inside since the tables outside were metal and seemed uncomfortable to sit on and it was cool that evening. Had the oysters and BC halibut, very good. would recommend this place."
