The meal was not very exciting. I had a beet salad that was eatable but nothing I would recommend to any one, my husband had a crock of Onion Soup that was sub par. We both had fish dishes which I would have made better at home. I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone for dinner, perhaps it is better for lunch. The atmosphere was rather boring it could be quite quaint since it is a historic building. The service was fine.

I brought three friends with me to listen to the band, Swindle and eat here. Everyone loved their food. Unfortunately, I had to bring my own gluten free pasta as they have no gluten free items. The chef was accomodating and added broccoli rabe to my already prepared by me pasta. I was grateful for that.

I'd love to be able to say this is a great place, but unfortunately, the only thing I love about the Publick House, is the location and the building's charm. The food is only OK, nothing to write home about, and while the wait staff is very sweet, and helpful, they're also in need of training (management issue, not a wait staff issue). As I said, the food is nothing to write home about, definitely no WOW factor. We were there on a night they were only offering a limited menu (wish we had been told prior to being seated), but even the simple dishes were mediocre. Taking a classic dish and putting your own spin on it, fantastic… Taking that dish and making it unrecognizable, not so much.

This visit to the Public House was not the kind of experience I was looking for - it was loud, crowded, and the service was far from acceptable. Our meals did not come to us as ordered - even a glass of water did not come as ordered. I realize there was an event going on the day we ate there and I don't feel the place was staffed properly. I have had good dining experiences there in the past but this time was far from it.

I had eggplant Parm that came served with a side of ziti with tomato sauce that tasted like it came out of a can and wasn't even seasoned. Presentation was poor. Side salad was extra. Coffee was like warm and tasted like it was leftover from yesterday. Dinner and one drink shouldn't cost $50/pp. I was not impressed and I won't be back.

We had a 7 pm reservation for 7 people. Our table was cozy (if we were all bigger people, the table would not have been comfy). The server, Sarah, was very friendly and accommodating, considering 2 in our party were quite late. The beer situation was a bit confusing - I guess since they change the beers so often, they don't have a printed list, but that makes it difficult to know what is on tap, and we are beer people! The food itself was all tasty. Nothing spectacular, but good. I got the white pizza and it had a bit too much mozzarella in relationship to the ricotta, which is normally the star of a white pizza. The biggest issue was NOT the food or the service...it was the fact that it felt like it was 80+ degrees in the dining room!

Went to the Publick House for live music last Friday night. Haven't been there in 25 years and it's still a great place for drinks, "bar food" and performances by live local musicians...If the Publick House keeps featuring quality live music, I'll keep going back.

outstanding service and not rushed out the door. I met up with a friend whom I had not spent time with in a couple of years. We go there before the crowds, ~6pm, and left after the place was hopping, about 2 hrs later, despite we were comfortable spending the time we needed to catch up on things. We had dinner which was excellent, and a bottle of champagne. Great friend and family atmosphere, lively and active.

I was really looking forward to a nice dinner with the family and chose the Publick house because it has a good ambience and is kid friendly. I was disappointed with the herb chicken I ordered which I found to be dry, but didn't want to ruin anyone else's experience. AT the end of our meal when I asked my husband and mom how their meal was they thought is was just okay. I feel this restaurant is hit or miss. I've yet to be wowed by their food. Maybe that is why I don;t frequent the place.

We had not been to The Publick House for dinner for quite some time (probably years) because we had remembered the food/service as not being that good. We were pleasantly surprised with our recent visit that this is no longer true. Our experience was excellent---service was fast, friendly and professional---just perfect!! Our meals, which ranged from the pizza to the specialty dishes, were all delicious and served in a timely manner. The atmosphere was comfortable and cozy in the fireplace dining room and even though all the tables were filled the noise level was fine. We will definitely go back!

The Publick House is both historic and charming. After spending some time exploring the shops in Chester, we were ready for lunch. We had a table by the fireplace in one of the several dining rooms, all of which are beautifully decorated. For us it was a delightful treat to find such a place with great food and creative specialty drinks, where we could spend a cozy and warm afternoon with friends.

We arrived on time and were seated at a high table (not a normal dinning room table). It appears to be llaced in an araea that normally is not used, on the main aile right in front if the wood fire pizza station. Constant parade of patrons and servers picking up bread. We were done in 30 minutes and out. In my 26 years of new years eve's this by far was the worst expierence.

Even simple fare doesn't come out great, but a good wait staff and excellent historic atmosphere. I went with three friends and no food came out that was worth raving about. Actually, a bit sub par, but good wine and company made up for it. The place is not cheap, so you would expect better food. If you want tasty, then try the local competition.

My husband and I have dined here many times over the past few months. We've enjoyed it every time. We came this week to celebrate our 2 year anniversary, but needed a quick meal since we brought our 2 week old. We had a quiet table in a corner where our baby was secure. Our server was Ryan and he was efficient and personable. We shared the arugula salad as we usually do and we each ordered a burger. Overall an enjoyable meal.

We were a party of 8 for a late lunch (2:30pm) on a Sunday. One person's pizza arrived 30 minutes before the rest of the meals, and we're not sure why it took 50 minutes for 4 salads, 2 kids meals and a pulled pork sandwich. The salads were side salad size, and consisted of light green romaine and soggy tomatoes. After our first round of drinks we had to hunt someone down to bring more, and yet again to ask for water. The manager's best response to our inquiries about our food was, "I'm working on it". The two tables next to us were seated after us and had their food long before us. It was really disappointing after a fun family day of pumpkin picking, especially since the building it absolutely beautiful and charming.

Beautiful restaurant but do not go during any Chester event. It was crowded, noisy and they served our salad without the shrimp topping we ordered. When we were leaving we saw a waiter bringing shrimp to others...what's up with that? We have been there at other times and it is a nice place to eat but it seems the kitchen could not handle the volume this past weekend.

My wife and I made a reservation for our wedding anniversary. When we arrived, the hostess attempted to seat us in a room full of little kids who were running around the tables. We had to ask for another table. Everything was slow. My wife ordered tiliapia, and was told 20 minutes later that they ran out. She ordered another entree. When the food came out they brought TILAPIA! The refills on our drinks came out in plastic cups. When I paid the bill, the waitress disappeared for 15 minutes with my credit card. I had to go find her to get it back. Not the happy occasion I planned for. I can't recommend this restaurant.

Overall we enjoyed our first visit to Publick House. The food was good, the place is nice inside and our waiter Ryan was superb. However, we were surprised at the number of items that were off the menu because they had run out of supplies......no wings, no chicken parm, no mussels, no salmon, no asparagus...the list went on and on....and to crown it all off...no soup! Who runs out of soup! I was embarassing for poor Ryan and we had a laugh with him about it but seriously, whoever is in charge of stock and supplies needs help. We heard folks at other tables complaining too. The manager was very apologetic and did compensate us with a round of drinks and free desserts but come on Publick House...that's a lot of money you're losing out on.

On a recommendation from my friend, we visited the Publick House for dinner last week. The setting and ambience was nice enough, but problems started almost immediately after being seated. The table wasn't fully set (there where no knives) and it took over 10 minutes to get our drink order (no exaggeration). When our drinks finally arrived, we were given the excuse that the bar was busy (which we could see wasn't). The food, when it finally arrived was very good. However, they forgot my wife's entree order (she ordered the grilled shrimp) and when she did get it, she got 5 shrimp in a bowl with nothing else! They comped us some gelatos and didn't ultimately charge for the shrimp entree, but it was too little too late.

Very nice place in a quaint area. Delicious burgers, not-so-good vodka pasta (tasted like buttered tomato sauce, no zing), passable fra diavolo sauce and mediocre sangria. We saw quite a few what looked like regulars ordering all kinds of things, so maybe we just didn't know what to order. I would come here once more to give it a go--it was too interesting a place to not give it another try. Our waiter was nice and enthusiastic but not efficient...quite forgetful, actually. And the tabletop in the bar area was different--every time you put something wet on the table, it would stain then dry. Thought that was kind of odd. (You know you're not impressed with the food if you are noticing the wet rings.)
