  • "When I made the reservation, I had requested a nice table since it was a birthday dinner and the first time dining here for someone from out of state. We ended up at a table in the middle of the dining room between two tables with children at both of them (one was being loud and fussy while the parent did nothing to calm her and the other table was very well behaved). I specifically left my children with a sitter so I could have a nice quiet dinner out. (So much for that.) Our waitress (Rachel) was very pleasant and the food was great. The atmosphere is pure New England charm and I would recommend dining here for anyone who likes that type of setting."

  • "The perfect night to spend with good friends who had never dined out at the Public House. Everything was just perfect, from our waitress to our meals to the ambience of the room. Our meals started with soup or the salad and ended with the blueberry pie for me, which was the best blueberry cream pie I had ever eaten and of course the pecan rolls are always a big hit! After our dining experience we enjoyed showing them some of the individual dining rooms that we had eaten in previously at Thanksgiving & Christmas. Thanks for a perfect dining experience with great friends."

  • "My wife asked to have her salmon grilled instead of pan fried. The chef was very accommodating and grilled the salmon to perfection. I enjoyed the roast turkey dinner immensely. The waitress staff, Chrissy and Shirley, were very friendly and attentive to our needs. All in all we had a wonderful experience and will definitely return."

  • "The Publick House in Sturbridge is an original 18th Century Inn which served the likes of John and Sam Adams and many other founders of our Nation. You walk into the Tap Room ( Main dining area) and the original exposed Beams and Hugh Fireplace will transport you back to a time when Horsepower came only from a horse and hospitality meant sitting down to a joint of Mutton, a glass of Port, and the company of many good friends. As we were being seated at our table, the fragrent smell of many roaring fires hinted at many warm, cozy evenings within these walls. Our lunch was served quickly, the menu was varied, but true to the colonial history of the Inn. Food quality was solid, well presented and flavors well balanced. Price moderate."

We all thoroughly enjoyed our meals, the ambience, and also the 80th birthday cake which we ordered through the restaurant. Our friends couldn't have been happier with their birthday outing!!   • "The family went here for Fathers Day after visiting Old Sturbridge Village and the wonderful comfort food menu pleased everyone. Roast turkey dinner, pot roast and lobster pie were all excellent. The young waitress couldn't keep straight who had which wine so we kept getting each others' orders.   • "My wife and I came here on our recent vacation to Sturbridge and we made reservations on Open Table months ago. We sat in the main dining hall area on the second floor. Our server, Micah, was prompt and polite and very professional. Our appetizers were delicious and we finished both of them. Our entree were also extremely delicious. I had the lobster mac and cheese and it had a tremendous amour of lobster meat, more than most other places. My wife had the lobster pie and it was the same with that. We would definitely come again."

We like to go here for special occasions. It is a bit noisey when there are a lot of people in the dining room, but otherwise we love it and consider it one of our favorite places in New England."

  • "My spinach salad was very good. The terriaki steak was slightly tough. Many of the entres are traditional and in gravy or sauced which I don't like. Those who had fish and chips liked them very much. I'm not a fan of anything deep fried so avoided them. Service is top notch both in the restaurant at lunch and in the tavern for a light supper. The onion soup in the tavern was great and fortunately not over salted. What I did miss was some good crusty bread to go with the soup. Our guests liked the sticky buns and corn bread. I would definitely recommend this place for lunch and a late supper. "

  • "Been to the Publick House perhaps 10-12 times over the years, starting when our children were young perhaps 25 years ago. The food is basic, not for foodies. But the colonial ambience is sometimes nice. The sticky buns are always in the bread baskets so there's that. They no longer put out relish dishes (apparently they stopped doing this a few years ago). Don't go to the Publick House for the food. Go for the experience... and the slow service. And of course if the bakery is open you can pick up corn bread and even more sticky buns."

  • "We really enjoyed dining at the Publick House. The portions were unbelieveable! The food was very good. The food was on the plain side which was good for me, I prefer tasting the food I eat. The bread basket was like dessert! I thought that for the prices of the food to have paper placemats was tacky. The noise level was also to high for us. With that said I would definitely go back though. I enjoyed it that much."

  • "For the price of the food I expected much more. The food was lukewarm at best and seriously under seasoned. We ordered the Turkey dinner which came with gravy that was so cold it didn't pour. The desserts looked amazing but it stopped there, they were flavorless. The molten lava cake was like eating fudge and had NO molt. The service was excellent. The ambience was off the charts. I might return again for the experience not the food. Lunch cost the 4 of us $160 w/tip, desserts and no Alcohol. Can you say outrageous! At least at those prices I expect my food to be hot. On the way out we each bought something at the fabulous bakery for another $15. Again, no flavor and much of the stuff was old and stale. Maybe I wouldn't go back after all!"

  • "We had booked the Publick House one month in advance for a family get together. Despite the fact that the reservations a month in advance, upon arrival we had to wait while they 'put some tables together'. We were shuffled into a function room with stark white lighting, scratched tables and rickety chairs. I can only liken the experience as 'diner like'. If fact, there was a telephone in the room that was constantly ringing. The service was slow . The desserts came from the 'bakery' and were billed separately. The meal was OK but not worth the $30/meal -- cold upon arrival. The entire experience was overpriced, poorly managed and no atmosphere. I felt like a third class citizen paying first class prices. Would not recommend it."

The. evening's special, swordfish, was ordered by 2 people and it was so tough they both sent it back and ordered the salmon. The location was the best part of the evening because it provided a meeting place for 2 families coming from opposit ends of the state. The wait staff was also excellent."

  • "We live in NY and my sister is near Boston. The Publick House was perfect choice for a lunch. We all loved the pub-like atmosphere and the roaring fire gave the room a wonderful ambiance. Our servor was attentive and cheerful, food was tasty and the bread pudding yummie. My daughter would like the BBLT bread to have been toasted more but not a big deal.   • "Party of 6 Slow service, maybe our waiter had too tables or the kitchen was slow. My steak was cold and I couldn't find my waiter to tell him about it. So, I had to flag down the hostess to let her know. They solved the problem to my satisfaction. It appeared that everybody else in the party had no issues. ."
