The food was great. We ordered the chicken tikka masala (my favorite) and the tandoori mango chicken. We expected the mango chicken to have some sort of sauce but maybe the tandoori should have tipped us off. Never the less it was good. Mango chunks with the chicken may have jazzed it up a little as the mango was not a prominent feature of the dish. The place is really warm and welcoming. While the staff was busy there were very friendly and attentive. We love this place.

I have been to Punjab once before, and have enjoyed their food. I especially like their Lamb Tikka Masala. I also enjoyed the appetizer Shrimp Poori, their Naan bread, and Basmati rice. The atmosphere is a bit noisy, but I enjoyed the decor. The only real negative is they need to improve on the service. Not once did the waiter come back to ask us if we needed anything else. Also, after a long wait to receive the check, we had to flag down the waiter.

  • The best Indian restaurant
    OpenTable Diner Since 2008

The best Indian restaurant in the Cambridge/Somerville/Arlington/Belmont area. Everytime my wife and I agree to go out to eat, the first place I suggest is Punjab. I could eat there every day.day. We tend to stick to what we love the most, which includes: chicken chaat (a terrific cold appetizer), potato naan, chicken tikka masala (I've eaten chicken tikka masala at dozens of Indian restaurants across the world, Punjab's is the tastiest I've found). But veering off the tried-and-true path rarely results in disappointment. If you don't hate Indian food, you will love this place! Ambiance is energetic and has a unique, slightly upscale feel too. The food is fantastic, especially the curries and tikka masalas.

The food is always fantastic at Punjab. Their portions are just right, and the seating is comfortable. Service is good without hovering, and since they moved two doors down in 2008 the space is quietly stylish. On this night we all chose water instead of cocktails or wine and the server did not change behavior toward us. Many servers depend on drinks to increase the bill, AKA their tips. Some get upset when drink orders do not materialize, so I was very happy that our server did his job correctly and did not bring our night down. Punjab is an A+!

We have lived in the area for 5 years and several people have said we should eat here ... and we were a little disappointed. I don't like Indian restaurants that offer to cook any dish any (chilli) temperature - hardly authentic. The appetizer was interesting and seemed fresh, but the lamb main course was chewy and had clearly been added to the sauce cooked and heated just prior to arriving at the table.

Punjab is one of my favorite Indian restaurants in the Boston area. Although it carries mostly what you'd expect an Americanized Indian restaurant to serve, there are a bunch of specials on the menu that are usually quite good. It's within walking distance to my house, located right in Arlington Center, so that helps quite a bit too.

I absolutely love Punjab's food. It is the best Indian restaurant in all of the Boston area. The ambience/decor also is very special, especially on a cold night because it is such a warm environment. Our server was pleasant and allowed me to try out their sangria, and said if I didn't like it, I could get something else. I ended up choosing another drink (I'm a huge sangria fan and I didn't like theirs, but that is my opinion, you might like it) and it was kind of him to allow me that flexibility. My only negative thought from that evening is that it took almost an hour for us to get our entrees. It was a very busy night, but no one told us why it was taking so long. FYI if you go on a busy night, don't expect to have a quick meal.

We had a guest from Colorado who was familiar with Indian food. She raved about Punjab. We told her our impression is that Punjab has one of the best reputations in Metro Boston. My only complaint is that the entrees were luke warm when brought to the table. There were candle heater warmers that raised the temperature somewhat, but the food could have been hotter. The wine was listed as a 2002 - which i quietly doubted because I usually find that restaurants list their wine selectons as older than they actually are. I was Very pleased to find it was indeed 2002, and a very nice addition to out meal.

Been here several times. The food this time was excellent, as always, but the dessert course needs a re-haul. When we asked for a dessert menu, waiter gave us one menu to share for all 5 of us! Then, they did not have 3 of the 5 desserts ordered. The cake that was served was still frozen. The service slowed to a crawl after we asked for dessert. Also, the booth table at which we were seated had some bad acoustics. It was very hard to hear each other at the table. Usually, though we love the decor and ambiance. I think this was just a bad spot in the restaurant acoustically.

The waitstaff has always been a little rude on each of the 5 or 6 times I've had dinner there. They get the orders right, keep drinks full and server properly, but they don't seem to like the idea of serving people. Very few smiles, and a bit of a haughty attitude. However, the decor and food mostly make up for the attitude problems of the staff.

Its a nice big space and the food was good but the service, oh dear! They brought our main course to us while we were still eating our appetizer, and we don't eat slowly! Then when I complained our "sever" didn't like it, we got no apology and he basically pulled a face for the rest of the night. His level of service was well below what I would expect in even the most basic and down market eatery. An example of this being the dessert course. We only received one menu and when he came to take the order he spoke to me only, he didn't even ask my wife if she wanted anything, awful! It was a shame the dreadful service ruined our meal as this is the kind of place I would gladly go back to time and again but not now. I would not want a re
