  • "Pucquio is a tiny Rockridge restaurant that serves fresh, Peruvian plates. Great selection of ceviches and Peruvian standards like lomo saltado and tacu tacu. All plates can and should be shared. You have to be a little patient, since the chef cooks everything to order and there's only one of him. Service was cordial, and the chef comes out from behind the counter to see how you like your food. Best to make reservations, since they can seat only around 20 diners. Give it a try even if you've never had Peruvian food."

  • "We came for a 6:30pm SAT night dinner, and sat at the bar top, in front of kitchen and really enjoyed seeing the food being prepped. It was all amazingly fresh and tasted real good. The bottle of house sangria hit the spot. This was our 1st visit... we'll be back."

  • "We wanted to like Pucquio, but it wasn't meant to be. Our hostess/server tried her best, but the dining room was too much for 1-person to handle. The kitchen is slow (our dinner was almost 2.5hrs). 30mins after being seated, my party of 4 was asked to move from our corner table (by a group of 7 who also had reservations) to an uncomfortable spot next to the kitchen walkway. There was no space for my bag, except on the floor. The restaurant is small and stuffy (poorly ventilated). Bathrooms are outside, down a driveway (shared with an office complex). Charming neighborhood, good ceviche and dessert, but for the price-point there are better dining options around."

The Lomo Saltado, a beef stir-fry dish with onion, tomatoes in a tasty sauce with white rice topped with an egg was wonderful with my lady friend appreciating the veal short-rib dish, both coupled with a glass of smooth, aged Malbec. Will certainly return for a second meal. A great experience."

  • "The food was basically very tasty, full of flavor and mostly delicious. Let's start there. But one should not own and operate a restaurant if one cannot staff it appropriately, organize and execute dishes in a timely manner in order to put food on the table within a reasonable amount of time. Two and 1/2 hours from ordering till entree is not reasonable, and we were so agitated by the time the dishes arrived that it was unforgivable, though the chef himself came over to apologize. We appreciated his good wishes and regrets, however, there is really no excuse. As for Peruvian food, which we love, we would stick to Mochica SF over in the City. Don't miss the shrimp bisque but otherwise nothing was so astounding that it was worth so much time."

  • "The whole sea bream in garlic sauce was amazing ( we had it last time and could not resist ordering it again) as was the Jaleal (fried mixed fish and seafood) and the Tacu. We had the Bombitas for dessert ; another time we had the postre de dia and they both were heavenly. Because it is a tiny place (6 tables and 4 seats at the bar), it can be a bit drafty if cold outside and the door opens, so bring a wrap. We have taken several groups of friends there and they all like it. It is cozy and friendly and has the sense of a neighborhood restaurant. Nice, not expensive wines."

  • "Three of us came to celebrate our birthdays and chose selections from the prix-fixe menu. The food was surprisingly sophisticated and presented in a "California" style that I had not expected. Our waitress was warm and friendly. She took care to explain each dish and its ingredients to us. The fish and seafood appetizers were sparkling fresh. My favorite was the rich smoky sauce that accompanied the seafood combination entre. Don't miss the refreshing fruit punch (I forget what it's called). I hope they expand the menu as their following grows."

  • "I don't get it. Most reviews for Pucquio were so positive. Why? The place was half-empty when we arrived and yet it took an hour before we got our first course, a salad. And the total meal (salad, appetizer, main course, side dish) took 2 hours and 20 minutes. I wasn't in a rush to go anywhere, but I had been hungry when I arrived and would have liked to get the salad, or some bread, in the first half hour. The food didn't impress, either. The house salad was fresh but lacked flavor -- tasted like only lettuce and olive oil. The cebiche first course hadn't been marinated long enough and was a bit chewy. A mixed fish and potato main course was mostly bland, as were the lukewarm plantains. Service was polite, but those delays were maddening."

  • "We enjoyed our dining experience at Pucquio. The seafood dishes were excellent, however, if one does not enjoy fish or seafood, there is very little to eat, except for one beef dish. No chicken and few vegetarian offerings, which made it difficult for my companion to dine here. The servings are on the smaller side, but excellently prepared and presented."

  • "We just celebrated my wife's birthday at Pucquio. The restaurant is small: counter seating for 4 and seating for about 16. The restaurant is cozy. We thought the food was quite good. The cebiches were very good, with bold flavors, and 3 or 4 varieties to choose from. The main course of the market fish (fried dorado) was good, the presentation was excellent. The other courses of the stir fried beef and seafood in beurre blanc sauce were also very tasty. The only criticism that I have is that the food did not come out all at once for our party for multiple courses, and the service was a little slow (4 hr dinner for 4 courses). We would definitely go back for the ceviche."

  • "We sampled one of the ceviches, two cold plates and 2 hot plates + their home-made ice-cream . All the seafood was very fresh and well prepared with very generous portions. There were many types of ceviche to sample. However, it would have been nice to have more variety to choose from among the other cold appetizers and the hot main courses. The service was very gracious and welcoming including the special item (fried yucca) that the chef brought to our table to substitute for the french fries that were to accompany one of the main dishes and which we had declined."

  • "Not a place to dine at if you are under tight time constraints. Slow dining as there is one chef. Cerbiches are fresh and tasty. Chef prepares the dishes individually, thus excellent quality control. Sangria is great, cerbiches tasty and fresh, tacu seafood rice dish is full of flavor,...a bit expensive....service is uneven..."
