Diner Reviews
  • "The entire table went the steak route and that was a great choice. Fantastic steaks that were cooked perfectly. I will be dining here every future trip to SanFran in the future."

  • "Located in union square, it's a great place to drop the shopping bags and get a drink at the bar or grab a table and have some awesome cappallini or meatballs."

  • "Lots of choices for vegetarians, and the waiter said they're happy to prepare menu items without meat. Ceasar, arugula and mixed green salads were all generous and tasty. Preserved lemon risotto was fantastic, tortellini special was yummy but rich, carpaccio was delicious. Wine recommendations spot-on. We were served quickly, but lingered over our meal; never felt rushed. Tiramisu, lemon cheesecake and coffee topped off a delightful evening. We'll be back!"

  • "A friend and I were attending a conference at the Parc 55 across the street and wanted a quick but nice dinner. This was a great choice since I am gluten free. I had the Chicken Marsala it was amazing, my friend who is not gluten free has the special cannelloni and she said it was fantastic."

  • "Food is super tasty but not a unique menu...but sometimes it's nice to know exactly what you are ordering. I found it loud at a Saturday night 5:45pm dinner for the 3 of us. We were not near the bar. It's comfortable and the service was excellent and all was timed well. Easy to find on the corner."

  • "The bartender Kevin is always so friendly, cheerful, helpful, and on top of his job. He gave my daughter extra attention on her 21st birthday which was a great start to her day. Thanks Kevin, we'll be back to see you soon!"

  • "We went to Puccini & Pineeti on Friday night before a show. We had been to Kuleto's before and wanted to try something new. What a great choice! My husband and I shared the calamari (perfectly done) and I had one of the specials-ahi tuna while he had his regular-a hamburger on a gluten free bun. My tuna was on a bed of mashed potatoes with broccolini while his hamburger came with a salad rather than the usual french fries-a perfect and lighter choice. We both LOVED our entrees (and each others). The portions were generous and the food was delicious. The service couldn't be better and the atmosphere-fun! We will definitely come back and probably make it a go to place."

  • "The restaurant staff was very accommodating. My reservation time had to be moved back an hour and then I added another 10 people to the party. Unusual for a restaurant in San Francisco, they made it work! The food was great and the service impeccable!"

  • "We found this restaurant a few years back when we were attending a play at the Curran Theatre. Turns out our neighbor formally worked in the area. She was as plased as we with the location, food and service."

  • "Food and service are excellent if you're in this part of town. 3-course lunch special is a great buy. Traditional Italian cuisine done well."

  • "Met a client here for a lunch meeting downtown. The noise level was perfect to be able to have a discussion without having to yell. The food was delicious and the portions weren't overwhelming. My only knock is that the service was a little slow, but our waiter was very nice and accommodating. I'll be back again soon."

  • "We wanted a good, central place to meet friends on a busy Wed. nt. to try out some gluten-free dishes. Found P&P online, booked a rez thru OT; how hi-tech is that? Arrived early, but hostess knew who were were, didn't bat an eyelash: got us a table w/ lots of room & let us stay forever! GF menu looked great, especially the GF pasta & pizza - but opted for Lemon Pomagranate Risotto, w/ shrimp - to die for! Everyone raved & we ordered several desserts to share - yum! 12-yr.-old son ordered the Linguini w/ Clams & it had unexpected spicy peppers. He ate as much as he could but Jordan, the server, took it off the bill anyway, w/out even being asked. Excellent food & service - we're definitely going back."

  • "We we're a last minute group of 10 that showed up after 10pm. They handles perfectly, food was great, wine was great and we shut the place down. Staff was gracious."

  • "Our waiter Justin was superb -- very knowledgeable about wine selections and very helpful. My wife ordered the pork chop with polenta and chard, and I order the rib eye with mashed potatoes and brussel sprouts. My steak (medium rare) was cooked correctly but was somewhat cool and surprisingly tough. The brussel sprouts and potatoes were excellent. My wife's porkchop was very dry, but her polenta and chard were delicious. We wanted decaf coffee before we left, and the waiter provided it as complimentary, since we had to wait for a fresh pot to be brewed. We frequent P&P a lot, and generally enjoy our meals. This time the meat was not up to its normal standard."

  • "I've been here several times and have never been disappointed. I've been here with a group of adults, with just my husband and kids, and, this last time, with just my teenage daughter. Each time, the waitstaff have been friendly, helpful, and efficient, and the food has been great. I particularly like that they have a gluten free menu and offer gf pasta to go with any of their sauces."

  • "Everything was perfect. Perhaps the distance from the financial district plays role, but the spot is almost empty during the lunch hour. The food is amazing! sandwiches were made just right, tiramisu just melted in the mouth. But the best of all for me, self proclaimed coffee addict, was perfect cup of espresso to finish the lunch. I will be definitely coming back. I also loved the murals on the walls that are painted by one of the well known SF Mural artists!"

  • "We got an early reservations since we had ACT Theater tickets and wanted to take our time for dinner. We were very pleased to get a wonderful waiter (Kirk) and sit by the window where we could people watch. The food was just delicious and the wine very good. I highly recommend this wonderful Italian Restaurant close to Union Square and the theaters."

  • "Enjoyed our meals--sandwich and pasta--and saw a few others being served which I shall ttry next time. Lunch there before theter works great. Staff friendly--easy to converse and quick--but not rushed- service"

  • "We eat at Puccini and Pinetti regularly before plays in downtown San Francisco. The food and service are consistently good, and the staff make an effort to make dining there pleasant, even when the restaurant gets crowded. There are lots of travelers as well as locals, and sometimes the bar gets very noisy, and sometimes there are large noisy groups at the tables. Eating about 6:00 pre-theater usually is very pleasant."

  • "The good: fine range of food options from a choice of salads to meat dishes and pastas. The calamari fritti appetizer could be a light supper and is one of the best executions around. Complimentary tapenade is wonderful; served with a soft bread--should maybe be a sturdier type. Lengthy wine list, even half bottles and wines by the glass. Open kitchen makes a seat at the bar an education. The waitstaff is sensitive to the time constraints of theater goers. The not so good: Tuesday is happy hour at the bar all evening. The whole restaurant is enveloped in sound. This was our first visit on a Tuesday. Avoid on that night. Wines are pricey; cheapest two at $36 except for splits; should be possible to offer some choices under $30, esp in CA!"

  • "A perfect spot for before dinner meal. Especially enjoyed complimentary appetizer as elite open table user"

  • "Menu has lots of variety including a dedicated gluten-free menu and is a perfect spot for pre theatre dinner; not too rushed, a great value for the neighborhood and with just the right ambience. Not too upscale feeling or expensive, but not diner-ish either; the ideal balance."

  • "Although our overall experience was good, I wouldn't return because of the food - especially since it's surrounded by many other choices in Union Square. The one bright spot food wise was the calamari - very tasty and tender and fried perfectly. However, the meatballs were bland and the bolognese was too sweet."

  • "The main issue is that the back of the restaurant smells whenever the kitchen door opens. The hostess obviously had an attitude, We are a s a part of seven. Four adults and three tables in our section. children. We had a reservation and we were on time. She proceeded to seat us in a far back dark corner behind the kitchen door. We had to complain twice to be moved out of the dark and two tables over from the smelly kitchen door. The three children were better dressed than 80 percent of the clientele and we ]re quieter than 50 percent. The restaurant never filled. We were one of two tables in our section. Or waiter was very nice and helped change the mood. the food is acceptable."

  • "I got a pasta dish I can't pronounce, but it was really good! My boyfriend had the chicken marsala and it was EXCELLENT! A little pricey, they could be a few dollars cheaper per dish, but overall, they weren't too terribly overpriced. Close to union square too. we had reservations on valentines day for 5:30, but decided to see if we could get in early, and they did get us in! Service was quick, but not too pushy. Their apple pie martini was excellent as well. I would definetly recommend this place. I knew nothing about it when I made the reservation, except what I saw online here, so I'm really happy that it worked out"

  • "We came for lunch on a holiday and had very good pastas and shared a warm spinach salad. Although the place was not really crowded, the restaurant was still well staffed and we had a very attentive waiter so service was very good. Portions were good size and we had the option of ordering either a small or large portion sizes depending upon your appetite level."

  • "Our dinner on Valentine's Day was both a nice dinner for us as a couple and a family-friendly meal as we had our kids with us. Very happy with the food. Would certainly recommend. We also had breakfast there all 3 days of our trip and it was very reasonable and fast."

  • "Lousy bar service, but made up for it with a great waiter, Justin. Food was only fair. Our starters were toast and a serving of a tomato ragout. It tasted like sauce from a jar, cold. My husband had the steak. It was cooked correctly but he couldn't enjoy due to being overly spiced (too much pepper). I had linguini & clams. This too was overly spiced, it was overwhelmed with the flavor of capers. As though they dropped a bottle of them into broth. Awful."

  • "Cannot go wrong here if you want Italian food. Service seemed a little chaotic, slow at times, one dessert looked to be forgotten and had to be reordered. Food was good. Prices not too high for San Francisco."

  • "Friends in the Bay visiting their children-came up the peninsula and we came from the North Bay. Met at P&P for a lunch. He can be a very picky eater but he slicked up his plate of chicken marsala. Actually they both slicked their plates up. Wife and I split a pizza and salad; generous portions so we had some of both to take home. The 'za had sliced prosciutto and we'd have preferred that meat to have been cut into more bite-size pieces vs the longer slices. A little messy eating it but very good. Split a great tiramisu 3 ways and enjoyed it immensely. We might have chosen a more brunchy place but so many of them are no reservations and require waiting around outside--it was raining. P&P solved that issue."
