After eating more than 25 dinners at Pujol over the past 3 1/2 years, we have some acute observations. The greeting from the host is always a bit odd and forced, they should smile and greet guests by name. The menu is lovely and re-designed continuously, the current Fall 2012 is nice. Without getting into the details of each dish, the general execution was very good and the proteins properly cooked. Some of the presentations are a bit 'forced'...the essence of EO's cooking is experimental indigenous but risks being 'precious'. Good desserts and nice new coffee service. We will continue to fly down and enjoy Pujol but I encourage a bit of self-relfection. Until our next visit...good luck and enjoy!

Given the accolades, Pujol fell short. It started out very nice with the baby corn in the smoke pot. However, the rest of the meal was mostly unmemorable. I can only recall the lamb taco. The rest were not necessarily bad but just did not make any impact. Compare to Biko, this restaurant was just ok.

This is an exceptional dining experience in Mexico City. A little hard to find (the sign outside is very understated) but well worth the journey. Gives a whole new meaning to what you think of as "Mexican" food. Food, wine, service, ambiance are all extraordinary.

Have frequented this restaurant over the last 3 years. In my opinion, the dining experience has decreased as Olivera's star has risen as a top chef. Dining last night, we had the choice of only two fixed menus (seafood vs. meat). The food is good, however the lack of variety will keep me away in the future. Sad to see a top restaurant suffer when the chef's ego gets too big. Having said that, I am clearly in the minority as reservations have never been harder to come by.

They only had two course menus, one about $690 pesos and $950. I got the 690 one and really, REALLY enjoyed the meal. The wine list was humongous and because I was confused they kindly showed me various wines. The food was so good that I can't wait to go there again.

Considered one of the top restaurants in Mexico City. It truly is a great restaurant, although the service is a tad below where it should be. Knowledge by waiters regarding the menu needs to improve, their descriptions are too basic for a complex menu. The menu is outstanding, although there is a dish or two that are good, but were supposed to be perfect. And sometimes they are not executed the same. They need to improve their margin of error. A really innovative place in one of the most cosmopolitan cities in the world.

While Enrique Olvera may not be in the same league as Grant Achatz or Fernan Adria; you can get a fabulous meal here for a fraction of the cost (although it is expensive for Mexico City). I have eaten here three times and have always been impressed with the creative use of indigenous Mexican ingredients. Although some of Olvera's experiments are a bit too clever, most of the time he hits the mark. (I rated the food "Outstanding" the first two visits, and "Very Good" this time). The service is also very good.

  • Pujol deserves its reputation
    christocinoVIP
    Dined on 10/2/2010
Pujol deserves its reputation as one of the best restaurants in Mexico City. And while it is more expensive than most restaurants in Mexico, it continues to be a very good deal. If Pujol were in NYC, well ... This was my second time here, and the food remains consistently excellent. The ceviche was perhaps the best ceviche that I have ever had (and I have had many a great ceviche), and my main course was a white fish that melted in my mouth. Each dish was exquisitely simple, yet intriguing at the same time. Pujol does not need to clutter the plate in order to impress. The presentation is usually understated but the ingredients and the execution are right on the mark.

Every time I go to Pujol is amazing and between visits I can still remember the different tastes in my mouth, the excellent presentation of the food. The service is great, always paying attention to every detail, but you never feel they intrude or interrupt. I highly recommend the prix menu with wine tasting. I think is the best restaurant in Mexico. Prices are high, but it is worth the food and service. However, on my last visit I felt it were excessive compared with my previous visit.

The restaurant is so dark that the service staff uses little penlights tableside. They should make them available to all diners so they can more easily read the menu! The fish in the ceviche had almost no flavor although fortunately the sauce was complex and tasty. The pork belly was very good but the beef tenderloin again didn't have much flavor. And the dessert was completely forgettable... maybe it was a panna cotta...I forget. Looking for a foodie experience that justifies the cost? There are better choices.

  • Tries to hard. Lost its balance
    OpenTable Diner Since 2006VIP
    Dined on 3/20/2010
Tries to hard. Lost its balance between its aspiration toward subtlety and its instinct to overwhelm. Holds back where it needs to be bold in its innovations (why the bland ceviche? similarly on the tomato tortilla soup) and falls back on uninspiring standbys and sometimes simply makes amateur missteps (an unexplicably heavy amuse-bouche). Service was perhaps too efficient. One was gangpressed to finish and be sent on our way.

The starting liquid "gringa" was the worst thing I've ever tasted. It's like a blended fatty taco. The "venado" came raw and tasteless The "platanos con crema" were a mix of "crema alpura" with cheap bananas. Avoid it if you're looking for precision and culinary refinement.

Everything about this resturant was perfect. Do not eat the tasting menu unless you have a huge appetite. Also, do not make the same mistake I did. OpenTable Diner Since 2007

Good place to know a bit more about mexican food. However, being a local, I found it overly expensive for the sort of food they serve (very good and tasty by the way, but come on, an "esquite" side at 750% markup from the regular street price?) and I expected it to be expensive anyways. I was surprised to see half the restaurant being attended by tourists and I also took a business acquaintance who was foreign. My point is that for such a popular place for foreign visitors (or for their concierges!) they have not had the attention of printing an english language menu, so I found myself scrambling to translate some hard to translate words if you're not a chef. Overall very good visit, but they can review their menus and their "sides".
