I made a reservation because we had somewhere to get to, and it can get crowded. Not crowded enough to justify them calling me 3, *three*, times to confirm in two days. Next time, I'll pick somewhere less needy.

  • Sunny Networking Lunch on Patio

    Dined on 9/23/2013
I met a friend for a networking lunch and we ate outside on the patio. It was a nice lunch, we both had salads, and it was overall a good experience. The scenery and ambiance was open and nice, with a view of the Trump Tower. I had the grilled chicken Caesar salad, and I was not impressed with the chicken....It was cubed and not particularly flavorful. I've had much better chicken. But the rest of the experience was good, server was helpful and friendly.

Decided to meet up with a friend to do some business and drinking so we chose this place and it was a hit! First and foremost is always the quality of customer service. And they are great! Very polite, nice, and not too pushy. Next is the drinks. And the special beer was fantastic! Food is always a plus at a bar. And they did very well. The guacamole was very different with peaches and salads were very good. Great place!

The restaurant decor is great inside and out; however, both orders came out wrong and the ribs were extremely dry. Although service was efficient, it was not really note worthy. I will most likely return to Public House but for drinks only.

  • Great Brunch, Bad Bouncer

We came for brunch last weekend and had bad first experience with the doorman/bouncer. I walked into the Public House to check in with the host, and huge man jumped in front of me and barked something. I didn't understand him, so I just said Hi. He responded with one word:'ID!!'. I wasn't expecting to be stopped at 11AM to show my ID. It's not a club, so I don't understand why they would need a rude bouncer demanding IDs at 11AM. The server was nice and the food was good, but I don't think we'll return.

Came here the first day they served brunch and was impressed with the meal! Everything was served in a good amount of time, all of our dishes tasted good, no delays! Spanish benedict is a fun spin on a typical benedict, although the masa could have been lighter (too heavy for the heavy brisket). Portions are generously sized! Bloody Maries mixed very well. Kobe brisket melted in your mouth, the waffles in the chicken and waffles dish were fantastic (dense and tasty, nothing basic about them!), and omelette also made perfectly to order.

Let me start by saying we frequent PH, live only a few blocks away, and love the overall scene (bar atmosphere, food options, staff friendliness, etc). So, another great option in River North, but plenty others are better. Their brunch has plenty or room for improvement. First, River North is nowhere to seek a great value, but $6 for three small strips of "thick cut" bacon..? Maybe, but you have to deliver a product better than something you'd find on a cheap cheeseburger (and, nothing thick about it). Mimosa was 99% champagne, the Bloody Mary was decent. Doughnut fried French toast was so so (creme sauce very good) /chorizo burrito was good (and big). Forgot/wanted to try homemade Twinkie (no mention). Mgr solicited feed--nice touch

This was a fun place to drink and grab some bar food with a few friends. We reserved a table with a beer tap in it - something this place is known for, as it's a bit of a novelty. We had three taps directly at our table: Bud Light, Hoegaarden and, believe it or not, Absolut Vodka. Yes, there was vodka on tap at our table... anyway, it was a fun experience to continuously fill up our own glasses while we chatted, watched some soccer on the big screen and had some better-than-average bar food.

While this place may have "peaked" in the "hot spot" cycle, with Siena Tavern & others sprouting up in the neighborhood, it is still a great, energetic & fun spot with excellent high end pub food. Highly recommended.

Showed a little early for an 11:45 reservation on a Monday. Reservation for 5 but only 3 of us were there at 11:40. There was no one at the restaurant when we arrived yet they would not seat us til the entire party arrived. An odd policy in an empty restaurant. I was entertaining clients and it was a bit embarrassing to have to stand around an empty restaurant for 10 minutes. The food is excellent. The Half Chicken is outstanding. Great beer selection and lots of T.V.'s. I like this place. Really my only complaint is having to stand around an empty restaurant until entire party arrived.

The Queso Fundido appetizer was delicious ~ I would go back just for this. The sandwiches & fries were good ~ nothing extraordinary. We had an awesome waitress & the service was attentive. They have several very nice bar areas. They played some great music while the sports stations were set on the televisions. For a restaurant with TV's & music, it was not loud at all. You could carry on conversation easily. Will go back for drinks & appetizers.

    OpenTable Diner Since 2005

We went hoping to try some of their draft beers. We had tried a number of these beers already, and unfortunately many of the ones that they were out of were what we would have liked to try. (Including their monthly house special brew) The food itself was typical bar food--nothing special. It seemed energetic and sports oriented, but perhaps putting the closed captioning on at least 1 of the 3 tvs in our area showing the same ESPN recap show would have been helpful.

Table was not ready when we arrived, had to wait 15 minutes after the reservation time. Order the skirt steak rare and it came out medium rare, which is fine since it is such a thin cut of meat. It was impossible to chew though, and since I was on a blind date I would have felt very awkward sending it back.

Certainly a strong newcomer in the beer-centric gastropub market. Food was very good but the beer list is truly exceptional, and this comes from a beer snob. That said, my wine-drinking pals also found ample selection too. Definitely a hot spot on the scene, with frequent celeb spottings too.
