Diner Reviews
  • "great atmosphere my steak could have been served hotter rest of the food was outstanding"
    Dined on 4/6/2014
  • "This restaurant has great ambiance with it's hewn-stone walls and dark timbers. Great contrast to the white tablecloths and shining tableware. But it's not intimidating. The bar is well-stocked and the patrons friendly, Food was very good and the menu is interesting. From fresh and natural fish dishes to comfort food steaks, this place has it. A little pricey, but worth it. Tucked away just outside of downtown Lockport, this is a little gem for a romantic dinner. Wait staff is terrific! Very attentive and helpful. Make a reservation and get there before the crowd hits!"

  • "We "happened upon" Public Landing while out running on the nature path behind it. Great ambiance, wonderful "re-use" of an historic property, food is very good and the wait staff couldn't be nicer."

  • "Our first, but not last, visit to the Public Landing was wonderful. My husband and I took my mother there for a birthday lunch. What a lovely treat for us all."

  • "We celebrated my daughter's. 36th birthday there last week. I never knew it existed. Because the food, ambience being a historical bldg from the 1800's, and a very polite wait staff; we will likely return. It is a special place for a special occasion"

  • "Public landing is one of the best restaurants in the greater Lockport region. Located in the historic Gaylord Building, it has a warm and inviting ambiance. The staff is always friendly and the food is outstanding. In the summer, the outdoor patio area is "dog friendly", so you can bring your pooch to dine with you. It's very much fun. Highly recommended."

  • "Excellent environment, great service, above average food."

  • "The setting was perfect for us. We had a quiet lovely dinner we were able to converse without dishes banging and loud conversation from others."

  • "A great historic restaurant in downtown Lockport. The food was great. The service was outstanding. We were celebrating a birthday and were there for lunch. We will return for dinner one day."

  • "Public Landing is our go-to place for special occasions. We love the food, always creatively prepared and delicious, with an attentive and friendly staff. The historic building gives it a unique atmosphere and if the museum is open you get to learn something about the building of the I&M canal."

  • "Good fish fry dining on a Friday night. It seemed on the pricey side especially for any of the cocktails in this location. Overall nice experience in a great restored building and a historical area of Lockport. We would go back."

  • "My friend and I went to nursing school 30 years ago and get together annually to catch up on our lives as working nurses! The steak frite was outstanding, the server was attentive but did not rush us at all. The dessert was delicious! Thank you."

  • "I love the atmosphere here. The service is always good. Our only glitch was that two of the meals came out cold, but they were quickly reheated. The chef prepares some mid week specials that are just excellent. He also prepared fish in a bag that we requested but was not on the menu. We will definitely return."

  • "What a wonderful find. We loved it the moment we seen the buliding and the grounds. It is so beautiful. We live so close by and with much regret this was the only time we went to Public Landing. The wait staff was so friendly and attentive. The food was excellent!! The moment we entered the room we were greeted so warmly. We will be going to Public Landing often and highly recommend it."

  • "All four of us enjoyed the food and the waiter was outstanding. He understood the special needs of one in our party, and explained the food content."

  • "Loved it! As a local resident, I don't always think about dining locally. We had a group of 9 for a confirmation celebration and had an excellent experience. The food was great, our server was fast and friendly and the host even arranged for us to get seated early when we arrived before our reservation. Highly recommend!"

  • "Dine at lunch and had the fish special. It was very good, lightly coated. Also, a small salad, perfect portion, with dressing on the side. Our server had many tables which affected prompt service at our table and short attention in menu questions. The dessert serving was large and easily could be shared by four. Don't understand the charge for sharing when the entrees are small but adequate for a meal."

  • "I would highly recommend this restaurant! The pot roast was amazing and the service was great! I will be back:)"

  • "Always wanted to come here, enjoyed the pot roast dinner, enough to bring home for lunch. Pretzel bread was great. Waitress very nice and wished me a Happy Birthday several times. Brought me ice cream with a candle since my Husband had the 4 course meal which included dessert. He also enjoyed his meal, Looking forward to coming back again."

  • "We were there at 7:30 on a Saturday. There were a couple of people at the bar, and when I say "a couple" I mean two, but literally no one else was eating. The restaurant smelled musty and was completely empty. Steaks were good, but certain veggies were obviously canned and should not have been served. This is the second time I've been here for dinner and the place was empty. I don't know how they stay in business. We won't be back."

  • "The chef is especially good with soups and sauces, but the food overall is always good. I like that the portions are sufficient without being huge. There are always interesting choices - and many will introduce you to a food that you thought you knew in a somewhat new way. It's a bit of a drive for us, but well worth it."

  • "It was our anniversary and I wanted to surprise my wife with an evening that would hopefully promise a warm intimate setting with good food, a pleasing atmosphere, and warmth. Public Landing didn't disappoint. We arrived 30 minutes ahead of our reservation because I was concerned about the cold snowy weather slowing us down. We were seated right away and our waiter immediately provided us with menus while one of the servers poured our water. Within minutes he was back to take our beverage orders and brief us on the evening specials. We didn't wait long for our order to be taken. As we sipped our wine we discussed the ambience of the restaurant. Our food came out within a reasonable and everything was prepared to perfection. We will be back."

  • "We love this restaurant set in an old historic building along the canal in Lockport. Nice for a special occasion or just a nice relaxing dinner. Good food. Good service. You'll want to go back again!"

  • "Food was generally good, although pork chops were dry with very scant maple glaze. Salmon was undercooked on thicker portions. Desserts are very small but delicious, not ideal for sharing. Service is good and friendly. Ambience is relaxing with beautiful interior. I will return, hope for a better experience."

  • "The cocktails we had are very genious. My manhattans were served in a tub like the old days. I don't know what they cost but it was a drink worth having. The strip steak I had was as good a steak as I every had even on the level of those over priced steak joints downtown. Can wait to come back."

  • "The Public Landing always gets rave reviews from people I know who've gone there for the food, atmosphere, and view. The awesome thing about this place is that you'll always get those things no matter when you go but every now and then you have the chance to make the experience extra special like the night I went. I took a date for dinner and we were seated near the window at night with a perfect view outside. It happened to be a cold and snowy night around Christmastime. There were lights on the trees, there was snow falling and on the ground, and the atmosphere could not be more perfect for a romantic dinner. The food was amazing as usual, our server was very nice and attentive, and we couldn't have asked for a better experience."

  • "very good food, small but well-selected spirits and bottled beer list, very friendly staff, in a beautiful historic building. we went on a cold night, and the temperature in the dining room was a bit on the cool side, but otherwise no complaints. the bone-in pork chops were great, and my brother raved about his chicken schnitzel. the menu overall has a nice range of midwestern american staples, including liver and onions, which my aunt visiting from san diego found to be a rare treat."

  • "I took my wife there for our anniversary. It was our first time there and it was wonderful. From the moment we walked in you felt like an old friend. My steak was cooked perfectly. My wifes fish was wonderful. And the setting? Absolutely beautiful. Its in a building from the 1800s. Such awesome history. Decorated very nicely. We will definitely be going back."

  • "This was not our first visit. We look forward to the knowledgeable wait staff, the tables with real table cloths and flowers and of course to our meal. We try to order something a little different and usually order salads. IT is a wonderful restaurant."
