I thought everything about the meal was amazing, except my entree (the cod,) which was a huge disappointment. Part of it was just my taste because I don't really like sweet entrees, but why did they put baby corn in a dish in the middle of the summer when there's abundant fresh, delicious, sweet Jersey corn available? And where were the razor clams? I also didn't really care for the texture of the fish (poached?) Otherwise, I really enjoyed the dining experience and would recommend it to others.

My high school friends and I meet once a month just to keep in touch. Yesterday, we tried Pumpkin and could not stop talking about it. The car ride home we were discussing all the flavors and how beautiful the plates were arranged. Everything that we ordered was just so amazing that we all shared our food with one another. If you have a chance to go and eat at Pumpkin you should for sure go!

My 6th or 7th time here over the course of 4 years, and it's better than ever. Exquisite plating! Almost too beautiful to eat. It's not molecular gastronomy with it's scientific architectonics of food (which I tend to appreciate, but not love), but there's something inventive and inviting about the cuisine at Pumpkin with its various streusels and gastriques, fresh seasonal veggies, and local sourced meats. I absolutely loved the Pinot Noir duck entree. I went back twice in one week: once with a date for a romantic night out and again with a group for a going away party. It worked for both occasions. Definitely headed back again soon.

I've been to Pumpkin several times and have always loved it, but this time I was a bit disappointed. They seem to have introduced a new "experimental" cooking to their menu. Maybe I'm not sophisticated enough to appreciate it, but I much prefer their previous style. I probably won't return unless they switch back.

I went to Pumpkin BYOB on their Sunday tasting menu night. It was outstanding. Each course was uniquely presented and had an excellent flavor. None of the courses was too big (a good quality in a 5-course meal.) The service was a little slow, but that was to allow you to digest and talk at a leisurely pace with other diners. It was an outstanding experience and a great value for the money and I will go back in a heartbeat.

The food was spectacular, however, the service and ambiance left a little to be desired. The dining room is extremely crowded, laid out to accomodate as many diners as possible with little thought to their comfort or ability to enjoy their conversation. Service was slower than I expected, and little things like receiving bread after our first course had arrived, or sitting with empty plates in front of us for quite some time before they were removed were minor annoyances. Overall, I would return, but for the price I would expect a slightly higher level of service. Again, no complaints whatsoever regarding the actual meal, which was fantastic.

Fantastic food, great combination of fresh, local ingredients and a truly beautiful presentation. Each plate is a work of art and worth the time to appreciate the effort it took to put the dish together! Plus you get the payoff when you put your first bite in your mouth...a taste sensation. All I wanted to do was examine each and every ingredient, figure out how to put the right combination together, but in the end I just followed my instincts an trust the chef. The wait staff was personable, friendly and very accommodating, but a little stretched. Timing of each dish was just a bit too long and the whole experience would have been enhanced by a better pace between dishes. A great experience and highly recommended.

  • Sunday Tasting Menu a Must-Try!
    OpenTable Diner Since 2009
    Dined on 7/17/2011
I've been to Pumpkin twice now for their five-course $35 Sunday tasting menu, and both times they have created culinary masterpieces. Everything has been delicious and it's hard to choose a favorite course. However, on this most recent visit, their soup stood out: the server poured a creamy chilled avocado-sweet pea puree over a delightful mix of assorted elements in the bottom of the bowl, including a sprig of fresh coriander flowers and a sorbet. The play of texture, temperature, and flavor was fascinating, and each bite was a delightful suprise! The servers were attentive and well versed in all of the elements in the dishes and every course was artfully presented and created with great attention to detail. Hard to beat!

Went to Pumpkin for gf's birthday. Extremely small slightly cramped. Innitially there was some confusion regarding my reservation name and it took a good bit of time for a waitress to come over to help but nothing significant. Now for the food. Appetizers - shrimp and the escargot. Both tasted good but overall were somewhat underwhelming. Had a nice variety of sauces on the plate (3/5). The entrees were a different story. I got the duck (jus, pinot noir sauce, coffee crumble) which really was delicious. Duck was cooked great and included both breast and dark meat. Awesome. GF got the sirlion which I found slightly tough (sirloin not a great cut of meat IMO) but she licked the plate clean which she never does. Tons of sauces 5/5

Normally I love Pumpkin always give it positive raves but this particular trip was disappointing (bound to happen). I thought the food was a bit lack-luster (gispacho soup, and lamb). For an expensive place (two apps, two entrees = $90, cash only) I expect more. What really got me this trip was my entrée. I saw an appetizer (lamb) that I liked and asked for that as my entree. The server asked if I would like to get an entrée size portion for $26 (app was $8 I believe). I said not a problem. I know Pumpkin has small portions, and am perfectly fine with this, but the portion on this plate was abyssmal. I am pretty sure I got the regular app, even though I paid more than three times the cost.

We have dined at Pumpkin probably 8 times over the last couple of years and it has always been one of our favorites. However ,our visit this past Saturday night fell short. The food was very good, but we found the choices limiting on the menu. And no specials, just "special" side dishes. Which were just okay. The service was horrible. They were VERY crowded. Every table was booked. And every time we asked our server for something she acted as if she was doing us a huge favor to wait on us. She really ruined the experience. We always recommend Pumpkin to friends, but now I am hesitant.
