I have been to this restaurant several times and I do enjoy it. It has decent food and a nice atmosphere whether going out with adults hanging at the bar or a family night with the kids. Unfortunately my last experience I was told after making an Open Table Reservation that they could not honor the reservation because it was too busy and we would have to wait an hour to be seated. ???? Isn't that what Open Table is all about, making a reservation so when you show up you are seated in somewhat of close proximity to the time you reserved. I was told they couldn't keep up with the volume of people and didn't have time to update the Open Table system. I say then get off this service and only take phone reservations and walk-ins.

I was so excited to go to Publick house. We went after a day of apple picking.. We had reservations but ended up getting there an hour early. They said they would seat us right away if our entire party was there.. We were all there and it still took 1/2 hour to seat us but that's understandable with the popularity of the restaurant. First we were told they ran out of Chicken Fingers and Wings...With 5 kids this was NOT what we wanted to hear. Mind you it was only 5:30pm on a Sunday and they were out already. Service (meaning when our food came out) was extremely slow. We placed out food order and waited at least 20 minutes before the first bit of food was served. The waitress was very pleasant but that did not make up for the delay

This was my first time at this establishment and I can honestly say I am not sure I would go back. When we first walked in there was no one at the host desk. We waited for a few minutes for who appeared to be the manager to ask if we were being help then we waited some more while he seated the 4 people that were waiting for a table prior to us. When we finally got seated we waited for almost 10 minutes before the waitress even came over to the table to acknowledge us. Long story short, the meatball appetizers were salty, small and awful for $10 and the pizza just was not worth the wait. I would like to say I'd recommend someone to the place only to see if their experience was any different but not because it's a good place.

We've eaten at the Publick House before. The entertainment they have is good, but I think the crowd is more of a lower key, Michael Andrew type music. Food is decent. Inside of the restaurant is really nice..warm and rustic. Service was ok..we had a server who was relatively new, and a bit cocky which was a tad annoying.

Menu is slight, the food was excellent and the service was on top, the menu was like a bar choice not very elaborate. I was looking for a brunch type something and didn't find it. The setting is good. the History and the building was breathtaking. I would return and the quality is there.

My friend and I have a late lunch after attending the local craft fair on Saturday. We sat in the bar area which was extremely noisy, so I would have preferred a table in another area of the restaurant. Service was timely and friendly. Excellent white pizza and we were able to substitue toppings. Wine prices a little high. However, we would return.

The meal was not very exciting. I had a beet salad that was eatable but nothing I would recommend to any one, my husband had a crock of Onion Soup that was sub par. We both had fish dishes which I would have made better at home. I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone for dinner, perhaps it is better for lunch. The atmosphere was rather boring it could be quite quaint since it is a historic building. The service was fine.

I brought three friends with me to listen to the band, Swindle and eat here. Everyone loved their food. Unfortunately, I had to bring my own gluten free pasta as they have no gluten free items. The chef was accomodating and added broccoli rabe to my already prepared by me pasta. I was grateful for that.

I'd love to be able to say this is a great place, but unfortunately, the only thing I love about the Publick House, is the location and the building's charm. The food is only OK, nothing to write home about, and while the wait staff is very sweet, and helpful, they're also in need of training (management issue, not a wait staff issue). As I said, the food is nothing to write home about, definitely no WOW factor. We were there on a night they were only offering a limited menu (wish we had been told prior to being seated), but even the simple dishes were mediocre. Taking a classic dish and putting your own spin on it, fantastic… Taking that dish and making it unrecognizable, not so much.

This visit to the Public House was not the kind of experience I was looking for - it was loud, crowded, and the service was far from acceptable. Our meals did not come to us as ordered - even a glass of water did not come as ordered. I realize there was an event going on the day we ate there and I don't feel the place was staffed properly. I have had good dining experiences there in the past but this time was far from it.

I had eggplant Parm that came served with a side of ziti with tomato sauce that tasted like it came out of a can and wasn't even seasoned. Presentation was poor. Side salad was extra. Coffee was like warm and tasted like it was leftover from yesterday. Dinner and one drink shouldn't cost $50/pp. I was not impressed and I won't be back.

We had a 7 pm reservation for 7 people. Our table was cozy (if we were all bigger people, the table would not have been comfy). The server, Sarah, was very friendly and accommodating, considering 2 in our party were quite late. The beer situation was a bit confusing - I guess since they change the beers so often, they don't have a printed list, but that makes it difficult to know what is on tap, and we are beer people! The food itself was all tasty. Nothing spectacular, but good. I got the white pizza and it had a bit too much mozzarella in relationship to the ricotta, which is normally the star of a white pizza. The biggest issue was NOT the food or the service...it was the fact that it felt like it was 80+ degrees in the dining room!

outstanding service and not rushed out the door. I met up with a friend whom I had not spent time with in a couple of years. We go there before the crowds, ~6pm, and left after the place was hopping, about 2 hrs later, despite we were comfortable spending the time we needed to catch up on things. We had dinner which was excellent, and a bottle of champagne. Great friend and family atmosphere, lively and active.

I was really looking forward to a nice dinner with the family and chose the Publick house because it has a good ambience and is kid friendly. I was disappointed with the herb chicken I ordered which I found to be dry, but didn't want to ruin anyone else's experience. AT the end of our meal when I asked my husband and mom how their meal was they thought is was just okay. I feel this restaurant is hit or miss. I've yet to be wowed by their food. Maybe that is why I don;t frequent the place.

We had not been to The Publick House for dinner for quite some time (probably years) because we had remembered the food/service as not being that good. We were pleasantly surprised with our recent visit that this is no longer true. Our experience was excellent---service was fast, friendly and professional---just perfect!! Our meals, which ranged from the pizza to the specialty dishes, were all delicious and served in a timely manner. The atmosphere was comfortable and cozy in the fireplace dining room and even though all the tables were filled the noise level was fine. We will definitely go back!

The Publick House is both historic and charming. After spending some time exploring the shops in Chester, we were ready for lunch. We had a table by the fireplace in one of the several dining rooms, all of which are beautifully decorated. It appears to be llaced in an araea that normally is not used, on the main aile right in front if the wood fire pizza station. Constant parade of patrons and servers picking up bread. We were done in 30 minutes and out. In my 26 years of new years eve's this by far was the worst expierence.

My husband and I have dined here many times over the past few months. We've enjoyed it every time. We came this week to celebrate our 2 year anniversary, but needed a quick meal since we brought our 2 week old. We had a quiet table in a corner where our baby was secure. Our server was Ryan and he was efficient and personable. We shared the arugula salad as we usually do and we each ordered a burger. Overall an enjoyable meal.

We were a party of 8 for a late lunch (2:30pm) on a Sunday. One person's pizza arrived 30 minutes before the rest of the meals, and we're not sure why it took 50 minutes for 4 salads, 2 kids meals and a pulled pork sandwich. The salads were side salad size, and consisted of light green romaine and soggy tomatoes. After our first round of drinks we had to hunt someone down to bring more, and yet again to ask for water. The manager's best response to our inquiries about our food was, "I'm working on it". The two tables next to us were seated after us and had their food long before us. It was really disappointing after a fun family day of pumpkin picking, especially since the building it absolutely beautiful and charming.

My wife and I made a reservation for our wedding anniversary. When we arrived, the hostess attempted to seat us in a room full of little kids who were running around the tables. We had to ask for another table. Everything was slow. My wife ordered tiliapia, and was told 20 minutes later that they ran out. She ordered another entree. When the food came out they brought TILAPIA! The refills on our drinks came out in plastic cups. When I paid the bill, the waitress disappeared for 15 minutes with my credit card. I had to go find her to get it back. Not the happy occasion I planned for. I can't recommend this restaurant.
