Diner Reviews
  • "I brought a group here for dinner after a matinee. They all loved it. Service was a bit spotty in that did not get new silverware when old was taken away and not keeping up with water but other wise ok. Some were surprised at portion size of a pasta dish that was $24 but all enjoyed the food."

  • "Everything was great! I was looking for a restaurant near Union Square because I had relatives in town and wanted something not too touristy or expensive. When I reserved through Open Table, I indicated that I was gluten-free and that we had a toddler in our party. There was a special gluten-free menu waiting for me, and for the toddler, there was a booster seat, child's water (with a straw and plastic lid to avoid spills), paper placemat for coloring, and crayons already at the table. I was very impressed with the care they took to meet our needs. The waitress was extremely nice, friendly, and helpful. The food was fantastic! I had the salmon, which was very tasty. The crème brûlée for dessert was amazing. I will definately return!"

  • "This was my first time here and I was pleased with the service and the food was good. I travel to SF a couple times a year for work and this was a good spot for lunch for meeting clients."

  • "What a lucky find-- really good food, great service, friendly old wood and leather ambiance. Hey, not the best neighborhood since close to the Tenderloin, but across the street from Parc 55 Wyndham 5-star hotel, so how bad can it be? Our salmon was terrific, chicken marsala great. Good but small wine list. Best deal-- Happy Hour every day 3-6 with house wines at $3, cocktails $4 - $6.50 and lively with locals (they know a good deal when they find one). Just step around the winos outside and watch the street action from the comfort of inside. Lots of young people in this neighborhood, few tourists. Try it."

  • "My first visit to San Fran area and we were staying at the hotel across the street from the restaurant. In the mood for italian, we tried it and we were not disappointed! Had the mussels to start and 2 orders of linguine with claims. Fresh, tasty and the fresh parm that they served with the pasta was a great bonus! I would recommend!"

  • "Great meal and outstanding service before a play in SF."

  • "the food was very good, but would love to see more vegetarian options. right now, they are very limited, especially for an italian restaurant."

  • "Was traveling to San Fran and found this gem! The bartender was really nice and recommended the spaghetti and meatballs ( which I usually wouldn't get) but glad I did... The meatballs were excellent! Not a place to go if you want peace and quiet..but great if you want a fun environment and good drinks this is the way to go"

  • "My family are a bit picky and the server did a great job accommodating them. He even split up the beer and entree they shared in 2 separate dishes."

  • "The overall dinner was good. The warm bruschetta with rocatta cheese was great. The chicken Marsala sauce was very good, the mashed potates were very good, however the chicken was dry."

  • "Good food and service. Very noisy where we were seated. With a reservation though we would get a quieter table in the back. Picked this restaurant because we had a gift cert. given at Christmas at this specific rest through Kimpton said they were no longer associated with them and would not accept it."

  • "Great place to go for dinner before going to a play at the Geary or Curran Theaters"

  • "Fun place with fair prices. Kevin is a star and gave great service with personality plus. Merci Beaucoup."
    Dined on 7/8/2014
  • "We selected the restaurant because it was close to the Curran. It was a delightful surprise. Everything was excellent. We could not have been happier. And, they were very attentive to our time constraints."

  • "Gave the restaurant another try and everything is back to par. The food was excellent and the servers are enjoyable"

  • "Was happy to find this terrific restaurant a few blocks from the Curran Theater. Atmosphere great, extensive gluten-free menu, and friendly waiter. But it took awhile for our lunch to come out, so give yourself extra time if you're catching a show. Prices are a bit high, but I'd go back again."

  • "Our appetizers arrived very soon after we ordered, but our food did not arrive for 30 minutes! Our entrees were the veal scallopini and fruite di mare. Both of these dishes should not take longer than 15 minutes to make. There was also only a handful of pasta in the fruite di mare."

  • "This was a great location to eat before going to the Curran. We tried it for the gluten free menu. We ordered pizza and they said they had no dough left. We tried the spaghetti pasta gluten free. It was fine. Lots of sauce very little noodles."

  • "My Friend and I really enjoyed Puccini and Pinetti. The menu selection was great. I am a vegetarian and there was several options to choose from. My friend had a special request for one of the dishes and they were very willing to accommodate her. The cocktails were interesting and good as well. It is in walking distance from hotels on Union Square as well. A very enjoyable evening."

  • "Our waitress, Amanda was friendly, efficient and accommodating. She completely followed through on making sure our food was gluten free."

  • "Nice location to dine before a show. Full bar and quite good food. One person in our party had the white pizza and loved it, I had the ravioli and while not spectacular, it was tasty. I would definitely go again."
    Dined on 6/19/2014
  • "I've visited this restaurant before, but last night's visit was outstanding. My ravioli was the best I've ever had, and although I don't finish my plates these, days, polished off every one. The service was attentive but not overbearing. My dining partner and I both had so many choices, and were happy with both choices we made. She also finished all her chicken marsala. looking forward to next time."

  • "My wife had the salmon (with asparagus and wild rice) and I had the pork chop (with fava beans and greens). The salmon was especially flavorful and moist. The pork chop was also very good- tender and juicy with excellent flavor. The beans were somewhat hard and crunchy, not quite what I hoped for. The wine recommended by our server was Coppola's 'Director's Cut' cabernet which was full bodied and quite enjoyable."

  • "We had a group of eight and they set us us a long table and treated us great. The service was awesome as was the food. Such a great find!"

  • "A nice surprise as the pasta was made on site and had the mouthfeel and flavor of fresh pasta! Noisy in front along the bar but quieter toward the back wall. Open kitchen and well worth the visit! "

  • "Food was okay not the best Italian food. Service was bad we barely saw our waitress. Don't eat the bread."
    Dined on 5/25/2014
  • "Very loud, ridiculously over priced for mediocre food. There's no way two watered down pasta dishes should have been $25 each. I'm sorry we had our anniversary dinner here. We had to nearly yell in order to hear one another. On the up side, our server was wonderful. "

  • "the wait staff was friendly and attentive - food was delivered timely and temperature of food was appropriate. Most dishes ordered were tasty; however, the broth to the seafood pasta dish was less desirable - could have had more of a taste to it. Overall, I would recommend this place - it was convenient and no problem in making reservations and getting seated promptly."

  • "I was pleasantly surprised by this little place. The food was very good and the prices were very reasonable. My party did not all arrive on time and yet the wait staff made sure we were well taken care of. Kudos to this restaurant!"

  • "I ordered the chicken Marsala and it was deliscious even my two year old daughter liked it she ate more of my food than hers and the tiramisu just melts in your mouth. Elvis was our server and checked on us more than a couple of times really friendly and gave us great recommendations "

  • "Great bar staff and excellent happy hour; the bar menu is not huge but really enjoyable. Given the very central location this is a regular spot for us. Highly recommended."

  • "I found this place on Easter Sunday, not realizing so many places (including the malls) would be closed. My niece and I were wandering around and saw this place. We enjoyed a nice salad and portabello mushroom panini. It was a quiet and beautiful place. The next week my husband and I were going to a play downtown, so I took him there. He loved the salami panini. What a hidden find, behind the Powell BART and MUNI station. This place is just steps from shopping without the din of the mall food court."

  • "Overpriced main courses, lasagna that tasted like a heat lamp, an extensive wine list that seemed large and expensive for the sake of being large and expensive. Nice but odd service (had to ask for cutlery in order to eat our mains, multiple servers asking to clear the same plate) and "good for vegetarians"? Not by any standard I'm aware of besides the one that goes "there will be some pasta and salad you can eat"."

  • "It was very accommodating to our group straggling in over nearly an hour from our reservation time. Took orders from the late comers but got the serving nearly synchronized. Our waiter (I think Joe, but I'm terrible at names) was attentive, but not intrusive. Food was very good. Olive and dried tomato tampanade we could have eaten by the spoonful. salads were well proportioned and tasty. Mains were good, filet was cooked as we liked it, although the blue cheese perhaps unnecessary. asparagus perfectly grilled. seafood pasta was tasty, although the scallops either overcooked or from frozen or both. Risotto was nicely done. The warm chocolate cake dessert was a tad sweet but why did we lick every morsel? "

  • "One of my favorite restaurants, but this time, the service was only so-so. Food was good, as usual. The service was slow and not very attentive, seemed like the server was pre-occupied."

  • "The food here was nothing special. My friend and I both had the seafood linguini and it was bland and not worth $26. We are locals and chose this restaurant because we were seeing a play at a nearby theater. We came to the conclusion that this restaurant caters mostly to tourists and people staying in nearby Union Square hotels and are not counting on repeat customers. Needless to say, we will not be returning."

  • "Great food and service. Jessica, the manager, was amazing and made our experience out of this world. Keep it up!"

  • "We had tickets to the ACT, and it's an easy walk from the restaurant. There were a few good dishes, but nothing stood out. I wouldn't go out of my way to dine here, but if we have theater tickets nearby, I wouldn't hesitate to go here again."
