A word from Provisions
A dining room built around a pivotal instrumental element, a mammoth wood- burning oven designed to churn out anything with smoky traces and a pizza-like crust. All urban rusticity, patrons will find themselves in a convivial space where confident food is served in a relaxed atmosphere.
/>Subtle and polished, “Provisions” aims to serve properly sourced ingredients through thoughtful presentation. Whether dining at the bar where expert cocktails and a broad wine list are available to wash down seasonal menu items, or seated in the lush outdoor patio, diners will witness pizzas made with good ingredients married well, roasted meats, and fresh pastas surfacing from a wood fired oven, all cooked in hot fragrant smoke.

Diner Reviews
  • "One thousand times out of one thousand, Hunter S. Thompson would approve of this magnificent restaurant."

  • "Went twice to this restaurant, on the 14th and on the 18th with different guests. On the 14th, we got superb service and food. On the 18th, we were 15 minutes late and were immediately made aware that the next guests would be there by 9:15 (it was 7:30 when we got there). Service proceeded at a very fast pace, main courses arrived while we still having appetizers, server did not offer to refill our drinks. I had exactly the same dish on both occasions: rabbit agnolotti. The first time they had a nice lemony finish, the second they were incredibly salty. These inconsistencies are inexcusable. On a previous occasion, the Ras-el-ranout pear dessert was inconsistently presented, few pieces of cake crumbs once, the second with large amounts. "

  • "The first time at Provisions we shared the 'whole roasted foie gras' with friends which was amazing. This time we started with it the 'Ham of the day' which was Prosciutto Di Parma and was wonderful. For entrees we had the caramelized onion pizza-Yum. The Ramp Linguini with clams and bacon was also delicious but a bit salty. We also had the Rabbit Agnolotti which I didn't try but received a fair rating. We finished with the Bananas Foster bread which was good but not killer. Overall we enjoyed it because the ambiance is fun, the food innovative, and the service stellar. I would like to give it 4.5 stars because these gentlemen are very talented and we'll definitely be back to try the other items on he menu."

  • "We are out-of-town diners who have had Pass and Provisions on our wish list for some time now. While we were not able to frequent The Pass, we had an excellent experience at Provisions! The pizza was some of the best I've had, with the perfect crust, excellent flavor, and flavorful balance. The cocktails were quite the treat, as well. We went back Saturday (after a brunch at a different restaurant) for cocktails. The tangy bloody mary definitely quenched my cravings. I would have bought just the garnish if I had enough room to fit anymore food in my belly. We're big fans! Well done! Hopefully we will be back to check out The Pass."

  • "Finally made it although we live in the neighborhood, The place is visually interesting- love the reused gym floor on the walls and the tables hanging on poles and held in place by cables. The service was attentive and pleasent. We had a cheese, tomato and onion pizza, red snappper and arugula salad- all very tasty. It was not crowded when we arrived at 7 pm but a large table arrived toward the end and I can imagine when full the noise level would be high."

  • "This is perfect food in a perfect setting. Quirky a little and relaxed. Went with a group of 6 and a toddler. Everyone loved it. Pizza was AMAZEBALLS. Loved all the recycled elements. The basketball court wall, the paint bucket wine cooler. The music."

  • "The menu seemed to be more interested in demonstrating gastronomic virtuosity than in just providing a good dining experience ... more interested in impressing other chefs than in satisfying the average customer. Definitely a "fit for foodies" place. Although the food we had e.g., roasted clams, was very well prepared and quite tasty, this is a place I would visit more to talk about food than just to eat."

  • "An awesome menu of very delicious and creative food. Loved the presentation as well, but it tasted even better. Cocktails are killer."

  • "I had dined before but it was my boyfriends first time there - we LOVED getting to dine at the "pass" and talk to the chef. It was simply wonderful. Cannot wait to go back."

  • "My wife and I went here for dinner on a Tuesday night. We ordered some cocktails and ordered a decent 60-80 dollar Pinot and ordered a few items. Things were good until they sat a VIP table next to us. From this point on it was bad. The salad and pizza where dropped by other waiters which is no problem but we never had contact with our waiter. We finished, others cleaned the table, I poured us more wine and still no contact. finally he comes back and we order one more item thinking perhaps he just got very weeded. This was the last time we saw him until the end of our meal. I asked for the check which he did not even drop at our table nor did he run our card. Great food and the service ruined the night."

  • "Breads remain excellent, we had for different pasta dishes all outstanding, I loved my rabbit agnolotti, i have to admit that both bread servings and pasta (dinner) portions were somewhat small. They could be a bit more generous. Dessert innovation continues."

  • "Houston needs more restaurants like this!!! Outstanding!!"

  • "Great food, great vibe--the restroom is a must visit, too. Can't recommend this place enough. That said, the wine list is very esoteric. They really need to add more new world wines to appeal to the majority of wine customers. Overheard several comment from customers and the nature of the wine list seems to be driving folks to other choices (like beer and iced-tea)."

  • "Perfect location and perfect menu for a generous bite and delicious cocktail before an event like the opera downtown. You are encouraged to share the menu and this works very well. Bread and cheese starter is a little on the smaller size. I would go for a pizza to start instead. The banana bread dessert on the other hand was quite generous and fantastic to share."

  • "Great dinner, wonderful staff. Creative and delicious food."

  • "We loved their creativity-- putting things together that one wouldn't have expected. At times, it seemed that they were trying to cram way too many funky ingredients into one dish-- the beet cake dessert didn't get any added bang by having a piece of chocolate on top-- BUT, wow, gotta admire the great things they're doing-- it's like a bunch of kids in a toy store-- More than A+ for effort and fun!"

  • "I brought a date here last night and we were both suitably impressed. We shared a variety of dishes that were served at appropriate intervals - we weren't rushed with the next plate nor did we have to wait long between plates. Our meal included the Pretzel Epi with Raclette and the American Serrano ham, the Arugula-Cress Salad, the Beef Shortrib Tortelloni, the Hamachi Crudo, the Gulf Snapper, and ended with the Cider Donut with Apple Streusel. We weren't quite ready to try the beet cake, but we thoroughly enjoyed every course. Service was excellent with the servers promptly offering fresh drinks without being intrusive. All in all it made for a very enjoyable evening."

  • "Another great meal at Provisions. We had the pizza with mozzarella and tomatoes, which was great. Also, the Caesar Salad, which is a wedge of romaine topped with anchovies, pickled lemon and parmigiano is really good. The Ham ‘O Day today was Proscuitto with mustard and rye. Really great. Excellent service, as always and an all around enjoyable meal."

  • "Provisions was just lovely. Simple decoration with lots of natural light. The food is fantastic. I highly recommend the crispy trout and hen of the woods pasta. Make sure to order a baguette to soak up the sauces. The waiter made great suggestions for wine pairings. Our suggestions for improvement: The bottles of wine were a little pricey- only 2 in the $30-$40 range. It would be nice to have more selection. Would be a nice touch for bread to come out with any meal that has sauces. They are so good, you will not want to stop eating!"

  • "Have waited until the buzz died down but now wish we had made the effort to dine sooner! We all absolutely loved it!"

  • "A wonderful dining experience with service that was a little off. When the waiter was there, he was very knowledgeable. Problem was that he was far too slow in between courses."

  • "We had to ask the waiter five times for more bread. Also, my friend asked the waiter for a napkin so she could dispose her gum prior to dining, and it never showed up after we asked several times. So my friend ripped a piece of the paper menu to dispose of the gum."

  • "I would rate the food excellent were it just me dining that night. I absolutely loved my Crispy Trout! The flavors were vibrant, bright and surprising. I love surprises. My husband and daughter liked their pasta dishes but they were not as excited as I was. We did two cheese, bread, accoutrement selections and we all agreed that they were amazing. It is a fun atmosphere, but don't try to have a romantic dinner here. The meal at Provisions made me anxious to try a tasting menu at Pass. I think the chefs are creative, fun and talented."

  • "I've been meaning to visit Provisions for a while now, and finally made it happen for a work dinner on Monday. We had two vegetarians, so we chose all vegetarian items in order to share- two pizzas, the pasta with mushrooms and yeast foam (!), and a salad. All were delicious and I'd order them again. We also shared the bananas foster dessert- huge (perfect for 4 people) and sweet- it was good, but not outstanding. We had great table neighbors, which made the experience even more enjoyable. Overall, I was impressed and will certainly go back!"

  • "Provisions is realy awesome. I love the burrata pizza. The small menu changes frequently and they always have interesting items to choose from. The service is knowledgeble and friendly. They have an excellent wine list as well."

  • "Overpriced for what small portions of food we received. Lackluster service - had to ask to get a refill of tea after sitting with an empty glass for several minutes. Aside from the ham 'o day, the food was underwhelming - either the flavors were too powerful while unbalanced or they lacked sufficient flavor."

  • "Excellent drinks and bread/cheese pairings. The pasta (we had the strozzapreti) was perfect. Everything else was just good and that's a tad disappointing for the hype surrounding this place. The service wasn't very attentive or fast but the staff was friendly and knowledgeable. We'd go back to try more of the bread and cheese, plus the pizza looked really good so we want to try that next time."

  • "Walking into Provisions I was instantly put at ease and felt right at home, which was comforting because I was here on a first date. The beautiful part about this place is how fun and energetic the food is. Bold, rich flavors that do not skimp on the in between notes of bitter and tart mellowed by creamy goat cheese or sweet Asian pear; what dish am I talking about? Their salad. Brilliant. We also ordered a bread pairing served in a carved out leg bone and the lamb and kale pizza, both amazing, but the real winner was the Short Rib Tortellini. Paired with some butternut squash and an almost decadent sauce, my date and myself had that shared moment where both of our eyes rolled back into our heads in ecstasy. I highly recommend them!"

  • "The Provisions portion of the Pass and Provisions is set up very efficiently and yet aesthetically pleasing. The wooden tables are covered by a paper table mat detailing the menu. We visited with 3 people and decided on a cheese plate, vegetable, meat, pizza, and pasta to share. We had the pretzel bread and cheese plate, the roasted peppers, a caramelized onion white pizza, the bratwurst, and the broccoli pasta. Everything was amazing and I would order it all again if there weren't so many other things on the menu I'd like to try next. We finished with a Vietnamese coffee flavored soft serve with licorice tapioca beads that was completely unique and still delicious and an apple filled donut with ice cream that was also perfect."

  • "Service was extremely poor. The waiter rushing the order, spilling wine all over the table as they served it. The good is fair at best. Nothing to brag about."

  • "Had a really great night at Provisions. Its a funky little restaurant with a good atmosphere. Had great cocktails and wine. Skillet steak and bananas foster bread was great. The only let down was the extremely overcooked pasta. We tried both the beef tortellini and broccoli sausage pastas. The flavour of the pasta sauce was reasonable, not bad, but nothing outstanding either. But such a shame that they overcooked it soooo much. Definitely something they need to improve on."

  • "Our food was superb. Loved the pasta with fennel sausage. The mushrrom pizza was wonderful. Loved the Caesar salad and the bread appetizer. The service was snails pace slow. The server hardly checked on us, took forever to take our order and never was around to get her attention. She also did a lousy job of describing the menu and the different items on the menu. The people who served our food spoke so fast you could not understand what they were saying you were eating. They were very rushed. The noise level was very, very loud. I would maybe return for the food but am unlikely now to try Pass."

  • "The food was good, not outstanding or exceptional, but good. The service was slow to nonexistent. They did comp my beer because it took so long for me to get it that half my pizza was already gone. Our waiter was burdened with too many tables, or had poor time management skills, I am not sure which. Either way, we were neglected. Maybe my expectations were too high, and I was disappointed that the bone marrow I had heard about was no longer on the menu but I base this review on the food and service (or lack thereof) that I did receive. I would say that Provisions is in the same food arena as Crisp and in my opinion Crisp wins hands down."

  • "Great Food. Rock and Roll music too loud, anoying when enjoying a good meal."

  • "The menu confused us. New menus are printed daily, but the descriptions of the items are little more than a list of the main ingredients, there is no clue to how they are actually prepared. A more descriptive menu would definitely be helpful. The waiter made some recommendations, but he was not the best at explaining things though, and we were not sure that we were going to stay and eat. A waitress, Ashley, checked in on us and was able to explain things much better. Ask for her when you go. The roasted peppers look & sound weird, but they are delicious! The pizzas looked awesome, that is on our list for the next visit. They were proud of the ham of the day, but that was our least favorite thing. Our other fav was the mushrooms & pasta."
