A word from Pulcinella
Executive Chef Domenic Tudda spent his childhood years learning of Italian cuisine while his family owned and operated Stromboli's restaurant in Calgary. He furthered his education by undergoing extensive culinary training in Italy and has been able to continue his parent's legacy of bringing unique and incredibly authentic Italian dining to Calgarians. One of the most revered of these ventures is Ristorante Pulcinella, where Domenic first earned distinction when his international training crossed borders and entered Calgary in the spring of 2006. One of the few APN (Associazione Pizzaioli Napolitani) certified pizzerias in the world, Domenic has been able to showcase his culinary skills, incredible wine knowledge, and passion for Italian cuisine to provide Calgary with a truly artistic, original and delicious experience not soon to be forgotten. Certainly not your classical North American pizza, it's definitely different, but definitely delicious.Continued

Diner Reviews
  • "Very much like what I had in Naples. Awesome beet salad too!"

  • "Went to check out this place after watching the Food Network and Pizza Wars. Pizza was alright. Crust/dough was super good (probably why they display "the papers"). Very lacking on the amount of toppings, sauce and cheese compared to other pizza places like Double Zero or Beer Revolution or Famoso. Maybe that's the way they are supposed to make and its authentic. Personally not my type of pizza (still like thin crust though, but am Albertan and I love beef and lots of it!). Tried it, ok experience, crossed off my list of places to try. Won't go again cause there are better places and prices. Cool decor though, like the Grandpa that didn't want his picture taken."

  • "When you dine Italian, you want to leave feeling that you made Momma happy with her cooking and Pulcinella succeeds in doing so. The food was flavourful and unique and nice to look at. The portion sizes were substantial enough that I could barely finish the dessert. The service was very friendly and attentive and the atmosphere was comfortable even in a modern setting. I liked it."

  • "This was my second visit, both the pasta's and pizza's are fantastic. Only wish I wasn't so full I could try dessert sometime. Only complaint is that it's extremely loud, you have to shout to hear someone across the table. Otherwise it's a Calgary favorite for me!"

  • "We went to Pulcinella for pizza before going to the Jubilee for a show. It was very good pizza and nice lively atmosphere. Our noisy teenagers and laughter were not noticed or bothersome to anyone else dining, which is great. We went at 4:30 to make sure we would have lots of time before an 8pm curtain. We were finished by about 6 and had plenty of time to go get a yogurt and arrive at the theatre with great parking and no stress. I had read reviews which indicated slow service which we did not experience however the restaurant was getting very busy even by 5:30! So I believe it may get quite busy anemone should go to enjoy the good wines, appetizers and pizza. It is to be enjoyed not rushed. Delicious"

  • "Pulcinella is on our "Restaurants We Love" list......loved the fennel salad, the Four Seasons pizza was the best....and my husband, who rates Italian restaurants on how well they prepare their lasagna, rated Pulcinella's as excellent......service was perfect.....would not recommend venue for intimate conversation as the noise level is probably the maximum we have ever experienced in a restaurant, but for a festive group (or dining with someone you don't want to converse with...like maybe your evil in-laws), it has a boisterous, joyous vibe!"

  • "Food was ok - nothing special. This restaurant is extremely noisy. At one point my dinner companion complained that she was yelling at me to be heard. Not an enjoyable experience."

  • "We had a wonderful meal. Good detail on presentation and flavour was excellent. We did not have wine (wish we could have) but it looked great at the next table. We would go back."

  • "Food was just OK, we were sat on the Balcony and it got cold and windy very fast and we asked the waiter if we could move inside and he said "it will be fine i'll just turn up the heater" 10 min later we were still freezing and asked someone else who i think was the supervisor who quickly found us a table but by that time we were ready to take our food to go and get home. We ate there but it was just ok (don't get the pasta with Beef Cheeks). I would still recommend Pulcinella as this is the first time I've been and it was just Schmeh."

  • "First off we came here for my husbands birthday and the waiter was very energetic and friendly but seemed very overwhelemed, it looked as though someone hadn't shown up for work and he was working so hard to look after everyone in the whole restaurant. This is my 3rd time here and the food was not very good, the ravioli was very hard but did not complain as the waiter had no time to ask how my food was and was to hungy to wait. we ordered dessert and the kitchen forgot about our order, I will not be returning to this restaurant which is unfortunate."

  • "I am Italian so I have an excellent knowledge of food. I can honestly say that Pulcinella's pizza is the best Italian pizza I had outside of Italy _ and I have been around a bit! I love it!"

  • "We had theatre tickets and so we came for an early birthday dinner for my husband since he loves Italian food. The calamari was amazing, pizza and pasta also really good. We were too full to finish our desserts but the tiramisu was fantastic, and good cannoli as well. Friendly and fast service - based on reviews I was expecting a two hour meal, so we ended up with time to kill before the show, but better early than late!"

  • "It's time to revisit Pulcinella. It will surprise you if you let it. Go for the Neapolitan pizza because chef Dom Tudda is still one of the few chefs in Canada to be certified by the true Neapolitan pizza organization of Naples. He earns that time and again. But, also open your palate to the rest of the menu. There are salads, pastas and mains that will delight. There's a sophistication of flavour achieved with masterful Italian simplicity. Recent hire Chef de Cuisine Luigi Ornaghi augments the menu nightly with features. We went Saturday and the house was jumping with happy patrons. A deep wine list with all of Italy's top winemakers completed the experience. My family is looking forward to a reunion with Pulcinella's friendly staff soon."

  • "Very noisy, could not here people at our own table, pizza was just ok, however the dessert pizza was delicious!"

  • "We sat on the rooftop patio so the noise level was decent. The server seemed a little disengaged and unfriendly. Great wine list but not enough selection for beers or cocktails. We had the mussels and pizza which was delicious. Overall, it was an ok experience."

  • "Pulcinalla has the best pizza in Calgary. The staff is professional, friendly and attentive. The wine list has a great selection. We love to eat here. We usually arrive early as it can be quite noisy. However, ulstairs is open on weekends and thw patio is open in summer. Can't wait for my next pizza. The pasta ia also excellent. The polenta lasagna is great and the portion is large enoigh for a full meal."

  • "Great for dinner with the family and kids, maybe a little too noisy I would not Raccomend for a romantic dinner just for the noise. Food, service, style and wine list 5 star."
    Dined on 7/26/2014
  • "Found the food great, and the server we had was great as well. Their mussles are really tasty! Too high on the noise level. Would not recommend for an intimate dining experience."
    Dined on 7/25/2014
  • "We had three pizzas and they were all good. The caprese salad was ordinary. This was our first visit and we were impressed with the look of the space but surprised at the noise level. It was difficult for the four of us to hear one another."
    Dined on 7/19/2014
  • "Too noisy, food is average and I don't appreciate parents who think it's okay to breast feed at the dinner table."
    Dined on 7/18/2014
  • "The pizza was very good .. Loved the crust and was super flavourful .. Service was awesome. Limited beer options. Huge wine list .. They obviously specialize more in wine . The atmosphere was way too loud for us. We were looking for a romNtic night out but it was way too loud to the point we had to yell to hear one another . We think it was the acoustics as no one seemed particular loud .. That was the only drawback .. Otherwise we loved it and will go back !"
    Dined on 7/18/2014
  • "Authentic pizza is their specialty, many variations, light crust and easy on the sauce and cheese, allowing fresh ingredients to shine. Nice selection of appies, too, and the pastas are nice. Phenomenal tiramisu to finish. When sparsely attended, the acoustics are a little distracting -- no people to soak up the sound. One loud table amongst a half-dozen quiet groups can be very distracting."

  • "Good service. Good food. A little pricy for a single glass of wine although the wine was good. A little noisy atmosphere but not too bad. The ambience wasn't all that cozy. A very open concept much like a warehouse environment."

  • "There were 14 people in our group and the service was exceptional for such a large group. We all received our food at the same time, nobody had to wait for theirs. The food was perfect. This was the second time for us at Pulcinella because we enjoyed it so much the first time we came back. Our server was very personable. I would certainly recommend Pulcinella."

  • "Everything was great. Just a very loud restaurant. Hard to hear cross table conversations"

  • "Love the patio on second floor, fully covered to help with sun. Food is consistently good, Calgary has some great options so hard to say it's outstanding but it's a solid standby casual Italian with a trendy twist type place."

  • "We enjoyed the food and our waiter was fantastic and accomodated the needs of our young family."
    Dined on 6/28/2014
  • "Love the shaded patio and delicious pizzas. The chef is very innovative and managed to create a very delicious pizza that usually would be served with ham with cured meet insted, when we requested no pork products."
    Dined on 6/23/2014
  • "The service was great but the food was average. Our group of 10 tried several appetizers, five different pizzas and salad. The pizza is better elsewhere but overall a good experience."

  • "Had been to Pulcinella a few times for dinner and/or drinks and/or appetizers, but never for lunch. Turns out it is great for lunch too. Nice and bright and a little quieter during the day makes it a great lunch spot. Attentive, but not obtrusive service was great also. Spent more than I thought I would, but that was more due to me ordering too much and having a full-size pasta for no good reason. Next time I'll order more like I do usually at lunch and price will be fine."

  • "Six of us gathered to break bread in celebration of our sons 35th Birthday. The service was good, attentive and professional. Our server did not know a lot about wine so asked another individual to assist us in the selection. He started by directing us to a $450 bottle of wine and then proceeded to go down in price, finally stopping at $125 and asking me then why don't I just give him a price point to go with. We ended up choosing a $100 bottle, which he raved about and we found it to be passable. Two diners had the Wild Mushroom and butter Squash Ravioli, one was sent back and the other required the person to go home and make something to eat. The Mussels were good, stuffed Pork was alright. The rest of the table picked at their food."

  • "This was my second time at Pulcinella-loved it so much the first time... Pizza is amazing and wine was delightful ! Staff was great as well, had great recommendations and took the time to make great conversation about our post-dinner plans !"

  • "The service was brutal, sat down and order apetizer and 2 entrees (pizza and pasta). We were already absolutely hungry wanting to try and enjoy the food. But it turns out it was completely not what we expected. Food did not come for a whole hour... A pizza and pasta..seriously? Then the service....they tell us ok 2 minutes it will be here, 20 minutes later still nothing, the second the food gets here I asked for take out boxes and bill, they bring the bill but no boxes I had to ask another 2 times before anything came. I would most definitely not recommend this place, absolutely garbage"

  • "The pizza was good, although on the saltier side and although the atmosphere was good it just happened to be on the louder side for me and my friends for that Friday evening. I know that Pulcinella is a popular place for Neopolitan pizza, but I had to shout to heard to my friend sitting beside me just to have a conversation. The service was quick and the appetizers and mains came out in a timely fashion. I would recommend Pulcinella if you have a group of friends that are looking for a high energy atmosphere. But if you're looking for a nice dinner date with your significant other, I would request to see if they can't seat you somewhere upstairs or on the patio if the weather is nice. "

  • "Pulcinella is a favioirite of ours. This visit was no exception. The staff is professional and friendly. Since they know us well our wine is on the table in seconds and the pizza ordered. Pizza delicious and perfect as usual. This time we shared a cannolli..yummy and each had espresso. The biscotti is the best."

  • "I've been here a few times now and each time I'm always happy with my experience. They have an amazing staff who are incredibly attentive, informative and friendly. I wish I'd gotten the name of my waiter on Monday because he was definitely worth a friendly email to the restaurant about excellent service. Their wine list is incredible, their panna cotta is absolutely to die for and their portions leave enough for lunch the next day. I love the ambiance in the restaurant; it's very welcoming and classy. Save for a screeching table of wine-soaked ladies seated nearby, the volume of patrons and music were both very, very comfortable. I'd go back in a heartbeat."

  • "We heard it was good. We like to drink and eat. Figured this would be perfect. Waiter was inattentive and not personable. Food was bland. Bread came after meal was done. They have mastered pizza crust no doubt. Wine glasses were empty more often than full. All we needed was a better waiter and then we would have had more drinks and would not have been so let down by bland food. Pizza toppings were in middle of pizza and they cut ham just like dominos. "
