The Pump Room restaurant offers reasonably priced, delicious favorites in a relaxed, comfortable, and exciting environment. The new food concept was created by Three Star Michelin rated and 2011 James Beard award winner Jean-Georges Vongerichten. Original Pump Room menu classics were reinvented and recreated by Jean-Georges providing his special touch and amazing style. He will support local purveyors and regional flavors.Offerings in the bar include small plates as well as local and international draught and bottled beer;and specialty cocktails crafted by Jean-Georges, and great music.

  • "My daughter and I had dinner here at celebrate her acceptance into College at the recommendation of my brother. The vibe was hip, yet relaxed, the design was tasteful and inviting. The pretzel crusted calamari was an excellent appetizer, tender and paired well with either of the dipping sauces. My entree of scallops prepared with cauliflower, plump golden raisins, and roasted pine nuts was the best scallop dish I have had to date. It paired very well with the white wine that was suggested by our friendly and handsome waiter, Eric. The Lounge had a toasty fire blazing with several chairs and low tables making it a great place for before or after dinner drinks. I will definitely be back. "

I have been to lesser restaurants and had food that was more proportioned and flavorful. I would not come here again. Definitely do not get the bang for the buck."

  • "The service I experienced during brunch on a Sunday was horrific. We had to wait ten minutes for our waiter to come back to our table after he introduced himself to us. After placing our orders we had to wait another 13 minutes for our drinks (which was just a bottle of Prosecco Served with the mixers. It shouldn't have taken so long for us to get this one bottle. It's not like the 5 of us each ordered some insanely difficult to make cocktail. Thankfully our food was good, even though it took 1) about 30 minutes for us to get it, 2) we weren't asked if we wanted ketchup and 3) we didn't get any syrup with our French Toast. The crazy thing is that the restaurant was half empty so there was no excuse for such horrible service."

  • "I went with a group of six, and the food and ambiance were amazing. However, our waiter forgot some of our drinks on a few different occasions, and disappeared halfway through the night. We asked to split the check five ways, and he split it by six. Realizing his mistake, he called me and asked us to come back so he could fix his problem! While I would return again because of the food and atmosphere, I was very disappointed in the service. Because we had a large party and gratuity was included, it seemed like our waiter took advantage of that and chose to focus his attention elsewhere. I hope this was an anomaly in this fabulous Chicago staple."

Having been aware of the Pump Room for decades, I finally had the opportunity to dine there. It was a great scene for young adults who have hefty bank accounts. It just isn't the "old" Pump Room. Then again, things change."

She walked by several times serving other tables without so much as acknowledging that my date and I had a pulse. When I called her attention, she put up her finger and kept walking without even looking at us. It will be interesting to see if they call me to apologize."

He didn't seem all that busy... Wait staff was overall friendly, but they could definitely be more alert. Also, I had requested a lively seating atmosphere for my 28th Birthday dinner and was saddened when I was sitting facing a wall and couple towards the back. Get it together PUMP ROOM!"

  • "This is my third time at Pump Room and they never disappoint. I love the cocktails many of which have an interesting spicy-sweet combination. We really enjoyed the black truffle flat bread and the scallops. The service was a bit slow to get started as we had to wait 8-10 minutes before anyone came over, but it was prompt the rest of the meal. The lighting in the main room creates a perfect romantic ambiance."

The dining section is set off from the bar, so it's not like you're sitting in a crowded bar having dinner while everyone else there is getting wasted. But on the other hand, the dining section is very lively and just as trendy/hip as the bar area. Taken to a table when, the restaurant was virtually empty, around a corner in back to a round table that the couch didn't match the curvature of. Next to the waiters' closet. No view other than some other tables. All empty. Food and waiter were great but when ordering was told to order appetizer and entree at same time because the place was to get busy and this would assure our food delivery. Left the restaurant around 6:30. Meal complete. Didn't feel "special" to these folks but on the other hand I didn't complain about the table or the feeling that we needed to move quickly."

  • "We had a nice evening at the Pump Room. We got seated right away. It took our server a bit long to greet us but from then on out he was great. Our entrees were good but definitely on the small side. For that reason we both ordered dessert. They were excellent. This place was cool because while it was updated, you still got a little bit of the old school vibe through the patrons. We would consider this a special occasion place, the diners all come well dressed and the hosts and hostess looked nice as well. Why are the servers in gym shoes and jeans? That just felt odd to us. Maybe management is trying to keep it from feeling too stuffy? I didn't find it pretentious at all which was nice. We'd definitely go back again."

Sadly, the creativeness and delivery of product at the Pump Room missed for me and my guest on our visit and would land the restaurant somewhere on the lower end of quality and taste. We were going for the scenery and experience which was classy and lived up to expectations, I just think there's a lack of passion coming out of the kitchen right now."

  • "My husband and I came here the night before Valentines day. The atmosphere was warm and sexy, despite the large crowd, noise level was perfect. Loved the ambience. Started off with a Manhattan and a cucumber martini- perfectly balanced. The brocoli rabe and pepperoni flatbread was flavorful and light. I had the scallops with spaghetti squash for an entree and was very impressed. Seared and seasoned just the way I like. My husband got the tenderloin was extremely happy. Service is on point and well timed."

The food is exceptional, we ordered both the prefix as well as the regular menu for comparison and we were not disappointed in anyway. However, the service was a bit slow maybe due to Valentine's Day and all but the wait staff was quite attentive, but it still turned out to be a three hour dinner. My husband had short ribs which were fantastic and I had crab cakes which were scrumptious. My only complaint was that our reservations were at 8:30 but we were not seated until 9:00 PM.
