A word from Pulcinella
Executive Chef Domenic Tudda spent his childhood years learning of Italian cuisine while his family owned and operated Stromboli's restaurant in Calgary. He furthered his education by undergoing extensive culinary training in Italy and has been able to continue his parent's legacy of bringing unique and incredibly authentic Italian dining to Calgarians. One of the most revered of these ventures is Ristorante Pulcinella, where Domenic first earned distinction when his international training crossed borders and entered Calgary in the spring of 2006. One of the few APN (Associazione Pizzaioli Napolitani) certified pizzerias in the world, Domenic has been able to showcase his culinary skills, incredible wine knowledge, and passion for Italian cuisine to provide Calgary with a truly artistic, original and delicious experience not soon to be forgotten. Certainly not your classical North American pizza, it's definitely different, but definitely delicious.Continued

Diner Reviews
  • "Enjoyed the energetic atmosphere. A little too noisy for good conversation. Arrived at 6:30 on Saturday evening. Ordered 2 appies for our table of 5 along with dinner pizza's. Appetizers excellent (calamari and parmesan crisps). Did not receive our dinner until 8:15! Not sure if this was because of Saturday or if service is typically slow here. Despite the long list of wood-fired pizza's available, there wasn't a big variance in toppings. We had 4 different individual pizzas and they tasted remarkably similar!"

  • "Everything about the meal and experience was great but wish we hD been seated somewhere where I could see the hole restaurant. Sitting in the bar wasn't the plan for a romantic evening with my gf."

  • "Very good thin-crust pizza, with a great selection of toppings. It's second floor location in Kensington is fun for people watching."

  • "Had a great dinner. Service was polite but got sloppy towards the end. wines at really expensive with the cheapest being $38/$40. awesome food though"

  • "Once again Pucinella has proven to be a great choice for a night out. Excellent appetizers followed by great pizza and wine. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed it."

  • "Unfortunately it took the servers almost 20 minutes to find us a table when we arrived in the near empty restaurant on time for our res., and then told we had to by 7:15, when we were barely seated before 6. We told them not to put us upstairs, but that was apparently the only table available. We were rushed the entire time; our server tried to take our appetizer away while we were still eating it, and then we were given our bill before we were even finished eating; didn’t even have the option to look at a dessert menu. The server had the manager come by with the credit card machine to pay before we had even looked at the bill and stood there waiting for us to clear up the tab before we could even discuss the payment between our party..."

  • "Although we enjoyed our meal, I would say the hipe of the quality of food is a bit inflated. I would recommend WOPs pizza over here. It is still good."

  • "I've been to Pulcinella a lot and I love it!!! However this visit was disappointing. They've changed the funghi fritti, an amazing appetizer, which is now made of massive mushrooms with hardly any sauce? Super awkward to rave and rave about a dish then bring a friend to the restaurant and have the appetizer be so disappointing. We didn't even finish it. Should switch it back. The pizza we order was described as having mushrooms, artichokes, and prosciutto but the pizza was divided into four and each quarter only had one ingredient on it? Was their a change in chefs? This most recent visit was super disappointing. If it doesn't change my next visit will he my last. Sad to loose one of my favourite restaurants!!"

  • "My husband and I were very disappointment in the food. The calamari was fresh but the batter was too thick. The batter was a spicy take. We were in the mood for simple calamri. That is not what we had and I had to ask for lemons. How can you serve Calamri without lemons. We ordered a cheese and sauce pizza. Once again very disappointed. The middle of the pizza was so soggy. Part of the pizza was soggy and other parts very dry. I had asked for Bufflo mozza on top and what I got well, I can't tell. The basil on the pizza was cooked instead of fresh and the pizza sauce and overall taste was bland. Overall, nasty. We had also ordered their blood orange and fennel salad and once again disappointed. The salad tasted watery and not taste."

  • "My friend and I had both seen this show on great Pizza Wars and figured this would be the best pizza in town, unfortunately we were disappointed. There was nothing special about this pizza. We felt like we could've made this at home. We felt the dessert was three times as good as the pizza."

  • "Pulcinella is one of our favorite places to dine. One of our favorite dishes is their polenta lasagna. We decided to try a number of new dishes this time round and requested the meatballs and the arancini. At first we thought, not a good pick as we were very turned off by the food. However even our beloved polenta lasagna was not up to its usual snuff. And the pizza (cannot recall the name but has a cross on it with 4 different toppings) also was hard to take especially with the anchovy and mushroom section -and I like anchovies! We realized that the red sauce was unbearably salty and that is why we were having trouble. Not sure what happened that night but hopefully on our next visit the food will be back to its usual outstanding standard."

  • "Fabulous spot for foodies and for those loving a vibrant, happening evening out. Beautiful décor; exquisite food (antipasto tray to die for; great wine; freshly topped tasty pizzas; desserts and coffees heavenly. Wait staff friendly, attentive and unobstrusive. Overall, a wonderful get together for a group of long time friends. A memorable meal. Thanks!"

  • "Too noisy! Could not hear each other...we are in our early 30's and love a lively restaurant on a Saturday night - but this was much too loud to carry on a conversation! Also our waitress was horrible."

  • "Pulcinella has a very happening atmosphere downstairs, and a quieter more romantic atmosphere upstairs. The waiter was very prompt and even gave us a free shot for my birthday! The food was impeccable, and the wine definitely helped :) I would recommend Pulcinella to anyone!"

  • "This was our second time at the restaurant and was certainly not as good as we remembered. In spite of having an early reservation, we got stuck in a corner next to another couple in spite of asking to be moved and there being many open tables. The food was OK. Too much oil on the bruschetta and the calzone was clearly burned. We mentioned the burned crust to the waitress and was told it is supposed to be that way. We won't go back - too many other good options in the area to risk having this happen again."

  • "I went with my family to Pucinellas and we all shared 2 pizzas, 1 lasagna, 1 gnocchi and 1 order of meatballs. The meatballs were delectable, juicy and tender m. They just melt in your mouth. I really enjoyed one of the pizzas, the diablo it was spicy and almost any toppings would taste good on that crust! The rusticity was pretty good but I did not enjoy it as much. The gnocchi was pleasantly light and airy. The lasagna was good but wasn't worth waiting 30 minutes for. I did not care for the assortment of meat in it. The service was good but our waitress did not do anything to make the service or experience exceptinal. Over all I would recommend any one who hasn't been to come and try their amazing pizza. It is defiantly worth the trip!"

  • "Wonderful Napoletana food, a large selection of Italian wines, good service with friendly, helpful staff and a noisy, fun, ambiance. We were there at 6:30 PM on a Saturday evening and there were lots of kids. This would not be the ideal time if you were looking for a quiet setting for a romantic dinner."

  • "We are from Red Deer and friends from Calgary invited us. We were early for our reservation and they welcomed us in to sit down and have a drink while we waited which was lovely. The wine list was superb and enjoyed the pizza and cheese cake very much! The only thing was we found it a little noisy to visit, but overall enjoyed the evening very much :)"

  • "We've been here several times, we love the pizza, the vibe, and the atmosphere. We've only sat upstairs once before this time and we were shocked the waiter remembered us. Rob, our waiter was exceptional. He knew the menu and made great recommendations. He took great care of us and didn't rush us as he realized we were there to enjoy the evening. We go to other restaurants much more frequently than this and are never remembered by staff. Well done, Rob. We will be back and will be requesting your section!!!"

  • "We went to Pulcinella's for my birthday dinner on Feb. 21st.. It was perfect! -- could not have been better!!! I had gnocchi (mmmm), my husband has tortelinni (equallky mmm) and my mom had the soup (delicous). The service was amazing....very friendly and annentive. Love the energetic atmosphere.....lots always happening here! And wonderful central location in Knesington......and all for a reasonable price. Thanks to Peter, our server (it was his birthday too), and the whole gang at Pulcinella's for making it such a special evening! We will be back for sure.......now our favourite restaurant in Calgary!"

  • "We love this place. The pizza is fantastic, the desert is delicious. The only issue we had was the wine. We were presented with a taste of their feature wine and after perusing the menu decided to get it. The waiter never mentioned the price, but we assumed it would be in the $10-$12 range per glass as were all the other reds. When we got our bill it ended up being $21 per glass. I guess that was also our fault for not asking, but it felt a little sneaky on the waiter's part. We will definitely go back....we'll just ask the wine prices next time!"

  • "We love Italian cuisine, but Italian is not only about pizza! I ordered spaghetti carbonara for a change and was greatly disappointed. How can pasta, in Italian restaurant, be Overcooked???!! my dish was simply sort of ... gluey and starchy. We also ordered a pizza, which was very good, but I get the same pizza (i.e. so good) at 2/3 prize in Famoso. Service was exceptional."

  • "Large portions, We started with the mushroom-gorgonzola appetizer which could almost be a meal by itself for one person. Tasty but a little on the salty side. Wife had the ravioli and quite enjoyed it. I had the lasagna, it was a little on the bland side. Not bad for a night out, at least to try. Will probably go back at some point but there are lots of other places i'd sooner go. service was good and friendly."

  • "I'm a fan of the atmosphere, however the Valentines day grab was disappointing. A 4 course menu of some defined choices. EXCEPT 1 selection for your appetizers between two? Some stupid logic that took away from the sale of their restaurant in my eyes. WE wanted to try different things and for a couple hundred dollars (adding wine pairing). Come on. Regardless, nothing was all that noteworthy. Felt rushed for a Valentines day "grab" and that's a shame as I love the location and atmosphere. I'm there often, but this is my "critical" hat. I'm generally fine with everything, but if you want an opinion? I'll give you MY truth ;) It has fallen off my radar in the new pizza generation restaurants. Hopefully they notice times are changing."
