Very well compsed and cheographed dinner with a personalized menu memento and an endless parade of delish tasting plates from fluke shashimi with sweet pepper to duck with pomgranite redux-and crisped nasturshym leaf mini amuse bouch rice seaweed taco-ettes! The staff handled our individual dietary restrictions in stride and the somolier had a knowledge as deep their extensive cellar. They could use some more italian red varitals however. We came early and stayed late and lived it up and loved it.

The service was incredible. It's primarily a fish restaurant, but I don't eat fish. They were very understanding and put together a menu for me that I was able to really enjoy. It's incredibly expensive, but a much different experience than your average night out to dinner. I was a tad disappointed that my $20 glass of wine showed up on the bill at $26 a glass, but it was definitely a GREAT glass of wine. My husband who LOVES fish, enjoyed every dish and was in heaven.

The food and the restaurant was amazing. The service was impeccably handled by staff who were very knowledgeable. The only negative issue was a young couple who felt a need to photograph everything that was placed before them with a flash. The staff did nothing to stop this. They suggested we might change tables but never did anything about that either.

Every aspect of our dining experience was considered. The food was delicious and presented like individual works of art. The staff was quick, efficient and thorough. While pricey, the food exceeded expectations. It speaks well that after spending quite a lot for one meal, we did not feel bad about the cost. It was worth every penny.

My husband & I decided on the Seasonal menu! We were first offered a bread trio w/butter & sea salt. So YUM! My hubs is GF. They had no GF bread for him. Kind of odd for a restaurant of this calibre. Our first amuse bouche was a spoon of Brown Derby (bourbon, grapefruit & honey) sort of gelatin-like. A little burst of the original cocktail! Then we got tiny little rice tacos in a leaf/shell. Sounds so simple but I could have totally made a meal of it. Then we got a selection of 3 seafood pops...very fun, fresh & delish. There was another crudo dish topped w/spicy flowers, then I think there was tuna, then urchin on a bed of smoked cream fraiche & cavier..too yum! salt roasted shrimp, 62 degree egg on polenta, wagyu beef, cheese course. YUM!

Best dinner we have had at an LA restaurant! Very creative food and the taste matched the inventiveness! The chefs tasting is just plain "over the top"! Wine pairings are more then generous.... Absolutely loved the nasturtium taco! How can butter be so delicious? My husband said that every one of the courses were superlative and we have eaten at a few top restaurants! This is a definite special occasion place and should be put on everyone's list of "must do"!

I had never eaten at Providence before, as I'm not exactly a very wealthy person, but I wanted to do something very special for my girlfriend on her birthday. She is pescetarian, so Providence is perfect for her. Everything was phenomenal. Michael Cimarusti's menu was so beautiful, from the oyster selection and sauces to the scallops to the sea bass all the way through the nine courses to the king salmon (for her). I had the duck with chanterelles. The only problem was that she fills up, so she was bursting by the last course. Next time, we will opt for the four course menu, haha. The waitstaff performed the best service I've ever received. All in all, an extremely powerful dining experience, and worthy of its reputation.

We had the nine course menu and every item was deliciou and artistically presented. All allergy requests were gratefully acknowledged. If ratings allowed, I would give a 5+ for the food, absolutely fabulous and met expectations. The service was not at the same level. The timing of the different courses was off, too slow at first and then a rapid turnaround. We ended at the same time as another party who had the same menu, but arrived 30 min. later. While the main waiter was at par with the food, the servers of the different courses varied in their abilities to explain the dishes and the epicurean nuances. As we overheard, the presentations varied among the tables. Would give a 4+ if allowed, merging the 4 for service and 5+ for food.

LOVELY restaurant--although gastronomically, I was surprised to note the food stylings & pairings felt a bit staid. Nonetheless, I enjoyed the food overall. But I was left insulted by the wait staff & host--a man with a French accent in a gray suit who poured our wine pairings. We were seated next to a hallway where servers travel/convene. At one point, I saw the gray suited man gathered with waiters discreetly pointing at me and laughing. Later he told me "We were taking bets on whether or not you might lick your plate clean, sir. You really seem to like to eat." Wow! Rude! I also thought the fake bar candles were tacky. The cheese cart was broken down before we were offered the option of doing a course. That was a disappointment.

Wow. Truly and extraordinary restaurant. It's not about showy technique or modern foams and gelees so much as really well-balanced food. Nothing overpowers, allowing you to taste the range of flavors and textures that have been prepared with exquisite attention to detail. The specificity in service matches the care put into the food. If you feel like dropping some serious coin on a night out, this is a great place to do it.

The food was really outstanding, and the wine pairs were remarkable as well. Black truffles on an egg raviolo, lobster with matsutake mushrooms, wagyu beef, each course better than the previous one. The meal itself was well worth the high price. The only downside was the inconsistent service. Servers for the courses varied wildly in their ability to discuss the food and their patience with questions. Some seemed quite hurried and eager to drop the food and run. At 300/person, one expects a higher level of service.

While Michelin no longer rates LA, Providence still carries local clout as being Michelin-caliber. The room is outdated and bright, with tables too close. Service was timely, yet skewed stiff and automated. Hospitality fell short. For being in the business and celebrating a special occasion, I was surprised by the lack of appreciation typically shown peers. They did try hard to upsell us on raw bar add-ons to an already $220 per person, 17-course menu. The menu highlights were its "entrees" (wagyu & salmon). Dessert left much to be desired. Curiously, not one dessert course included chocolate. For the nearly $600 pricetag for a dinner for two, I would've thought they'd sent us home with a week's worth of groceries instead of a dry muffin.

This restaraunt lives up to the hype. You should know that they only are doing tasting menus these days, so be prepared to spend some money, and spend some time here, but it is so worth it. The food was amazing, the presentation of the dishes was great, and the service was attentive, but not pushy. Was very impressed with the server's knowledge of the ingredients, the wines, the cheeses, etc. Not pretentious at all. We ordered the Chef's menu, which was 10 courses, with probably 4 amuse bouche starters. The meal lasted for well over 3 hours which was really nice. Not rushed at all. Just a beautiful evening filled with great food and great company.
